Super amazing and fun times with Clif. I'm a hairstylist from out of town and I know how it can be doing another stylist hair. We make bad clients..lol. Clif was amazing, we both had the same vision going in and in 15 years in the industry, he gave me one of the best cuts I've had in a long time. We had a blast, he is so much fun and personable and it felt like I was hanging out with an old friend. Being in the same industry, I know how hard it is to find a stylist that's a keeper. He is. Next time I'm down in Shoreline, I will be going to see him. Salon itself was warm, cozy and very comfortable. Easy to find, great parking and friendly staff. I'm giving two stars because the stylists were nice and the salon was well maintained. That is the most positive review I can give because I absolutely hated what they did to my hair. It took a month and a half for me not to feel embarrassed going out in public with my hair looking like it did. The color blend I asked for was complex and so I contacted them, sent pictures, and asked before I went there if they could pull it off. They assured me that they absolutely could. After four plus hours of bleaching and coloring, I was told that it would be better if he cut it a certain way (showing that he knew it didn't look right) but I'd have to make an appointment because it took longer than planned. I had told him from the beginning to use stronger bleach but he ignored this. I told him I knew this from multiple experiences but he said it'd be fine. He suggested shaving a pattern in the back. I hadn't planned this but he encouraged that it would look good. I looked up images and gave him several options and told him to do the one that he felt most comfortable with but he assured me that any would turn out great. When I saw it later it looked like a toddler's drawing. When I texted him pictures of it later he never responded. In the end, I paid $230 for a frizzy, haphazardly colored, and poorly designed head of hair. To be fair, he only charged me $200, but I am a stickler for always tipping well no matter what. I had sent them pictures, I asked if they could do it, I did not go there with higher expectations than what was promised. Now I will never go back and I encourage you not to make the same mistake that I did. read more

Marty DeGrazia (at the salon) has been cutting my hair for as long as I have had a full head of hair -- it's about 20 years or so, (thought for years I thought it was full - and dark!) Great haircuts. Efficient. Easy to reach (I text him for appointments.) But not only is Marty great cutter but there is a very nice vibe to the whole salon. Lots of genuine conversation, chatter. And a dog on site is an extra! read more

In a word, Salon Stephen Crago is FABULOUS!! I have been going to Stephen for over 10 years. He is not only an extremely talented hair dresser, but a wonderful human being. He takes time to make sure your hair is exactly how you want it. His enthusiasm for his work is something to be envied. Kimberly does a great job cutting my hair the way I like it. She has cut my hair three times and not only does she pay attention to the small details about my hair but she is a pleasure to talk to as she cuts and styles my hair. I found this salon after looking through YELP and I can't say enough about how grateful I am! Clif Anthes is a brilliant hairmaster ... fantastic attention to detail, excellent creative eye, meticulously thorough AND very manageable prices. He does all the work himself, too - no assistants or shampoo interns stepping in to practice on you. I even got my boss to start going to him and she is thrilled too! I came to Salon Stephen Crago to get my awful haircut (from a horrible, cheapo strip-mall salon) fixed. I wish I'd come here sooner! What a difference, and what a great find. The shop is unassuming from the outside, and a little hard to spot from the street, but inside it's lovely and professional, with wood beams in the ceiling, an antique barber chair in the corner, and a welcoming atmosphere. My stylist was Clif, and he did an amazing job fixing my horrible botched haircut, leaving me with the best look I've had in years. He suggested a color treatment that would be subtle and still cover up some of my encroaching grey, and I swear, when he was done I looked ten years younger. While I was waiting for the color to process, I had a quick eyebrow wax which also turned out wonderfully. I'm so glad I found this place. read more

I came to Stephen's salon an hour after a terrible haircut north down the road that had left my hair in a total mess. I didn't know how the salon worked so I sat down in the extremely comfortable couch area and grabbed a magazine and some coffee. 45 minutes passed and nothing had happened, except a few strange looks from stylists who came over for water. After an hour Stephen came over and asked if I was waiting for someone for a cut, since he didn't recognize me. I explained my predicament and Stephen started apologizing for not coming over sooner. I would have been absolutely happy to pay for my haircut, but Stephen decided that instead of taking his lunch break, he was going to cut my hair for free (and trim up my beard). That's over $50 usually. The whole time he was cordial, happy, and kind. We chatted as the stylist and client should, and I walked out a happy camper. Definitely won a lifetime customer. read more

