Salt & Marrow is a great place to eat, have a drink and relax & unwind! I like the decor and lighting, not too subtle and not too over the top. The staff was very very friendly and prompt. The food was splendid, hot well portioned. I ate the steak and potatoes entree, to which my steak was cooked exactly as I ordered. My steak was soft and literally melted in my mouth with every chew. (I rarely eat steak in public). The Shishito Peppers & Cobia Caviche starters were scrumptious! For perspective, for five stars you have to knock my socks off; I don't do a lot of 5 stars. 3 stars means it is ok, not bad, not outstanding. We are locals and wanted to see about this place. It's been open about a year so they should have all the kinks worked out. We went early on a Tuesday; only ones there at that time. New hotel, nice facility. We did get asked if we had a reservation; a little eye roll on that note. Menu isn't extensive, which is probably good. Do a few things well rather than a lot and miss some. Probably a little more unique hotel restaurant menu than a typical hotel restaurant. There were enough choices to meet our needs. I got the shrimp and grits and my wife got the steak and potatoes. The steak was a fillet, decent sized and cooked as she asked for. It was good and no issues. Upon the advice of the waitress, I got the shrimp and grits with the Tasso gravy on the side. I'm glad I did, it was definitely on the hot pepper side; a little went a long way. It was good, just a little more peppery than I go for. The grits were very well prepared, nice and thick like I like them. Shrimp were okay, nothing special there. Dipping the shrimp and grits lightly in the gravy was sufficient to give me the intended kick. Overall, a decent dinner. No issues with the service, but again it was early and we were the sole customers. My only kick were the prices. A little high for the experience, and a little high for a hotel restaurant in small town SC (across the river from the big city). You expect a little price kick for a good hotel restaurant, but this one was a little more. If you are on a business expense account, it would be fine. We were staying at the hotel where the restaurant is in and checked in late. We decided to check out the Salt and Marrow. The decor and ambience was warm and modern. My favorite part being simply the glassware. We waited at the bar and I was delighted by their drink choices. It was hard to pick. I started with a cucumber margarita, I loved the freshness and it had spiciness. Then I had a glass of Malbec with dinner, very smooth. I carried out with me a Sazerac, which was quite a strong finish. They had great dinner rolls. We first ordered the lamb meatballs, which tasted amazing and came with a nice spicy aioli type sauce. It had an Indian flaire.I ordered the short rib with mashed potatoes and carrots. The rib was perfectly tender and pliable, the mashed potatoes were favorable and creamy, plus the carrots were cooked perfectly. My mother had the sirloin and potatoes, it was juicy and tasted great. We finished with roasted pineapple and whipped cream for dessert, Soo yummy and unique!!! My girlfriend and I went last night for dinner at 7:30 and were sat at what looked to be like an ikea bar table that was incredibly wobbly and this made us have to hunch awkwardly over because we could not use our arms for support. Our waiter did not seem very enthusiastic about taking our order (taking well over 15 minutes to get to the table and NEVER bringing out extra refills or bread) we ended up having to ask the guy filling up waters and pre bussing tables to get us bread. Food took over 1.5 hours to arrive and the sides were horrible and overall a very displeasing time. We will not be back. read more

Let's start with the easy part. The food wasn't as good as it was last time. The service from the BAR was decent. But when we came into the establishment we were met with disrespect, rudeness, and disgusted looks from 4 black female hostesses/servers because a child had on Nike Pro shorts. The way that we were treated was ignorant and discriminatory. We were told in a rude manner the dress code before a male manager stepped in and offered us a seat elsewhere. Once we were seated outside the restaurant entrance the 4 women proceeded to taunt the 13 YEAR OLD wearing Nike Pro shorts. When we were about to leave we were begged by the male manager to stay and were provided with an discounted meal. Overall we appreciated the bar service and the respectful male manager. I'm not sure i can even give one star. Went here against popular Yelp reviews upon my moms request. She made reservations. We walked up greeted by the manager "CAN I HELP YOU" not welcome to x, would you like to dine with us, not HOW can I help you. Uh yes, we had reservations? Next we order drinks, they're out of tequila, they're out of margarita mix, out of Bloody Mary mix, they're out of CUCUMBERS, jalapeños, oysters, clams!!!!!!!! Our meals are explainable by the photos. The wedge salad had 4 slivers of onions 3 half's of tomatoes and a pinch of bacon but a full load or Romain. The pork chops lacked flavor seriously and We're over cooked!! Now, the shrimp and grits - with all the horrible reviews shrimp and grits seems to be highly rated- IT WAS INEDIBLE- I have never sent back a dish in my life. They literally put a bowl of old bay in it. Sooo disgusting. Now the kicker- sorry We can't eat this- I'll get the manager- guy didn't even ask what was wrong what he could do to fix just walked away and told the server to comp it--- true indication they must get this a lot and don't care. Only one star because it wouldn't let me post review without it but it doesn't even deserve one star. Reservations were for 6:30 didn't get seated until after 7. We were somewhat a large party so we had two people waiting on us at both ends of the table. Our drink orders were immediately taken upon us sitting down. Drinks took 30mins to an hour to get back to us. Everybody ordered an alcohol beverage & let me tell you there was no alcohol. Appetizers were taken which took another 30mins to an hour to get back to us "kitchen backed up". Apps finally get to the table some were sent back because they were wrong & some we didn't even order. I'm not sure if one of our waiters was having a bad night but regardless the smart remarks we could hear as said waitress walked away was uncalled for. By this its 8 close to 9 and actual dinner was being brought out & once again several orders were wrong. We finally get what we thought was the "manager" turn out u to be "banquet manager" for place. Long story short don't eat here food is over priced, half of the items aren't on the menu & drinks you order for dinner are missing alcohol. But if you sit at the bar there is more than enough alcohol in drinks. It was a complete shit show to say the least. read more

