They are so experienced, Kathy has become a lifelong friend, that is how they treat everyone. I went on Friday 12/10/23. Kathy did an amazing job with my grey coverup, cut/style. This was my first time coming to Salon Maleah. I don't normally post reviews, but after reading some back and forth reviews, and some awful reviews about the stylist that I had, I just HAD to write one. My before picture is attached (which looks really nice) but it started to turn yellow and was SUPER DEAD like hay. I walked in and was put with Larissa who was SUPER friendly! We talked about what I want and after a few undecided photos, I finally found one which was extreme and she encouraged it in a great, professional way! She knew what she was doing and she made it look exactly like the photo I showed her! I'm extremely happy with it and will definitely be coming back! Not only was Larissa great, everyone who was working was super friendly. I was asked by two different people if they could get me anything, water, tea, coffee. Run from this unprofessional salon. I purchased a Groupon for a haircut, condition and blow dry. As required in the Groupon, I contacted the salon first and spoke with Stephanie (an owner) and told her that I was purchasing this for my daughter. She offered me three different times for an appointment with Julie, we chose the middle appointment, 4:00 pm. My daughter went to her appointment at the appropriate time (actually she was early) and Julie washed her hair which took approximately 7 minutes. She then cut my daughter's hair which took another 7 minutes. She then informed my daughter that she did not have time to blow dry her hair. My daughter said that the blow dry was included, and Julie just said she didn't have time. My daughter left the salon and called me and told me what happened. I called the salon immediately and again spoke to Stephanie and told her what had happened. Stephanie agreed with me that that was not right and said she would speak to her business partner and get back to me. Needless to say, I never heard back from Stephanie. I have left several voicemails for Stephanie (apparently, they no longer answer the phone), but she has not had the decency to return any of my messages. Clearly, this salon does not honor what they advertise. Good business practice would have been for Stephanie to offer a free blow dry at another time. We would never have returned there but it would have been good business practice. My advice do not use this unreputable salon that doesn't honor what they say they will and doesn't have the decency to deal with problems in a professional manner. read more

She is what i describe a person who does not want to make a mistake! thats a plus, because having someone work on your hair is all about trust. trust that they care, trust that they know what they are doing. Most important trust that she wants to please her customer. That place was looking busy, which is good better then looking like they cant get business, nothing but respect. so i dont mind the multitasking between them. I had a wonderful experience at this salon. The owner, Stephanie was so kind and helpful! Unfortunately, due to work and home changes, I had to move my appointment not once, but twice. Stephanie completely understood and found me the next available appointment each time,ensuring that there was extra time for me to chat with the stylist since this was my first time. When I arrived, Stephanie warmly greeted and welcomed me, took my coat, and offered me something to drink. I had a hot mug of chai tea while I waited (I arrived early). My stylist, Sarisa, took me over to her station. She spent a lot of time chatting with me about what color and cut would work best with my face and features. She took the time to show me what she was thinking and I loved her ideas. Needless to say, the color came out warm and beautiful and the cut was gorgeous and precise. Oh, and the scalp massage that Sarisa gave me while shampooing my hair was to die for! All my thoughts and worries melted away in those minutes. Everything at Salon Maleah is first class and the people are so genuine. I felt that the main goal of everyone who worked there was to take care of me. This was one of the worst haircut experiences I have had and I have had some pretty nightmare-ish experiences. I used a groupon to get a haircut here and now i understand why. When my hair was being washed, my head was jerked around the sink and the massage was painful. After, the woman cut my hair to the edge of my chin after me asking for it to be just below my shoulders. The hair dresser kept cutting it shorter and shorter and ultimately I had to ask her to stop. When she went to blow dry my hair, she brushed my face more than my hair. Aside from the fact my hair cut is not remotely close to what i asked for, the experience and quality of service was very poor. Not what one would expect from a salon in Wellesley. Would not recommend. I will be hiding for the next month because I am so embarrassed of my hair cut. read more

