"I've been looking around a while You've got something for me Oh, I've got a brand-new pair of roller skates You've got a brand-new key" (Melanie) They are brand new, and have some service issues to iron out, but our dinner from the brand-new Salsa Fresca in Avon was excellent. If you're familiar with the menu and the ordering process at Chipotle or Moe's, you'll feel right at home at Salsa Fresca. You order your food by moving down the ordering line "Subway Style" and select 1) your style -Burrito, Bowl, Tacos, Salad, Nachos or Quesadilla, 2) your protein - chicken, 2 kinds of beef, pork, or roasted veggies, 3) your extras -cheese, guacamole, pico, corn, beans, etc. You can customize your meal as above or go with one of their "Signature" dishes or specials. All choices come with a bag of very lightly salted chips and a container of fresh salsa. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and a customized "Made to Order" Salad Bowl with Chipotle Chicken. They totaled $23 after tax and before tip. My salad bowl included Mexican rice, chicken, lettuce, pico, roasted vegetables, fajita onions and peppers, and a spicy salsa. It was a HUGE portion, I liked it a lot, and thought it tasted great. My wife's chicken quesadilla looked pretty stacked with chicken, and her portion was big enough that we know what we'll have for dinner Saturday night. Being so new, we definitely saw some improvement opportunities on the service side. #1 - Each individual order is to include a small bag of chips and a container of salsa. We had to ask for our second bag, and there was no second container of salsa. #2 Our experiences while ordering and while signing up for their Rewards Club did not go smoothly and required a more experienced worker to jump in and navigate the serving line and get us signed up on line. #3 After we signed up for the Rewards Club, the screen flashed a message "Congrats for signing up -you get a free guacamole and 50 points for joining". The server said we get the free guacamole NEXT time, not now, which is 1,000% at variance to what we saw on the screen. Eventually, she conceded our point and gave us one of those 1/4 cup containers of guac., which by the way was fantastic. But it was disappointing to have to argue for it. Bottom Line? The food was excellent, portions were big, and the overall value is very good. On a side note, yesterday was their soft opening, and all customer orders were free, But I was disgusted to hear about one piggish customer that ordered 14 things and probably needed a wheelbarrow to transport his free bounty. What a greedy pig!

These days it's hard to find a cafe that isn't overpriced and better than just average. But Toasted Oat hits the high points of quality of cook on the food, even if the ingredients may not all be top notch. They have breakfast sandwiches, bowls and scrambles, as well as regular sandwiches, salads and burritos. We enjoyed the regular breakfast sandwich with spinach and cheese (subbed the meat but wish the spinach had been cooked in - $7) and the breakfast scramble which included 2 eggs, 3 veggies, cheese, protein all mixed/cut up together, as well as hash brown (didn't exactly look homemade?) and toast ($11). Everything was served in to-go containers so the looks weren't the best but makes sense given the place and that most people probably don't dine in. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Everything takes time to come out so you know it's done to order. They also have some coffee and tea. They had a few coffee cake items in a glass display but didn't look homemade either. It feels like a cafe should have more selection of pastries but again bother me. Service was friendly and patient. The actual location isn't that great visually either. There is one longer table and a few smaller ones, but it's not a big place and not decorated to impress (fine by me!) It is located in a small nondescript plaza with an Indian market. Small parking lot. Wish this small business well!

My brunch buddy and I had to make a last minute change of plans, so we landed at Toasted OAT today for breakfast. There are a few tables in a roped off section of the parking lot to eat outside. Inside, there's a long table in the middle, 3 smaller tables on the left, and a bar at the window. We had no problem getting a seat, but it seems like it's more of a take-and-go place than a destination to eat. There are a lot of customizations you can make to your food order, which is more easily done in their online ordering system--but there's a $1.95 service fee to use it. My friend and I made our decisions based off of that system but ordered at the counter. While there are a lot of breakfast and lunch options, there aren't many beverages. Coffee, hot chocolate, and tea are the mainstays for warm beverages, and all cold beverages other than cold brew coffee are prepackaged bottles in a cooler and run just short of $4. Every order, whether it's take-out or eat-in, is served in disposable packaging with disposable utensils. I ordered the Reuben bowl without eggs and a side waffle with syrup. Kind of love that I could get a side waffle. It took a while for the food to come out. It felt longer than it should have been for how few people were there, but I didn't time it. My waffle was cold. The tator tots in the Reuben bowl, however, were cooked perfectly, as were my friend's hash browns. Everything tasted great. If you're looking for the picturesque weekend brunch experience, this isn't it. But if you want a quick bite that's well made with quality ingredients and no-fuss beverages, you'll be very happy here. Even more so if you want to take it on the go.

That's because when you pull into the shopping plaza.....you don't see it. But if you circle around to the right, you'll see it on the side of the strip mall's buildings. And trust me, this spot is definitely worth hunting down to experience a standout breakfast or lunch. We walked in a little before 1:00 yesterday and found a table for two in the back left corner of the dining room, so we had a good view of the entire room. I have to tell ya, the place was packed! Breakaway closes at 3:00 every day except Sunday (2:00), and there were breakfast and lunch menus out, plus a few daily specials. My wife went with a "William's Ham Panini" ($17) with thin sliced ham, bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and honey mustard on a grilled panini. We both were struck at how much ham was piled onto her sandwich. She had a few choices for a side dish and put her nickel down on potato salad. I went with The JT Salad ($16). The menu says it's been their "best-selling salad 25 years and counting". It was a big portion of mixed greens served with house balsamic dressing, grape tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese, and grilled chunks of teriyaki glazed chicken breast. It was stellar, with plenty of that yummy cheese and chicken. The only sour note with our lunch was a rather steep $4.25 for a glass of iced tea that was half-filled with ice. The food was very good and a decent amount of leftovers came home with us for another day. I was unexpectedly impressed by how crowded Bistro was on a random Monday. I bet you'll be too.

It has some hometown charm with a relatively large menu. We enjoyed the pad woon sen (flavorful), tamarind duck (crispy), fried rice, vegetable soup (healthy and nice broth that wasn't too salty), and lemongrass stir fry with tofu. The entrees are about $16-20 each. The sauce for the pad thai wasn't our favorite and tasted a bit too sweet. We also enjoyed the crispy spring rolls with taro and nonsteamed spring rolls. We would pass on the hot tea next time as it was just a regular tea bag. Service was welcoming. The space looks like a small two-story home with a few tables inside. Reservations are probably necessary since the place isn't big. They have a private parking lot so finding a spot is easy. Since it's on a busy road, making a left turn leaving can be a pain.

We also had the asian calamari; it's fried battered squid, banana peppers, and a side of sweet chili. This was mouthwatering good and it was a 4/5. I had a cesar half salad which was toothsome; the dressing, parmesan, croutons, and salad ratio was perfection. My main entree, I had the prosciutto wrapped cod; that is baked cod, wrapped with prosciutto, served over parmesan risotto and broccoli with lemon butter. The showstopper was the parmesan risotto, I could eat a gallon of that lol. The cod was okay, it needed more flavor but the prosciutto definitely helped with the flavor.
