Great seafood spot, my favorite is to sit at the bar and have wine & oysters. We tried the winter fresh sheet last night and IT WAS INCREDIBLE! The garlic bread knots (only 5 bucks!) melt in your mouth, so good we ate half before I could get a picture. The octopus was crispy on the outside and so tender/poached on the inside, it's an interesting twist with a hoisin sauce glaze. Next we had the pork shank; Slow cooked and fall off the bone, served over cannellini beans and collard greens. It was an elevated ham & bean soup, with a little spicy kick. Our service was perfect. The star of the night was the Snow Globe dessert, slightest hint of peppermint, beautiful presentation, like nothing we've ever had. We tried our Salt and Iron as part of Seattle Restaurant week and it was definitely worth it. The food in wonderful. The three course dinner is $65--but absolutely worth it. They come with some recommended wine pairings for an additional price which is always welcome. They also have a great cocktail menu. I just wine that was recommended (and very good), but others who had cocktails absolutely loved them--particularly the Bolivar. I started with the oysters. They came with pickled apples and a mignonette and were absolutely delicious. There were only three and I could have easily eaten a dozen. As good as those were, I also tried the bison tartare and that might haven been even better. It had a wonderful flavor and tasted so nice on the crostini. The quail egg was an inspired choice. For the main course, I had the steak frites. It was just perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly and just melted in your mouth. As good as that steak was, someone in party went off of the Seattle Restaurant menu to have the filet steak frites here and that was even better. The shoestring potatoes were spot on also. I also tried the salmon dish. It was perfectly seasoned and moist, superbly well-cooked. There was a generous portion of garlic mashed potatoes that had just the right amount of garlic and then the broccolini was also very good. We all loved our dishes. For dessert, they had a choice of an affogato or pumpkin flan. I do not drink coffee and not a big fan of pumpkin flavor, so I ordered the affogato for another person. They absolutely loved it. I tried the pumpkin flan. It was OK, but I am not a fan of flan either. Overall, it was a really excellent meal. Excellent service! Typical PNW menu choices with over the top flavor! Everything was very fresh! We ordered 20 or so oysters and they were super delicious and buttery! We also ordered the calamari, beet salad, corn and bone marrow! All excellent choices with hefty portion sizes. They were out of the tequila I wanted but they made up for it with one of their yummy craft cocktails. Make a reservation bc this place gets busy! Salt and Iron is better as a brunch spot than a dinner spot to me. As a vegetarian there isn't a ton on the menu I can or want to eat, but there is some (they've improved upon this over the years). Their Benedict is great, hollandaise has good flavor. Potatoes are roasted and seasoned well. Breakfast cocktails are tasty. Cinnamon roll is LUSH. Service could be slightly better. Or can be hard to catch a waiter's attention, even if you go right when they open and they aren't that busy... But it's good enough. We'll go back just for the ease and the freshness of the food. read more

Was finally able to grab a reservation here at 8pm. Worked out perfectly as we just were getting off the ferry at 7:30. All I can say is Wow! We started with some of the best oysters that I have ever had. Ended up ordering a second round of them. I had the short Rib for dinner and it was to die for. Second time here and though I'd prefer 4.5 start due to the loud environment, I have to say that we were seated in the bar area and I could have asked for a different location, but didn't. Was meeting some now-retired work colleagues and wanted to catch up without having to raise our voices. Meeting up at 4pm was a good time for this because by 5pm the bar area was loud enough that raising your voice was required. I don't like that kind of dynamic anytime but when reuniting it's especially unwelcome. All that said, we did alright, so it was never just overwhelming. As for food: delicious! Happy hour menu includes steak tartare and a small portion of the filet. Both were great choices and I have to especially compliment the chefs on the sliced filet, which was cooked perfectly and oh, so tender. The thin fries are a nice compliment - do ask for less salt if you don't want them pretty salty. Both my companions ordered the clam (or was it seafood) chowder and both of them were very pleased. I didn't order alcohol but did get coffee, which was acceptable. The price, especially with the happy hour orders, was a pretty good value. Edmonds has a winner with this place! read more