Disappointed in their business practices. After reading reviews, I purchased a Groupon, called up in early November for an appointment with Lisa. I was told first available appointment would be in December. Which I scheduled, since I wasn't in a big rush to get my hair done. After arriving for my appointment, they immediately put me in a seat and sent someone over. I've been to Salon Maleah several years prior at their old location. Larisa who did my hair before, has since retired. It wasn't until I was almost done that I realized Stefanie (owner), sent over Julie to do my hair. This was not a mistake as I recall several years prior that Stefanie did this to me before. My original appointment back then was with Rebecca and she sent over Larisa. Thinking that I would not know. Apparently, this is a common practice with Stefanie the owner, switching stylist on you. Both Julie and Larissa were great. But this sneakiness is dishonest by the owner Stefanie, is not any place I would do business with. Their new location is occupying several chairs in another salon. This salon came highly recommended to me from a women I was sitting next to having my nails done. Bad choice. Her hair didn't even look that great. I have (had) very long, straight hair after letting it grow for 3 years and wanted my hair cleaned up, left long, with long, sexy layers. I now have short, straggly, choppy hair!!! The owners did refund the cost of the cut, but I am left with this mess on my head and they wont do anything to help fix it!?! Who CARES about a lousy $55. buck REFUND!!! NOW the sides of my hair fall just below my EAR LOBE when before it was LONG to match the rest of my hair, and the back NOW falls to a choppy point that looks like I haven't had a cut in years!!! Oh I am so upset! It will take about 3 years to grow the sides back :'( I just called the owner to discuss, at the very least, fixing this mess. She said to me that 'she cannot ALLOW me back to her salon' GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am disappointed at this behavior. I did not mention that I was a former hairdresser but I suppose my standards are higher than others. Also, when someone has straight hair it shows every cut mark if not cut correctly. If you have long hair I would recommend going somewhere else based on 2 factors: 1. they are not experienced with long hair and 2. the owners were very unprofessional to cop an attitude rather than just be nice about it. I used to go to Salon Meleah back when it was called another name. I loved the stylist that worked back then and when they had the Locks for Love program. Of course I got a free cut with a donation, but when I returned, that program no longer existed. None the less, I got my hair done at the new Salon Meleah, and received great service. I loved the stylist, the cut, and the staff in general. The prices are consistent with prices around the area, but as a college student, I can't afford this regularly. read more

She was very professional and also kind enough to listen to my long term plan and started my hair along the path. I've been going to Salon Maleah for years. I started out with a stylist who moved away, and am now with Kathy, one of the owners. Kathy is wonderful! Always willing to listen and wants to make sure I'm happy. She always does a great job, but I was particularly impressed at my first cut with her. As I left that first time, she said, 'Please let me know if you get home and decide you don't like it. I'll be more than willing to make any changes.' A few mornings ago, I was standing in line waiting for an ice coffee at my favorite cafe when a woman tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I really hope you don't mind me asking, but do you get highlights?" She was totally worried that I would be offended -- "Uff, highlights! How shallow do you think I am!" Haha -- just kidding. Damn straight I get highlights. I think it must be less than 1% of women over 20 who are actually natural blondes. Anyway, as I was scribbling down the name of my salon -- which the lady said she "just had to have," I realized that I have never yelped my amazing stylist Lori. Lori is the kind of stylist you only read about in magazines. She remembers everything -- from my last boyfriend's middle name to the exact length I like my bangs. The latter obviously being more important...but, the former being like a warm cocoa on a freezing night, awesomely comforting. She definitely let's me tell her what to do with my hair, but she also realizes when I'm having a bad day and might say 'chop it all off!' And she'll say...I'll take off a few today and if you still want to next time we'll do it. Thank god...she's saved me from more than a few bad decisions. Obviously most importantly, my highlights look totally natural and I've really never seen anyone walk out of there without looking super classy. One of my best friends also gets her hair done there -- a totally different look than mine, short, choppy, kind of punk meets Victoria Beckham -- and Lori rocks that look just as well as she rocks my long blunt cut. Salon Maleah is no frills but it is everything you need and want. Great hospitality without the hoightyness that can be Wellesley (cough, cough Ardan cough). Hearing "you don't want that" immediately after explaining the way I'd like my hair cut - the way this same stylist cut it the last time - should have been a clue things weren't going to go well. My second clue should have been her demeanor change once I turned down her solicitations for hair products before her scissors even touched my hair. The last time I got my hair cut at Salon Maleah I was sold on a whole bunch of products that sat unused. I'm lucky to even have time to shower at night, nevermind scrunch my hair until the curls are 'just right'. This should be OK with a stylist and he/she should still cut hair well even though they won't be getting an extra $50 out of the deal. I really just wanted an easy haircut that was layered and thinned out to make brushing easier, which is what I explained and also what I got last time I visited this stylist. I don't know if she had just gotten some really bad news or she was mad because I turned down her solicitations of hair products, but the stylist [can't remember her name] gave me what summed up to be an expensive ($70!!!) trim. I did speak up at the end after asking if she was going to layer my hair after the wash and dry, to which she responded that she had already layered it. My hair was just as thick and heavy as ever and it really truly was as if a friend had just given me a trim. After I spoke up, she thinned the ends a bit - silently with a sour look on her face - then brought me to the front to pay the excessive price. I'll never go back here, which is a total bummer because I had gotten such a great haircut the first time I had gone. If she didn't feel like working that day, she should have stayed home. There is a reason this salon only has 3.5 stars and most likely this has to do with Stephanie. The manager should be removed from her role because she is a very poor representation of the capabilities that salon has on the side of its stylist. Sending a pregnant woman home in the cold without a blow because of their inability to properly schedule is just the tip of the iceberg. Even better though is her lying to me when I called her out on that claiming she didn't know, when she herself was the one who commented on the pregnancy during payment. Then yet another lie she told me that she'll be offering a free blow dry to make up for the fact that despite paying for the blow dry service via Groupon, one was not provided. Having stylists and the front desk give clients different pricing is also unacceptable. If you're offering a service and the stylists gives the client a specific price, that is what should be honored. If the only reason you're going to this salon is because you think you're getting quality in a town like Wellesley, I'd rethink your move and go somewhere like Newton. read more

