I sadly was extremely disappointed by this haircut. I provided a old picture of myself to demonstrate the hair length I was hoping for, and I think I got cut almost an extra 3 or 4 inches of hair off. The part that made me super sad was that I asked for face framing layers & I ended up receiving what looked like short side bangs that reached my upper cheeks. It was honestly shocking watching my hair get cut so short, that I really didn't know what else to do besides continue with the cut to make it even on both sides. As he was working on the other side, I made it clear this was not what I wanted and that it was nowhere close to the length I had asked for. I wish he had confirmed with me the length before cutting, because there was clearly some miscommunication, despite the photo I provided. He didn't respond much, which was fine as there was no way of going back, and was quiet for the rest of the haircut. This was the worst haircut of my life and I am just patiently waiting for my hair to grow out (and have had to use so many pins to get my hair into a ponytail when I go to work). This is because Korean hair tends to be more thick and coarse and so salons familiar with the texture tend to do a better job overall. Plus, ya gotta keep it Korean! Haha. Anyways, while we live in Woodinville and this salon is in the U district, we continue to go back because of the great service and consistent haircuts. I am very disappointed with the haircut. I heard great things about this place. I made an appointment days in advance. I went in with waist length not-dyed and not-permed very healthy hair for styling. I had a very simple straight forward request: cut short but long enough to tie a ponytail. Not only was the haircut too short to stay in a ponytail for more than 2 minutes of wear the haircut was also poorly executed. This is the worst haircut I've ever gotten. After going to the same hair salon for 18 years in SF, I was nervous about having to find a new hair dresser in a new city... after all, I grew so comfortable with my last hair dresser I hadn't had to tell her what style I wanted for many years, and I didn't even know what any of my styles were called. On my first visit which also happened to be my first professional haircut in like 20 months due to the pandemic, I nervously showed Mr K a picture of the hair style I wanted, and after 20 minutes that's exactly what my hair looked like. I was so impressed especially given what he had to work with (one of many lessons during pandemic was that I suck at cutting my own hair), and how quickly he made human out of me again. I've been going back ever since, and I still don't know what my hair style is called. He remembered my style on my subsequent visits, so all I ever have to do these days is to tell him whether I want any shorter or longer depending on what I feel like, and he takes care of everything else so efficiently and so precisely, and there is just no wasted action on his part (yes, I'm an engineer). My wife, and my mother-in-law are now both regulars, and love this salon as well. Note, they do accept credit cards, but you get discount for paying cash. Street parking can be a little tricky sometimes, but not impossible. There is also a paid parking lot which usually have available spaces. read more

Where do I begin to say thank you Mr. & Mrs. K My first hair appointment since SIP as the Bay Area had the most stringent guidelines for hair salons. I was able to make an appointment with Mr. K via text and send him photos of what my hair looked like before service and what I wanted. This was great so he would know in advance what I was looking to achieve. Due to SIP it is by appointment only so when I arrived they were ready for me and I felt complete safe and comfortable. Before the hair coloring process Mr. K placed a safety face shield over my face for protection. During the hair washing process Mrs. K was so delicate to make sure of my face was covered while washing. Very professional service and I definitely will tell all my friends about you. I'd been recommended Salon K by friends and decided to follow through after searching the area for any salons that could fix my hair before a wedding. Mr. and Mrs. K were extremely accommodating, professional and made sure I was comfortable at the salon. I sent them a photo and was flexible with the color so long as I fixed my previous dye job. I was hoping that the other poor reviews of Hair Salon K would be one-off occasions when K was not in a good state. I was proven wrong. I asked if he could trim my hair and do some layers, and explained that my hair was wavy on the inner layers but straight on the outer layers so it would be a challenge. He agreed, so I told him to just give me a 2 inch trim. He ended up taking off way more than 2 inches, and giving me a terribly uneven chop. I had hair that was 8 inches past shoulder length, but now the shortest layer of my hair reaches up to my chin. I would have been fine with a normal trim since that was what we agreed on, but now I have choppy hair that I did not ask for at all. I start a new job next week and was hoping to go in looking good, but it looks like I'll just have to tie my hair up until it grows out enough for me to get it fixed. What's worse is that the haircut cost $40 WITHOUT a hair wash. When I asked for one, K told me it would cost extra. I did not get served any drinks or snacks either even though the salon was empty. I went in wanting a simple haircut but got charged $80. When I walked in, a woman just told me she had to wash my hair. I didn't question it since I had long hair, but I was not aware of the types of products they put in my hair. I told them I dyed my hair previously and asked what product they were using but got no response. When I sat in the chair to get my hair cut, the owner and the wife were talking about how bad my hair condition was in Korean, not knowing I understood what they said. They did a straight simple cut, blew dry my hair, and called it "styling". I spent about ~20 minutes at the salon in total. They told me it was that expensive because of the products they used, which I never asked for. Avoid going to this salon unless you want to get overcharged for a basic haircut. read more

