First I will say the good. I've gone here several times now and the only good thing I've personally experience was Amanda's hair coloring, she's really good, I definitely recommend only her at this place. As for the rest from my experience... very long hair girls beware! Perhaps this place is mostly only good for coloring...but I've had my hair less than desirably cut every time here. All long hair girls' worst salon nightmare has always been going in for a trim or a style with a bit of a cut and you leave with up to 4 inches less than what you walked in with despite attempting to communicate to stylists and even bringing photos as guides. This happened with Heather and Karla, whom despite me reviewing their seemingly beautiful sample photos on IG managed to chop and dice my hair from my low waist back to below my shoulder blades without being asked to take that much, and choppy and uneven to boot. I've had great haircuts before and know the difference and feeling when you leave that chair, that was not the case there. I tried to speak to Heather and she ignored me, so I spoke to the salon and was given a credit for later. Then with Karla after speaking with the salon again because at this point I don't even care to address the stylists there, the salon blows me off and tells me I need to go elsewhere though I had already told them I was not coming back for cuts but just want them to know and prevent that from happening to other girls. My last visit went like this... I booked a cut and blow dry...I left with no wash, no blow dry, and an uneven cut done by dry cutting that was nothing like what I asked for and way shorter and the salon person I talked to about it could not care any less. This is by far the best hair cut and color that I have ever received. I had been wanting to color my hair a dark shade that would explode with color in sunlight. I was always scared to do it because I work for corporate America and if it looks too vibrant in office light I could face consequences at work. I finally worked up the courage and got a (same day) appointment with Jessica. She was sweet, knowledgeable and steered me in the right direction for my style. Knowing that this salon was just about five minutes from my home, I decided to give this place a shot so I called the week prior to schedule an appointment for the weekend and got booked in for Sunday at 11am. As soon as I stepped into the door, I felt like at home since everyone had the same sarcastic humor as I did. My salon experience was honestly incredible and the fact that they do eyebrow threading and manicures made me love this place even more! Anyways, back to my hair, since I had never really had it any shorter than it had been when I entered, I decided to take the plunge and just go shorter on the back while keeping my length at the front of my hair the same. Totally impressed! I have frontal and scaring alopecia using various medications including Rogaine and Plaquenil which appears to also affected how my hair responds to hair color. I walked in with natural white hair growth and residual yellow colors to light brown on my ends from months of my prior hair dresser attempting to lift my dark brown color.... The goal was to remove the bleached yellow look and make my look overall even. Not only did it come out beautiful but she was able to deliver making the color depth overall more even plus deposit this beautiful light gray that blended well with some of my exiting grays. I have been remiss I'm not providing a review sooner! I have been going here for a while now, but I finally met my hair stylist soulmate, Amanda. She is fabulous, she always listens to me, she goes over in detail what I want, and always delivers. She is meticulous and friendly and truly I am lucky to have her. I've done just haircuts with some copper; I've been from natural brunette to blonde and most recently she's helped me to go pink. Each time I couldn't be happier, and she always has great hair advice and answers all of my millions of questions. She's an all star. I also can't say enough about the salon itself, super clean, everyone is soooo friendly, and they can totally tell when I'm nervous and they give such positive encouraging feedback. The salon is also decorated in an awesome way, and you can even buy some of the art, which I have purchased, some lovely butterflies. I recently had my hair done by someone else at another salon and it was supposed to be a layered cut, but it was pretty choppy and messed up. Jennifer cut my hair and did a great job! After careful scouting i found Salon Mixx and the vibe gave me that it was an environment heavy on dramatic colors and cuts. After seeing other platinum card clients i had some faith. What really helped me was having a free consultation with Shelly so she can walk me through the process before i even swipe my card and that's what sold me! She really cared about what i wanted and was straight up and honest about what I'd be spending and what the after care would look like. Going platinum is expensive and it is very high maintenance! Either way it was something i was ready for and Shelly made the experience amazing. She was so detailed in every way that i had pretty much zero breakage. Hands down the best salon ever! Amanda is amazing i had a consultation with her before my appointment to see if i could achieve the look i wanted. She was honest about the process it would take and we found a good medium to get my hair on the healthy track before doing anything too damaging. I came in with a botched haircut and reservations about going to a salon but i was immediately at ease in her chair. The 4 hours i was with her flew by and felt like i was chatting with a friend. I chose this salon based on the great reviews here on Yelp and let me tell you..there aren't enough stars to rate this salon!! Right from the get go I was greeted at the front counter by a beautiful, warm and friendly girl named Brandy, who led me over to Sommer, who was going to do my hair. Instead of immediately taking me to the sink to wash my hair first, like other salons, she sat me in her chair to talk to me about exactly what I wanted, and I could tell she was listening intently to me...not