Great option in Edmonds for a delicious brunch or dinner (which we had back to back after enjoying our dinner so much)! Our dinner server was spot on with service and table touches. The heater is great on the patio and dining outside alleviates my anxiety of dining in doors these days. My oysters and mussels were cooked to perfection and so tender. The mussel broth was also unique, with a strong paprika flavor and a bite to finish, not the usual white wine/beer and garlic combo. The oysters were a hearty pacific size and not too battered so they stayed center stage. My honey loved his burger, which was a steal at HH pricing, and his shoe string potatoes satisfied all of his cravings. We longed for the brownie dessert (sounded like perfection!) but learned it's no longer on the menu. They're waiting on new menu paper. Brunch: Our server was also pleasant and quick, I think we were out in half an hour for both meals. We split a chicken fried chicken plate with grits, a apple cranberry Kringle, and a croque madame with paprika potatoes with a drip coffee. The chicken fried chicken was a stand out, with a lovely crispy coating that stayed that way with the usual shift of the gravy on the grits. Eggs were perfect on top. Excellent choice! The Kringle was also a fun surprise with apples and plenty of tart cranberries to counter the sweet simple glaze. The madame was meh for both of us--the prosciutto was way too many layers for cutting through or the salt sensitive. The eggs were more cooked and buried. The béchamel had so little flavor I'd rather have a slice of Gruyère. The drip was adequate. What a busy downtown scene Edmonds is--such a lively place to eat on the sidewalk with a steady flow of puppers and their people amidst the highest concentration of local art shops I've seen in the PNW. We were there for Father's Day dinner. It has been a few years since I was there. Of course, that night was busy. The hostess are very friendly and have smiles on their face. We were greeted immediately and was taken to our table . It took a little while for the server to stop by. We understand as it was a busy night. But she appeared she was not happy to be there, no smile, and was only doing her job, took the order, that was it. The food itself was not as amazing as I recall. The plates were hot but the food was just like warm. They probably sat at the warming station for a while. At the end of the dinner, we were hoping for desert but they do not have what my hubby wanted so we made a joke to the server, that's the time she had a grin on her face. I would not go back again. You know, I really love this place, but here's what knocks it down a couple of stars for me: First is the fact that there is almost never any walk in availability. It's all reservations and if you decide to try and go on a whim, you'll definitely be dining elsewhere or waiting an hour plus. The second part is that they can't ever seem to cook their burger right. It always comes out piping hot, dry and so overcooked the burger meat is gray. Other than that, most of their food is good though some dishes are really hit or miss and their menu changes so much that if you liked something, chances are it'll be gone next time and they won't prepare it for you again even if all of the ingredients are still on the menu (Looking at you crispy fingerling potatoes). There was also that one time there was a host (teenage boy) who was very unhelpful when we were trying to get a table and didn't even offer to take our names down so we could wait for the next table to open. read more

I went here for brunch with a friend on a Saturday a few months ago, and was very impressed with this restaurant! The food is very high-quality. That includes their "famous" cinnamon roll, which I recommend sharing! (Or get one to take home!) I think I had an eggs Benedict; it's been a while, so I'm not exactly sure that's what it was, but it was very tasty and I finished every bite. My friend had a chicken fried steak with hashbrowns, and it was enormous! She took about half of it home! The service was also excellent, attentive without hovering. And while we stayed extra long due to a need for much catching up with each other, we never felt hurried or had any sense of them wanting to clear our table for somebody else. The restaurant has nice ambience, very relaxing despite being filled with customers. It's obviously a very popular place, for good reason. I look forward to having another chance to come back here soon. - I would recommend giving yourself extra time to find a parking spot, as it is just street parking and it's a busy area. read more

