Preface: Let me state a couple of facts before getting into my review, as I feel they are important factors. First and foremost, I trust my Yelp community. Whether they are lavishing a business with praise and accolades or critiquing its needed areas of improvement, they know their stuff. So to venture to a place with such hit-and-miss reviews is usually not my M.O., but as a fan of Anthony Bourdain I have learned to trust my gut (or in this case, my stomach) and try new places in the area. Also, I came at lunch and not on a game day (Greenjackets). This can make all the difference. First let me just state that the location is beautiful. The Riverfront area is not one to be missed (see previous review). Parking is limited, but it was not an issue on Friday at noon. It is metered, but at only $1 an hour you can't complain. It is a hotel restaurant, but if you have been to a few of the good ones you know they can be some of the best in town. The entrance for it is also clearly marked so you don't have to worry about accidentally walking in and seeing the front desk for check-in. At lunch they have the common area area open, but not the more private dining. Honestly, you won't notice. The decor, the quality of everything, and the natural light pouring in through the windows makes you want to take the rest of the afternoon off. Let me start out with all that was on point. The housemade potato chips with onion dip was delicious. The grilled bistro steak (with mashed potatoes and broccoli) came cooked to perfection and with a sauce so succulent I made sure everything on my plate touched it. Though I did not sample it, I will mention the Bourbon Cherry Crush looked divine. I did not have the room that day to try an Americano or dessert, but I will be returning. Though I am always one to promote and support new businesses, I do want to share a couple of points to consider. It seems the lunch team is understaffed. We were told our drinks took a while due to the bar not being set up yet. The person who showed us to our table was also our waitress and bartender. If it had been a busier day I would be concerned about a long wait. As a bourbon/whiskey drinker, I was disappointed that they were out of a small batch I initially ordered. And when I went for a safe choice (Woodford), it arrived full of ice. I will take the blame for not mentioning that I prefer it neat, but be mindful if you share my tastes. The team was top notch and our server even offered to check with the chef on the origin of their coffee beans (I like to know these things). In Augusta for a quick trip to see my best friends. They planned a girls night out for me with a new restaurant to take me to up their sleeve! Let me start by saying the service was phenomenal, our waiter Adrian H took good care of us. He was so down to earth , funny and attentive. The restaurant supervisor Lizzy came over also to introduce herself as she made her way around the restaurant to speak to each and everyone and she was very sweet , not in a rush to get to the next table but actually hung around our table for a few minutes to engage in conversation. **The drinks....strong , fruity and made you want another one. **My appetizer the BLT wedge salad all I can say is that was a WEDGE salad, beautifully made, presented and delicious. **Steak & potatoes = seasoned , cooked just how it was ask to be cooked and there was nothing left on the plate in let's say like 5 minutes **My barbecue quail I was excited to try it's been years since I had quail and what I experienced yesterday was tender, juicy and exquisite. I was licking the sauce off my fingers trying to savor the taste . **The clams in that bowl ...OH MY GOODNESS. Tasted like it came off somebody's grill and sent straight over to us . It was soooo good . Even the juice at the bottom bowl was so yummy all you needed was some bread to finish it up . **The basil lemon pound cake ....all I know is somebody's grandma made that pound cake . I don't know whose grandma but that pound cake was tasty. I will be honest and say that I could of done without the basil drip but it wasn't terrible or ruined the cake just my preference . The cake was just baked perfectly by itself. I would definitely come back to chew and really enjoyed my experience. They get 5/5 stars in my book . I will start this off with the positives of Salt + Marrow. It's in an absolutely beautiful area. The restaurant itself is located in the Crowne Plaza and it was being decorated for Christmas. They are offering heated lit domes for outdoor dining but you have to call in advance to book them which I did not know. I ordered the chicken and luckily the collards aren't cooked with pork so I could have them. They were the best thing I've ever had there. I would return just to order the collards. Our server was very sweet and she was training another server. The restaurant was not very busy but there were 2-3 holiday parties going on. On to the negatives: parking was tough to find. There is a lot going on in that small area. We had to walk a good bit to get into the restaurant but that's not Salt + Marrow's fault. When we got to the hotel, we sat at the bar to wait for reservations. There was a broom and a wreath on the bar which I felt should've been anywhere else. The bartender looked a bit stressed as there were a good amount of people in the lobby and she was the only one working. I ordered a mule and it was a very heavy pour. I sipped on it through the whole dinner. Our server let us know when we were all seated that they were out spinach dip. We ordered the wings and they were also really good. My husband wanted the ribeye but they were out of that as well. The server told us they were out of a few more things and we all readdressed the menu and ordered different things. My husband ended up ordering the NY strip but it did not come with sides. We were told the sides were $10 each. For the price of the ribeye meal, he ended up with a strip and 2 sides. I know the other server was still learning so we gave her grace, but we had 6 empty glasses piled in the corner of our table for most of the dinner. Our trained server let us know she was also barbacking. All in all, Salt + Marrow is good but things need to be worked out a bit. I feel they may be understaffed. read more

