    Vegan Plantain Toffee with Habanero

Visited the Salt and Straw in Portland Oregon. Lots of unique flavors including 3 vegan options. Enjoyed the very unique vegan limited edition of plantain toffee with habanero peppers! It was delicious sweet and spicy! Worth the wait as the lines can get very long.

When I need a sweet fix I scream for ice cream. Then, hook up a fix of seasonal flavors at salt and Straw! Ah! Love that ice cream fix!

We loved this spot!! Not everyone will agree - one of my friends thought it was good not amazing but - I think this is the best ice cream I have ever had in my life! Mine was the relatively tame Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons and Double Fold Vanilla. Strong theme of interesting and tasty combinations of vibrant flavors, that come through in the ice cream. Real scoops, which are not overly huge. Free samples, check it out if you are near one - it's worth a stop.

Lots of unique flavors with super kind staff! Line moves fast and not outrageously priced Lots of vegan flavors available and you can try as many as you'd like!

Always a fun time trying new flavors. I'm loving the summer of Pies. June 2025 flavor list. The Gruyère and tomato tartin was surprisingly good. I really love the rhubarb crumble and lemon chess, but especially the wild foraged berry slab pie. I usually end up returning to my favorite Coffee and Love nuts when all else fails. I love this place

I love this place, good atmosphere, good people, fun people around, no hate. I love the ice cream there. It's so delish. And the service was awesome. I told him it was my birthday and they added whipped cream and sprinkles to my ice cream. They were very nice. Oh, and they're vegan as well for the people that have allergies to certain types of milks. They also will let you look at the ingredients to make sure that you're not allergic to any of that. They did it for my friend, and it was awesome. They take the time to listen to you. And make sure they can serve you.

Love love LOVE this Salt & Straw spot. It's always packed, but they move you through pretty quickly. The flavors are unique and the staff is super nice/helpful. Definitely a place you should check out if you are passing through the PDX area.

Cheers to a double scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone at Salt & Straw in the Nob Hill area of Portland.

Salt & Straw has had such an impact on the elevated ice cream food scene that when traveling through the Rose City one must make a visit at one of their signature locations while in town. While not their original location that enlivened a thousand tastebuds and has people scrambling in line waiting for their handcrafted wide-ranging flavors in cones and cups. Credit for Salt & Straw's national success goes to the Malek cousins, Kim and Tyler, who turned a food cart that was based in the Alberta Arts District of Portland to its own storefront in that same neighborhood to multiple locations across the country from shopping malls to theme park entertainment districts. What has not been compromised with this rapid expansion since their original opening are the seasonal flavors that create a unique combination of flavors that accentuate the way that Salt & Straw maxes out their ice cream's butterfat in order of their original texture. With my recent visit to Portland, a visit to their original location wasn't in the cards for me as that location is too far away from local transit, but their location within the Nob Hill area of the city was close enough to where I was staying that a short trip via the Portland Streetcar system was calling my name on a recent evening while I was staying there. I managed to get to this location of Salt & Straw with an hour to spare, and despite not being in a centrally located area by major hotels and well-known gathering places this location was filled with customers. Although it was really late at night and most all other businesses in the area were closed for the evening, it comes as no surprise that Salt & Straw is thriving until the doors close for the evening because who doesn't want a little sweet treat before the night is over. What I like about this location of Salt & Straw is that they have so much staff here that while you wait in line, their staff that is available to serve comes from behind the counter and is ready to offer you samples on small metal spoons that Salt & Straw is so well-known for. I also like that their Limited Edition Flavors represent seasonal flavors and are changed up on a constant almost monthly basis. So I sampled three flavors on this visit, their Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie, which was a combination of wild berry pie filling and bits of double-baked pie crust folded into salted vanilla ice cream; their Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie, which was pieces of lemon chess pie folded into creamy cultured frozen yogurt, sweetened with wildflower honey and topped with drizzled lemon curd; and I also tried their Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart, which was a savory option of gruyère cheese and tomato jam with the flakey pie crust mixed with a salt and pepper custard ice cream. Thinking that the Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart ice cream was a bit much even for my tastebuds, I opted to order a two scoop ice cream of their Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie (on top) and the Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie (on bottom) on their signature sugar large sugar waffle cones. They are nice enough to ask you what flavor you want on top versus bottom, but I didn't care. My total bill was $9.60 for the combination of two scoops and one large cone and that was actually reasonable considering the amount that I have paid in the past back home with recent ice cream visits. You pay at their counter holding your dripping cone, and you are free to eat in their counter-less scoop shops that does have indoor seating along the windowsills or outdoor seating with a few benches they have along the street which is where I chose to sit as my ice cream melted and melted away before I could truly take my time to enjoy it. If that is one criticism that I have of this location of Salt & Straw is that I think their ice cream could be in a more solid state as the melt really took too rapidly despite it not being that warm outside. Plus the fact that they really don't have amenable water stations for patrons to enjoy a sip while they lick does not make for the most all-around consumer friendly experience. I do love that no matter the location of Salt & Straw, they serve delightful rich ice cream that can't be beat by going anywhere else. Their continued success intrigued me in the sense that we don't know where their next locations will pop up, hopefully it's nearby and soon! From conquering Portland to next the nation to who knows the world!

