But the Stromboli barely had any meat in it (was supposed, to be sausage but I have never ever seen sausage sliced so thin) and the dipping sauce looked and tasted literally exactly like lukewarm cream of tomato soup straight out of the can. Even the same texture. I questioned the waitress and she informed me that was their "homemade marinara". Um, what? I know what canned soup tastes like. It almost seems like there as many pizza shops as there are people in Elizabethtown. I liken Sals pizza to being a big fish in a small pond. While their pizza is probably the best in town, better can be had elsewhere if you don't mind the drive. Absolutely love the food here! Pizza is tasty, with a family recipe for the crust. Love that it's family owned and not a franchise. I live so close to this location and they were recommended by a friend but I have to say this was one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time My mom came to visit the kids and we decided to grab a bite, I should have known we were in for a ride when it took ten minutes to seat us in an empty restaurant. From there the older server gave us a stink eye for about fifteen minutes before she came over for our order The kicker was when my daughter ordered two Hawaiian pizza slices, when they came out they were plan. When we told her about it, she took then back, threw a slice of ham on it and gave it back. I gave a 6 cent tip and swore I would never go there again. I love Sal's pizza and garlic rolls. We order from here a LOT and while they don't deliver, they have a drive-through menu so that makes things convenient. However, the reason I can't give them 5 stars is how difficult it is to order take-out. There is no menu online and no website. In fact, one random menu we found online said that Sal's had gnocchi. We called to order gnocchi and the girl on the phone was really rude. She told us that we had the wrong phone number and had never heard of gnocchi in her life. What kind of Italian restaurant has never heard of gnocchi. I completely understand not having something on your menu, but the polite response is "Sorry, we don't carry that, what else can I get for you?" Not to insult me and try to convince me that gnocchi is something I made up.... I would have given this place 2 stars after that experience, but they are one of the only places in E-town that you can grab a 6 pack of beer (and they have a pretty good selection) so they get 3 stars. And despite the silly gnocchi issue, we'll be ordering again. I'm telling you, the garlic knots are great, their customer service is not. read more

I assume they are all related or close but she was at wits end w him. I wanted a salad Friday, which I got during my prev trip. It was a 25 min wait. For a salad. Granted a large party of 10-12 just ordered but there were 2 servers and at least 4 cooks. 2 others that ordered cheesesteaks before me got served. And I was waiting for an antipasto salad. Wanted to find a place for cheese steaks and pizza near Elizabethtown. We had cheese steaks (without the sauce), cheese steak boli, and Sal's meat tortellini. They were all excellent! We picked up a pizza for later. Planning to try their subs soon. Hopefully they are as good as the ones we have here in Delaware. read more

Truly a horrible experience! First, there was a table beside me getting food. A woman ask for her pasta or whatever it was to be LIGHTLY sauced. The waitress brought it out and right away said "uh yeah it's a lot of sauce, we make it all in one big batch." No apology. Nothing. Strike 1. THEN, she says to her "um I can put it in a strainer for you" UMMM no. Strike 2. On top of all that chaos, other people were waiting for their food for over an hour as was I for pick up. My pizza was ready right away and I finally opened it and it wasn't what I ordered. When I brought this to the cashier's attention... she says "uh all I heard was broccoli pizza" when I said white pizza with broccoli on it. No apology once again nor did she reassure me it would be fixed, she just took the box of pizza and walked away. Strike 3. So I'm pretty much over this place at this point. The icing on the cake was.... a woman walked out after she paid because she waited entirely too long. Her husband came back and demanded their money back. He voiced how ridiculous this place was and told the cook to not even look at him. The cook quite literally told him to "go somewhere else then!" We have ordered from Sals many times. The food is good. However they have to work on customer service. Picking up at the drive thru is pretty bad. The emplyees will look at you and not acknowledge that you exist and walk away. Also when using a coupon they arw reluctant to let you use it. And dont always give you the coupon value off. read more