We were extremely excited to try this restaurant located in the Crowne Plaza near SRP park. The style and furnishings were modern with a southern charm. We loved the atmosphere of the Parlor Bar which is just outside of the restaurant. We arrived early for our reservation and decided to have a drink at the bar before dinner. Service was great and the price was typical to that of a hotel bar. The restaurant was busy but definitely wasn't packed. This, along with previous reviews, had me worried but we wanted to give it a chance and form our own opinion. Service was good but a little overbearing before ordering and almost non-existent after our entrees arrived. Appetizer: Roasted East Coast Oysters - the panko was soggy and only slightly "roasted". The only thing that made me continue eating them was the saving grace of roasted lemon, served on the side. Entrées: Pork Tomahawk - The pork was dry on the edges and borderline raw near the bone. It was served over a sweet potato purée which is one of the reasons I ordered the dish. It was cloyingly sweet. Comparable to a sweet potato pie. The sweetness from the purée and the sauce covering the pork chop ruined the dish. Prime NY Strip - The steak was listed at Market Price on the menu and ended up setting us back about $50. Which I will be happy to pay that or even more for a good steak however, this steak had little to no seasoning and was topped with a sweet sauce. The temperature however was perfect. The small end of a potato and spinach served with it were highly disappointing. After our meal we opted out of desert, and left disappointed and still hungry. My first thoughts of this space are how it reminds me of The Dewberry Hotel in Charleston. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, to me it's really exciting to have a new upscale restaurant in the Augusta area. For a Friday night it wasn't as busy as it could've been, and I expect that's because everyone in town hasn't discovered this new gem. I made a reservation on open table, but I suspect that we could've dined there without one. Our server Was very friendly and attentive. I felt like the wines by the glass were somewhat limited, but they also had a very nice and inventive cocktail list. They use an open wood-burning oven to cook the food. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so that you may see them at work, once this place really gets up and running it's going to be a really neat feature. They bring out rolls before dinner, and we also ordered the pork meatball appetizer. My husband didn't love the meatballs. We had two baby iceberg wedge salads, and they Presented beautifully. I had the pork tomahawk for dinner, with the sweet potatoes and broccoli. I thought my food was excellent, and there was nothing left on my plate at the end of the meal. The others in my party all had the steak and potatoes. They were substituting the sirloin for a filet. It Looked to me as though the steaks were cooked correctly, and I will say their fingerling potatoes looked very good. For dessert we had the chocolate cake with blueberries and ice cream. You order this 15 minutes ahead of time, as it's a molten lava cake. My husband wasn't blown away but I don't think he understands the concept of what it was! There was certainly nothing left. I'd like to go back, they have a separate bar menu that I'd like to try. We were in the restaurant almost 3 hours, really taking our time and enjoying the company of our friends. We may have been the last ones out of the restaurant, but the bar was still busy with a young crowd. Parking was pretty easy, though I anticipate during the summer or during baseball season this may not be the case, as the restaurant is located in the hotel directly across from SRP Park. I think that Salt Marrow kitchen maybe working out some kinks still, but I anticipate them being a very welcome addition to the Augusta restaurant scene. read more

