Still my favorite for Italian food in Williamsburg! Last summer I started watching sugar and cholesterol. I am serious about it. Which means I discovered what I think are even better dishes at Sal's! First, they have substituted sautéed spinach for pasta under a couple seafood dishes for me! Second, they will use 100% olive oil, no butter on their food. Just ask which dishes are olive oil only. I've been going to Sal's for many years. The staff is professional and the food is as good, if not better, than it was when I was much younger. My very favorite dish is Cavatoni Ala Capri. I love the pizza as well. This is a college town and Sal's is close to the College of William and Mary campus so don't expect gourmet food. However you CAN expect the food creative and consistent, the owner to be friendly, and the staff (several who have worked there for years) to be knowledgeable. read more

So this spot was recommended by a friend who loves Italian food as much as I do! My family and I was starving when we arrived but could barely walk out by the time we left and only ate a portion of our food! Everything was fresh and hot and the sauce was super good, very authentic! The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars was their mozzarella sticks were average sticks, really good and hot but I was expecting something homemade, the side of sauce was amazing tho! My other issue was the Chef's Sampler which was a combination of chicken parmigiana, a stuffed shell and baked ziti, everything was amazing from the sauce to the cheese layer and the ricotta in the stuffed shell was perfect! Some of the pasta which there was a lot of was naked almost no sauce, which was unfortunate as the plate overall was good. My mom enjoyed her Victor's Sampler plate with veal parmigiana and lasagna. The pizza was delicious. Really amazing. I got a small Caprese pizza and my husband got a medium pepperoni. Both of us will have plenty for 1-2 leftover meals. But more so - I want to heap praises for the delivery man. I had ordered a soda with our meal and it was forgotten. I assured him it wasn't a big deal and not to worry about it. Excellent Italian dinner at Sal's. Service was very good and the food was great. We started with the Tomato/Basil Bruschetta, which we both loved. Salads were excellent too and the house dressing was very good. I had the Chicken Florentine and my husband had the Chicken Ravioli in Pesto sauce. We ordered a Sicilian "The Works" - 12" x 16" and requested plastic utensils since we are in a hotel. It took 1 1/2 hours to have it delivered from a location that is 2.5 miles from the hotel. We received no utensils and were fortunate that they keep a supply at the front desk. There were no napkins, no Parmesan cheese packets, and no red pepper packets. Things we have come to expect from a reputable restaurant What we received was a $30.00 loaf of bread with some toppings on it. Most of them were acceptable, but the sausage was definitely of inferior quality. So much so that I removed all of it after the first taste. If we had not been so hungry after our travels I'd have tossed in the trash and taken a loss. As it was half was thrown away. We have traveled extensively and eaten pizza from restaurants all over the country and this was the poorest example we have ever been given. Pizza Hut is a gourmet meal compared to this. Sal needs to go back to cooking school. read more

Our regular stop when we pass through Williamsburg. The wait staff is both knowledgeable and accommodating. I favor the stuffed shells as my favorite pasta. My wife loves the smoked chicken ravioli with sun dried tomatoes. We add a bottle of Barbara d'Alba for a perfect pairing. If we have any room left it's a shared slice of cheesecake with coffee. Wouldn't miss the opportunity to stop here. With so many good choices on the menu it's hard to go wrong with Sal's by Victor. read more

