Stefano is excellent! My family had been going to him for all of our hairstyling needs for the past 15 years. He has been able to accommodate each age-range's in-style trends (ha)! Aside from that, he is extremely professional and can manage a variety of hair types. I can show him a picture of a model working with a hairstyle I desire and he can get the job done. He'll be transparent as well towards whether you should be going for a look OR whether you could be going for another look that may be more suitable for your hair type. If you are not sure which direction to go with your hair, he will not lead you astray. Ok, I admit I don't get my hair cut as (healthily) often as I should. In fact, I probably get it cut once every (gasp) 6 months! This wouldn't be too bad of a problem but I blow dry and flat iron my hair daily. You can imagine the insane amount of split ends I have. I purchased a Hot on Yelp deal after seeing our beautiful CM Farrah's locks. I hadn't colored my hair in over 4 years and was a little worried about getting it colored since I wash it frequently and thought I'd end up with azn colored highlights. And since I only get my haircut 2ish times a year, I always feel a sense of obligation to cut off a ton of hair because 1) it's gotten REALLY unhealthy, and 2) to get my money's worth. Because of these 2 factors, I've never really been able to grow my hair that long. The hair gets so gross and unhealthy since I haven't cut it in awhile and looks terrible long since it's in poor shape. I asked Stefano if it was possible for me to ever have long hair that looks good. I don't have the pin straight typical Asian hair. My hair has a slight wave in it and that's why I always feel like I need to flat iron it because it looks nappy otherwise. Stefano said to trust him and he would give it shape. A highlight treatment and haircut later, I'm very happy with my results! Stefano gave me a subtle highlight color that reflects nicely in the light. He also gave my long hair layers and shape and for the first time in my life, I feel like my hair looks good long! In fact, with it's great shape, I can actually air dry it and there is no more need to use all the heat treatment as much anymore! Best of all, his service was efficient and quick but he also managed to hold a nice conversation with you. I definitely recommend Stefano if you're looking for a great hairstylist. The only downside is he is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. read more

Wow. This is the first haircut in my life that I love! Jammy just cut my hair a few hours ago, so I'll be sure to update in a day or so, once I've lived with it. But honestly, I love it! I went in for a consultation, at an absolute loss as to what to do with my hair (confession: I can't even figure out what my face shape is). Luckily, Jammy had a couple of reschedules today, and was able to advise and make the cut. I thought I had an idea about what I wanted - the Aggie Deyn cut with the longish bangs. He advised against it, based on my hairline at the nape of my neck. No one's ever studied my nape before. The cut he suggested was the cut I was dead set against: a bob. But Jammy said when layered, it would create movement & body. I went with it - after all, he's the expert, right? I asked about bangs - I've always had them (aside from extended periods between salon visits), and I feel like my forehead is, well, less than petite. He said no, it would go against the natural pattern of my hair growth. So off we went. My hair is difficult, to say the least. It is really, really fine. Like the texture of a Nordic baby's hair. Wispy. But there is a ton of it. Some of it is straight, some is wavy, some would be curly if it had enough muscle to maintain it's own form. I've never had a good experience with a razor. Until today. The cut is perfect! It has somehow changed the shape of may face. I still have my cheekbones, but my jaw looks softer. The second thing my husband said after the obvious "You got your hair cut" was "It makes you look younger". That alone is worth 5 stars! read more

Ok, now that I've been coming here for almost a year, I feel it's fair to review. I came here post-Brazilian Blowout (note: do not get one) and post-Aveda products-styled hair. My hair was dry, damaged, and sad. Stefano fixed my highlights and made my hair look and feel healthy again! After coming to him for highlights for a while, I decided to go back to natural with my dark brown hair. He did a great job with the color and the cut, leaving it long but manageable. I love it! After every visit I've received a bunch of compliments. Stefano cares about his clients and their hair, isn't pushy with products or treatments, and will explain what he's using and why (and why he's not using certain products). He refuses to carry the Brazilian Blowout at his salon due to the formaldehyde, which to me shows he's conscious of what he's buying and using on his clients. I'd definitely recommend this salon if you're looking for a hair stylist who does a great job with a variety of types of hair and who's very friendly! read more

After Farrah's rave reviews of Vaishali, I decided to head over to Salon Stefano to give her a try... I was duly impressed the first time around! She really took the time to make sure I was satisfied with the results and it was a very quick, fairly painless experience. I thought it looked great! I was definitely hooked.. and I definitely prefer threading to waxing! However, I'm giving four stars because I'd have to say the second time I went to get the brows and lip done, I wasn't quite as impressed... It seemed like Vaishali was a bit rushed and I actually went all the way to my car and saw that there were still some hairs left in places where they shouldn't be... But the receptionist and Vaishali were super cool about it, and ushered me right back in to get it all fixed up. :) So I'll definitely be back for another shot! read more