I stopped in with three others over the busy 4th of July weekend. We never would have found this little gem, except we had to stay out of the way b/c of all the hotels in Harrisburg being completely booked. I didn't feel very excited about a pizza joint, quite honestly, but it seemed a better idea than the Burger King across the street. Man was i pleasantly surprised. The Greek Salad is SO GOOD--plump seedless kalamata olives, a pretty tasty dressing, and decent feta chunks adorn the lettuce mixture. They warned us that they were out of romaine, so they used other greens, but we were all happy. It was crisp and fresh. And the garlic bread it comes with was steaming hot, out of the oven, and so fluffy and buttery.... yum. Then, the tomato and cheese medium pizza: a good size, and it is topped like a real italian pizza-- completely covered in sauce with pockets of real cheese, but with more crust than you'd typically have. Lastly, one of us ordered the Hawaiian cheeseburger, and cheeseburger, it is not. It is a monster-sized sandwhich, on a hoagie bun, with 2 or 3 burger patties cut in half and lining the bread, with shredded lettuce, pineapple chunks, and more. I did not try his burger but he seemed to like it a lot, and even saved half for lunch (thats how big it is). The curly fries he got with it were seasoned and yummy-- one friend said they taste just like Arby's fries. I was really happy. I will probably never be out that way again which is too bad-- Ive been craving Sal's for days. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences in my life! We had a large party, but had made reservations. The restaurant was not particularly busy at the time. The waitress was very nice and took our order. We waited over 90 minutes to get our salads and pizza!! One pasta dish came out very mushy and was sent back. When we approached the kitchen to ask where our salads and pizza were, an older man and woman were extremely rude to us! They didn't accept the fact their pasta dish was mushy and unacceptable. They also blamed our waitress for our late pizzas. There gave no apologies and they were very arrogant. When our salads finally came out, there was a live bug in one of them. Again, no apologies. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool. There were 7 adults at the table, to whom they could have passed along positive comments to others, IF they had had a good experience at Sal's. Instead 7 people will tell as many people as they can, to NEVER set foot in that restaurant (if you can call it that)! read more

The owner is a total jerk. He was yelling at another customer who was complaining that after waiting forever the food came out cold. I actually thought the owner was trying to start a physical fight (given his size and wheezing, the owner would have lost). When our food finally arrived it was bland, cold, and must have taken some real work to actually screw up pizza. I would avoid this place like the plague. We were not greeted at the door and sat for 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. Worst service in my life. We waited 25 minutes for my salad. My boyfriend had to convince me not to walk out. We tried this for the first time, after hearing of some friends who liked it well enough, and others who had very bad experiences with the service inside and/or the food. When I called to order a large pepperoni pizza, and a cheesesteak with onions and sauce, the person that answered the phone didn't speak great english and was very hard to understand, and we had to go back and forth a few times with my order. We picked up at the drive-in window, which was convenient and the female employee was pleasant. We got home with the food. I unwrapped the cheesesteak, and a thick black hair was blatantly right on top of the bread. This was already a huge problem. So moving onto the pizza, it was gummy and so extremely greasy on the top from the cheese and pepperoni, but the bottom of the box was covered in grease from the crust. Not good at all. And we've always liked P&Js in Etown, especially for cheesesteaks and hot subs, and this restaurant is owned by the same family. Thank goodness there are good pizza places in town, cause we won't be trying this place a second time. read more

It is the closest pizza place to our house and I will never go there again. No matter the reason.....no matter how much I crave even crappy pizza. Never again. We wanted slices....No slices.....Had to order a whole pizza. Had to sit down...just wanted slices to go....Nope. We waited....and waited...and waited. We waited for one hour for that pizza. Pizza is gross. Sandwiches are the ONLY thing they'd have going for them because they make their own rolls. Customer service, however, is severely lacking. We placed a large order of food (close to $100) for a family gathering. The order included a couple pizzas and subs. We waited the amount of time stated when we placed the order, then headed over to pick up our order. When we arrived they were gathering items and could not locate one of our pizzas. They then, while laughing, stated "oh wait I gave that pizza to someone else!" We had to sit and wait for an extra 15-20 mins while they made us another pizza. The pizza finally was done and we were on our way. When I got to our car, I checked the rest of our items to make sure everything was correct. The one sub had bread that was incredibly burnt and hard as a rock. I took the sandwich back in to show them and to request a different sandwich roll. The owner sal proceeded to argue with me that it was fine, it was just the way it got?! What?! He then stated "fine, I'll get you a new one, but you will have to wait for them to come out." I was fine with that, so I waited. The fresh bread came out and I was handed a new sub. I checked it just to be sure it was ok and found that they took all of the meat out of my Italian sub (which was previously there!). I had to take my sandwich back in yet again and show them what happened. The older lady working there mumbled something in Italian to the owner and cook and I got a new sandwich. Meanwhile, the owner never offered an apology about what happened. He wouldn't even look over in my direction as I stood waiting for yet another sandwich to be made. Completely disgusted by this place. We placed a large order here and instead of being grateful for our business, we were treated extremely poorly. I don't even want to know what goes on behind the scenes if this is what they do in front of customers. Avoid this place at all costs! Drive 5 mins down the road to papas pizza in mount joy.