This review is purely for the dinner service, I'd say the brunch was forgetful and you're best served walking a block or so over to the Rusty Pelican. We saw their "Seattle Restaurant Week" menu and decided to give them a shot, a great opportunity to use the gift card our realtor got us when we moved to town. It turned out to be so good we made the bold move of eating here twice in a week. The smoked old fashioned was better than the sum of its parts and shouldn't be overlooked. Not a smoke bomb or an unwelcome bitter firepit, it was a well balanced drink that made even the the mid shelf whiskey sing. I'm not a fan of walnut bitters but I have to admit they were a perfect balance for the sweeter notes of the syrup. We both ordered the same lineup each visit, a tasty smoked salmon and crab cake with a house tartar to start topped with microgreens and pickled red onions to give it that perfect acid note. We followed this with a medium rare prime steak with shoestring fries and probably the best house ranch we've had (for the fries, not the steak you monsters). Dessert was a Macrina cinnamon bread pudding with a scoop of ice cream and a candied bacon garnish. If I had one complaint it was the serving size of the bacon--half a piece was just a tease. If, like us, you've tried their brunch and left no more than whelmed give them a shot for dinner. We're glad we did. read more

Inattentive and unprofessional service ruined our experience. We went to Salt and Iron for our anniversary dinner. The server didn't even seem trained; our salads came first, before the wine and before the bread. We waited to start eating our salads until the wine arrived since we had been waiting and waiting for our wine first. A wine chiller didn't show up until 1/2 way through dinner. Same with the bread. Everything was disjointed and out of order. Anything we asked our server for never happened, and we would have to ask someone else. We never even received our boxed leftover. This was my second visit here and I was so blown away by my first visit, I had expectations of the same this time but was left a little lack luster. The octopus starter was really nice and so was the S&I 75 cocktail. Was really let down by the duck cassoulet dish I ordered. It wasn't quiet as I imagined per the description. I expected the cassoulet to be more white bean forward but it had maybe 5 individual white beans, the majority of it was corn peas green beans. This honestly looked and tasted like a slightly better frozen vegetable medley mix. Really hate saying that because the Berkshire porkchop I had before was outstanding. The duck was really salty and oddly tasted more like ham. If it hadnt been served on the bone I wouldn'thave been able to tell it was duck. The one bite that had the chimichurri was nice, but really didn't seem to fit with the vegtable stew it was served on. Was really looking forward to another outstanding meal but this visit left a lot to be desired. When clearing our dishes from our appetizer, I opted to keep my smaller fork rather than the larger dinner fork. Just my personal preference. The waiter decided to switch my smaller fork from my silverware I had set aside for dinner for the dinner fork I had put with our used dishes at the end of the table. Just felt like I was being shamed for using the appetizer sized fork for my dinner. Would've appreciated being asked if I would like to use the dinner fork rather than it just being swapped out without asking. Felt a little pretentious and unwelcoming in nature. This place is amazing hands down. I do think it's a bit pricey during normal hours but the food is still worth it. The happy hour is very good and so is the brunch. The brunch is honestly where it's at. The steak Benedict with some oysters in the side. Maybe a mimosa or a beer, let's goooooo. I would say that they need to update and add to the beer selection for the nw but that is just a personal preference. If you are an ipa drinker it's either sea pine on draft or Reuben's in a can. Tips that would bump to 5-star would be - (1) allow for some flexibility in the menu - was very strict about how things could be prepared, like swapping sauces - I had read the online menu prior to arriving and was all set to order what was there but the in-restaurants had been updated the day before with a slightly different preparation of the same dish - no flexibility which I'd expect some there at this price point. (2) A bit more options for wines by the glass. Suggest a trip to Woodinville or Walla Walla to get an update there - and with a less strict 4 oz. cost control pour. read more

I love Salt and Iron, every time I visit; my family and I receive exceptional service and amazing food. The last few times we dined, we were lucky enough to have Dana host us throughout our meal. We wanted a cider off the drink menu but it was sold out so Dana brought us another option and it complimented our oysters and calamari. The oysters were fresh and the ice that comes along with it is so good which is one of the reasons I keep returning. Usually restaurants have lemon and tabasco along with the dish but I think the acidic ice is a VERY nice touch. For the main course we had the Salt and Iron ribeye, prawns and shoestring french fries. They had a chimichurri sauce on the steak and Dana brought out some jalapeño aioli for the fries, everything was delicious. Every time I eat at the restaurant, I already want to come back. Dana constantly kept checking in with us and ensured everything was to our liking. He genuinely made an effort to connect with us, Dana has the "aloha" which most restaurants lack these days.
