I've been to the best salons in New York City and though not very fancy, they do the job right! I got a few hair extensions put in after I decided to recklessly cut my own hair and could not find a salon who had hair extensions other than the heat bonding type. I had used the bead type in the past and I love them because they can be re-used first of all and they don't damage your hair. I have been going to Drita for the last year. She is the only person I trust with my hair. She has amazing quality hair extensions. It's really natural. I only put in a few for volume now and no one notices. I go to her every month for her to pull them up. It takes her about 30 minutes which is super fast. She also does my colour. She is really nice, down to Earth and funny! Prices are reasonable. Not $200 for a hair cut like other places! If your looking for a great stylist ask for Drita! Her chair is right by the window so you can't miss her! read more

Wow. I just had the WORST experience ever with this place. I bought a Groupon for highlights after seeing the good reviews for this place. I called for an appointment & as soon as I said it was a Groupon, the lady who answered the phone got aggressive and unpleasant and said oh you can only come on certain days with a Groupon with stylists who are just starting out and doing it for free. Went in here today for a hair cut and root touchup using a groupon. First,the manager was tie most cold and rude person.She didnt even greet properly. My stylist bianca started to work on my hair immediately and was doing the root touchup and did not even call the manage or talk to her ,but the manager lady walked by and said you have long roots.I said i got them done 6 weeks back and they aren't that long either.(The length of the root or addtl price based on that is no where mentioned on the groupon) .She walks back and comes to come after ten mins and says i need to pay more 40$ since i needed more color or some bullshit reason. Since the stylist was doing a great job and i was more than halfway through the process,i couldn't say anything. And for the haircut ,again bianca did an awesome kob but manager told that blow dry is extra akd i asked her not to do it. They try to rip you off for every small thing and i expect a hair cut comes with a blow dry especially when you are paying more than 115$. Beware of the manager(middle aged woman with short hair). The stylist Bianca was amazing did her job perfectly.Never ever returning here. read more

Sometimes I wonder if the people who post these reviews are high. I came here because it was reasonably priced and gets good reviews. The people are nice but I was very clear about what I didn't want done to the back of my hair and the stylist even agreed that she doesn't like that style either. Yet now the back looks like someone took a weed whacker to it. All I can do is wait for it to grow out. Maybe I can use these "shelves" on the back of my head to store mementos. Sigh Of course I didn't say anything, what can you say? Once you cut hair you can't glue it back. :( Thankfully the front and sides are good but I will not return. They RUINED my hair. I came in for a trim and some woman gave me a mullet. She both tried to make layers and somehow made it look like a shelf. I had called asking for someone who knew how to cut curly hair, but then as she cut my hair she was actively trying to brush through my then already-mostly-dried hair and almost getting the brush stuck in there... and then saying it was my fault (several times) for having frizzy hair! Curly is not frizzy, it's curly, and you can't smash a brush through it once it's dry! She also coughed in her hand several times while she was doing my hair. I ended up just chopping my hair when I got home so as not to make a scene, and I managed to make it look less like a huge shelf of hair. It was seriously like an 80s mullet on a 20-something-year-old girl -- and I paid $50 for the privilege. Don't go here if you have curly hair. read more

Hair: Natasha is my go-to girl for blow outs and cut. She always listens to what I want, and always blow dries my hair with ease! As a naturally curly girl, it's quite difficult to find someone who won't end up pulling at your hair so hard that your neck is sore by the end of the blowout. She makes the experience so relaxing, and never fails to make my hair look amazing at the end. I also appreciate that she always tries to fit me into her already busy schedule. Mani+Pedi: One of the best best mani & pedis in the city! Aika, Maria, are amazing. Not only are they the sweetest girls, but they are all great at what they do. I have never left the salon unhappy with the way my nails looked. These girls pay close attention to detail, listen to your wishes, and my manis are always long lasting. Do I have a story.... with my head about 5 inches lighter and a girl on my hitlist. I went in using lifebooker to the salon for the first time. I asked for a small trim - an inch and a half. At one point, the 23 year old girl, chatting cattly about men, combed out my hair to use, obviously in her mind, a thinning scissor and snapped off about 5 inches long and 4 inches deep of hair. Then the idiot pretended to cover it up like it was nothing and let me walk out without telling me, apologizing, or trying to make it right. I went home, dried my hair, and SOBBED. there was a straight line of hair completely gone, and then next was the old length, 5 inches lower. She'd done nothing at all to blend it but just shooed me out as quickly as possible before I found out. I went in the next day to see if my hair was still availble to be .. i don't know.. glued on. They were very apologetic but would only fix it - no money back, no acknoweldgment to future money I'd lose as a model, since my book would have to be totally revamped and I'd lose potential clients. Just a shrug and they'd fix it. That horrible experience aside, the manager gave me one of the most amazing haircuts, was so sweet and apologetic, and I would love to go back to her. But only her. This is for the nail salon downstairs. I was happy I found this place because my usual salon couldn't fit me in at the last minute. There was a mani/pedi special for $30, so I figured why not? The place was empty except for one person who was just finishing up. One of the nail technicians bounced up from her magazine as soon as I walked in, eager to get started. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but halfway through the service, she got incredibly upset and almost seemed to pout. I have no idea what happened... I just know that my toenails look great and my fingernails look like crap. The color is very uneven and she didn't even cover my whole nail! At the end of the session, she pointed to a nail drying station, then walked over and spoke with another employee. She seemed upset, but since I can't speak whatever language they did, I had no idea what was going on. I felt incredibly uncomfortable the whole time, though the one other customer didn't seem to mind. I quickly paid and left. It was very odd, and I don't think I'll return. read more