Personal service all the way! I went to this salon on a recommendation from a friend. I'm so glad I did because its the best experience I have had at a salon so far! He has had years of experience so he knows what hes doing and you can trust his judgment. I love that he is not afraid to tell you whether or not your ideas are going to look terrible or fabulous on you. He is not the cheapest around but you get what you pay for. I am completely satisfied with my cut and highlights. This is definitely my new salon. Not to mention the lady upstairs does a great job on eyebrows! read more

Well Miss Farrah actually told me about this place when I asked her where she got her eyebrows done, She highly recommended Vaishali who works at Salon Stefano. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for almost 3 years now and Vaishali is by far the one I'm most pleased with. She takes the time to figure out what looks best for your face. I've taken a few people to her that have also been very pleased with their results. I have heard her facials are great so I'll have to check that out. I'd recommend her to anyone. I will be getting my hair cut with Stefano next week so I'll update you guys on how that goes...wish me luck! read more

When I first moved to Houston I was at a loss with finding a hairdresser. After a few alarming experiences (previous client hair left on chair and under chair I was expected to sit on... my hair being straight ironed until it was literally smoking... the length of my hair being very different on each side of my head, not an edgy avant guarde style), my prayers were answered and Stefano was recommended. I made an appointment with Stefano a week later, to get him to try to salvage a style from an irregular slashing and I walked away a new woman with a great cut and colour. Plus I have walked away a new and happy lady with a great style and colour every other time I have visited since. Not surprisingly I also found out recently that another friend has also been seeing Stefano for years and is always pleased with his service. Stefano is both caring and charming....plus an excellent hairdresser... I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone! read more

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma but work in Houston most of the time. As such, I have occasionally have a need for some hair color and a nice new style. I have tried two other salons in Houston and I have found the perfect place and stylist, and I want to tell you about it. Jamey Kidd works at Salon Stefano. The first thing I noticed about his customer focus was his easy smile, attention to detail (and yes, that glass of wine that is always waiting for me). This past week was my fourth visit to see Jamey. He comes from parents that were hair stylists (it's in his blood). His professionalism and knowledge has enabled me to look years younger, gradually so I don't make a "stark" appearance at the office. You get what you pay for. Well, most of the time. There are costly mistakes, but IMO, I have never had a good, cheap, haircut. I am picky with my hair. Heck, I'm picky, period. In my 2.5 years here in Houston, I have not settled on one salon. Cut Loose is close, but well... Salon Stefano might just take the cake :) I was feeling super crummy and needed a huge pick-me-up. Well, I thought, why not pretty myself up, get myself pampered? I wasn't even in the mood to shop, and trust me, that's huge! So I looked on Yelp and looked at Salon 31, Dot Dot, Shine in the Heights, and Salon Stefano. I really wanted to see Dot Dot and their super green practices, but I called twice and no one answered the phone. Studio 31-- the number 31 adds to a 4 (like an inverse 13) and 4 is unlucky to my Chinese self, and if not me, then my uber superstitious mom will never let me hear the end of it. Shine in the Heights is practically a bike ride away from my house, but most reviews raved about color, and the friend I know who goes to Shine in the Heights I'm not too impressed with (haircut). So I somehow settled on Salon Stefano. It helps that Stefano is Swiss, and I must say from experience, Europeans cut hair VERY well. If he has a partner in there, doesn't matter, that partner went through his discernment, too. So I called for a last-minute appointment and whaddya know, they were able to squeeze me for an appointment in an hour. It was so long I didn't know how to ask for one. Fortunately, they figured it out and I got scheduled with Jammey (pronounced "Jaymee"). The salon's right off Alabama going Northwest; turn right on Roseland at the corner of Sul Ross and you're there! A friend lives on Roseland, too, so I thought that was fortituous, and my recently-found favorite aesthetician has her place on Sul Ross, so hello, even better! Well, I get inside the old house-turned salon and am warmly greeted by Jammey. He sat me down, looked at my hair, asked me how I style/not style it and off we went. I asked for no-razor because of my fine-but-thick hair and he honored that, which I'm grateful for. He did say, though, that he and Stefano toss their razors after 2 cuts, so the razors stay fresh: all my razor horror-cuts might have been from blunt razors, he said. He also has this promo (for now) that he advertises to first-timers: for a cut, blowdry and light highlights, it's $99 (versus possibly $135-165). I wanted some oomph, and I said, why not. He got the weight off my hair and gave back the bounce and some shine, with the highlights and this product. I asked for low-maintenance and I got that and more. He is efficient and professional but still very nice. I appreciate that service. Like I told him, I will pay for service if it's good. With the great service and great people at Salon Stefano, you get the what you pay for, which I am only to happy to do. I will definitely be back! read more