a cellphone, not other people, ME. I already knew that this was going to be a great experience! My boyfriend even decided to get a cut too! So they were very accommodating for a walk_in and had Yanet give him a nice 'David Beckham' look! He is very picky and asked her to retouch here and there a couple of times but Yanet didn't complain...she did a fantastic job Super nice lady! What I wanted was full head color (mine was a box color 'epic fail'), some highlights and shampoo, cut & blow dry. I also need to tell you that I have A LOT of hair...so I was prepared to be there for a whiiile. I have serious back and neck pain but she took great care of me, letting me get up and stretch, stand/sit often, etc. even offered me some ice. It took her no time to mix up the dye, exactly the color I wanted, so she started to do my highlights and she had Lindsy step in and start putting the base color (a strawberry blonde) in between. So while I was waiting for the color to do its thing, I started looking around the salon, so much cool stuff to look at! The vibe is so hip and friendly, you can see that the staff really respects each other (a big plus) and there's awesome artwork all over the salon. I'm sorry this is so long but I felt compelled to write about as much detail as I could so people deciding whether to go will have an easier time making up their mind! I absolutely loved my hair. The color has so much shine, depth and highlights. The layers..perfection. Sommer is a true artist coupled with a super chill personality that makes you want to come back and see her again. I can't say enough how much I love this salon. I actually came back the next day for a manicure! Kelly is another super talented, amazing chick. I got the gel manicure and I have never loved my nails so much in my life!! I also met Frankie that day at the front counter. Dr. Karla....because if there was a PhD in hair she'd have one with summa cum laude honors. My hair is thick with some wave but I have a lot of hair...you really have to know hair to get the cut and texture right. She even gave me hair care tips that completely transformed my hair. I'm 47 years old and have very little grays but my hair was looking dull. I followed all of Karla's recommendations and my hair is vibrant and shiny. Karla also cut my 8 year olds hair and we all know how honest kids are; after her cut my daughter said "I love my hair". After we left the salon she told me "I love her (Karla)". If I can name a couple of things I'm afraid of, it would cockroaches, in the ocean right next to a cruise ship, and putting my faith in someone with my hair and scissors. I've recently seen a new South Park episode, making fun of Yelp, and as much as it was accurate and hilarious, Yelp has brought me my miracle worker Jessica. I saw a couple of Yelp friends check-in, and when I saw 5 star rating w/ 50+ reviews, I just HAD to check it out! So many said "Jessica is the best", so I made an appointment with her. I've always been afraid of change, had the same hair style since high school, but I was getting exhausted with it. Done a lot of "research" and thought it was time to try fringes. I gave Jessica a picture of what I wanted, telling her some details here and there. The shampoo smelled amazing, with relaxing properties of tea tree and eucalyptus, the head rub wasn't too bad either ;) I loved how she blow dryed my bangs and front layers to get an accurate feel for them, free of charge. She took great time in framing out my face, putting the kind of layers I wanted, and the bangs landed exactly where I wanted on my forehead. My confidence went thru the roof walking out. She transformed my long, virgin black hair to a red, fun, medium-length asymmetrical bob. For the past 6 years, I've regrown and donated my hair. But something about the stresses of medical school got me wanting more. So I made an appointment at Salon Mixx and never looked back. I rolled into the salon with a entourage for support. One of my best girlfriends had the honor of making the first cut and Yanet took over. I told her what I wanted and after a few minutes of looking at pictures on Google images, she went to work. At first it was just the cut, but about half way through the haircut, I made up my mind about coloring. I knew that once I colored my hair I wouldn't be able to donate the colored parts, but it was time for a change. I read through a lot of the reviews and saw Jessica's name mentioned quite a few times. So, like picking a name out of a hat I decided to book with Jessica, and take a chance. When I arrived I already liked the vibe of the salon. It was cute, and quaint not chaotic at all. I sat down and told Jessica exactly what other stylists were doing, and why they weren't working out for my hair. I went in for highlights and not only did her highlights turn out amazing. HAIRCUT. So I chopped off my own hair with a pair of kitchen scissors and it was basically a disaster. My hair looked like roadkill. I walked into Salon Mixx full of shame with a "do what you will" kind of attitude. Demy was my stylist she reassured me she would do the best she could. I was totally AMAZED with how she left my hair. It had a beautiful bob-like shape, and it felt light and breezy. It's been 2 months since, and I still get compliments on my hair. Erica, my hair stylist no longer works there #1, but let me backup and say WHY I WENT TO A HAIRSTYLEST IN THE FIRST PLACE: I had a double mastectomy, and had to have someone WASH my hair because I couldnt lift my arms. That's how I walked in the door. Led to some conversations with their stylist and a full blown appointment was made. I spent $300+ on full highlights. I wanted to come back every 5-6 days for a wash since again, my surgery. Which leads me to my updated review... I get a call after wash #2 for my 3rd appointment of them saying Erica had to cancel. I had to get my hair washed, so I said is there anyone else who can wash my hair? After a pause they came back and said they have 'a more experienced stylist who will do it, but she wants $5 more..." ??? I said, "I pay $30 for a wash and blowdry and thats already ridiculous but you want $5 more? I am handicapped. That's why I come to you."