The client base is a little older than me but the stylists never fail to stay up with the trends. I am disappointed in the way they handled my disappointment in my color. I chose a medium brown. It turned out black. I understand color can surprise us but there was no acknowledgement that it turned out darker. I returned to have it lighten and I wasted my time. It was just a shampoo with soap under the dryer. I went to Salon Maleah for a curly cut. The interior of the salon is pleasant, but maybe just a little cramped for my taste. The front desk service was great - the receptionist was nice and helpful on the phone and in person. I had my hair cut by Lisa, who definitely approached the situation with "tough love": she had the experience and courage to identify what was going wrong with my hair and the talent and skill to make it right. Salon Maleah was amazing and I will definitely be back! I had Rebecca, who was very patient in looking through the haircut types that I had picked out and explaining what would look best to me. I did pay for the cut/blow dry, but she also curled my hair for me so it would look more like the pictures I had shown her, and overall I love the cut and look! On top of that, she was very friendly and conversational. My friend had Katie later on in the day and she said she was great too! The staff at the front were also very friendly and hospitable - they offered to take my coat and asked if I wanted coffee/water. I bought a Groupon only to find this place is a total bait and switch operation. They take your Groupon, then the stylist "suggests" conditioners that they think will be great for your hair, then they give you a bill for the price they normally charge. When asked for a breakdown of the bill, they had the audacity to say that a special conditioner costs $40. and that an "anti split ends conditioner costs $20. They suggest the add ons but conveniently fail to mention the costs. Save your money! read more

Plus, if you get a free family haircut card in the mail, it's all free:) also, the environment was very comfortable and calm. Furthermore, both my 12 year old bro and my middle aged mom had great haircuts too. We are all more than satisfied. I've gone to this salon for years. My hair is not difficult to work with--wavy red hair of medium-long length. I went in yesterday for a TRIM...She said she would simply clean up my layers and angles, and I told her to leave on as much length as possible. However, she took off 5 INCHES, leaving me with a haircut of which I am embarrassed and ashamed. I am a 20 year old girl, and my haircut makes me feel like a frumpy 50 year old. I would never go back here again. Putting your hair in somebody's hands takes a lot of trust, and the changes made are NOT EASILY UNDONE. So it's frustrating to feel uncomfortable walking into a salon knowing that ultimately they will do exactly what they want with your hair, no matter what instructions you gave. I had a living social voucher for a cut and full foil and was very impressed. The salon itself is a small but nice space. Everyone was very friendly. My stylist Rebecca was super nice and really did an excellent job. She asked me some really great questions about the style I wanted (eg "tell me what you like about it") and I feel like it turned out exactly as I was hoping. Also, it's one of the best blow outs I've ever had - and that was included in the voucher. All together, very impressed. As someone who has worked in customer service my whole professional career, I would not recommend Salon Maleah. When I made my appointment via phone I did speak with a super friendly woman. She must only work there during the week. The receptionist who greeted me Saturday morning was far from friendly. I understand people run behind sometimes, I get it but I specifically made my appointment with the intention of being seen on time. Especially since I mentioned I had a Bridal shower to attend as a bridesmaid, so I had to be early. The woman I spoke to on the phone even told me she would put me on a cancellation list in case anything opened earlier in the morning. The hair dresser I was set to see was running 10 minutes behind. Mind you she walked right in front of me looked at the computer, told the receptionist and walked away. Super Rude. Then the receptionist came up to me with no apology & asked if I'd like to leave for a coffee or something. No, I would just like my hair done. Really wanting my hair done, I agreed to the 10 minute extra wait. After waiting 25minutes, I decided to leave the Salon. With no apology again the receptionist asked if I'd like to reschedule, that was a NO and I left. Did you not understand I was having my hair done for a special occasion?