Hidden Gem! Found this place through yelp reviews. First, Maria is an amazing waitress! She is on top of things, fun, and makes the experience even better. The place is so spacious. Seemed like the we walked through several rooms to get to our table. The food was outstanding!!! The portions were large, fresh, well seasoned, and served hot. So I came here with my mom and gma, it was late and one of very few restaurants still open after we checked in, Ayca was our server she was new however amazingggg, I love good service. My gma got the pizza with chicken pineapple and spinach, she loved it. However, it was OK to me, there was kind of an after taste. I ordered the clam linguine white sauce, I loved it, after I added some Lemon, pepper and salt. My mom ordered the shrimp scampi, she sent it back :/ I thought it was ok, but she explained that it smelled like bug spray. The food was delicious, the wait staff was attentive, and the host was very gracious. We had a full day at Busch Gardens and decided to have dinner at Sal's by Victor around 9pm. We were a little nervous because up until that day, our dining experience in the Williamsburg area had been pretty terrible. Our experience at Sal's was everything we had hoped for. The salads were crisp and fresh, our pastas and pizzas were seasoned properly and had lots of flavor. The waitress refilled our drinks quickly, and when we asked for boxes to take our leftovers back to our hotel (we were exhausted from the day), she was quick to bring the boxes and the check. Don't be confused by the other Sal's in the area. This is the one the locals go to. There was a huge wait and pizza to go orders were moving out the door at a rapid pace. We called ahead and although they don't take formal reservations, you can put your name down and a time. Being from the trip-state area and arguable some of the best pizza in the country I wasn't optimistic about Sal's. The boys ordered the cheese and mushroom and it certainly held its own. Some of the better pizza we have had south of the mason Dixon line. My wife had the chicken frances and was very pleased with the meal. Nice lemon flavor and not oily. I am not usually a veal person, but slow cook a shank and it is hard to resist. The osombuco was very good. One of the better dishes I have had. It was served over a risotto that was creamy and not overly heavy. Pair it with the sangria and it cut the richness of the dish. Several people stopped by the table to comment on the dish as one of the best choices. I can take a bit longer than the other options so order an app and your first sangria and enjoy the anticipation. This place was recommended by new friends at the College of William and Mary and truly was one of the better dining experiences we had in Williamsburg. Compared to meals that cost the family up to a hundred dollars more, this was more memorable and stood out as a place we would return to. read more

Truly an exceptionally happy experience. We found Sal's by searching Yelp. Wonderful food and service. The Linguini Clams and the Pasta Pescatore were exceptionally delicious and almost too much to eat. The house salad was crisp and the house dressing was excellent. The bread was fresh and wonderful. We can't believe we've missed out, over the years, by not coming to Sal's when we visited Williamsburg. This restaurant is in the finest tradition of the best North-Eastern family owned Italian Restaurants, which we consider to set the standard for great Italian food. These days it's rare to find a restaurant that offers inside/outside seating as well as dine in or takeout. Late night hungry run and this place was open til midnight. First time at this Italian pizzeria. All customers must wear a face mask. The host greeted us immediately at the door. We decided to carryout. I ordered Chicken parmesan sub with grilled onions (my choice) and my friend got Spaghetti with red sauce. My friend is Muslim so he is very adamant about No pork whatsoever in either the red sauce or meat. 25 minutes later got the food and went back to hotel. He drove into his Spaghetti and immediately impressed. I had the chicken parmesan sub and it was awesome. Piping hot after a 10 minute ride back to hotel. French fries were okay. Recently we spent the day in Williamsburg at Water Country. My mother-in-law went to school at William and Mary and wanted to stop at Sal's saying it reminded her of college. We had never been before, so it was a real treat. It's tucked away in a little corner of a shopping center. At first we couldn't quite find it. But once we arrived I'm glad that we did! Inside was very nice, and we were greeted by incredibly friendly waitstaff. The staff continued to be very accommodating for us, especially since we have a two-year-old who enjoys making a lot of noise and throwing things from time to time. They gave us a small side of sautéed mixed vegetables for him, which they did not charge us for. So nice! Overall the food here was fantastic. We had the seafood pizza which was something special! Lots of garlic. The larger pizza we customized with sausage, onions, and mushrooms. That one was okay. Comparable to what I've found at other places near by. And then my husband ordered a veal dish that was quite delicious as well. We also ordered the Barbera wine off the menu which was quite impressive and very reasonably priced. Overall we will probably visit here again at some point. Our tab at the end of it for three people and the baby was about a hundred dollars - so not the cheapest that you could have, but the quality is totally worth it! read more

We found Sal's via the "Go Williamsburg" guide and decided to give it a try. Being originally from NYC, I'm always a bit skeptical about trying Italian food while on the road. But the pictures and reviews were convincing and off we went. Everything was fabulous. Sal's is great homestyle Italian cooking that will not disappoint. My companion had the special of Fussilie with seafood, sundried tomato with a pesto cream sauce. The pasta was made that morning and you could totally tell. I have the Rigatoni with marinara and eggplant which was tasty and both were presented very nicely. I also had a glass of house wine from Montepulciano which was quite yummy too. Ordered the paparadelle ragu and a small pizza not knowing what to order. Apparently they do a lot of pickup for orders so they have a separate and very convenient pickup window. You also receive a text when you order so you pay via text which is a first for me. Pizza crust was chewy and crispy and delicious. The ragu was tasty. Everything piping hot.
