This used to be my favorite place to got to for my nails, a quick wash and blow dry, I loved the owners, but I am very upset with their attitude yesterday. I have been going there for over a year at least twice a month. They gave me a "fidelity" card and told me that I could have a free manicure and pedicure when the card was full. Since I don't have regular manicure but gel manicure, Ann the owner had told me to bring my husband or a friend. So I did bring my niece for a manicure and I had a pedicure and a gel manicure. Well, Ann told me she could't not accept the free mani/pedi because the work was performed on 2 people. Well it did not say that on the card. So, I offer to pay the difference from my gel manicure to reg. manicure. She didn't accept that either. I will not return there again, and told both Ann and Tom, but they didn't seem to care and they charged me the full price for both manicures. I am really offended by their lack of recognition and appreciation for a regular customer who has brought them clients as well. I have been coming here for the past 8 years and Ann is surely the BEST nail design artist I have come across! She is fast, efficient and has a wonderful sense of color and design. Their gel manicures last me close to 3 weeks so is really worth it. The salon is remarkably clean and all the tools/towels they use really clean. read more

I can't believe I am the first to review this place --- YES, SCORE! Salon Image is the type of place that could easily win the Best Secret of San Mateo Award. The salon is a small shop owned and operated by a darling husband and wife couple on 25th Ave. I've gotten my nails done at many SF shops over the past 2 years and I must say that every time my salon appointment is finished and I'm walking home admiring my perfectly primed nails, I realise that I just paid less than what I'd pay in SF for superior work. I mean, what could be better than that? The professionals here do flawless, fierce and fabulous work with the most friendly attitude it's a pleasure to come here. Each man/woman are complete and utter sweethearts. They can do everything at this shop such as nails/pedicures, hair cuts, waxing, and massages, but I just go here for nail fills and pedicures. The price for an acrylic fill with replaced nails and freehand nail art is just $25, In Menlo Park and SF I've had to pay $40 for the same...Urgh. Salon Image just can't be beat for the following reasons: - The acrylic nail fills I get are flawless and take 30 minutes...tops! This is like super-hero unheard of fast compared to my past 1 hr and 30 minute fill sessions. - The work they do is so durable that if I'm busy and I can't return for a fill until my nails hit their 3-week mark --- every nail is usually still in tact despite my daily abuse. - They're OPI nail polish selection could put the colors of the rainbow to shame. - The co-owner, Anne is a freehand nail art MASTER. Every time I go in for my nails she does a new original design that looks fantastic, professional and absolutely STUNNING. I don't know how she manages to come up with each beautiful design with such precision, but I LIKE IT. She can do freehand roses, flowers and any other custom design you can think of. Place is clean and welcoming but come during off hours because it's on a busy street and parking can be difficult around the meal times. read more

I've been getting my haircut from trong (sp?) for years. I usually just walk in unannounced and he takes me right away. Trong does a nice job cutting my hair. He takes his time to do a thorough job and it always comes out how I like it. Prices are very reasonable too. Highly recommended. read more

Thought I should update this review as it's been years. Tammy had left the salon some time ago and was worried no one could possibly do as good of a job as she did. Decided to try Ann who owns the salon with her husband Tom and have been extremely happy ever since. She's truly a perfectionist. They are open Monday through Saturday and there have been times when the only time I could get my nails done was on a Sunday. I admit, I cheated and tried just about every nail salon on 25th Avenue and nothing has come close to the quality of service I receive at Salon Image. I have been goin to see tom since he was in half moon bay. I have been seeing him now for past few years for my hair. When he is finished with me I feel and look like a new lady. This place is the best best prices in town and great atmosphere. I love going in here to get hair nails and eye brows done. They do everything tom is great when it comes to nails and hair. He does extensions feathers. I just had the brazillian treatment done to my hair it is the best thing yet I have done to my hair. My mom recently just started getting her hair done by tom. He did magic with her. Her hair always looked like a football. Now its something new. This place is convient. The staff is always up beat and talkative. He is doing my hair for my wedding in a few weeks and I can't wait to see the creativity he will come up with. I will never go else wear. The salon is very clean. I stumbled this little salon while driving by to get familiar with my new neighborhood. After checking the reviews at yelp, I tried it. The first time I went in I felt the lady was rushing to do my mani and pedi because she said, she's hungry and it's about to close. I was a little disappointed but glad at the same time I had mani & pedi before I left for business trip. Last Friday (7/22), I tried it again to have a mani & pedi after having a haircut across the street. Ann took care of my pedi and Mei w/ my mani. Both were wonderful! Ann (owner) keep on answering the phone while working on my feet (it kinda annoyed me a little) but understood. She apologized so it was all good. Mei was quiet and gentle. I really like it. 28 DAYS LATER!!! They've grown out but there are NO chips in the paint! Since the base coat closest to my cuticle was a clear gel, the growth isn't very noticeable. I'm impressed!!! A friend at work recommended this place and I'm thankful she did. Very positive experience coming here for the first time. I will be back for sure. Also, I highly recommend having a photo stored on your phone or printed out of the style you are wishing for. It made things so much easier. read more

The acrylic french manicures are not done well. After a week it looks as if you bought an $8 french manicure pack with the glue included. The color of the natural colored base looked blotchy as if you had some glue underneath holding it together in a certain area. I decided to give this salon a 2nd chance with their acrylics, however the same thing occurred and I was not impressed. Not going back. read more