I was originally planning to go to berryberry for my perm but they didn't have any openings that worked with my schedule and I'm happy that it worked out like that or else I wouldn't have discovered this gem of a place! :) The salon space is very clean and efficient. They have little snacks for you on a table if you have a longer appointment and they offer coffee and tea. Mr. K and his wife were so accommodating and friendly. I felt very spoiled the entire time. I went in for a setting perm and haircut and Mr. K perfectly executed what I had in mind. My hair was stick straight and I had horrible bangs and Mr. K saved them. This is the first time in my life I've had good bangs! My perm is exactly what I wanted - very loose effortless looking curls. Also, my hair doesn't feel processed or damaged at all - still looks very healthy and strong! Mr. K showed me how to style and maintain my hair. Very disappointed in my hair trim. I went in for a hair trim and ended up getting 4 inches cut off with massive uneven layers. Before cutting, I told him that I just wanted a mini trim, like 2-3 centimeters because I was trying to grow out my hair long. He asked me if I wanted layers and I told him I like my current haircut so just keep the layers like what it was but a trim of it. Well.... obviously this wasn't the case or else I wouldn't be writing this review here. I told the lady who washed my hair that he cut my hair too short and there's too much layers. After washing my hair, she told him before I sat down for the blow dry. He seemed offended and was arguing that it wasn't short and that I had split ends that were up to 4 inches.....I don't know what to say to that. I specifically asked for a trim and if I did have split ends that were up to 4 inches, he should've asked me if it's OK before chopping my hair. What's even worse is that the layers were so uneven and my sister even pointed them out the moment she saw me. There were front pieces that were longer than the back and then it goes short and then back to long.... in addition to that, the layers were 1 inches off each. My thought is, if you are to cut my hair short, can't you at least make it look nice because now I look like a clown and if I want to fix it, I would have to cut off all the messed up layers you did and that means I would have a super short bob. Anyhow, moral of the story is.... just be aware or else you'll end up like me where I'm going to have to tie my hair up for the next few months. And I, now, regret very much for not going out of my way to Vancouver BC, to see my original hair stylist Joti for a trim (her IG is hair by Joti if you're curious btw). Solid spot for a haircut on the Ave, especially if you have Asian textured hair. Mr. K is super nice and so is his wife (who gives a great shampoo), and I was impressed with the finished haircut and how fast he was! I went from dark brown (with box dye in it) to ashy blue. He also gave me a haircut as part of the price of the transformation ($400). The price is the same as other fancy hair salons, but I trust Mr K with my hair because he specializes in Asian hair (and uses Asian products). Mr and Mrs K were both very kind and genuine and made sure I was comfortable. The first day they bleached and dyed my hair, and some parts were a bit patchy so Mr K offered to fix it for free in another appointment. These pics are the final result! I am happy to be one of the first to review the new salon back in U district! Well, I can tell you, K is back and better than ever. Trust the five star rating. Firstly, the salon is brand spanking new. New salon smell be everything. K told me he reopened on 7/10/17. Everything feels clean and modernly designed. I've been to salons that charge twice the amount for a haircut and the working space wasn't as beautiful. I originally came in for a recolor but K informed me we would have to rebleach over my balayage. It was for a reasonable price and could be done within 3 hours, but my hair was already pretty damaged from too much bleach previously. K understood and he was not pushy at all. I settled for a simple trim to get the damaged ends off and layering in the front. I saw from Yelp pictures that his layering is on point but even a simple trim would have satisfied me. But I LOVE what he did with my hair. The layers added so much more dimension, especially near my face. He styled it with the perfect amount of volume, which has been difficult with my hair. I can't stop flipping my hair on the street, probably to the annoyance of onlookers. K, himself, is an artist. My tip is to simply watch in the mirror because the way he cuts is so entertaining. He flips the scissors stylishly and waterfalls the hair into the blade. Amazing!! His wife is also super sweet and attentive. As I have thick wavy hair, and asked for a hair style that reduces the work everyday, I got an uneven chop without any layers. I asked Mr Kim if he is willing to give my any layers, and he simply said no that's even more work. Guess what, today I woke up with completely messed up hair that I have to straighten all of them. My side bang was also messed up, and Mr Kim didn't even check that. Most of the time, my conversation with Mr Kim was him selling me the straight perm. I'm extremely happy I was able to find a Korean hair salon in the area without having to drive up to Lynnwood or down to Federal Way! I've been avoiding going to a salon since I moved to Seattle (about two years ago) because I find American hair salons overpriced and they don't do well with Asian hair. I cut my own hair with regular scissors last time my hair got too long and didn't want to do that again as it turned out pretty choppy lol. I was pleasantly greeted when I arrived a little prior to my scheduled appointment time and I was assisted almost immediately. Before visiting this salon, I have gotten my hair cut once in the span of 3 years. I have never found a hair stylist I truly liked. I have been to salons in Chinatown, Bellevue, capital hill, and Ten Pachi. I am going to start this review by saying Mister Kim is the only hair stylist I plan to visit more than once! He is great! Hair salon k is a new location as the business moved from Lynnwood. It is located on the second floor of the building near Finns. The decor has a cool vibe when you walk in. The customer service is great from the beginning. Mister Kim and his wife are not biased towards any ethnicity which can be common in Korean establishments. (I got a balayage so I was there a long time!) They are super welcoming and friendly! Mister Kim is fun to talk too and his wife was soo sweet. She kept bringing delicious candy and treats for me to enjoy while I waited between hair color layers. I felt like Mister Kim has good sense for what looks good with your face. I trust his judgement. I gave him a basic idea of what I wanted but also let him have some creative freedom. I have a lot of long thick yet fine Asian hair which hair stylist often enjoy to play with. I was really happy with the cut and balayage. I was showered with compliments for days by friends and coworkers. I will come back to Hair Salon K from lynnwood for my next hair makeover.