We wanted to try the new restaurant in town. The service was very good and the wine was reasonably priced. I had the salmon and grits and it was fantastic. My husband had a steak which was very good. He also really liked the sides. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was the menu is somewhat limited. However, I would think they would expand it with time. read more

We went to an event there last night with about 20 people. It was freezing in there and we were told that they could not adjust the ac that is was done corporately. It was so cold that someone went and got a coat out of their car and others were walking outside to get warm. The food was good but it took about two hours to get everyone served. The food came out sporadically and so one person may get it and then the person next to them may not get food for 20 minutes. One person waited an hour and half for his food because the first they brought yo him was not even what he ordered. It took about another 45 minutes for them to get the checks straight and brought out and many were not right and had to be changed. This place has to do better to stay open. read more

This place was superb! We came here for an anniversary dinner on Saturday night and it was pretty busy as to be expected. My fiancé ordered the New York strip and said it was the best steak he ever had in his life! I am vegetarian so I got the cauliflower steak and it was delicious! Would definitely come again. Surprise dinner from my husband. When we arrived we were greeted promptly & shown our seats. He made reservations on open table. I'm on crutches so our waitress asked if she could take them & was so polite. Brooke. Well we had water & menus & she was very attentive. I ordered the bourbon cherry crush..it was so strong I told her & she got me a ginger cocktail which was absolutely delicious. I drank that & husband drank my bourbon. We ordered the clams & I asked for the sausage on the side.husband isn't eating meat. The clams were very yummy & hot fresh bread out the oven. We ordered the oysters as well...makes a big difference in taste adding the grilled lemon on top. I ordered the steak & potatoes & my husband had the fish & grits. I have never in my life had such tasty amazing grits. Hands down awesome. I will say the fingerling potatoes were ok but the stuffed parmesan chive was divine. Steak was perfectly cooked to my request of Med rare. Brooke was very attentive & helpful. Great service & good food. Afterwards we went to the rooftop bar for the sunset. I was hesitant about going to Salt & Marrow due to the negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Pork Tomahawk with whipped sweet potatoes and kale and it was absolutely phenomenal. My server, Erica, was very attentive and stopped by multiple times throughout my meal to ensure everything was to my liking. I'm new to this Yelp thing but here we go.... Location was great. Ambience and set up of the establishment was awesome. The service we received Saturday night was sub-par. Our waitress was not on top of her game so initially I wrote it off as her having a bad night-she's human that's cool. But the couple next door received smiles and greetings and I guess since we were there with our kids-who were so engulfed in the cell phones that they didn't make a peep we weren't the ideal patrons. We struck up better conversation with a nearby worker that was cleaning a table. Not to mention there was a group of 35 there that was obnoxiously loud and boisterous. About as large as a side salad, some wedges of iceburg,4 or 5 colorful cherry tomatoes cut in half, and about 2 crumbled pieces of bacon, plus a smattering of roquefort cheese. That was it. I came home hungry!! No crackers, no roll, pita, etc. ALL for the price of a much larger one, which I thought it would be. I will never go back. Waitress was awesome, however. We waited a long time! Tried it again for a friends birthday dinner and in 2.5 hours they asked us for 1 (some people had 2) drinks, all meat was over cooked (some even asked for it to be re cooked and it was still over cooked)- a $40 steak!?! No sorry, nothing taken off, the 'ceviche' is sashimi NOT ceviche, everything was terrible. On top of it all- the management is the worst. After we ordered food the waitress didn't make any effort to check on our table unless we flagged her down. At one point a member in our party had to take our water bottles over to the waitress to get her to refill them. After waiting 30 minutes for our food we asked the status and she indicated they make food to order so all food will take 10-15 minutes. Some of the food arrived after 50 minutes and was cold. The rest came 10-15 minutes later, also cold. There were errors such as bacon on top of a vegetarian's eggs, sausage missing from an order and an incorrect check. The waitress had an unfortunate attitude about everything, never apologized or offered to take anything off the bill (like the missing sausage) and the manager who did come by at one point never apologized or offered any concessions.
