It's still the best ice cream in town. The frigid culinary pride of Portland! This location just doesn't do it for me in the same way that the other ones do. Parking is distinctly challenging. I'm really lucky if I can park within a block of the entrance. The line also seems to move very slowly most of the time. I usually give myself an extra buffer of time for this location, which also includes the typical time that I would spend in a line for this type of popular product. It has to be a special occasion for me to invest that much effort to indulge in quality ice cream. I do like that you can have unlimited samples and the staff is usually pretty friendly. I like that the flavors rotate seasonally and the bathroom is usually clean. Unfortunately, there's not much seating inside and there's also minimal options for sitting outside. This place is built well for people who will happen to be walking by on the sidewalk and feel like a scoop of ice cream while having no other immediate plans to follow... and also don't intend stick around to eat it. Maybe go grab a pint to go and call it compromise?
Salt & Straw is the OG PDX ice cream spot and you can never really go wrong with grabbing a sweet treat here. This location is on Alberta St where there is street parking all around the area. Currently, they are having some limited edition flavors from The Chocolatiers Series. Wifey and I ended up getting their Cake Batter Cookie Fudge and it was such a nice treat after our lunch. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. There is a reason why this spot has over 1,000+ positive reviews!
After dinner, we stopped by Salt & Straw which is originally from Portland and I ordered the Honey lavender for the win. It was delicious and if you love lavender this is the flavor for you! They carry some unique flavors and also seasonal ones so check out the menu first! I do love how they also give you a small bite-sized spoonful tasting. So just ask and they will let you try their ice cream first.
Salt and Straw is always an amazing place for ice cream! Hands down, my favorite place for ice cream. My go to is always the chocolate ooey gooey brownie, it's so good and not bitter at all. I love how they let you sample the ice cream before deciding.
First time to the NE Alberta location. What a quaint little location! Same great flavors but really small location compared to others.
I visited Salt & Straw with really high hopes after hearing so much about it. While I can tell it's high-quality ice cream with a lot of care put into it, the flavors just weren't my type. We tried the Honey Lavender, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, and Strawberry Honey Balsamic. All of them were interesting, but personally, I felt the flavors weren't as bold or satisfying as I expected.
Wow!!! Such a GEM! 10000% amazing! Best ice cream we've ever had! A must try, everyone was nice. I wish we had one of these in California!
The servers were so nice and let us try all the month's flavors. We all had vastly different tastes but all really liked this month's tomato gelato with olive brittle.
Finding a Salt and Straw nearby on our trip was exciting. I had to get my favorite, Honey Lavender, and my husband tried the Oishii Strawberry Pretzel Salad. The shop had a great vibe, really inviting and fun. Unfortunately, the pretzels in my husband's flavor were soggy, so I would skip that one if you don't like soggy things. The staff were super friendly and offered free samples, which is always helpful when I'm exploring new flavors. The line was a bit long, but totally worth the wait!
Salt & Straw absolutely blew me away! I got the Honey Lavender and Coffee flavors--WOW. The honey lavender was so smooth with just the right floral notes, not overpowering at all. And the coffee? Rich, bold, and totally addictive. Like the perfect iced latte but in creamy dreamy scoop form The vibe is chill, staff are super sweet, and they let you sample before choosing (love that). Plus, the ice cream is served in the cutest little cup--total Instagram moment! If you're in Portland, this spot is a must. 100% worth the stop. I'd come back just for that coffee scoop again

I always buy the same flavor (HONEY LAVENDER) and now experimenting more with sampling their UNIQUE flavors. And trust me, THEY ARE DIFFERENT, which makes it more fun when visiting a SALT AND STRAW because of their generosity of sampling! - Street parking, came on a Monday, so parking was okay. No lines, and we were able to snag a seat and enjoy their ice cream inside with the AC and people watch! - Wasn't so welcoming, maybe because it was a MONDAY... but that wasn't important, since I'm not there to talk to them GOODLUCK and enjoy!
Last Saturday, we were out enjoying the beautiful weather, passed by here - - and were surprised to see there was no line. Decided to pop in and check out if they had any vegan options - - YES!!! And I had choices :) No gluten free cones though but a cup works just fine for me. Delicious.
OMG! I am a chicololic but you have to try their Caramel peanut butter brittle fudge (or close to this name). It is to die for!!

