This is an overdue rave for Terrance. I first found him when I saw a woman with such great hair I felt compelled to ask who did her cut and color. She happily shared that Terrance @Ira Ludwick was her stylist. From my very first cut, I could tell Terrance is in a league of his own. I've had good haircuts. Terrance's cuts are excellent. I have thick, wavy hair and when I first saw Terrance, my hair was nearly waist length. I've trusted him enough to request short choppy bobs, lobs, Bettie bangs, and long layered shags. Every haircut I've received has been outstanding. Really grateful to have found such a talented, kind, and patient stylist! read more

I followed my hairstylist, Terrance, here and I am so glad I did! Terrance is a phenomenal hairstylist. He has a true eye for detail. I get his dry cut because I find it makes my hair grow back so fast and so nicely! If you are looking for someone who is precise when it comes to cutting your luscious locks, you can not go wrong by seeing Terrance. He will always listen to your wants and needs versus just doing what he wants. My hair always looks and feels AMAZING after my appointments with Terrance. It also helps that Terrance is so kind and friendly! The salon itself is gorgeous! I love the ambience and their array of hair products and miscellaneous goodies to buy. They have jewelry and extensions for sale! Love that! The salon is decorated beautifully with pops of red. They even have a coloring area away from the main floor. The salon is a bit hard to find at first but it is located right next to GNC and across from flipping pizza and chipotle. I had provided a favorable prior review but my experience with this salon has since sharply declined. I've been going to professional salons for over 30 years with an average tenure of 6 years at a salon. I'd been patronizing this salon for 2 1/2 years and while my initial experience with the stylist was favorable, I was repeatedly having very unpleasant encounters with Ira who on several occasions was abusive and derogatory and the last encounter was so humiliating I had to inform the stylist I could not continue. Yet I always treated the stylist and staff with utmost respect and tipped generously on every visit. Concurrent with the unpleasant encounters the quality of the haircuts were declining while they were raising prices without even providing notice which I've never experienced at other salons. Further they hired a new receptionist who lacked basic communication skills and caused unnecessary ordeals and miscommunications that Ira only compounded. I've since changed to another professional salon in the area that appreciates my patronage and shows a great deal more class. After the decline in services, price increases without notice and awful experiences with the owner I do not recommend this salon. read more

I can't believe that I forgot to write this review. Megin J. did a color correction that truly touched my soul. This isn't me being dramatic either. A hairstylist at a different salon completely butchered my hair, and what's worse is THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. A LOT OF MONEY FOR IT. Whew. Deep breath. OK, so after having my hair butchered, a correction was in order. A few friends recommended Megin J, so I made an appointment for a consultation. She listened to my story, asked the proper questions, and told me exactly what needed to be done in order to fix it. There weren't any surprises, and if you ask about the cost they're very up front about it. The salon itself is pricier in general, but you get what you pay for. I also showered her a picture of the desired hair color (the previous stylist saw the same photo), and she couldn't understand how my hair turned out the way it did. WELL, after working her magic, my hair looked like the picture. It's all I wanted after walking around with hair that looked like a skunk who took a bath in carrot juice. This salon, and Ira, has saved me hours and hours of frantic research trying to find good colorists' and stylists' over the past few years. 7 years, to be more specific. Even when I lived In Manhattan, I would come home solely for my haircut with the salon's owner, Ira. His work has truly been a piece of art each and every time I've been there. Just as importantly, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it's obvious the employees who work there genuinely enjoy there jobs. This salon is worth it. I spend so much money one shoes and purses, it's easy to forget my hair is the most important aspect of every outfit. read more

Nicole. Is. Amazing. I love her. Beautiful person inside and out, with such amazing skills! She is truly an artist. I've been coming to her for several years. She does cuts and color, which I've both had done. Her balayage is on point, but I gotta say her cuts never disappoint. She LISTENS and then she adapts any sample photos you have to something uniquely you, PERFECT for you! I always feel 10x better when I walk out. The space is gorgeous, with lots of natural light, and they always have yummy teas to try. I've been to the salon twice, and had hair cuts by Karen both times. I'm really pleased with her skill level as well as the ambience of the place. I'm low maintenance and growing my hair long, so I go in every few months. I initially found the salon through Yelp last fall, when I needed to fix a hair cut mistake (by another upscale salon). Karen is a great communicator who asks what I want. She listens carefully to all my crazy or random hair questions, and answers patiently. The salon may be considered pricey, but no more so than similar places I've been to in DC or even Urbana. The Urbana salon I went to was actually more expensive and not as good, so I consider the talent worth the expense. read more