I reserved Salt + Marrow for a party of 16 for my college graduation dinner. I had to reserve a table through the phone and not OpenTable, considering how large my party was. I made sure that my guest abided by the dress codes + rules online. However, whenever we were seated, the manager on shift walked to my elderly grandmother who was wearing a crochet hat to cover her head as it was cold and windy to leave because of an unspoken rule on hats. Not disclosed online, only in person which infuriated me and was not accommodating as I explained that the rules in person versus online is not the same. Also, it wasn't a baseball hat or anything of the sorts, a covering to keep her warm as she has short hair. I am incredibly displeased on how we were treated and it put a damper on my special day that I had planned for weeks prior. My grandmother was even gonna sit in the car for the duration of the dinner but of course i'm not letting her do so, so we left. Booked a table here for thanksgiving day. The menu sounded delish and we thought it would be a different experience to go out for thanksgiving. The space was ok it could have used a little cleaning up but we overlooked that since they probably had a lot of people in and out during the day. The waitress was nice. The food was served family style. First course was deviled eggs, pickles, pickled cauliflower, and some sliced meat. The eggs were really good. Next came a wedge salad which was also good. The main course was turkey with stuffing, prime rib with roasted root vegetables, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potatoes. The food looked great but everything was cold. So disappointed!!! I told the waitress that everything was cold but edible except for the macaroni (which was advertised as smoked Gouda but looked and tasted like cheddar). I asked for another one but was given more cold macaroni - I gave up. Dessert was apple pie tartlet, pound cake, and vanilla ice cream. The pound cake was good. Amelia took wonderful care of us and the entire staff was extremely attentive! Chef Tony prepared my wife's filet perfectly medium rare! This was our first time visiting this restaurant and I understand and empathize that they may be short staffed do to COVID-19. However, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I'll put the good news up front. The bartender Adrian was great he came out and got us our first round of drinks in a timely manner and honestly made us think we were going to have a good time. Literally nothing after that went well. 30 minutes after getting the drinks a waitress finally comes by to take our orders. We literally don't see her again for an additional 30 minutes. We ask for a second drink seeing how we don't have food yet still. I literally watched her go behind the bar make the drink and set it on a countertop. Leave it there for 20 minutes. Then finally bring it out on a tray with drinks for another table that had just been seated. Mind you we have been at this restaurant now for an hour and a half with no food and we can't even seem to get a drink without the ice having melted in it first. Within that hour and a half we've been checked on once. Moving along almost two hours in we've got food!! Woot woot, just kidding no. Y'all my blackened kangaroo was COLD! ICE COLD! $35 for food that came out not even luke warm, but seeing how it's impossible to talk to the waitress I didn't bother complaining about it. My boyfriend had the tomahawk steak and his food unlike mine was actually hot, but overcooked. This place was a straight garbage factory! First off, I will say that our server was wonderful, everything else was not. The ceviche was a nightmare, instead of lime juice, the fish is drenched in what tastes like a disgusting malt vinegar. The best part about it was the tiny serving size. Made us not feel so bad about throwing it away. The short rib was an uninspired wreck that basically tasted like pot-roast. Weak-sauce for a $25 plate. The steak and potatoes was ok (read: boring), but not good. I definitely could have found a much better way to blow a hundred bucks. This is a hotel restaurant attached to the Crown Plaza hotel. The setting is like every hotel restaurant you have ever been to. The food was not good. I went twice because I was staying at the hotel and didn't have a lot of options. This was a business trip. So it's very expensive for what you get. I ordered the chicken wings and the chicken sandwich. The wings looked like they had been under the hot lamp for a long time. The side was one carrot sliver and one celery sliver with ranch dressing. The next night I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries. It came with chips. The server said she would correct the order but the chips were mine. After 30 mins I received the fries which were wet and limp with grease. I could not eat them. Also the chicken sandwich was dry and not good. Then at the bar they had a hard time getting my order right. I would ask for Jack on the rocks and I got it 50% of the time. The other times I got Jack and Coke or Jack and water or Jack and seltzer. The hotel is nice. Stay at the hotel but do NOT go to this restaurant. The staff was friendly. read more