Yes, given that rep the line was a little long around 4pm on a Saturday but it did move quickly. Also, their freshly made cones are the best! I'm so happy to have researched a bit before hand the places that I wanted to check out and this ice cream place was highly talked about. There is only one place back in Minnesota that I can think of that is unique in flavor like this spot but not to this level. First of all you walk in and smells so good! The waffle cones smell so sweet and vanilla e ( not a word) but you get me. The had combos like strawberries with balsamic glaze, blue cheese, and other amazing ones. I went with a honey lavender and wow was that combo very beautiful. My partner got one that had a peanut butter chocolate combo I believe. I'm not huge on peanut butter but he said it was the best he's had. We also learned that parking in the area can be tricky but you are better off maybe parking a couple blocks away and then walking over as you get to see all the awesome restaurants in the area. I so wished they did shipping to order some ice cream back at home. read more

I ordered a kid's cup of one of their seasonal flavors - The Great Candycopia. It was bourbon vanilla toffee ice cream filled with various bits of candy bars. Ice cream tasted freshly made. I will mention that this place is quite the wait! The line started about three stores down from the store and it took 42 minutes on a Friday night at 8pm to make it from that point to paying for ice cream. It didn't feel like that long, but we timed it to be sure. The store smelled great and had a really good music playlist. When we entered, 2000s pop was playing. Staff was super nice and we were able to try some samples before deciding on what we wanted. Samples were a decent size to taste too. Parking is street parking only. read more

This place is my go to for ice cream ! They have a new small collection of flavors every month and they always live up to the hype. Everyone is super friendly and the line can get long but it always moves fast . Ah the original Salt & Straw in the cute neighborhood and cool inside design and paintings! Around 4-5 pm is the best time for no line. Any time after 8 it will take 45 minutes! I got my fav which is salted caramel with waffle cone! Taste like heaven! read more
Same rating for Salt and Straw seriously!! Went out for some ice cream, and they have some new seasonal flavors for your taste buds. I tried the Baked Brie and Fig, wow! Delicious. I then sampled the Sour Cherry Pie, it's oh so good. I could have asked for a scoop of each but, no 1 flavor was perfect. I choose the Sour Cherry Pie in a waffle cup. So delicious with bits of pie mixed in. Go try before their gone!! read more

Is there coconut now in the honey lavender flavor? I usually really like salt & straw although very expensive. The texture is nice and flavors are good. I have been getting the honey lavender for years. Tonight it had a coconut flavor to it. I'm not sure if this is a new addition or a result of cross contamination through the scoops or the machine that makes it. Thank goodness I don't have a tree nut allergy but this is something that should be properly labeled. Service was as expected; getting customers in and out but not really being super engaging. There is always a long line but it goes somewhat fast. I wish there was better seating. I came with a big group and we couldn't sit on the wet benches outside. Some kids started smoking pot and it smelled horrible too. Overall, I would likely come back if I was invited again but I am very hesitant to get the honey lavender again. read more

This place is the best for different and tasty ice cream. All 5 of us made room for ice cream after a big lunch. It was great to taste some of the unique flavors. Kudos to them for giving us real spoons to sample(thanks for reducing the use of plastic on our environment!) Their flavors change which is a great way to make us come back for more! I'll be back! They're located across the waterfront. Parking is a challenge and there are only 2 benches to sit outside. Food: 5/5 - creamy and tasty ice cream Service: 5/5 - they had plenty of patience waiting to hear what flavors we chose. I couldn't decide which flavor for a scoop so the server was kind enough to let me choose 2 flavors. Ambiance: 5/5 - great vibe to the place Parking: 0/5 - a challenge finding parking in this area despite the 2 parking lots nearby. read more

I've always been a fan of salt & straw because of their unique flavors. Perfect for a hot summer day & after eating next door. Wanted something on the more tart side, so I went with a single scoop of the strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper. Tart it was indeed. I couldn't really taste the honey or pepper, but it was still enjoyable. Strawberry flavor tasted like real strawberry & balsamic wasn't too strong to where it overpowered everything. Service was quick & efficient as orders were taken right as you got to the start of the counter. read more
The following statement is true about every Salt & Straw location I've ever patronized: an eclectic mix of classic, cavalier and avant-garde ice cream flavors, some of which will have you doing a double-take of the menu, scratching your head, and uttering an audible, involuntary "wut?" or "...why?" I mean, for realsies: deviled egg custard and smoked black tea? Cinnamon and honey fried chicken? Pear and bleu cheese? Who are these madmen? Several of these flavors sound like something Willy Wonka would come up after smoking an alarming amount of weed and taking a trip through that creepy boat tunnel of his. Munchie mind. It's a dangerous thing. And yet, somehow, Salt and Straw always manages to stick the landing. Try a sample, and prove me wrong! Even if a particular flavor isn't your cup of tea, there's no arguing that whatever bananas flavor you just tasted (other than banana) wasn't anywhere near as bad as you imagined it would be. In fact, you probably kinda liked it, even a little! I'm *still* waiting for them to make tomato ice cream (or bring it back, in case they ever had it, and I missed it). When an ice cream parlor can make Thanksgiving dinner into a succulent sorbet, it's time to stop questioning their sanity: the Mad Hatter has invited you to his tea party, so put on your top hat and coattails, because *you're going*, and there's no going back!