I've been going here for 10 years. Tom does a fantastic job with my hair. I'm 51 and have moussy brown hair with dull grey coming in. We devised a way to HI LIGHT my hair IN BETWEEN the grey and it looks FANTASTIC. No root line to worry about. My hair has a SPARKLE now and when you see my hair you see a sandy blond color with a youthful sassy haircut that he does to perfection. I highly recommend Tom for haicut and color. read more

I generally never leave a negative review, I was shocked to see what Tom called, "my new transformation" a new friend whose color I loved referred me to Tom. I told Tom I loved what he did on her hair, he misunderstood, didn't really listen to me and I ended up almost like her and not myself. I was very light blonde and I ended up brown. I wanted my roots darkened to pop my own blonde hair and some dark lowlights. Not only was the color way too dark, it wasn't what I asked for. He failed to tell me he ruined two of my blouses with dye, and I have a lump on my head from when he rinsed me off. Usually every salon I've gone too they have you remove your clothes and put you in a grown. I need to return but fear I will be very damaged from him stripping me to blonde again. I am taking my new white top and my Winnie the Poo blue jean Disney shirt in today to show him the damage after trying to wash out the dye. So terrible disappointed. A hair dresser needs to understand what a person is asking. This cost $185.00 hair cut and color was terrible, damage to 2 shirts, lump on head. My hair extensions and hair pieces no longer match. 7months later, I have cut inches off every few weeks to get rid of damaged hair from Tom stripping and re color. I have grown inches of my own natural grey hair out trying to get back to healthy again. This is what you really call having a "BAD HAIR YEAR" I need my $185 back. Hair dressers need to be accountable for ruining someone's hair. read more

I was on the hunt for a full-service salon where I could get my hair colored and cut, Brazilian wax and manicure/pedicure. I searched through countless reviews-and glad I found them. I'm time deprived and wanted a one place salon without making several appointments at different places. Also not interested in over-priced services in some of the Burlingame/San Mateo area. Sure, you might think you're a little pampered princess for an hour, but was the service really that extraordinary? I've normally felt ripped off when I left. And I do sympathize with businesses struggling to pay exorbitant rents (and depending on their lease agreements-might be getting gouged paying for common area maintenance expenses too). Since this place is mainly doted on as a phenomenal nail salon-I will say that my manicure pedicure is beautiful and the chairs upscale and comfortable. But Tom did an amazing job on my hair! He had to cover a horrible color block job and had a bit of mess to work with. It was a two-step process of new all over color (too remove the old color job) and a new color block. I was very impressed that he also added a bit of color blocking detail to the under part of my hair to wear up in an up-do or ponytail. Not only was the color and technique beautiful-but he also gave me an amazing trim cut shaping my hair much better following existing lines but adding more detail with a V-shape in the back. I also appreciated that he removed all of the hair dye left around my hairline. Styled gorgeously and my hair does not feel dried out but soft. Amazing job! And now for Ana, his wife. If you've had a Brazilian wax, you know that they need to be quick and thorough on the "pull". She did an amazing job! (But ladies do yourself a favor and take 2 ibuprofen or Motrin 30 minutes to an hour before you go for the "middle" tender wax). Loved this salon and love supporting small family businesses! Will be back with my 4 year old for a hair cut! read more

I've come here on and off over the years and have had decent service. I don't love the space. It's cramped and the air feels dank. Today given the very limited parking on 25th Ave., I ended up parked in the back of the building. I entered to cut through to head to another salon for a color. The female owner blocked me then asked what service I wanted and I said I wanted to come back for a manicure after my color. She said "No, you have to go around the building." I was flabbergasted! I could not believe what I was hearing! Am I in San Mateo or some other world?? I tried to tell her that I've patronized their salon and she said people cut through their salon all the time without getting work done. On my way out, I told her husband that this was no way to treat the public. He followed me out the door and yelled at me on the street "Don't ever do that again!" I replied "I will never set foot in your salon." I could not believe how rude they treated me, like a common criminal! They should shut their back door if they don't want people coming through or at least put up a sign that would also make it obvious how unfriendly they are. read more

I have been going to nail salons for about 5 years. I found a couple good places here and there, sometimes I'd come back to them but about a year and a half ago, I found this place. Walking in here was the best decision I have ever made. I have never been so satisfied with my acrylics, pedicures, and waxing. I absolutely love this place. I go to Anne, who owns the shop with her husband, but everybody there does a fantastic job! This place is all about quality! After coming here every 2 weeks for a year and a half now, I can honestly say there has never been a time where I have walked out any less than extremely thankful. Not only are you guaranteed a fantastic and clean job, but the prices are so manageable! Also, they have these little stamp cards that they sign off on every visit and they work as coupons for free manicures and pedicures! It's super useful if your a regular! I have so much love and respect for this salon that even though I have moved to southern California I never get my nails done by anybody else. This is the only place I will go to for my eye brow waxing and hair cuts in the Penninsula for the past 5 years. It is a family run business. The owners, Anh and Thanh, work hard to make sure their customers are happy. I have tried many eye brow waxing places in the bay area (Oakland, San Francisco, and San Mateo); Anh is the only one who consistently does a great job with just the right shape, angle, and thickness and without my eye brows looking crooked or over done for just $12. Her husband, Thanh, is their only hair specialist. I was so happy to finally find someone who knows how to cut my thick Asian hair without the finished product looking FOB (fresh out of the boat). Previously, they had a couple of other hair specialists working for them. However, since these employees' work were subpar, loyal customers began leaving. So the owners made a business decision to only have Thanh do the hair there. Anh and Thanh are both are very accommodating--I always call them 15 minutes in advance to make sure they are available before coming in given my busy work and family schedules. read more
