I had to come back and give my first Yelp update after my 2nd hair appointment with Shea yesterday. I am still soooooooooo HAPPY that I found Shea and can't imagine ever using anyone else as long as she is around! I have been in desperate search of a stylist after leaving my old one due to her overbooking me for my last four appointments. For the last almost-decade, at least 8 people have attempted to highlight my elbowish-length, naturally-dishwater-blonde hair to a lighter, more pleasant shade. At the same time, I'm very reluctant to shell out the dough to have someone professionally color my hair. I've been dying my hair myself since I was about 13, and the few times I have had my hair dyed professionally, I was less than impressed. There's nothing more frustrating than paying $100 for something you could have done yourself for $10. However, Heather has done extraordinary things with my hair. Beware. I was extremely disappointed with the horrible color. The salon did nothing to try to make it better. You have been warned Update: I am positive this was the salon that I went to and I called and talked with someone whom said they were the owner, they told me that I had to handle it myself with the stylist. It was right before my birthday and I had to spend twice as much to get a color correction and didn't have enough money to do anything for my birthday. I still have the pictures of the bad color and the receipt for the color correction, my hair was multiple different colors with multiple color bands. Horrible experience, I had scabs on my scalp. I came in for blonde highlights and the colorist put bleach all over my hair for about an hour, then shampooed my hair and put more bleach in it an rubbed my hair out. Completely ruined my hair which was really long down to the bottom of my back, my hair broke off and I had to end up cutting it. It took a long time for it to get healthy again. Update: After how I was treated when I got my hair ruined at Salon Sovay on S 1st St., I will never go back there again. At the time I did call for someone to fix my hair since my birthday was just right around the corner and I didn't want to go anywhere looking like that, and talked to a lady who said was the owner and she put it off on the stylist and was unwilling to help with the situation. This happened a while ago but it still is upsetting since it took so long for my hair to grow back, I had uneven hair because chunks of it fell out. I now have long healthy hair again and do not want to go back there. Thanks for finally seeing the situation for what it is, it would have been more appreciated back when it was necessary. To describe my experience at Salon Sovay as positive would be as much of an understatement as declaring that chocolate is nice or ice is really not hot. Here's the jig y'all... I've lived in Austin for about 5 years and have been to 1-2 hairstylists in my time here and those experiences were definitely positive but my experience at Sovay's has recalibrated the scale entirely and I don't think I will ever go anywhere else...even if I moved to Australia. NO HYPERBOLE. I contacted Sovay personally in hopes of getting in her books after reading the rave reviews and how she specializes in long hair. I've put my head through the gamut since moving to Austin --- brazillian blowout after japanese straightening after two ombrés after two full head corrective color --- and my head needed some love and cleaning up. Sovay was able to get me in afterwork on a Thursday night and she worked actual MAGIC on my hair. Sovay adores hair and adores natural, long BEAUTIFUL hair --- and hell does she know how to tailor treatments and styles to her clients. As the daughter of two physicians, I can safely say that Sovay put as much thought and care to my hair as any doctor would into any patient or surgery --- and she knows herself and her craft like none other. While I came in for a simple trim "just to get the dead shit off the ends" ...I walked out with a gloss treatment and the best trim (cut) that I have ever had. I say trim (cut) because Sovay was able to keep my length (which I love) but give my head shine and shape like I'd never seen before. I literally came home and took selfies and stared in the mirror for an hour before finally realizing it was late and I probably should eat dinner. It would be just unfair to not to point out along the way that Sovay's general demeanor and attitude --- east coast bred with deep austin roots and sunny california flare is FABULOUS --- fun, hilarious, quick witted, honest...we chatted literally the whole time and I'm pretty sure she made me more comfortable than any therapist could. All and all, Sovay is the definition of dynamic and just effing wonderful...I even missed my morning workout just because I wanted to show off her fabulous work.
