I don't understand how this place has so many raving reviews. Maybe we went on a bad night or something... Let me start off by saying service was good, our waitress was attentive and got drink refills whenever needed. Now to the food... My husband got the lasagna (which is the ONLY reason I'm giving 3 stars) and I got the baked ziti. The noodles were so overcooked and mushy I almost needed a spoon to eat the ziti. The salad that came with the meals was less than appetizing (a lot of the lettuce in mine was starting to brown). It was pretty much a bowl full of lettuce with a few onions, tomatoes, and olives tossed on top. Nowhere near what I would expect for a $15 meal... We made a weekend trip down to Williamsburg and were looking forward to great dining experiences with great food. Unfortunately, that's not what we got from Sal's by Victor which was recommended to us. Upon being seated, we were in the first booth directly in the front corner behind the register, empty wine boxes and had a wonderful view of piles of bills and invoices...I got up only to discover the restaurant was huge and asked to be reseated in the other part of the restaurant which was very nice and had a lovely atmosphere. Once seated, our waiter came over and quite honestly looked like one of the most miserable people we've ever encountered. He seemed like he could care less to be serving us, offered no advice on specials and had no recommendations. He actually never mentioned his name. We ordered mozzarella sticks to start that were just your basic pre made frozen mozzarella sticks served at every other restaurant. For our main entrees I ordered the chicken parmigiana and my partner ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Both dishes came with a side salad which I must say the house vinaigrette was delicious. As far as the chicken parmigiana, it had the most bland taste I've ever had from an Italian restaurant. The chicken cutlets were just two pieces with a plain breading, fried, topped with marinara and two slices of cheese hardly melted. The spaghetti was very tender and delicious again topped with a bland tasteless marinara. I only ate one piece of chicken and a little bit of spaghetti. I took the rest home only to trash it. My partner said his chicken Alfredo was a very decent size portion but yet again was bland, no flavor and just lacking lots of taste. I would expect from a highly rated and recommend Italian restaurant to have a better experience and meals but we did not get that experience from Sal's and I doubt we would we return. read more

We ordered from Sal's because of the Yelp reviews and it was close to our hotel. It was a perfect choice for us! My husband and I got subs and they were very good. I couldn't finish mine, which is unusual for me. My daughter's got lasagna and pizza, and they both commented that "this is what it SHOULD taste like!" The owner was very nice! I went in with higher expectations based on the reviews and the place was filled with customers, but was disappointed. I ordered a Caesar salad which was iceberg lettuce with Caesar dressing, no romain lettuce and no croutons. Bread was rock hard, could only eat the inside and leave the crust. I ordered one of the specials which was chicken Marsala ravioli, which sounded great, but it had no flavor and the chicken tasted almost like canned potted chicken stuffed in some pasta, only ate half. read more
