Literally best blowout I've gotten! I got a scalp scrub (extra $30) so worth it, with a shampoo and blowout. Also reasonably priced for the quality of service. I went in for a simple hair and bangs trim with Alyssa and had a terrible experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On top of this, the Salon never responded to my emails, eventhough they claim to have offered to correct my haircut that I had supposedly declined![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked for my hair to be cut to my collarbone, but it ended up about two inches longer than requested. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I pointed it out, she insisted it was the correct length.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She blow dried my hair to crisps without any heat treatment. My hair was pulled repeatedly and my neck was scratched with the brush and her nails. Even after saying it hurt, the styling didn't improve. Last week on Wednesday, I walked into another salon with virgin hair requesting a brighter balayage, and left with the most horribly stripey highlights you've ever seen in your life. I booked an appointment at Zazu and showed up in tears. Daniel listened to me, what I wanted, and was able to completely transform my totally botched hair. I have been going to Zazu Salon for 7 years and will never go anywhere else in Chicago for my cut and color. My husband and I moved to the suburbs last year and I still make the trip downtown to get my hair done because everyone here does such an amazing job :) I have had fantastic services with Lindsay, Lynett and Jane in the past but Carolyn is my most recent stylist and she does a wonderful job with both cut and color when I went back to brunette from being blonde. Everyone really cares that you love your hair and is willing to fix it or tweak if you aren't satisfied. I love that they provide product recommendations but aren't harassing you to buy things you don't need or overselling just make good suggestions. She was very attentive when I explained my hair issues and what I wanted done so that she could deliver perfectly. She was thorough, quick, professional and an all-around hair wizard. The next day I decided I wanted my new hair to be a couple inches shorter. I messaged Jess and let her know so we scheduled a follow up appointment. At the appointment, we discussed my wishes and she gave me my dream cut. I am OBSESSED. My hair needed some major TLC so I decided to check out this place out because it's close to my apartment and also the groupon deal: 94 dollars for a highlight and partial baylage, which is almost robbery. I worked with the beautiful Zayna, who is a junior stylist (which is why you get the discounted rate.) Let me tell you I was not expecting to be this blown away with my hair. Zayna is amazing with her professionalism and talent. She is very busy and another one of her clients came in while I was getting my hair done and she didn't make me feel rushed or pushed aside. Her assistant helped her and was able to give both of us enough attention. That's really impressive. Zayna is on par with any senior stylist! I seriously got an amazing deal because what Zayna did to my my hair wasn't a junior stylist level. She really understands color and is able to work well with color treated hair. My hair was a challenge because I had had a single process color done so half of my hair was lighter than the rest as it grew out. I wanted a caramel, amber colored balayage because of my dark hair. I'm not a fan of yellowish, blond balayage in dark hair and told Zayna that. She not only got the color perfect, but also blended it to the Gods. I've had baylage before but I've never had it so beautifully blended. She is a miracle worker! So much so, I can't wait to go back to her for touch ups and I will gladly pay full price when she graduates in April. I've gone to junior stylists before and my appointments were long and I often came out with ok hair. If you're thinking about doing the groupon deal, don't hesitate. They even have a senior educator who comes around and makes sure that everything is perfect. But if Zayna is any indication, Zazu picks their stylists so well, they don't need to make many changes. Also another thing I appreciated was how kind everyone was. The reception girls, assistants, other stylists were very nice and made you feel relaxed. When I called them to make my appointment, the girl on the phone was very honest and said some junior stylists are just coming out of cosmetology school and need more hands-on experience. After talking to her though, I learned that she has quite a few years of professional experience, and was just starting out at Zazu. She did an awesome job with my balayage - I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she knew immediately what color to use. She colored my hair first, then cut it. I came into Zazu yesterday for a haircut with Sarah. Immediate vibes of the salon off the bat were professional but fun and comfortable. Being a bit of an introvert, walking in to a salon can feel intimidating but at Zazu I felt very much at ease. Sarah was patient and took time to discuss style in the chair before sitting me to wash. She gave me a bomb scalp massage. She was very attentive and continued to monitor the temperature throughout the entire wash. Once washed, time for a cut. Sarah was precise, and checked her work multiple times before moving on which I appreciated. Over all she gave me beautiful layers and the perfect lightweight face framing I wanted. My hair was super long and one length before. Sarah was able to maintain my length without compromising on the layers for movement. Not to mention she was so easy to talk to, meeting new stylists can be intimidating but she is an absolute peach! She was attentive and asked a lot of questions to ensure I got what I wanted out of the visit and that I was comfortable. She turned a simple blow out into a wonderful and memorable experience. I happened to have work head shots the following day and the blow out did in fact hold up for those, plus all week. I think it took about an hour or a little less. They have a program that offers unlimited waxing and mini facials for $64 per month - they just ask that you tip on what the full amount would have been. I came on a Monday for waxing then booked for the following Saturday for a haircut with Carolyn. Carolyn spent time mapping out a plan of action for my hair over the next 6 months.
