    Perfect blowout!
    Jennifer R.

The short: highly recommend this spot for a luxurious cut & blowout! The longer: I was a bridesmaid in a wedding, and had to get my hair done before 10:30 am in prep for the photos/ceremony. I called Salon Wave and asked if it was possible to get an early AM appointment. For a small up-charge, they came in 2 hours before opening. My haircut and blowout came out amazing. I got so many compliments. The space is clean. The hair wash was SO comfortable and relaxing. The products smell amazing, and overall I can't recommend this spot highly enough. Make an appointment! Can't wait to come back.

Cut months ago yay The "bangs" terrible Thought they'd grow out but honestly terrible Not intuitive

When I pay $100 + 20 tip to any stylist I expect they are intuitive when it comes to per persons hair. Long layered bangs so bad. I've never let my hair down since... like what is this hardness? but nice people

The new digs for salon wave. Chic yet really reasonable prices

I've been going to salon wave and it's prior incarnation for five years and they are fabulous. The new digs are definitely an upgrade and the place is simply decorated, yet super clean and stylish. My stylist is Yumiko, and she is a hip Japanese chick who is so nice and accommodating. Everyone is Japanese and they are super polite and service oriented. They always offer me tea or water and these folks run on time. I hate having to wait but that's never a problem. I have Asian hair. I wear it long but maintenance of bangs are a chore! Haircuts are super reasonable at $60 ish (can't remember) and I feel like I get the quality of the cut I used to get at warren Tricomi and all the other chi chi joints in town.

$62 wash + cut + blow dry for my extra long hair! 10% off for first time customers. Ask for Kodama.

Thank goodness they were able to fit me in at the last minute today. I leave for Paris in 2 days and won't have another opportunity for a haircut between now and then. There are so many highly rated hair salons on Yelp in the $$ price range. I've tried Hair Kuwayama (good but didn't blow me away), Shampoo Avenue B (very good but I got lucky and had the owner cut my hair), Dlala (good but not memorable), Sub-Image (cheap but horrible). I haven't found a stylist better than the one I had in SF, so I keep looking. I had Kodama cut my hair today, and she took great care of me from start to finish. I had the most relaxing scalp massage, I nearly fell asleep! Kodama understood what I wanted and was great with taking direction. The haircut I received is one of the better cuts I've had in NYC. It's not the holy grail but I will more likely come back here than the other salons. I think if I build a relationship with Kodama, she will be able to give me what I had in SF! My hair is very long and thick, and I always ask for something that's very hard to achieve (lots of volume on top while keeping it long without thinning it out Japanese-mullet-style). I'm also super particular about how it's layered - edgy with texture but not too textured that it looks fried, not blunt and not too soft or pretty). I usually end up with soft pretty layers which isn't what I really want. I know, I'm difficult. Anyhow, Wave 55 is a Japanese salon, so of course everyone there is so sweet! I got 10% off as I was a new customer and it ended up being $62 + $20 tip.

I got the most fabulous haircut at Wave 55 Salon.

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I haven't cut my hair in 6 months and I have really long straight natural hair so you can say it is a blank canvas. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. Ara was really sweet and nice but I don't think the skills were there.

He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. That said, pretty standard pricing for the location. If you're going to bleach your hair, you'd probably get the most out of it by trying a funky cool color but I just like the natural look. There's a discount if you have student ID. Would recommend this place.

We arrived a little before 1 and right away we were escorted downstairs into the spa section. For a Wednesday it was pretty dead and the only people that were there was just me and the bf. The couples package came with * 1 hour massage * 30 minutes private soaks with milk & honey scrub * 30 minutes in couples suite which includes jacuzzi tub & sauna Since it was my boyfriends birthday I requested rose petals like I had seen in the Yelp picture. I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.
