I'm currently living in the Plaza view apts, so it was easy to stop by below and get a regular manicure ($20 + tip)! They weren't busy when I came on a Sunday afternoon, so I did a walk-in but called in beforehand to check. When I came in they took my temperature and gave me some sanitizer. I'm really indecisive with colors so it was really nice when my manicurist let me choose a bunch (she even chose some) to let me test on my nails before deciding. I think I went through like 7-8 options! Their polish bottles look a bit old on the racks, but the one I chose was fine. I wouldn't say the hygiene is spectacular, but the manicure was great and I like how it turned out. She was fast and precise, and the top coat dried instantly. My sister and I did a walk in on a Wednesday morning for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. Even though Oki only had one cancellation she made time for both of us! She was very helpful getting us the exact colors we wanted and matching when we weren't sure. We both felt she took her time to make sure our nails looked *perfect* and did a great job prepping the nails ahead of time so I feel certain they'll keep for a long time. Further, she let us know what to do in between appointments to keep them looking fresh! She was very kind and gave us her undivided attention, despite being the only nail technician there. Foster city has a few nail salons but my nails kept breaking and getting weaker. I wanted a change and decided to try Okki. I was pleasantly surprised, salon was nice and clean, Okki is very flexible with times and works late to accommodate your schedule. She is very patient and ensures that she does a good job and not in a rush to push you out to take the next person. Her Gel manis last 3+ weeks for me and better yet my nails don't crack or break. Oki was very detail oriented and did a pretty good job for my gel manicure. However, for some reasons there were a lot of flies in the shop. Like a LOT... So many that I felt uncomfortable just sitting there as typically it's a sign of hygiene issues. There was nothing dirty in the shop as far as I could see and I hate to jump to conclusions. SF is my second home but I've grown up in the Peninsula and still live there. I love how it's close enough to SF & SJ, the weather, it's quiet, has a lot of good restaurants, & things to do, & not too much of a struggle for parking. But that's typically of the Peninsula as a whole. Foster City is wonderful but there's very few if any nail salons in the city. And that's where Salon Q comes into play. They are a new hair, nail and waxing salon housed in the retail space (next to Sandwich Monkey) of The Plaza Apartments. They are open for business but not fully 100% open, I guess you can say they're in a soft open. I usually do my own toes, but every once in awhile I'll have my eyebrow lady in San Mateo do them or get them done in the FiDI during lunch. Pre-tip my pedicure was $30. Vivian did a great job and was so sweet and appreciative of my support of the new business. My pedicure was a little on the short side from what I remembered from others (about 17-20 minutes), but still thorough. Her top coat also dried really fast so there was very minimal drying time. I've also met all the other women working here and they are very sweet as well. The salon is really nice and clean too. The next time you're in the area and need hair cutting/styling services, your nails done or a wax I suggest you stop by and see the friendly ladies at Salon Q. They are only accepting cash and checks until their credit card machine is up and running. read more

Do not come here if you have acrylics!! I walked in asking if they had time for an acrylic fill and gel polish change. Sandy said she had time, before I sat in the chair I re-stayed I wanted an acrylic fill, after nodding in agreement she filed down all my polish and began to wrap my nails in foil. I explained a second time I wanted an acrylic fill and 2 other women had to come up to me and explain that she didn't know how to fill acrylics. My polish was already destroyed at that point and I didn't want to walk out with nasty nails on one hand, in hindsight I should've just left. After a while the nail techs told me I had healthy nails underneath my acrylics and offered to just remove it and go over with gel polish. (Disclaimer: I've never had acrylics removed before) but my nails were heavily scraped at, drilled at and abraised by the end of the ordeal. My nails were thin, weak and so unevenly textured when she was done. 2 days later my nails are breaking and are only being held together by the gel polish. NOT ONLY DID I NOT GET THE SERVICE I ASKED FOR BUT I PAID $50 TO GET MY "healthy" NAILS DESTROYED. I trusted them to give me the best advice about my nails and nail care...as we were talking I explained I had acrylics because my natural nails are weak and grow slowly...my nails are so weak right now i can't even consider getting a new set for at least 8 months. Technician burned me w her machine while taking of polish, then didn't wait for polish to set even though I asked her if it needed more time. The prices were average; not too expensive, but no insane deals either. The staff was friendly, down to earth, didn't do that weird look-at-you-while-talking-to-a-coworker-in-their-language thing. They engaged in conversation with me and not just silly small talk, but actually getting-to-know-you type topics. My manicure was quick, but looks great. Shellac pedicure is definitely on par. The massage for both the mani and the pedi were great. I had my eyebrows waxed... super quick and almost pain free. I had a facial before I left, and it was the highlight. Very professional in the sense, she would inform me of what she was about to do prior to doing it, she was an excellent cleanser and masseuse. My only complaint is the tackiness of the facial room... it's already small, but it basically doubles as a storage closet, too. I had to climb over boxes to get to the table. The table had stained, mismatched towels, which I know were clean, but it's the principle of presentation. Had a decent gel manicure experience. Would have given 3 stars for a few things, but round up to 4 for the following reasons: - made an appt for 10:15 for one gel mani and another person pedi. Brought my mom along to see if they could also give her a gel mani and they happily made it work. - as my mom was getting her gel, she soaked my gel polish so that it wouldn't add time overall - she was super thorough w my cuticles - probably best part of my manicure. - she asked me numerous times if the file job looked okay. - gave me a third coat of polish without question since I had a light color. This wasn't the most beautiful gel manicure I've gotten, and definitely not the most beautiful salon.
