TartBerry is a hidden self-serve yogurt spot on SW 9th. The store is down a small flight of stairs (or ramp) below street level. There are no samples allowed and many signs notifying you of it. Grab a small, medium, or large cup and choose your flavors. The machines are labeled like they have three options, but they have two options and a swirl. The swirl has a custom name which might make you think it's a specific flavor but it's a combination. Without samples, my partner got a flavor with a coconut base which is not his preference. A table of toppings and a cooler of toppings are available. There are a lot of choices, and some do make you wonder when they were set out / if they should be covered. Of course you pay by weight so you may want to be selective. Our two small cups ended up being $20 (! - I guess we weren't selective enough). We sat to eat, and noticed a number of gnats flying around. The decor is quirky - upbeat, bright lime green, but a little chaotic and worn down. Overall I think soft serve yogurt is a fun activity, and makes for a unique custom dessert every time, but the biz could benefit from some changes and a decor refresh.

was craving a sweet treat after dinner and my friend wanted froyo and this was the only froyo place nearby. when I walked in I noticed the quirky bright interior and the no samples sign we went to get our flavors but I was disappointed by the lack of options. I opted for just the original tart and mango swirl. I appreciated the variety of toppings but they looked stale and like they had been sitting out for a while. the tart was tasted ok, but severely lacked any tartness. I got two cups and felt like they were pricey for what I was getting. my group and I all agreed that we would just go to menchies next time for froyo...

2/3/2025 - The post its and quotes of happy feelings were lovely. Also the cheerful décor.

Here's the thing... I did not have a bad time. I LOVE ice cold fro yo when it is ice cold outside. I had symphony tickets and discovered that these guys are open until 1030pm, even on Monday nights. It was a cold walk but not a long one as the Arlene Schnitzer is about two blocks away. I am glad I am not alone in craving soft serve when it's cold. I brought a brave vegan friend with me. From my perspective - I was nervous going in and relieved that they do have a ramp that is not horrific to get down. A lot of the older buildings in Portland can be hard on us with mobility challenges. I loved all the happy go lucky post it's and quotes everywhere plus the décor throughout. It was very welcoming and makes you want to sit down and read the fun messages. As I walked by the clerk I asked about samples and she stated that there are absolutely no samples. I then go to the area where the cups are and it says all over that exact thing. She did give me solid advice that if I want vanilla to chose the custard which tastes like a traditional vanilla versus the 'tart' which is very tart and she said people who want vanilla do not tend to like that. I got the vanilla custard, Oreo and the strawberry shortcake. I loved the first two but the strawberry shortcake was so gross and tasted like burnt plastic. I went to look at the toppings. Stale animal cookies were my only selection and not completely terrible but I can't sign off on any of the toppings. I get the impression the toppings are 'vintage'. The sliced bananas were a color I do not want a fresh banana to be and the strawberries were also looking like they had been out a day or four. My vegan friend tried the 3 vegan flavors they have and said the mango was gross. She said the other two were barely edible and her Oreos were VERY stale. How did they earn a 3? They had the sweetest girl running the show, the environment inside as I know this area can get pretty out of hand to where it shocks me anything can stay open after things I have seen myself. I appreciated being able to use a clean bathroom and I also love spots that stay open for us late folks till 1030pm.

A fun and friendly froyo spot with a variety of flavors and TONS of toppings. They also serve ice creams as well. We had such a good time as adults! Highly recommend for some sweet treats. On the pricier end but who doesn't deserve a treat every now and again

Seemed like a nice froyo option close to the South Parc blocks. There were a bunch of toppings and a decent number of yogurt flavors. However, there were flies sitting on the topping bar and no one was trying to do anything about it. The floors look a little too beaten up. Just the whole place doesn't seem clean and well-kept. Not going there again!

If you're the type of person who comes to a froyo spot for the toppings TartBerry is for you!! They have a limited amount of yogurt flavors but I cannot say the same for the toppings. The best most unique selection I have ever seen. I was a bit disappointed since most of the toppings I got were stale which took away from my creation. But other than that it was really good I would just stick to the non candy or gummy toppings. Overall, cute spot.

