Was in need of a deli near us. This was super close and super cute. It's a smaller space with HUGE personalized service. They accommodated our request and were sweet and made our two sandwich order in a flash. We ordered the #12 chicken pesto and the #11 Tuna on sourdough. This is a speciality sandwich only deli. They referred us to Whole Foods down the street for soup. They also serve empanadas. Parking was limited so I was dropped off. read more

The sandwiches are quite tasty. However, it takes a long time to get a sandwich. It usually takes between 20-30 minutes, today it took 43 minutes. I order online in advance and when I show up at the stated time, I still must wait longer along with everyone else standing around the deli. I walk past this market all the time, so decided to actually stop by for lunch on a Thursday around 2 PM. The shop is a bit bigger than it looks, and has some counter seating if you choose to eat there. They also have a really big drink and snack selection too They have a screen ordering system which was really nice. They have quite a few specialty sandwiches with creative names, but it's not obvious what's in each of them, so it helps to actually take a look at the menu behind the cashier before ordering! I selected a sandwich somewhat at random. I also noticed that they had 8 different types of samosas, with some fun stuffings, so decided to get a butter chicken samosa. There were quite a few people waiting, and it took several minutes but my food was soon out. The samosa was shockingly warm, a good temperature, and tasted pretty good! I would definitely go back just to try the other samosa flavors. Each was about $4. My sandwich was also warm, and it was delicious. They're also pretty big and seemed generous with filling. Now I would say for $13.00 it was small to size. New York, Chicago and some places in Dallas have bigger sandwiches for a better price. However, I am in the Northwest so I deal with what I get. One star, skip, do not bother. There are so many great sandwich places in this area. I only tried this because of the two 5-star reviews. This place is just a small deli-market. I walked in and first thing I noticed is there is barely any where to sit. It's a mini-market, so you're supposed to get your sandwich and leave. Second thing, I asked about the Tuna Sandwich - "is it a tuna salad sandwich", and had to ask twice. The person at the register did not understand me and asked for someone from the back. When I asked the question for the third time, they didn't understand me either and went on to say it was a tuna sandwich with lettuce, pickles, mayo, and do I want it hot or cold. From my experience the only reason to have a hot tuna sandwich is to melt the cheese, but what do I know (I love a good tuna salad sandwich). I ordered it anyways. I awkwardly stood in the middle of mini-mart waiting for it to be ready, staring at odd products in this very awkward space. About 5-8 mins later the sandwich was ready. For a canned Diet Coke and sandwich, and that experience of having to Tip right in front of the register, I was down $18+. Since there was no where to sit, literally only 3-4 people can comfortably sit at the few chairs they have, I left the store and ate on a bench outside closer to my office. I opened the sandwich and the tuna was a lighter shade of brown. I stupidly ate a few bites before wondering whether I was slowly poisoning myself. I threw away over half of the sandwich. The rest of the day, including right now 10 hours after eating it, my stomach has been doing turns and I've been on the verge of throwing up. Shame on this restaurant. You have a prime location on Westlake, a cute rustic sign calling yourselves a deli -- and you don't even have people inside who can understand a simple question about the sandwiches you're selling, and who gave me an obviously terribly old tuna salad mix on my sandwich. Salt & Pepper is that classic sandwich deli shop vibe where you're able to grab a beverage, potato chips, and snacks to go with the Sammie while dining in at the table against the window. They don't do too much to the sandwich and sometimes that's perfect for me. It's not too heavy and fills me up just enough during work lunch hours until I get home. Really surprised that this place isn't listed on Yelp unless it's super new or residents are hellbent on keeping it under the radar. I was at a conference in SLU looking for a quick bite when I walked past this deli and did a double take when I saw a few people walk out with big-ass sandwiches. I went in eventually and got their BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, & avocado) and let me tell you, they keep a sandwich making wizard in the back kitchen. This sandwich was stuffed to the brim with fresh lettuce, tomato, avocado, and bacon. The bread was pressed thin, crispy, and perfect. And it was wrapped so tight and cut straight down the middle. While waiting I looked at their store selection and they have a cute impressive selection of random delicious snacks. For a novelty junkie like me I can't wait to come back and buy a little of everything. The only complaint I had was the price of the drinks wasn't anywhere to be found, though the overall price of my sandwich, chips, and drink were pretty on par with SLU lunch prices. AVOID. I have a peanut and tree nut allergy and my boyfriend specifically asked the cashier if the butter paneer samosas contain any nuts. The cashier responded "no" and when asked again, she seemed annoyed and insisted there were no peanuts or tree nuts. When we got home and I ate the samosa, i immediately began to have an allergic reaction. We called and the manager picked up, upon initial ask he also insisted it has no nuts. When we pushed and said that we are having an allergic reaction, he went and checked the ingredients, and admitted there were cashews in it. This is a life threatening allergy and I have to now spend hundreds to go to the hospital, after spending over $30 at this deli for a meal I can't even eat. If this happened to someone with an even more severe allergy than me, they could be dead. Incredibly dangerous and careless. read more
