Potato Latkes (5/5): These latkes are thick boys and fried up so they're piping hot when they hit the table. Because of their size, you really get the contrast of the hard crunch on the outside with super fluffy potato inside. So good we immediately turned around and ordered more. Chocolate Babka (2/5): This was truly the only miss I've had here. Unfortunately, the babka just really dries out after it's been sliced, which is a shame because it's just gorgeous with generous swirls of chocolate inside. Reuben (5/5): I really thought their pastrami couldn't be beat, but the brisket is dare I say better? Just as tender and feels a bit less fatty, so it's a little more crushable. Tip: go for the seeded rye over the marbled rye; something about the marbled rye just falls apart a bit more with the juices of the meat, though it's still delicious! This place doesn't screw around. If you want a great, hearty, flavor-packed sandwich, this is one of the best places to throw your money. But, as others have pointed out, it's no cheap date: expect to pay over $20 for one of those mighty pastrami sandwiches. They do have some vegetarian choices, but mostly side dishes. The egg salad and grilled cheese are the only mains without meat I believe. I can't believe it took me so long to visit Dingfelder's! The Rachel hot pastrami was delicious with the cheese and sauerkraut on caraway rye. However we found the pastrami a little salty along with the side pickles. We read posts that this was the closest thing to katz on the westcoast and while we do agree..katz pastrami is just on another level. I went to Dingfelder's Delicatessan on Saturday, August 23, 2025, on the recommendation from a very good friend Paid $96.30 for three sandwiches that took over 30 minutes to make. Took then home to eat only to find out that the Pastrami was too fatty. I asked the gent working the cash register if his restaurant' sandwiches were comparable to Katz's Delicatessan in NYC. I've never been there but I sure do get a lot of reels from Katz's and there sandwiches look a whole lot better than what I had at Dingfelder's Delicatessan. Oh my god, had the best sandwich EVER at Dingfelder's. I was torn between the corned beef and the pastrami, then I realized I could get BOTH! It's a pricey sandwich but it's also a huge sandwich, in my opinion so worth it. Every single bite was so good. I can't wait to come back here and try more things! I also got a slice of their cheesecake which is your typical NYC cheesecake. It's also pretty huge so with both of those you've got yourself a meal! One note is that it's kind of hard to get a cup of water... if their coffee counter is open you can ask for water, but otherwise you'll need to ask someone working in the back.
