Yikes!!! This place gave me the creeps! I ate there when I was going to school at Umass Lowell..thinking it was cheap enough. Well the saying "you get what you pay for" really proves true here! I got calzone and a spinach and cheese omelet/quiche..both of which were cold and crusty upon opening...they seemed as though they were left on a counter for the whole day. The people that worked there seemed as though they weren't old enough to cross the street by themselves (at least when I went there)...and did not care about what they were doing or who they were serving!!! Other than the prices, I was not impressed by the stale consistency of the dough and fillings of the food I got. Even though it did not make me sick., I like knowing my food is of quality and freshness...two of the most important things, even when eating in cheaper establishments..and I know that finding both can be achieved!!! read more

Being from NY (and living 9 years in New Jersey), I became used to a Calzone ALWAYS containing Ricotta Cheese along with the mozzarella, with sauce on the side. Come to find out from my years living in MA and CA, they don't make them like back home. The calzone here in MA (and CA) comes with just mozzarella cheese inside, and most of the time they also put the sauce inside the calzone. Back home, we called that a Pizza Turnover. Most of the time, places here don't even offer ricotta cheese as an available add on. So I usually end up with something else. Anyway, the people at Sal's in Chelmsford, MA accomodated my request to include Ricotta inside (I also add pepperoni also) and have the sauce on the side. The first time I ordered one, they kind of looked at my funny, but the last few times I went, the pizza chef/cook doesn't bat an eye and knows it's me. When I order it (rarely lately though cuz trying to eat healthier), I get one to take home on Fridays after a long work week to share with my wife for when she gets off work at 2:00 am or so the next morning. I usually can only save her 1/3rd of the the calzone, but it's usuall the best part (the middle). Only once did I go there and they did not have ricotta cheese on hand. They offered for me to wait about 20 minutes until they could get some, but I couldn't wait that long with the added time it would take them to make and bake it. By the way, the marinara sauce served with it is great. Friendly service always. read more

Pizza is pretty good. For a 19" pizza, it doesn't fall apart because it's not stretched thin in the middle. This is the only Sal's location that can understand what extra sauce/well done means! Sauce seems different than the other Sal's locations too. Prices are great! read more

Great pizza! Rare to find such good tasting crust and pizza that does not ooze grease. Bonus: inexpensive and fast. Great place for a quick work lunch. I have not had anything else there - I was waiting to get bored with pizza, but has not happened in 5 yrs. read more

The BBQ pulled pork pizza is the best!!! & I'm from Tennessee and I know what good BBQ is.

Pizza is good and the wrap sandwiches are even better....BUT and this is a huge BUT! What is the deal with prices at this place? $22.00 for a large Meat Pizza, that is just highway robbery, or the owner passing along the renovation prices to his customers. There are 5 other pizza place within 2 miles of Sal's that you can get a large Meat Pizza for $6.00 less, that is almost 1/4 of the price. I'm surprised by how many people trashed Sal's. Yeah, the 3 lb pizza that's so big it won't fit in your fridge is ridiculous, but I like it. The crust is chewy, and it's very tomatoey and on the sweet side, but I guess it's a matter of preference... read more

People...customer service is not lost! I found it last night at Sal's. I called and placed a to go order. When I got there, it was not was I had ordered. The cashier apologized and immediately took responsibility for the error and said that they would make a new one it would be 7 - 8 minutes. Then asked if that would be okay... I sit and pull out my phone, 7 - 8 minutes flies by and my order is delivered to me at the table that I am sitting at. I am then given a heartfelt apology. When I ask what I owe, nothing, we made the mistake, we made you wait. Again I say are you sure? It's really not a problem. No, we made a mistake and we own it! United Airlines...come get a lesson from Sal's. I will be back! read more

I ordered a large buffalo chicken pizza. There is an absurd amount of buffalo sauce, and barely any chicken :-( looks like about 1.5 tenders chopped up for a whole large pizza. Crust is always good though! Can't say I'd be running back here... read more

Stopped here for lunch today. Made us wait 30 minutes for 2 subs. Unacceptable. After 15 min I asked where our food was. Oh, it's coming rite up they said. Bull. 15 min later it finally showed up. French fries were cold and soggy and inedible. We were so disgusted we just ate part of our subs and left. Won't be coming back any time soon. read more

My boyfriend and I are new to the area and have already been here numerous times. The pizza slices are sold by the quarter, which includes two large pieces. We normally get two different types based on what looks delicious that's on display and we swap so that we can try both types. So far, we haven't repeated a topping (they have a ton of pre-made types) and we've been pleased with all of them! Especially delicious are their veggie pizzas -- I've never seen such a great variety of veggie toppings -- but their meat pizzas are good too, especially sweet chili chicken! We love to bring friends/family there when they visit. (It doesn't hurt that there's a froyo place in the same building, either!!!) read more

I was disappointed with the pizza I ordered recently from Sal's- the oven needed cleaning, as burnt remnants clung to the crust. The large sandwich was not...large. Sal does a lot for the community, and that's appreciated. But, food-wise, I think he might be living off his old reputation. read more

We ate at Sals tonight and they should be not allowed to use that slogan. If anyone has ever had pizza from the North End - Nothing like Sals. Sals food is barely edible. We got pizza, chix ceaser salad and a chix parm sub and it was all gross. The crust was soggy on the pizza the sause was terrible, the chicken on the salad was all dry and brown around the edges- looked like a science experment gone bad and the sub was not even edible. Dont waste your time or money :( read more

This place rocks! I love the salad bar. You can build your own salad - choose your vegies, chicken, bacon bits, etc. Never need to have the same thing twice. And yes, the pizza is delicous too. read more

I love their large pizza's, I stop by every so often with the family and order a 19 inch pizza. I like the fact that they have a variety of pizza combinations. One thing about Sals is that they may mess up a topping here and there, which is not a big deal. I do wish their pizza's where a bit crispier. However, for the size and price, you can't go wrong. read more

This place is a disaster - typical pizza joint that's been over-franchised. The server (name unimportant) last week smelled; like this person had body odor in a way that made me recall my high school locker room. This person needed a shower in the worst way. Aside from that, the pizza crust was burned in spots, extra dry in others. The sauce was way too sweet - like riddle with cinnamon-in-a-trying-to-be-cool way but sweet and awful. I'm not sure what was in the chicken, but it tasted like glue mixed with thigh meat that hadn't been cooked all the way through. I've been to Sal's once before in Lawrence and I thought it was awful there because it was new, but this has confirmed it for me: the owner is concerned with profit margin and lacks a sense of hygiene for his employees, plus a complete disdain for quality product. If you donate $20k to charities but pull in $2mm delivering a crappy, unhealthy disgusting product, does the charity work win? Methinks not. Sal, your product is junk. Spend less time glad-handing and try to work harder. Your customers deserve better than this junk. read more