I have been going to Stefano for many years. He is a great hairdreser, super-efficient, super-accomodating and an absolute riot. Stefano makes your hair look great but is careful never to overprocess it. His clients always look beautiful, healthy, and never fussy. His blow-out, if you can get in, makes you feel like a million bucks. He is a very, very hard worker, extremely professional, and always tries to fit his regulars in. I went to Salon Stefano for the first time due to a Yelp package. I was looking for a new stylist since my last one turned my hair orange instead of blond. I made an appointment with Jammey and immediately liked him. He made feel extremely comfortable, even when I decided to cut off about 7 inches of hair. He even helped me when I said I have no clue what to do with my hair, bangs, no bangs, layers, no layers. He was very knowledgeable and I greatly appreciate his decision to not to do bangs. Would have been a big mistake :-) He made my highlights super natural and I have received so many compliments on the cut. I will be going back very soon! read more

I'll start with the good: Stephano himself is very pleasant and a pleasure to talk to. I really enjoyed meeting him. The salon has a very cozy feel and is in a great location with convenient parking. The bad: I paid a lot of money for highlights that ended up looking like I had not done my roots for months. I went in with honey blonde highlights on my brunette hair, my roots had grown out. I asked Stephano to give me red/copper highlights. He asked me whether I wanted him to cover my old highlights or not and I told him he could do whatever he though would look better. He did not cover the old ones and gave me dark copper highlights that were barely lighter that my background hair, so my roots ended up with barely noticeable contrast and my ends were still honey blonde. I have to say I was very disappointed. I'm sure he's great, based on the other reviews, but it just did not work out for me. read more

It was bosses day and my staff forgot to get me a gift... So I decided to take the rest of the day off and pamper myself. I knew I was in need of a pedicure and stopped by the Salon to ask for a recommendation around the neighborhood. I was told that a manicurist was on hand and just so happen to have an opening. I quickly took the slot. Was this ever a treat and a half. I soon found myself in a massage chair and a glass of wine. The manicurist was super friendly, professional and very thorough. I love Salon Stefano! First of all, I love Stefano!! He is so kind and funny and he truly cares about his clients and their needs. His coloring skills are amazing and he always cuts my hair the way I like it. He is the only hair dresser I have had that has told me that getting highlights over and over on the whole length of your hair is extremely damaging. Instead, he just puts highlights on the roots to touch them up so as not to further damage the ends. I get so many compliments after coming from him. The salon is inside a house, so there are usually only one or two clients there at a time. You know that you are getting the attention that you deserve. read more

I was referred here by a friend who always has wonderful hair and was not disappointed. Other reviewers' comments that Stefano "knows hair" sound a bit cheesy but really are accurate. Before he cuts your hair, he stops and really looks at it from all angles and decides what's best for your face. I come in and let him do whatever he thinks is best and am always very pleased. I just moved to Houston and needed to find a new salon. I looked on yelp and Salon Stefano looked awesome. I am not sure what happened on my visit. The salon is very nice and Stefano is very pleasant, however I spent a ton of money for what ended up looking that Supercuts highlights. He did a great job cutting my hair, but long layers is hard to mess up (and for $80 nothing special). However, for the very expensive highlights he barely consulted with me and then put a few weirdly placed highlights in my hair. I hated it right away - my old highlights were a different color and my old stylist did a combo of highlights- lowlights. So, the grow out was very obvious and then I just had these (slightly green tinted) highlights that looked sooooo obvious. Probably the worst hair color I have ever had. I waited 6 months to post on yelp. I was really unhappy. Maybe he just had a bad day. read more

I went today for the first time to this salon from purchasing a package through Yelp. The girl I spoke with from Yelp highly recommended Stefano. I was in need of a good cut and new style and also a color. Stefano spoke with me initially and I felt that he truly listened to my needs and could tell he was very knowledgeable in his profession. He was very confident and I felt would give me a style that was suitable for me along with how the style would look on me. The salon is very attractively done and the receptionist, Loraina, was very nice and helpful and professional. The salon was decorated well and very clean and comfortable. Jaime, another stylist who washed my hair, was very nice, pleasant and performed a great job. Lastly, I was extremely pleased with my color, cut and new style! Stefano is very personable and nice and is great in his profession. I scheduled a return appt. before I left. I felt the personal care and without rushing, all was done in a timely manner.
