I feel so lucky to have found Angela Soltero. I called Salon One 50 looking for a stylist who was good with both color and cutting pixie style haircuts, and I was referred to this gem of a stylist. I was not going to bother with a bad review until I realized that the salon owners thought that it was unreasonable for me to be upset at the fact that the person who had done my highlights fitted in another client when I was ready to have my hair washed after treatment..... and I had to wait for 30 minutes before she could attend to me. I complained and explained that this was unacceptable, and they simply said that this is the way ALL salons worked their schedules.... in order to maximize their time. I do NOT think that this is the right way to treat customers... when I complained to the owner Jim, he seemed to think this was perfectly reasonable. I think that since the salon is in the process of expanding, they are doing everything they can possibly do to maximize their income in order to pay for the upcoming expansion. Unless they are able to give people the right level of attention and service, I think they will leave many very unhappy at the inadequacy of the service received. I am not giving an individual assessment, but I think management has made it quite difficult for to provide good service if individual service providers they are overbooked..... read more

I recently redeemed a Groupon for Margie at Salon One 50 and was disappointed by my experience. I was looking forward to some consultation about what I should do with my hair, highlights, a haircut and nice style. I felt not heard or engaged with regarding a new style/color. The color was mediocre. And at the end she barely put in effort to properly style my hair- meaning I wouldn't have gone out in public with the way it looked at the end unless I did some additional styling. The good news is that she didn't botch or mess up my hair. The bad news it looked the same as it did when I went in. I've had other Groupon salon experiences that were much better. read more

Jen Darcey was a "rare find" hair stylist when I moved to the Bay Area last year. In the past I've found a stylist that either knows color or knows how to cut- Jen definitely has mastered the art of cut & color. She took time to really listen at our first consultation and continues to really listen and produce results at each subsequent visit! Consistently good from my first a-line cut to a now graduated longer "lob." The honey wheat blond highlights that I love have previously been a challenge for stylists needing to cover my stubborn gray prior to adding the highlights. Jen "concocted" some sort of color mix that covers the gray much longer than I'd ever experienced before. I have been to the so called high end salons and low ends and I have found this salon to give me what I am needing. This is what I like about it: First high quality skills. People who work there have been doing hair for a long time. The owner, Lane is an excellent hair stylist, who is fast, precise and listens to what you are wanting done. Laura Martinwho colors my hair never rushes, always makes sure that the job looks great and to my satisfaction and is easy to talk to and she is never rushed. She is a truly genuine person who takes pride in her work. The receptionist always calls to remind me of my appointments and makes one for me before I leave (cuz I will forget otherwise). They never push products either although they sell them at a good price and they are high quality All the other people who work there from the manicurist, other hair stylists, etc are always pleasant to me and do not ignore me when they are with others. It makes you feel comfortable going there and wanting to go there. Last but not least is the value I feel there. I went to another high end salon in Walnut Creek where the color for my hair was way over $200 and then the hair colorist did not even bother to come and check how it looked after I BLEW IT DRY MYSELF!, So, it is a pleasure to get excellent quality service and not feel that you are being gouged with the prices. I like this the best. The prices are fair and you are not paying the rent and other expenses of the owners with the prices that they charge. I am EXTREMELY picky about who does my hair, as I'm sure most women can understand! After my last hairdresser retired, I was so reluctant to try someone new. I was very excited to get my hair done by Kayla- I went in with long hair that hasn't been dyed in two or more years. Before, my visit I wanted to be sure to be seeing the correct stylist for my hair vision and needs. I chose Kayla based on her Instagram photos, I liked her work with balayage & specifically long hair. To my dismay, I walked in with long hair and out with chopped up really short hair, my back hair was uneven with the front. I walked out in tears. The dye turned red in the balayage process, she gave me two options, to cut it or deal with it. I inquired about just letting it sit longer and her response was "I don't have the time." I gave her the okay to cut my hair shoulder length, and walked out with much shorter hair. She had an updated photo of a girl w shoulder length hair(I felt this was safe cut considering she'd just done iI Okayed some red, and asked her to not go shorter than shoulder length! I should've just ran out of there with the red haired ends. During my cut I pointed out that the back of my hair was longer then the front, she then replied rudely with "I'm pretty sure when you made the appt that they informed you that I don't do short hair." Yes, that is true, i went to Kayla wanting longer hair, but she wasn't talented enough to do color bc ive been to salons whom lift the color out of my hair no problem. I've been dark brown to platinum blonde, she asked if I had used henna. I've never ever dyed my hair or of a box. I've gone to Dustin David Salon for the last 15 years, he's a very talented hair stylist. It's a much nicer salon then this one. I only changed stylists bc we moved to the east bay, I'm looking for someone closer. I was understanding about the red and her cutting my hair, but the uneven haircut and rudely suggesting it was my fault she was cutting my hair short! I was appalled. I walked out in tears, she could've come up with a better solution, simply telling me she didn't have the time to fix it was not good enough. She could've asked a stylist there if they could help or booked me w someone who could've helped for another time. She also had the audacity to charge me full price for an uneven haircut that my kindergarten son could have cut better, and w red ends! At my old salon and most salons If you are not satisfied you can go back and they make it right! I understand not having the time between clients to fix the mess she made, but could've scheduled me at a later time to fix it. I asked her how much it would be to come back to fix the balayage (it wasn't high enough) and she was going to charge full price. I would strongly suggest never seeing Kayla. Instead go to Stem Salon in Walnut Creek! I told them my story and they fixed the cut and I'm going back soon for color! I'm a customer for life at Stem Salon, it's a nicer feeling all around salon. First timer to this salon and it's a very nice salon , everyone looked Like they loved their job and it was over all a great atmosphere but this review is mostly for the amazing Samantha , even when booking the appointment she was so sweet through text messages i recently dyed my hair red then black and now decided to go lighter. And the salon I went to before this one was full of snobs who let their business get to their head and they were actually good hair stylists they just had the tendency to act very snobby and talk badly about previous clients. So it goes to show that no matter how talented you are , if you have terrible customer service skills you can lose business. But I'm happy I decided to stop going there because I came across the great hair god Sam. Not only is she a bad a** hair dresser but she's also very humble which is what I loved about getting my hair done by her. She's very easy to talk to and makes sure you're comfortable. I honestly don't know how she did it but she made my jet black/red hair, light in only one session and I still maybe have one or two more sessions left but I love my hair after the first session. And I have received so many compliments at work. From the receptionist to the owner, this is a first rate salon. Need makeup for a wedding? They have it here. Besides Ashley, Kyle is great. He has a keen eye for new haircut looks for men. This is the first time I visited Salon One 50. I've been trying for a while to find a stylist that I can stick with, and I think I've found her! Laura cut and highlighted my hair. She decided stay a bit closer to my natural color with my highlights than the picture I brought in, which I really appreciated, as it was clear in the end that lighter would not have been better. She assured me however that if I did want them lighter she could do that as well! I think it's great when a stylist knows what will work and what won't with your hair.