I've been to this location a few times but have never left a review until tonight. Tonight we attended a dinner party and the food was great. Everyone enjoyed their appetizers, entrees, and drinks. The menu has changed for the better and had a variety of different meat options. The bartender was great as well as our hostess. Although the food was great, my only issue was time. Our food arrived a little slow, but it was ok since there were a few parties and the lack of staff these days. My real issue was the confusion/dysfunction of our checks. I wish I was exaggerating, but it took over an hour to get our checks sorted. I am not sure what happened, but it was an absolute disaster. We were excited to try this place, it looked very promising. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment, especially for the price point. We ordered the southern style oysters and caramel pork belly to start. Oysters were pretty good, but not quite warm enough. Pork belly was good. When we got our entrees it really went downhill. I got the duck and my wife got the Cornish hen. Duck wasn't bad, but the outside was very burnt, like past charred and straight up burnt like if I were to leave a burger on the grill too long. The Cornish hen was so dry, we ran out of water trying to choke it down. Also, the mac and cheese side was clearly a portion from a large casserole that has then been reheated - it was dry, and the outside edges of the noodles were all hard almost like what happens when you reheat max and cheese in the microwave and cook it too long. All in all, we won't be coming back. The food just straight up bad. To note, they have some more exotic things on the menu like ostrich and kangaroo which I'm super glad I didn't try here after tasting their more basic dishes. The only real highlights were the quick seating for a Friday night (but I'm beginning to realize why they had availability) and also our server was very nice, prompt and checked up on us at the appropriate times. read more

This restaurant has been here for a few months now, but this is our first time trying it. It has a great ambiance and the outside sitting area was nice. The service is ok, not great, exceptional or anything, but wasn't slow either. Our waiter looked like he didn't really want to be there, but the other waiter (Adrian) seemed very pleasant and professional. The food is mediocre at best. Everything, without exception, was over salted by a lot! We had the clams for appetizer and you couldn't even taste the clams. The cauliflower steak was so extremely bad we had to send that back. The steak and potatoes were ok, the steak was properly cooked but again overly salty. The pork chop was ok but the kale that comes with it was inedible- it was like a mouthful of salt. We didn't order desserts- I am sure they probably have a great salted caramel! Ha! The prices are in the higher side, given the quality. They would have been fine, had the quality of food was better. Alright. I really wanted to trust the OT ratings over the Yelp ratings but.. I think Yelpers got this right. Post mortem: Apps - shoshito peppers and clams & sausage. Clams & sausage was the best dish of the night, we really enjoyed. Shoshito peppers were pretty meh, and the sauce added exactly nothing. Mains - Hubs wanted the tomahawk pork, they were out (at 6 pm on a Monday? So they just didn't prepare it for the day, apparently). Pushed him to order the special (20 oz ribeye for $60... It was just okay, underseasoned, definitely overpriced). The short rib was very good, enjoyed the veg & potatoes it came with as well. Drinks - we tried 4 different cocktails, 2 were good (Tennessee Mule and Spicy Cucumber Marg), one was okay (Boulevardier), and one was basically undrinkable ("Sazerac" - it was nottt a Sazerac.) Service note - it was slow (again, Monday in Augusta, given), our waiter didn't have many other tables to take care of. We saw the apps come out on the service counter a solid 5 minutes before he noticed and brought them over. Mains were a little more timely. Dessert was not offered, nor were any drinks after the first round (we had to ask for them...) TL;DR - if we return, it says more about the lack of choices in the CSRA than it does about the quality of the food. read more

We arrived on a Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm to see if we could get a walk in table and we're told we could sit in the bar that they served the Salt & Marrow menu. There was one bar tender for the whole bar. He told us he had only been working there. Here for 7 days and could not answer any questions about the menu but would check for us. He ran around for an hour and a half taking care of bar customers while the restaurant manager and her staff stood around the host stand looking at the stand and talking. We ordered raw oysters and our main meal. We waited 45 minutes for our main meal which was cold (I had shrimp & grits, husband had swordfish). Our raw oysters came out 15 minutes after our meal. Then the restaurant staff ordered drinks from the bartender. Interesting how they can order from him but they wouldn't run hot food for him while they stood around for an hour. The bartender took very good care of our drinks. Our drinks were delicious! And he bought our first round of drinks for the hassle, So that was the only positive besides the food had good taste, just cold... We will deter friends from coming here and will not return. read more

