Since it was my first time dying my hair, I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, and she was extremely patient, and didn't start anything until we worked through what would be best for my hair/hair type. (this is an old review I forgot to post so the last time I was here was in 2019) I've visited this place 3 times and I've had, overall, decent results. With haircuts, I think they do a fantastic job and are great at listening to what you want. I've had different stylists each time but they were able to understand what I wanted as far as the cut. I dock two stars only because 2 of the 3 times I've visited, I was unsatisfied with the color. The first time, I had come in with strawberry blonde hair but with my natural roots coming in and I just wanted a darker color. Unfortunately, when they dyed it, only the previously dyed part retained any color. I get that it's hard to blend in the roots once the rest has been bleached but I felt like they didn't even try & it was so noticeable that I ended up coming back a month later to just dye it back to my natural black. Then this time around (which I had waited over 2years btw to let my hair rest), I LOVED my haircut but I got a darker brown color than the red Auburn I had asked for. Either way, I think they are great! But for color, it can be a real hit or miss. read more

Super happy with my haircut here. This is my third trip to this salon and each time I come here for a style change not just trimming. They are not the cheapest salon around, but they are worth every dollar. Really professional and knowledgeable stylists, which listens to what you want but will also provide modifications. The very first business I've visited post lockdown. Despite of skepticism that's developed within us these days about the safety measures practiced Ive decided to go out there. At first I wasn't sure how it is going to be with all the social distancing being practiced, but I was quiet pleased by the way they took care of their customers. I was greeted pleasantly (I didn't quiet catch his name...my bad ) and was offered sanitizer to be applied on my hands (As well got sanitizer spray for my clothes or I must say all over for my body ..lol) which I very much appreciated. I made an appointment with Yangmi ahead, I was on time and didn't have to wait not even for a min after my arrival. Got my hair washed and walked over to the station to get the deed done. They also offered a eye shield (you'll have mask on but this covers the upper part of face) and I was asked about my preference of style/haircut which I wanted to get. I have a curly Long Hair and I decided to get a bob(And I absolutely love it now). I showed her couple pictures of my choice and she recommended the one the best suits my hair texture. Her work seemed quiet skillful. I was also give recommendations on how to take care of my hair/style it in future with this new cut. The whole experience was very seamless, although they made it look like it was an easy work I am sure they are really working hard behind the scenes to make customers experience safe and pleasant. First time hair was dyed/bleached. I went in a few days before for a consultation. As you can see from my before photo my hair is very dark so I was worried, but my designer Hoyeon did an amazing job! She spent time making sure the bleach lightened my hair. She colored my hair in a way where it won't look weird once my hair grows out / color fades which is exactly what I wanted. Hoyeon also curled my hair and honestly I can't stop looking in the mirror cause I love how it looks (the color and the waves in my hair). Store was clean--santize upon entering + clothes sprayed. Thank you to Yangmi, the master stylist, for working her "magic" on my magic straight perm :) shout out to her assistant who is also the nicest and gives best hair washes! I have long hair (a little longer than chest level) and get straight perms done every 6 months to a year. $400 was what they charged me. Admittedly a little pricey, but seems to be competitive in Chicago area. They definitely give NYC Korean hair salons a run for their money. They did not damage my hair and it came out wonderfully. It took 4 hours (normal for my hair). They spray hand sanitizer on you when you walk in and ensure you are comfortable throughout your experience. Everyone wears masks including all clients! I lived in Korea for a bit and love the Korean magic perm (Korean straightening - permanent/chemical straightening). I did a lot of searching to find a salon that could do a magic perm, and finally found Salon Yangmi. The master hair designer, Yangmi, and her staff Ujin worked on my hair. They were so great about explaining the process and making sure I was comfortable. I also had pretty bad bleach damage and they took extra care to ensure my hair didn't get any additional damage during the straightening process. She also gave me some good tips on taking care of my hair after we finished. I also recommend the CF conditioner they sell. A few days ago I decided to get my hair bleached and dyed for the first time ever and had Hoyeon work on me. Since it was the weekend, she also had to take care of other customers at the same time, and the place looked busy throughout. But despite that, she did an amazing job doing my hair and I completely love it! Her and the rest of the staff made sure I was doing okay during the 5 hour process and made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. I also made sure to do a consultation days before to know how much money I was going to spend and made an appointment. The price is reasonable and I already knew what I was signing up for financially. Overall, the atmosphere made me feel comfortable throughout the long process and the staff are amazing and also help each other out! So I decided to box dye my hair brown a few days ago & the black color that I had before didnt come off easily... upset -I decided to look at hair salons on yelp/google and stumbled upon Salon Yangmi.... I called them & asked a few questions about price & they told me to stop by to help determine what they can do. I stopped by around 7pm on a Thursday night and had a quick talk with Hoyeon about what I wanted and what she thinks was best. #ashblonde. I was a little hesitant about making an appointment with them but I'm so GLAD I DID! I came to my appointment the next day at 10am. I was greeted by the owner of the store and was given a cute robe to wear. Hoyeon greeted me & got me started right away. What I love about this place is that all the ladies and boss worked together which made the whole process quicker. It took about a 5 hour process but I didnt mind it because they gave you snacks and drinks! They're all very attentive. The overall price for my whole experience was definitely worth it$$$ Atmosphere: Clean/comforting Hoyeon is so artistic and quick with her work. Covid-wise, they check your temp and sanitize you as you walk in. Everyone kept their masks on. It was my first time here and I was hoping someone could save my patchy green & yellow long hair. I came in a few days earlier for a consultation. My designer was Sonya and she did a great job working with my previous color to achieve this new color! Very satisfied with the immediate results. It definitely is on the pricier side, but I think it's worth it for your quality results and amount of time and effort put into the look. Sonya also mentioned that my hair is more purple right now, but as I wash it out it'll turn more into ash gray as we were going for. She made my roots darker so it'll look more natural as my hair grows out as well. She recommended a leave-in conditioner as it was pretty damaged after bleaching my already processed hair to get rid of patches. I've been going to her for 5+(?!) years now and will not go to anyone else. I willingly make the hour drive to go to her. I get some version of a blonde ombre balayage and she kills it every time. I completely trust her with my hair. I can sit in her chair with ease, fully comfortable that end result will be 100. Don't hesitate to go to HoYeon! I appreciated Yangmi's cut awhile back. Somehow, certain aspects changed. I had a terrible experience with another stylist last time so this time, schedule allowed for a color and cut with Yangmi. I think the end result of a $195 treatment left my hair dried out. I'm guessing there wasn't any prep treatment for either pre-, or post- styling... no heat protected cream was used for ironing curl. I didn't even see how my hair color and cut looked, guess she didn't care for letting me see the result?! I'm not sure. I guess that's why I left the comment. I'm just disappointed for the treatment. I didn't know what I spent for a $195 visit... $100 for long hair color and $100 for a trim?! Not sure... read more

