Great textured highlights by Tamas which isn't easy because I have red hair...well it is actually very grey, but after color, it leans to strawberry blonde, which was the original color. Tamas was extremely patient, understanding, and thorough as we discussed the color of the highlights and how I wanted them to appear. He also did a fantastic cut, which, given how my hair grows, can be tricky. The atmosphere is lovely...not at all pretentious, and folks clearly love what they are doing. Pricing is very fair and up front. I walk by the salon every day as it is on my block. I went to Absolute Hairmony to get a haircut. The stylists are two young guys from Hungary, and from the first time I went there, I liked them. It's hard to find a salon in Manhattan without attitude and snootiness. Today, I witnessed something extraordinary. A very beautiful young (she couldn't have been more than 30 )woman with very long hair came into the shop asking for them to cut it all off. She wanted to donate it to Locks of Love, a charity which creates wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition. While Ben was cutting her hair, she told him that she had breast cancer and was about to undergo chemotherapy. She expected she was going to lose her hair and decided to donate it before that happened. When Ben had finished, she went to pay for the haircut and Tamas, the manager, told her there would be no fee, because "You are doing something nice." She was surprised and overwhelmed and kept saying, "are you sure?" over and over. Both Ben and Tamas assured her she did not have to pay. She put on her coat and tried to give a tip, and again they refused to accept it. She then gave them each a hug. As she left, they told her to stop by, they wanted to know how she was doing. By this point I was so touched by the whole thing that I was on the verge of bursting into tears. I was impressed both by the courage of this young woman, turning a terrible situation into something positive, and the generosity of Ben and Tamas. I got a half head of highlights done here 3.5 months ago and have been really unhappy since the moment I walked out of the salon. I have naturally very dark brown hair and was looking for low maintenance, natural-looking highlights to bring some lighter dimension into my hair. I left with a head of almost copper hair and get told all the time that my hair looks blonde or golden. I hate looking at my hair every day because it is nothing like what I asked for and doesn't really suit my complexion. All that aside, as my hair has grown out it's clear that I did not get natural highlights with easy maintenance as I asked for. It's been 3.5 months and there is a very clear line between my roots and my highlights - I've gotten highlights elsewhere before and never experienced this. I just went to another salon to see how I can fix this, and she agreed that the stylist here does "old-school" highlights with no blend at the root, so you have to come in for touch ups all the time. I should've known when I was in the salon and the guy was telling me he advises his clients to come in for root touch ups every 4 weeks. I'm sorry but I'm not a Pilates mom who has the time or money to be dropping hundreds of $$ on my hair every month, and I thought that was very clear with my request. This place is for upper east side people with a ton of money to spend on high maintenance hair. I am really disappointed and spent $400 on half highlights and a haircut. :( read more

After a bad hair cut, I wandered into the Perfect Hairmony which was a few steps from my apartment. Katie took such great care of me. I've been back now multiple times and I'm floored each time I go. I've never had better cuts and color ever. Ever since I started going, I've had so many people ask me where I'm getting my hair done! Katie is the most professional stylist I've ever gone to. She's meticulous but works quickly so you're not stuck in the chair for longer than 2 1/2 hours (if you're getting color). More importantly, she really helps give feedback about what she thinks would suit your style the most. (I can't stand when stylists don't give their opinion... I need help!!) I learned a fun fact while getting my hair cut today by Katie: in Hungary takes 3 years to complete beauty school, after which you're required to complete apprenticeship. That depth of experience shone thru on my haircut today, as Katie had her work absolutely cut out for her with my mess of a haircut. Just some background, im the kind of guy who, after a bad cut, takes a hiatus (a LONG one) from the big hair establishment. I received a bad cut in New Orleans, and then bought myself a kit and took care of it myself until I just couldn't handle it anymore. It turns out long term, that was a terrible idea. Luckily, Katie was able to take me in today as a walk in, and gave me, quite possibly, the best haircut I've gotten in my life. My little (ahem, not so little) bald spot is almost entirely covered up, and my hair is even and balanced. She was able to take my recommendations, and give me a cut I can get behind.