I've been going to Anjela Hall at Salon Stephen Crago for years. (Actually she was at another salon before & I followed her here.) She turned my brown w/a little gray, "holds onto gold" hair into beautiful, healthy, white blonde, Marilyn Monroe hair. She is a complete perfectionist. Whatever you want, she will work with you to get it. (I had a failed experiment as a redhead - failed in that it wasn't flattering, not that she did it badly - and we had to start all over. She did it with patience & grace.) Plus she is lovely to talk with, fun & funny & real. I'm moving to another state, but will come back to her as often as I can, because she's the best. I also LOVE Salon Stephen Crago. All the stylists there are wonderful. They help each other, and the atmosphere is lovely. Stephen himself is wonderful, funny (really, really funny) & warm & real and I am going to miss him. I've seen him do wonderful work on his customers. Scott is the sweetest man ever, as is his mild-mannered dog, Maggie, and I have seen him do beautiful work as well. I will miss Scott & Maggie. I've known Margaret since the last salon where Anjela worked, and she is unfailingly cheerful and kind & does lovely work, too. You really can't go wrong with this salon. I've seen them do everything from the most hip, up-to-date, straight out of the current fashion magazine 'do's, to the weekly appointments preferred by some of the mature ladies. Whatever it is you want for your hair, prepare to be satisfied. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! I've seen Troy several times over the last couple years and it's always a fun and upbeat experience. All the stylists here seem to be having a blast and I think that says a lot about the owner, Stephen. He is a funny and kind person and clearly cares a lot about everyone who comes through the doors. The prices are reasonable, and Troy really listens and is careful to not do anything too drastic if you don't want him to. He's the first stylist I've been to that measures how long my layers need to be to still fit nicely into a ponytail without pins! Excellent attention to detail. Also there's frequently a sweet and mellow doggie that hangs around the salon, and in my book a shop dog is an asset to any business! It has a classic salon ambience while still being very down to earth. Awesome! read more

I just have to say that it's worth the drive to Salon Stephen Crago in Shoreline even in traffic after work. Everyone is so nice there and I just love Troy! Really fun, not horribly expensive and he does an amazing job. So glad a friend of mine recommended him and this place. The woman that does my eyebrows is really awesome too. Last week I was scrambling to find a salon in my area to get my daughter's hair cut before the first day of school. I called 3 locals salons-- 2 of which were booked, and the 3rd lacked customer service, so I called Salon Stephen Crago, and I'm SO glad I did! Not only did they get my daughter in THAT evening, but person that I had talked to offered to stay later if Cliff did not have time for the 7p scheduled cut (which I thought was so nice!). Turns out Cliff was able to do it and he did awesome! I was able to leave for about 30 minutes and do more last-minute school shopping nearby, and when I came back my daughter's hair looked healthy and as smooth as silk! (And she loved her 2-minute scalp massage!) The only thing I will say is that I paid a little more than I normally would have for her cut-- I'm not sure if they thought she was over 12 (she's 12) and on their website it says children's cuts start at $15 (I was charged $42, not sure why, but in the end it was worth it). I feel like everyone went out of their way to provide awesome customer service. The environment in the salon is very welcoming too, including the pup in the waiting area on the floor. :) We plan to go back to SSC and I would definitely recommend it to others! read more

After hours of searching for a salon that would take 2 walk ins on such short notice (day before xmas eve). My mother and I happened to spot this amazing salon. We were greeted by Stephen the owner, he stopped everything he was doing to take the time to help me get an appointment for later in the day. We came back at about 2:30 and that is when Martin DeGrazia came to take me back to his chair. I have extremely long hair and was nervous to have my hair cut and to have him cut bangs into my hair. He made sure it was exactly what I wanted!!!!!! and to our delight he was able to fit my mom in for a cut as well. He is also amazing at cutting short hair, my mom was pleased, she is very picky when it comes to having her hair cut a certain way. It looked great when he was done with her hair, and she didn't leave the salon bitching afterwards woo hoo!! Not only did Martin come to the rescue, but he even did so on his day off. I live down in Portland, but will most definitely come back to see him in the future, and I am not one to get my hair trimmed regularly. but for the service and the atmosphere in the salon I will most definitely be back along with my mom. I have been going to either Troy or Kjelle since I was a baby! They are both experienced, talented hair stylists who always give me what I ask for. The salon is very clean and has great, friendly vibes. I would recommend Troy or Kjelle to do your hair here, but from what I've seen, every other stylist here is also skilled. read more

I highly recommend this salon, especially Clif Anthes, for gorgeous hair color and an overall welcoming, fun experience. I needed 'hairapy' and contacted the salon based on another friend's advice. They got me in within a few days and made my grey hair disappear without making me feel guilty for letting it go. All of the other stylists I watched work and spoke to were friendly and sweet as well as Clif. They always offer tea or water and greet you with a smile. Clif has worked his hair magic on me twice in the past few months and I will definitely stay with this salon long term.