Making an appointment was super easy and when I came in they had sanitizer ready and sprayed my clothes to kill any germs. I was a bit apprehensive about getting bangs because I haven't had them as an adult, but Ms. Yangmi was amazing. I showed her a series of photos of what I wanted as well as a photo of how I usually style my hair. She showed me which direction she was thinking and then she began cutting. When she was finished I was so excited! My hair felt so thick and healthy. This is the first time that someone combined their expertise with what I wanted. It is the best salon in Illinois and the only salon that could put my Los Angeles hairstylist to shame! :D I have very high standards when it comes to my hair and price. I have found since I have returned to Chicago that the hairstylist are overpriced and pretty much crap, especially around the Glenview area....because it's Glenview the stylist don't try hard and just collect the money. I was searching for a salon for 4 years and didn't have much luck. Then, I came across the website and I was reading about the founder and the stylists. I saw that she had a lot of experience with color and has travelled extensively. I came into the salon and I saw the owner. She is gorgeous and her hair is beautiful. I saw a stylist, Hoyeon(I think that I spelled it right? LOL) and I showed her the pictures of how I wanted my hair done. She cut and colored my hair 10 times better than the pictures and so much more than I expected. The women here are great and the owner is always on top of it, which I love. The price for my hair was very reasonable and met the industry standard. I would definitely recommend this hair salon to anyone who wants an epic cut and color. Great staff and service. They really do care about the customers in light of the pandemic we are going through. They have masks available, a covering for your body, and even an eye shield. Though it gets hot, it's still nice that they do that to protect others from contracting the disease. The staff was super helpful. Sam, who speaks both Korean and English, helped interpret and asked how you want your hair. I think all of the stylists are very good at delivering what you want. I showed a picture of my preference and they took their time and effort to produce the results. My hair is naturally pretty dark, and they were able to lift the hair pretty nicely without breakage. Obviously, everyone's hair is different but they are pretty honest if they think your won't lift in one session. read more

After visiting salon after salon and never having a good experience, Salon Yangmi is so refreshing. Not only do they have a very kind receptionist who speaks English, but their hair stylist was also extremely skilled and professional. Upon walking in and showing them some photos, they immediately got to work. Throughout the process, the receptionist would often ask me if I had any questions, he explained the process of perming, and even offered me refreshments. I had Yuni as my stylist, and you can tell by the way she works how experienced and skilled she is. There was some trouble with part of my hair not being permed correctly, but as soon as I called them they arranged another appointment. Not only did they correct the section of hair in question, but they also applied a treatment to the rest of my hair as well. I have straight and fine hair that is difficult to perm, but Yuni's patience and skill made the experience so easy and the results so pretty. Although the price is a little higher than other salons, the experience I had was so much better than other Korean salons (especially for a non-Korean speaker). If you're looking for a salon that can style your hair very trendy and Korean-style, this place is perfect.