Came in with some friends. They had patient waiting for the long line but me I did not. I just grabbed the pint of honey lavender flavor ice cream in their fridge then went straight to the cashier so I didnt have to wait in line. The ice cream was delicious and one of my favorite flavors, then 2nd would be blue cheese n pear flavor. The atmosphere was clean and the place smells like amazing vanilla scent because of the waffle cones they make there. One of my favorite ice cream places

"I'm your ice cream man Stop me when I'm passin' by See all my flavors are guaranteed to satisfy" (Van Halen) In case you've ever lied awake at night pondering how five pints of ice cream could possibly be shipped across the country, let me ease your mind and tell you how it's done. Salt & Straw did a phenomenal job by packing the pints into a cardboard box, with a cardboard collar around each pint to keep them from moving around. Then the cardboard and pints are put into a Styrofoam cooler. Then a thick slab of dry ice is wrapped in plastic and set on top of the ice creams. Then a Styrofoam top is placed on the cooler. Then the whole cooler is placed in a shipping carton. Then it arrives at your home with the ice cream as frozen as if it was chipped off an iceberg. We received five pints of some very cool flavors as a gift. The flavors were: Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip The Salty Donut Guava + Cheese Coffee & Love Nuts The Great Candycopia Jack o'Lantern Pumpkin Bread We were most intrigued by The Salty Donut Guava + Cheese pint, so we cracked that one open first. The ice cream was cream cheese based with chunks of glazed brioche donuts, guava puree, and puffed pastry streusel. It was sweet, different and excellent. Next up was the Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip- a spectacular concoction of coconut, mint oil and specks of organic dark chocolate. It was a very pale green, a welcome change from some of the eye-popping neon greens you sometimes see in this family of ice creams. It had a very mild mint taste, and the chocolate chips were more like ribbons of chocolate. In a weird way they reminded me of the feathery egg threads in egg drop soup. Here's the scoop on the flavors we haven't tried yet. Based on our first two pints., I have no doubt they will be excellent as well. Coffee & Love Nuts is an irresistible mix of Columbian roast coffee, cream, caramelized vanilla pecans, sea salt, and layered chocolate. The Great Candycopia is an embarrassment of Halloween Candy riches. Think crushed Kit Kats, Snickers, Reeses and Heath submerged in salted butterscotch ice cream. Jack O'Lantern Pumpkin Bread is an ice cream recreation of good old fashioned Pumpkin Bread, so we'll find spice, chunks of pumpkin bread, and cream cheese frosting all swirled together. Based on our two-pint sample of their products, we can easily see that Salt & Straw's ice cream is spectacular.

We love salt and straw! We stopped in to try their monthly seasonal rotation. I especially liked the rose and watermelon sorbet. The line was long, but moved quickly. While I am not vegan, I love the vegan options and often go for those flavors over the dairy options. Street parking is available only.

The flavors here always come through and I really look forward to the seasonal flavors but this time, I felt swindled. $5.75 for a kids scoop. Look at my picture. I wasn't expecting a lot as I wanted a small amount but for that price? That was a tiny amount.

Excellent customer service. Chatty and friendly. Very kind in letting you try the variety of flavors. Nice quick service !!

As someone who used to work in an ice cream shop, I have very high standards for what is served to the customer - the scoop sizes we received were noticeably inconsistent when compared to past visits & in my opinion, if a scoop doesn't at least appear to fill the cup, either smaller cups are needed or scoopers should be trained to not have their scoops be so compact. One of the scoops in the double mini we ordered was literally 1/3 the size of the other, cost more than the regular scoop but had less ice cream. The regular scoop was compressed into such a tight, dense ball, it was rolling around my cup like a marble on the drive home. We couldn't help but laugh when we looked in our cups because the portions we had just paid for were comical. For prices that are set at a premium, I want to feel like I'm getting my money's worth and don't like walking out of an establishment feeling ripped off.