I'm from out of town (Phoenix, AZ) and it was my first time in Portland, Oregon. I already love frozen yogurt so I decided to make a quick stop here. The variety was great, the cleanliness, the options...it was there! Not to mention the cute aesthetic they have. I, myself, made sure to leave a lil note too! I got the smallest cup or size and it was extremely filling! If you're visiting downtown, I recommend you make a stop here! You won't regret it.

Very cute and small ice cream joint. Almost missed the entrance. Looks like a local favorite and lots of different unique flavors. Got myself the strawberry covered chocolate and raspberry. My bf got the dutch chocolate. So many toppings to choose from and service was super quick! Definitely recommend a drop in :)

    Decorations

TartBerry I love you Service is so sweet and the decorations always make me laugh :-) You all have the widest selection of yogurt toppings I've ever seen and everything tastes fresh! I also appreciate how many dairy free options there are, especially the POG and pineapple whips!

If I was a billionaire, I'd invest in this shop to open a second location by me in Maine. Small batch and homemade, these ice creams are luscious and delicious. They are not sickly sweet, and they don't need to be. They really let the flavors shine on their own. The thai iced tea is my favorite flavor, though the fresh banana is up there too. This trip already I have visited once IRL and later I ordered a shake from them for delivery to my hotel, which was great! No drop in quality there and they drew a cute little note. The service has always been amazing throughout the years. Got to meet THE Miss Oz herself one visit too! Scoops or in shake form, it's a must visit when we find ourselves back in PDX!

The cookies were disappointing, but not bad. Ice cream was on the better side of average, but is nothing groundbreaking. I definitely recommend stopping in for a fun experience if you're in the neighborhood.

Ok.... disappointments in order of appearance with the disclosure, up front that we were visiting them in their last 30 minutes open.... having no intention whatsoever to eat our treats there but also figuring we'd have time to try stuff, get stuff and be ok. First disappointment - we both really were looking forward to trying, and assuming we would be eating the flavor they've been promoting - peanut butter butterscotch. Sounds so good right? Well we wouldn't know, because both the gals behind the counter almost mocked us for even thinking that they would have it available. It was a weird flex... truly they didn't even have a marker for it or language saying they were out of it - they just said it was not available in a weird way. I asked permission to try a few flavors... and gal number 1 give me an enthusiastic yes , which I appreciated. I'm sorry but I always want to try so many things, realizing that with each try, most flavors are too much - or would be too much if I got an order of it. I try to only taste 2-3 but almost always end up ordering the one I don't try which is vanilla (yep, that is how I roll). I tried the boysenberry which was incredible but, too much. I then tried the mint chocolate and confirmed I still don't like theirs (I had forgot it very punchy mint, more like mouthwash than fro yo) but I always try it because I keep hoping they will change the recipe. Soooo... gal 1 went away leaving gal 2. It genuinely felt like we just got handed to the bouncer... I honestly felt afraid to try anything else because she immediately was very aggressive... like "What else" isn't a question but an order to GTFO. This intensified as my friend had questions because she's vegan, so making sure things are vegan and she was curious about getting a shake - more going for a blizzard situation. Gal 2 started lecturing her about flavors saying she was interested in too many (because M&Ms & vegan butterfingers apparently ate a ridiculous ask?). She was also saying it would be chunky - isn't that the point? My friend asked if she had had a shake there and was given a very stern NO. It was just a bit insane... like, I appreciate you are maybe wanting to close early but WOW. I said , I just want vanilla thank you... and I figured I would just order Oreos on top - again, simple. She then lectured me that they don't have that and was trying to add cookie dough... ummm... have you had an Oreo? That is a completely different flavor, texture and thing .... and no... I started asking if there was any fresh fruit or something and she seemed confused at the question... I walked almost to the register and saw marion berry compote. Yes, that's all please angry person... my friend took her time ordering while I practically ran out. I was just super uncomfortable. She had perfect eyebrows I really wanted to compliment her on but it has been a bit since I felt such strong GTFO vibes. I assume maybe she had a spicy customer before us earlier but eek. It's so true about every encounter. I'll definitely remember this one as being pretty unpleasant. My friend joked that gee, her shake was delicious even though it was apparently made with pure hate.
