One of our favorite pizza places around, fresh ingredients, pesto bread is so amazing.

The food was extremely enjoyable. The pizza had a nice little crunch when you first bit in, and it was extremely enjoyable! Fresh ingredients, (trust me, you can taste them) and the service was great too. Second I walked in, he started recommending pizzas or sides, and wasn't overly pushy, either. The ambiance was also very nice, with pictures and photos of what I was guessing to be Sal, and the inside had this nice rustic cabin-y look to it, feeling very homely. Would come back! read more

We do pizza Friday almost every week and Sal's is always in the rotation! Their ranch and pesto breadsticks are a dream combo, definitely get them. The owner is super friendly and you can tell every pizza is made with love and care. Meatball Parmesan sandwich was so tasty and delicious! It tasted like pizza in a sandwich! I could not decide on which beer to try so the server allowed me to sample before choosing. I made my selection and I can't remember the name, but it was. So refreshing and helped wash down the delicious sandwich. read more

We decided to try sals pizza for an easy dinner and they were fast and close by. They were very friendly and easy to find in cotati near the bars. We got a half and half on a large pizza and the combination was good! The sausages are a must! They were delicious. The other half was ok but a little sour tasting for me with the olives and artichoke heart. I did think the salad was a little small too but was pretty good the croutons were bomb! read more

After moving back to Sonoma County, from New England, we have been trying pizza place after pizza place to find our new pizza home. One day we were feeling some pizza adventure so we checked to see who the closest pizza parlor was to us that we hadn't been to yet and that is how we found Sal's. The night we placed our order, I think it was about 5:00 p.m. on a weeknight and I ordered a large pizza with half pepperoni and the other half with cheese eggplant. I decided on the eggplant because I had never seen eggplant on a pizza before and being the mostly vegetarian that I am I thought I'd give it a try. They told us it would be ready in about an hour which I thought was a long time but we said sure why not. Once we got the pizza back to our house, it smelled good and looked okay but that's about as far as it went. The crust was dry and super bland, the sauce was very mild, and the cheese was sort of gritty or chalky. The worst part was their eggplant which tasted a little bit like cardboard that had sat in the sink full of dishes for a while. While the taste of the eggplant was bad, the texture was even worse. Unfortunately the eggplant was so bad, it flavored all the pizza that it touched and I ended up throwing my half of the pizza out. You might say wow that's a really bad experience but how was the other half? Good question I would say. The other half was very unremarkable and to be honest, there are a lot of very solid sort of entry-level pizza parlors out here when you just want something not super fancy or gourmet. Given all of those options, sal's will not be on our "try again soon" list. Prices were fine and wait was long for a less than standard pizza and the quality and flavors were both solidly one star. read more

I don't write many reviews, because I just don't have the time, but when I find a place like Sal's, I make time. I'm originally from New York and a bit of a pizza fanatic... The type that eats it for breakfast, lunch and dinner when I go home 3 or 4 times a year, and bring back 20lbs of it in my duffel bag every time, to stick in the freezer. Heard about this spot and was lucky enough to find myself in the neighborhood the other day and swung by to try it out. Was greeted by Anthony as soon as I walked in the door and knew right away by his knowledge and enthusiasm that he was the rockstar of this place. Food is going to speak for itself, but service unfortunately is something that is lacking nowadays. He told me all about the history and how everything was made, including their homemade Panna cotta. Saw on the menu that there was a chicken parm hero which I am always on the hunt for and decided to put the pizza on pause until my next trip. Started with a Caesar salad with nice crunchy croutons, and that signature tang of Caesar dressing that I love. Next was a pretty amazing chicken parm hero on a nice toasty piece of Italian bread and finished it off with the star of the show, some of the creamiest panna cotta that I am told is made in house and it shows. We love their calzones! Every time we come here we order meat and combo calzones and it's delicious. The crust is perfect! It's also a decent amount of food with so many toppings and a really good sauce. You definitely won't be hungry after that. Highly recommend! read more

