I had a local company come out to bid on some furnace work after the company I had a service subscription with missed something big, but they gave me bad vibes, very sales-focused. Given my track record with service pros, I decided to just tackle it myself. Fast forward to last night: I woke up at 3am in a panic wondering if I'd done it all wrong and convinced we would die from carbon monoxide poisoning. This morning I called SOS Heating and Cooling, and honestly, this is the kind of service that reminds you good people still exist in this industry. Jake came out the same day. He actually listened to my concerns instead of talking over me. He walked me through everything, put my mind completely at ease, and (here's the kicker) he's the only HVAC professional I've ever met who didn't immediately try to upsell me on seven different things. Capable, honest, sympathetic, and straightforward. That's it. That's what good service looks like. SOS Heating and Cooling has earned a customer for life. They'll be my go-to for anything plumbing or HVAC from here on out. If you're in the SLC area and need someone you can actually trust, I can't recommend them enough.

The condenser dates from 2004 and the inside portion dates from 1994 (original to the house.) So the idea that things were terminal isn't all that out there. Turns out worst fears were unwarranted. The capacitor had failed and required replacement and I concurred with him that changing the contactor was prudent as well (18+ years of cycling on & off, why not?) I called his number at 0800, Mike called at 0946, showed a few minutes later. He was done & driving away by 1030. System fixed, washed down and blowing cold air. I couldn't be happier.

I was fed up with the company recommended by our home insurance carrier after three winters of our furnace out more than it was working, while being nickel&dimed to death, being stood up, shamed, and literally shouted at by that company... so I got a second opinion and was horrified to learn our furnace had a crack in the heat exchanger and for our safety the gas had to be shut off. The original company said they'd be back in *three weeks* to give us a quote. With freezing weather approaching, and me with a serious heart condition I was DONE! Jeff and Paul stayed at our house to fix the many issues for two days. We had to replace the units the other company put in. Wish we would have used air now the first time around. They are very honest and you can trust there work. Our house has never been this cool in the 7 years we have lived here. Other companies have told us we needed to add more registers in our home, but after they fixed the problems our house is sometimes too cold. We are so happy and I know their work is good and safe as we found out the other company cut alot of corners that made it unsafe for our family.

To our recollection we have never posted a negative review, but our experience with Blue Best…read morewarrants one. We met with Blue Best late in 2024 to discuss our concern with air temps in our house, specifically temps in our living room and kitchen, which have high ceilings and southern exposure and become uncomfortably hot in summer. We were very clear about our concern, and the salesperson spent hours assessing our home and assured us his proposed system would solve the problem. We accepted the ~$14,000 bid to install a heat pump solution based on that assurance. By summer 2025, the living room and kitchen were still too hot on most sunny days. Despite many service visits and repeated adjustments (baffles, registers, fan speeds, etc.), the issue was never resolved. Blue Best ultimately stated the system was operating as designed and implied the problem was with our home, not their installation.  In our opinion, Blue Best is very good at selling a solution, but not so good at ensuring that solution meets what the customer needs. Two independent HVAC contractors opined: -Our ductwork is in good condition. -The thermostat, furnace, and compressor Blue Best installed were not properly matched. -Basic industry-standard load calculations (e.g., Manual J) were apparently not done, which would have shown the system was undersized for our home's layout, windows, and sun exposure. Blue Best has declined to remove the system or refund our payment, instead relying on fine print in the contract. We are now pursuing legal options. We have since spent ~$12,000 on a mini-split system from another contractor, which works as intended. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Blue Best and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere.