Having just moved from California I had a lot of concerns regarding highly professional, educated, experienced, communicative and SO friendly hair artists for my family and for myself. Conway really took his time with my two little girls, and wasn't taken off guard by their ages (6 & 7)- in fact he embraced their hair needs and made them feel so comfortable- their haircuts were amazing and addressed some problem areas such as dryness and frizz- he recommended products that I'm very much looking forward to using- and was sensitive enough to ask what we already have in our hair product Arsenal. My girls' hair looks great and and we are looking forward to our next appointment in six weeks! Thank you, Conway! I have been going to the Ira Ludwick Salon for a few years now and the service and the staff are exceptional! Even now, with the corona virus, I feel safe getting my hair done there because of all the safety and cleaning procedures they have put in place. I am especially pleased with the hairstylist who cuts my hair, Conway! He takes his time, he listens to me, and when he makes suggestions on a different way to do my hair, it always looks amazing. After my hair is cut and styled, Conway with take out his scissors again if he sees something that needs to be tweaked. Well... I have always been super nervous trying out new salons and stylists ever since my favorite hair lady moved away but Ira Ludwick Salon might be my new go to!! Casey is AMAZING! I found her through a recommendation from a friend and I decIded to make an appointment with her vía their website. I was greeted with smiles and waited for just a few minutes before she came to get me and she is the absolute sweetest! I asked her to do a balayage for me as my birthday is coming up soon and I wanted a change. I had a few photos to show her the color I was hoping for and she hit the nail on the head! I told her to do what she thought was best and I am so glad I did. She added lowlights and face framing pieces that made for such a beautiful look. The stylists are amazing! I followed Nicole here from her last salon, and recently had an appointment with Gia. My hair always looks great and feels healthier when I leave. If this review were only grading the stylists, it would be 5 Stars. That being said, as Kristin B wrote in her review the pricing system is extremely flawed. The prices listed on the website price are VERY deceiving. The salon recently added "Express Blow Dry" to their services list. The cost says "from $35" for a shampoo, condition, and style. I requested that appointment, Gia washed my hair and blow dried it straight. No flatiron, no deep conditioning treatments, no trims. So you can imagine my surprise when I went to check out and was told that it would be $55. When I asked if that was for the Express Blow Dry with a notable "are you kidding me?" tone, the receptionist replied yes and there was no explanation as to why I was paying $55 for a blowout. The stylists are great, but be prepared to be overcharged for every type of visit. read more

Ira Ludwick never fails to give me the most rockin' hair cut and color every. single. time. I recently moved to Brooklyn and I HAVE to come back to Bethesda just to get my hair done by the only one and only Ira. He is incredibly sweet and humble but don't let that fool you he knows just how to create a runway worthy hair do. I literally can't leave the house without getting tons of compliments. The mall, the grocery store, neighborhood strolls through Park Slope and Soho, coffee shops, friends, family you name it. Everyone LOVES my hair. And I do too. When I go in to see him I just let him do what he does best. He cuts my hair in short edgy, asymmetric bobs with lots of movement and layers and amazing vibrant reds and recently fun panels of primary colors! I always feel both tasteful and edgy when I walk out of his salon. The best part is he knows how to cut your hair so it it never goes through that "awkward phase" towards the end when it's 6-8 weeks grown out. It still looks amazing. That's talent. I also should definitely mention that his staff are super friendly and kind! They all seem like they have a great time working there and enjoy what the do! read more

I absolutely love getting my haircut by Nicole. She always does such a good job and gives me great suggestions for maintenance. The reason why I gave this salon one less star is because the receptionist is not friendly at all. She is very dry and not interested in your concerns. She always puts me on hold for at least three minutes every time I call. I was also a little disappointed that my usual price that I paid was $10 more. The receptionist explained the reason was because the entire salon had to raise their prices. read more