We had to wait for sides she never put in then tried to blame the kitchen. Our drinks were always empty. When she did come to the table she did refills with the wrong drink. We saw her on more than one occasion standing around talking. We saw the girl who refills the water more than our waitress. We had to ask other waitresses and waiters for help because we couldn't find our waitress. She had a constant attitude. It was obvious she did the bare minimum because the tip was already included. Between all of us, we tried the wedge salad, shrimp and grits (my favorite), fish and grits, pork tomahawk, and the short rib. Each dish was served beautifully and was full of flavor. For dessert, we had the cookie sundae and the lemon basil pound cake. They were both divine, so I'm not sure which I liked more! This review is solely for the dinner menu. We came here for dinner, but to be honest it's overpriced and quite frankly not good. Despite the reviews we decided to come anyway and try it out. The service was mediocre, our server finally came over after someone brought us water and the only thing she said was, "Do y'all want to order an appetizer." We decided to order the oysters, $27 a dozen for the panko crusted oysters. Abel Brown prices, so I am expecting Abel Brown type oysters. Well I was wrong. The oysters were stuck to the shell, no flavor, they were bitter, and the panko was burnt. I could continue on. We decided to end it at the oysters because we couldn't fathom wasting $100 on a meal that I'll be disappointed in. The lunch though, the lunch is GOOD! I think the lunch is at the Parlor Bar. It's definitely worth coming for lunch. The two stars are for lunch and the bar atmosphere, which is great! Dined here Saturday night (2/20) for our 40th anniversary. COVID has taken its toll on us both. It was so nice to eat out in a restaurant again. Good job by the staff of keeping up with COVID measures. Never felt like we were too close to any group. And it really helped to have the very high ceilings! Our server was Robert and I can't say enough good things about him. He was the best! Food here was very good. My wife remarked that her swordfish dinner was the best meal she had ever had. I had the beef fillet which was also very good. Better than just very good. Started off with the Romain wedge salad that worked very well. Two nice glasses of wine and our tab cam out to $100, which for a special dinner these days was a reasonable price. This was the second time I had sub-par service, which is the only reason I'm posting. We had reservations for 7:30 and were seated quickly. However we sat for 20 minutes without anyone taking even our drink orders. So we left. Had the restaurant been packed (it wasn't) or had it appeared to be short staffed (it wasn't), we would have understood. But there were lots of empty tables and sufficient wait staff. For the prices they are charging, the service should be excellent. read more

I enjoyed my dinner here while staying at the hotel. It had a vibrant atmosphere and was elegantly decorated. I enjoyed the Springer Mountain chicken which was flavorful. I also tried the ultimate bloody Mary which was a meal in itself! read more

Seems like a nice place.... hotel bar in the lobby and one on the roof. No bar in the restaurant. Only problem is I didn't want to sit at the hotel bar and it was 100 degrees outside so the roof bar was uninhabitable. I ordered the Tomahawk pork. Looked great and I ate a few bites until I realized it was seared.. and raw on the inside. When I asked the waitress she indicated that they cook it medium.... but if I needed more they could heat it some more. Nice, but It was literally seared on the edges and raw in the middle. When the reheated steak came out, the manager apologized and asked if I wanted more wine. Thinking that would be comped I ordered another glass. Got the bill, and charged for the wine. Seemed liked they were trying but serving raw pork is a no no. read more

I was very hesitant on coming here because of the previous reviews but we live in the area and have been eager to try it out. I figured that people only write reviews if they either have a really great experience or a terrible one. In this case the yelpers were right... We didn't even start off on a positive note to begin with. We had a reservation for the rooftop dinning and were given a difficult time. Finally we were sat at a comfortable spot on the roof and our drink order were taken. We then waited patiently for our drinks as I watched the bartender continuously disappear from the bar multiple times. When we finally got our drinks they were horrible! Both mine and my husbands drink were poorly made and mixed. (He had the mint gin fizz and I have the blackberry mojito.) Then we proceeded to order our appetizer and then after that our waitress was never to be seen again. After 40 minutes of waiting our patience was running short and we were getting hangry. I noticed she had three other tables and you could tell their patience was running dry as well. I then decided to go ahead and close out our tab and leave to go to another restaurant because it was getting late and we were hungry. And even that process was lengthy because no one knew where our waitress was and apparently she was the only one who could close out our tab. Not till I was walking out the door, an hour and half later did my quail appetizer come up. Im extremely disappointed in this restaurant I had high hopes for. If you want to serve me overly priced food (The steak is nearly $60) I expect to have a positive experience all together. I will not be coming back when there our much better quality restaurants in augusta. Hopefully if you do go, you wont get our waitress. Best of luck. read more
