Never again! I went in with very long hair and I showed the stylist how short I wanted it. He cut it atleast 4 inches shorter and barely reaches down to my chest, when it went down to just above my hips earlier. I also had soft layers starting mid length to frame the face slightly but he gave me such harsh layers that are not even gradual and looks like there are two levels in my hair! He asked me how I part my hair still gave me layers that does not match my parting! I'm so disappointed. Same salon last year June had a stylist that did such a great job on my hair but he left the salon since. But this stylist (Nello Addabbo) has ruined it for me I've had a few bad haircut experiences before but never this bad. :( Edit: The owner personally reached out and offered to fix my hair. I had amazing experiences with Erica and Zdenka. I initially scheduled a consultation with Erica because I wanted highlights but I wasn't sure about the specifics. I brought some reference pictures and gave an incredibly descriptive, well-worded, and not at all contradictory request for something subtle but still noticeable. Thankfully, Erica understood my intentions perfectly, and she did an absolutely stunning job! The color is very subtle at some angles but glows gorgeously under the light, and I really love it. I also wanted to get my bangs trimmed, and Zdenka very graciously accepted my last minute request. She was extremely attentive and gave me the exact cut I wanted. In total I spent about $350-400. I think I needed to go through a journey to find someone as amazing as Zdenka. I don't know what it is about our society, but sometimes it feels like once you turn 50, some people think you don't want to look beautiful anymore. In the past couple of years I've tried to find a stylist who really cares how I look and feel. I've been to more expensive, "it" salons thinking surely they'll know what to do. But it seems like craft, professionalism and care are not so easy to find--at least at my age. Thankfully, I found Zdenka. I've waited for three visits to write a review to be sure. I have to say, she is truly amazing. Each visit I feel like I arrive like a chuck of ordinary rock, then Zdenka brings her craft and works her magic--sculpting me back into a beautiful, radiant me when I leave. I literally have felt beautiful at the end of every visit. After years, I've started receiving compliments again. The way she does color is exactly how I love it for my curls--rich at the roots and beachy golden highlights ombre-ing (is that a word?) towards the ends. My cuts are gorgeous, big healthy expressive curls that I love--sexy and stylish. And when I want to try a different cut or shape, I know Zdenka will know how to make that happen with my curly hair (she has curls, too.) She is truly an artistic professional. Oh, and I rarely have my hair blow-dried. But Zdenka did this for me after a cut and color recently. She allowed for a sexy wave to come through while drying. Q.E. is an interesting salon, with an identity that's difficult to pigeonhole. With little frills, but lots of accents, Q.E. is very independent. The stylists are separate identities and not part of a gestalt. The stylist that met my needs best was Zdenka, a woman from the Czech Republic. She took time with my hair, even though I have lost most of it, and refer to what's on my scalp as hairs. The plural doesn't work any more. Just because I am older, with hair so thin you can count the strands, doesn't mean I don't want some style. She did a meticulous job cutting, coloring, and trimming. I look much better, and that makes me happy. Rating a salon that hires independent contractors is difficult. People are not reviewing a salon, they're reviewing their stylist. Wow!! I am so, so, SO happy I took a chance on this salon. I was sick and tired of my long hair and desperately wanted to chop it off. I took a gamble by going to a brand new salon, with a new stylist. Erica was incredibly kind, helpful, and caring. She took the time to talk with my thoroughly before she even picked up any tools to really understand what I wanted. After I moved my hair color appointments a couple of times, it finally happened last weekend (4/9 at 1pm). I arrived there 15 mins earlier, thankfully, parking was easy that day. I have looked around for salons that can color my hair to the color I prefer - which is silver. I found Salon Q.E. I've been to other salons, but the team Salon Q.E didn't make me feel intimidated. Alex's the hair colorist and she did a fantastic job. Although we were not able to get the exact color (because I dyed my hair to black 3 months ago), I liked how it turned out. I still want it to be silver or platinum, so I am planning to come back. The total cost was $248.54 ($150 color, $35 shampoo product, plus tax and $50 tip). I had my hair done here last weekend. I was a bit skeptical because I had long and thick curls and was worried about this salon's experience with that. But what really impressed me is the communication from the jump. I reached out to at least 6 other places and this was the only place that communicated quickly, thoroughly and was actually working around my schedule. Which I really appreciated! I arrived at the salon ten minutes early and I expected to wait a bit. I was greeted instantly and they knew who I was and the name of my stylist (which I had forgotten) once I said my name. They also had me send pictures of my hair to get prepared before! My stylist was warm and helpful. She asked me questions and was a great conversationalist. She had done hair for 32 years and she still made sure to only use products and