I love getting my haircut with Drita. She's typically the seat next to the window, so if you're window shy, it might not be the best space. However, I'm not one to rant and rave about my hair stylists but Drita is LEGIT. I've spent exorbitant amounts of money on my hair ranging from 85-250 and I was tired of it. I found out about Drita because she frequents my place of work and I figured, why not? So $35 later and the best haircut I've gotten in a very, very long time and she has me sold for life. I highly recommend her to a point where all I need to say his: "just make me look sexy" and I leave like Beyonce's DIVA is the soundtrack in my head. read more

I have been to this salon few times for a blow dry and Natalia did a good job, I came back for her. I wanted to schedule an appt this Wednesday and was told she is not available, but they have another one who can do strong blow dry. I have thick hair and asked for an experienced person. when I arrived that person was still tight up with her previous client and I was reassured the other one by the name Angela will be good. I needed my hair done for next day event. she probably did her best, but by her grip and the way she did my hair it was clear- she is neither professional nor experienced stylist. needeless to say I woke up next day- there was nothing left from my blow dry. Very disappointing as I needed it to look good today. My hair is thick and stays strong and smooth and my blow dry lasts for days. I was misled by receptionist ( person who makes appointment) and will never trust this place again. As a business owner in the area I strongly advise the salon owner Irina Babayeva to check out what level of services they are able to offer otherwise they will keep loosing clients. last but not least - customer service in this place does not exist- when I called this morning to explain that the blow dry did not work - same front desk person ( who promised me professional blow dry) was very disrespectful and stated she is not responsible for quality of services and that's my fault and I can complain as much as I want - she does not care.. read more

Just went to this salon with my wife to treat her out. we were greeted very well, the staff was very friendly. My wife got a facial mani and pedi by a lady named riva. She was really nice to us both and my wife loved the way she actually cared about her and how attentive she was. I'm giving it a star because it was fine. They painted my nails and it looks ok, that's all. The salon is a little bit outdated and dark inside, and I'm afraid I didn't get the best service. The manicurist said barely two words to me the whole time and instead continued a conversation in Spanish with the other manicurist and another customer. When I was finished with my mani, they said I had to pay, and even though I assured them I had paid through Lifebooker, they did not believe me. I felt humiliated as I had to argue that I had already paid, while other customers looked on. The manager even came down to tell me I was wrong and made me charge my credit card bill. However, after double-checking, they saw I was actually correct and had paid. They rang through a refund on my card and said a short apology. However, it was too little too late. I had a wonderful experience with Irena at Jean Leon salon. I went to her with a Lifebooker for a Ombre or Balayage highlight treatment, plus blowout. I added on a cut as well. I have had horrible experiences with hair color in the past and am very cautious about going to new stylists. Anyway, the reviews sounded pretty good so I decided to give it a try. The receptionist was very sweet and they even took me 15 minutes early. Irena sent nearly 10 minutes talking to me about what I wanted and looking at my hair. She asked me all about how I normally wear my hair, and looked closely at the pictures I brought. She explained exactly what she was thinking and how it would look on my hair (which is very fine and thin). I was astonished by how much time she took to get to know my hair and style. Rather than using the regular grid-system, Irena took my hair 1-inch chunk at a time and painted on the color in calculated places. She told me my hair would look sun kissed and natural, which it definitely does. She ended up doing a mix of ombre and balayage and did not charge me a cent more. I did get a cut with my treatment, which was only $30. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience with Irena and will definitely be coming back. She gave me great tips on how to best maintain my specific type of hair. After the blow dry she also showed me how it would look nice half up, and offered to take photos. Plus, I saw a lot of people coming in and out of the salon that seem to have been going there for years (everyone knew their names). To me, that shows good service and quality treatment. Irina is AMAZING. She totally gives you what you want; but also puts in her "two cents." She cares about the condition of your hair and won't do certain processes if she think it will be damaging. I have not had such a consistently good hair colorist in as long as I can remember. I've been to Fekkai, Salon AKS, Warren Tricomi, Kim Lepine, Bumble & Bumble, Garren, etc. and I found the color to be overpriced, and it never came out the same way twice. I can't speak for the other stylists, but I highly recommend Irina for color. Especially blonde. read more

A little more than 10 wks have passed and my hair's been stuck in the awkward phase for at least half of that. So now I'd say 3 stars for Irina's blow-out abilities and 2.5 for the actual styling. Her use of the razor to thin out my hair was much more aggressive than I'd first noticed and as my hair grew out, the scraggly factor has only multiplied exponentially. So much so that my stink face unconsciously surfaces *every time* I pull my hair into a ponytail. Aggravating to say the least. read more

I went in at 6pm yesterday for just a wash and cut. My ends literally looked like Barbie doll hair after trying to brush it in the wrong direction. They immediately sent me for shampoo and conditioning and Natasha immediately got to work on my hair. I am Puerto Rican, and I will be honest, I wasn't sure she would know how to handle my hair as its not "white girl" hair. It has texture and tends to be curly, not to mention its presently dyed platinum but she went in and cut me to the Gods! She cut all the dead hair off and left me with a fabulous choppy shoulder length bob that she blowed out with amazing ease. I didn't give it five stars because Ive gotten similar cuts in Queens for cheap and I found for a blow dry and cut and wash, 60 was just a little expensive. But it is the city so I could say its not too bad all things considered. Will DEFINITLY be coming back! read more

I have been going to Jean Leon for waxing. Bella is the master esthetician and she has been doing waxing for me for over ten years. It is inexpensive ($30 for Brazilian and $25 for full arms) and Bella does an amazing job. I lost touch with her when she left the 54th Street nail salon and thank God, I ran into her on the street one day. And I have not gone anywhere else ever since. She is very sweet and nice, and with waxing, she does it thoroughly and quickly. The waxing room is always clean and neat. read more