I love a New York style pizza but it was just ok. The edge of the crust was stiff and dry which was disappointing. It had minimal sauce and very little cheese. It might have been an off night but my first time ordering was less than I had hoped. I ordered online and picked it up and the pick up was easy, friendly and quick. It's a good alternative to the chain restaurant pizzas and I'll probably try a different type pizza next time. read more

The pizza slices came out piping hot and freshly made. This was an unusual surprise from a pizza slice house. Pizza toppings from fresh roasted garlic, sautéed mushrooms, clams and garlic to ham and pineapple were all delicious accompaniments. The nice amount of cheese and sauce was also tasty. Pizza was excellent. I was told 25 minutes for pick up, I got there a little ahead of time, pizza was not only ready and boxed, the cheese had a consistency of cardboard telling me it was made, and put under heat lamps. Bummer. Other than that disappointment, it was really good. Next time I'll just go, order and eat it there. read more

What can I say? The food was absolutely delicious. I am highly allergic to cheese which is hilarious but I got breadsticks, the arugula salad, and the chocolate cake. All three were out of this world. The place is adorable. It's small on the inside, but filled with personality. The service was the best part - it's not every day you come in with 40 hungry (and hangry) high school students and we all left happy and full. The owner was SO nice and accommodating - he even brought his own chairs from home to fit all of us in and outside of the restaurant. 10/10, I will make a stop at Sal's anytime I pass through the area. Even though I'm allergic to cheese. I think that's saying a lot. read more

I've walked and driven by Sal's plenty of times, and had always thought "I need to try this place out!" I decided to head over on Pi Day (3/14) to get my pizza fix and finally try them out. It's a great spot! The interior is very small, so I'd recommend not coming in a large group, unless you're planning to take it home immediately. Otherwise, it's a nice place for individuals or small groups. They have a handful of specials which include slices made with the toppings of your choice. The base is just cheese, and toppings are 50 cents to $1 more per slice, depending on the topping. That might sound like a lot for just a slice, but the slices are large and the toppings are generous. I ordered a pineapple and bacon slice and a sausage and jalapeño slice. Both were great! I really enjoyed the texture and spice of the sausage. Getting two 50 cent toppings on each slice was definitely the right move. I haven't had a full pizza, but I imagine those are just as good - if not better. The quality of pizza toppings they have there would likely make for a great combo pizza. If you're dining in, they have a limited beer and wine selection, and there's an option to upgrade your soda to a beer with the lunch special. So the other day, after running some errands nearby we made a snap decision to pick up pies for dinner. When searching thin crust options online this popped up as closeby and contained the best food porn. The draw was a couple photos of the pesto twists, I had to try it! Think.. pesto, gooey cheese and warm bread. Oh so good! Made an order for a large combo pie for adults and an all cheese for the kids. Also ordered the cheesy pesto twists and a large spinach salad. Food was ready in the time allotted but when I got to the pizza joint I realized I missed out on some pizza deals! Bummer. I was already paying some twenty something dollars for a large pie, had I known about the deals I could have gotten some freebies too. I think the deal was a large pie, breadsticks, something else and a soda for $20 something.. which would have been right up my alley. Their prices are not cheap, this is pricey for thin crust za and some appetizers. The crust was an appetizing thinness with crust you would eat, not just throw away. An afterthought was to order something "well done." I think the za would have had a crispy crunch to it. Perhaps next time. -- The next time came about two days later when we stopped in to grab appetizers. Pesto twists and breadsticks. Both are made in house and are #sogood the thing I don't get is this, these appetizers carry a premium cost and yet none come with sauce. You must purchase sauce.. TF!? right? $1.50 per sauce.. what robbery. I get it, you guys create everything but how the heck will people get to know your sauces if you charge for all of them. What if the $1.50 is paid and I/we/the web hates it? Can we get a refund then? I can't believe I spent almost $30 on two bread appetizers with 4 sauces. $30 for bread is effing insane, the actual cost is some $26.. still, that's too much dough. Good thing I was on vacation. By the time I come out next time I may have forgotten this review and will only remember the goodness of the pizza. Maybe, or maybe I try another pizza vendor. read more