techniques I was comfortable with which I really appreciated. My hair took almost four hours to get done (which is normal for me) and she was a complete champ throughout the process. I loved her and the whole experience. Epiphann is perfect. He managed to take my hair (multiple colors due to multiple dyed hair that washed out and box dyes) and turned it into a master piece. He is very knowledgeable about hair and the potential ways hair could come out. He was very straightforward and tells you the truth, to give you realistic expectations. Today I had a wonderful experience at this salon! Amazing scheduling by Jonathan who got me in next-day without the time consuming separate color consultation appointment all the other salons (6) that I called required for new customers. He also told me he was going to contact the stylist to be sure they knew I was coming first thing in the morning with a meeting I had to get to. My cut by Epiphann was right on, the wash did not leave me with a soaked shirt, included a great scalp massage, the color is amazing and I didn't have to be a cosmetologist designing my own services to book them as I've experienced many times where a salon manager tells you there's not time for what you're asking for and somehow it's your fault because you should know what to ask for besides a cut and color. I used Yelp to send pics of my before and intended results. The price was better than reasonable, especially for a downtown salon. The other staff were kind, helpful, and complimentary. I booked an appointment for a color consolation. Epiphann talked me through the process and asked about my lifestyle. We ended up deciding to not dye my hair. It's not to say he didn't sell me on coloring, he gave me his professional opinion based on my situation. I am very happy with the decision. I still got a cut, and it turned out very cute. I love it. The whole time he was very careful and thorough with his work. As for Q.E's covid setup, it looks like there are 2 sections of the salon, and while I'm there only 1 client is in each section, well away from each other. Cannot say enough good things. Yesterday I had a hair crisis: I'm leaving for a vacation today, and I'd had a 3pm cut/color appointment on the books with my regular salon for 10 days, which was confirmed multiple times (I even got another text confirmation yesterday morning). At 12pm, my stylist texted me to cancel the appointment and didn't have any referrals or other solutions to offer. The reason why it was an actual crisis is because I hadn't had my hair cut or colored in over a year (yeah, I know; it was a hot mess), and I was really counting on that appointment. I am 100% aware this is a total first world problem. Anyway, Yelp to the rescue. I looked for a salon close to my office and found Salon Q.E. a couple blocks away. I sent a Yelp message to see if they could accommodate me last-minute and received a response from owner Jonathan in under 10 minutes. 15 minutes later I was in the chair. My stylist was Epiphann, and he is amazing. My hair can be tricky because it's very thin, but there's a lot of it, and I'm not one of those chicks who gives myself a blowout every morning (or ever). Epiphann gave me the perfect low-maintenance layered 'do, and the color is spot on. He also gave me great tips on how to keep my hair looking good during my beach vacay. I was in and out in about 2 hours. Oh, and I got the best scalp massage ever. I was super impressed with Epiphann's skills, and the overall professional, reliable service - especially on such short notice. I made an appointment with Epiphann, they were willing to open an hour earlier than normal to accommodate my schedule. After I showed him this low bun style for a wedding, despite my hair being 5 inches too short for this style he was able to perform magic and turn my shoulder length hair into an elegant low bun. As a maid of honor though I wasn't the main focus a lot of people saw me and I got a lot of compliments on my hair and asking where I got it done. I haven't gone to salon Q.E before, but Epiphann was very skilled and detailed, making sure every strand of hair was in the right place. He made sure the appointment was efficient and I got out of there with plenty of time before the wedding. Jafra did it again! I had received a less-than-satisfactory bang trim with a different stylist that left me devastated. He had ruined all of Jafra's hard work from my previous visit. When I finally got a hold of Jafra, via her personal email, she was only in town for the next 18 or so hours and managed to squeeze me in to fix the horror poking me in the eyes. Not only that, but she gave me The Works! Wash, all over cut, and a beautiful blow out that lasted for 5 days. QE Salon even comped the fee for the style since the bad trim came from one of their stylists. Astounding customer service. I have been seeing Zdenka for several years now and followed her when she went to Salon Q. E. I prefer it because it's smaller and much quieter than other salons. But I would follow Zdenka wherever she went. She is a master of color and cut. I have ALWAYS been extremely happy with her work. She is a real professional and will let you know whether she thinks a style or color will be a good choice for you. I appreciate this so much! Sometimes we don't know what is best for our skin tone or face shape. I've made mistakes in the past and previous stylists just let me go ahead. Of course the client is the boss but her opinion is so very helpful. I have no plans on ever seeing anyone else. The foils and cuts I've received are beautiful and I receive many compliments.