It was my first time coming to this salon. It was very intimidating because I have never had my hair colored before and I didn't know what to expect. GIA was very patient with me and listened to what I wanted. Everyone in the salon was very accommodating and friendly. One COULD say that I am a tad fussy about my hair. One could say it and they would be correct. All I can say is that I love this salon. From the moment you walk in, until the moment you leave, you will be well taken care of here. The salon has a great atmosphere to it without being one of those over-priced trendy places that you always want to go into and then decide that you would just go to a strip mall salon because it is lest pretentious. I have been going to Nicole for many years and when she relocated here, I was very happy because it is a great location. Nicole is a true artist with hair. The other staff members are amazing, too. I would not fear having any of them touch my hair. I have had facials here, too and Stacey is very good at what she does for the pores. Gabrielle cut my hair about 4 weeks ago, and I absolutely love what she did. I showed her a picture of what I was going for, and then she talked with me for a bit to determine how much effort I wanted to put into my hair every day (almost none) and how to best match the style I wanted with the hair that I have. She took her time to make sure I had plenty of input in my look, and clearly knew what she was doing. After she was done cutting, she took me through styling steps to show me how to get my desired look. For the first week after the cut, I received at least one compliment a day on my hair, while most days had several compliments - it seemed like everyone who looked at me had something positive to say about it. I've NEVER had a reaction like this to a haircut. Even now several weeks later I still get comments on it, many of them repeat commenters who just "can't get over it". I've been bouncing around salons and stylists for years, but I think I've finally found the one I'm going to stick with. This is now my new salon because I am following Jen P here! Jen has been doing my hair for 2 and a half years although I've known her since high school. She brought my hair from a brassy/reddish blonde to a beautiful blonde tone and once I got tired of maintaining the blonde she had the patience to help me restore my natural hair by trimming it regularly and helping with damage treatment and control! Which believe me hasn't been easy after all the color! She is an amazing stylist and is capable of anything and everything. She makes me feel so good about my hair and I look forward to seeing her in the salon! My mom and sister see her regularly as well! Even after moving to New York City, I still come home just to have Ira do my hair. Now for the salon: The salon itself is beautiful, modern, and spacious. It's trendy, without being pretentious. Everyone is super friendly and you are treated wonderfully. I've only ever gotten my hair done by Ira (cut and color), but he is absolutely phenomenal. He pays close attention to what you want and what works best for your lifestyle, hair color, personal style, etc. He puts his own unique, artistic twist to his styling and coloring that never ceases to impress. After several bad experiences (since I moved here from San Francisco), I was very happy to find this nice, new hair saloon. I think, they have opened recently. I scheduled my appointment entirely online. It is very convenient and fast. I came more than one hour earlier than my appointment time, but the receptionist lady was very welcoming and friendly. She offered me tea and showed me around. The saloon's space is very open and seems big. I liked their modern setup. All stylists were very friendly. In fact, one of them, Nik Babbis, agreed to work on my haircut earlier, than my appointment time. While he was cutting my hair, he explained every step he was doing and even asked the owner of the saloon, Ira Ludwick, for some advice. The haircut was very good, exactly like I asked and precisely copied the photo that I showed from my iPhone. I am very thankful to him for this haircut, because I was planning it for a long time, and just was very afraid to find a bad stylist. At the end they didn't try to sell me any hair care products and didn't try to schedule the new appointment in advance, what was very nice of them! read more

I don't usually write reviews but I used them a lot to find a hair place so heres my two cents.... This place is AMAZING ! They have a separate room for coloring which is really nice. The whole salon has a great vibe and is decorated in a very tasteful way. When I got there the girl at the front desk was really nice, and not fake nice like at many salons. She made me feel comfortable, gave me a tour, showed me where I would be sat, and got me some tea. I went to Tara and I am in love with my highlights. She really listened to what I wanted and took time with my hair, it turned out better than I expected. The pricing was very fair and a bargin if you ask me, for the service I got. read more
