I've been wanting to come try this gelato for a while now, however, it is in downtown, Portland, which is usually pretty discouraging for me since I have to find parking and then pay for parking. But it was different today. We had some extra minutes on my parking meter, so we walked a block down here to get some gelatos! Let me tell you, I am quite surprised on how cute and spacious this place was. I had imagined it to be a small shop for grab and go ice cream. To my surprise, there were plenty of tables and chairs available for you to just chill and hang out with your group of friends. Nice! The two flavors we ended up with were dulce de leche and salted chocolate (kid size - 2 flavors $5.50, regular size - 3 flavors $6.50). There were many other flavors that we tried such as the brownie and coffee, Mayan chocolate, salted vanilla, matcha, etc. They have rotating seasonal flavors as well, but I can't remember what they were. The gelato was very tasty and smooth. We liked it a lot and spent about 15 minutes in there hanging out. Service was good too; she was super patient with us while we took our time to decide what flavor we wanted and then we asked for a handful of samples before deciding. If we were around the area, we would consider coming back here. Parking is still very discouraging. A good place to stop by after a meal. ! I got off the streetcar, walked down the street, and glimpsed this gelato shop. Now, gelato wasn't on my agenda for the day, but I couldn't resist. So my wife and I walked in and were instantly delighted by the sight of gelato and fun decor. The service was amazing. After trying a majority of the flavors, we settled on two--basically a combo of brownie and caramel goodness. It was incredible. Some of the best gelato I've had in the US. I've loved Bonta Gelato since I came here for a Yelp Elite event last year. The flavors are unique and delicious, the service is excellent and there's always a friendly face to greet you, and it's just a cute little shop with lots of seating and good music. I mainly rate it a 4 star because the texture is more like a soft ice cream than gelato, and it doesn't quite make it to the level of my favorite gelato place in Portland on quality and flavor. I do, however, have a lot of frozen dessert in this city and I will not turn down a delicious cup of Bonta Gelato. read more

A small container actually holds a lot of volume; they really packed it in! There is a large, indoor, casual sitting area at Bonata, which I love at ice cream places. I came across this gelato shop through an online post stating that a famous Bend, OR, gelato establishment had opened a new Portland outpost. So while visiting Portland, I decided to check it out. It was worth the stop. They offer a good variety of flavors and the pricing is very reasonable. I tried their Lime Cream & Raspberry and Orange Blossom & Poppy Seed flavors. Both were unique in taste and had a good flavor profile. The lime cream was tart and the orange blossom was smooth and subtle in taste. Both were creamy. Really excited to see Bonta now in Portland! We had been numerous times out in Bend and finally got the chance to check out their new location. It's actually quite spacious inside and they've done a nice job designing everything. The gelato itself is great and they are generous with the portions which I appreciated. Mayan chocolate has a spicy aftertaste. The atmosphere is modern with clean lines, yet it still feels warm with mural art in the background. There's ample seating space. I was impressed with the broad range of Italian styles and American options, so anyone who loves cold treats will find something to love here. The waffle cones were soooo yummy, and I really enjoyed the pumpkin pie ice cream. Lemon poppyseed is a close second. The gelato is not watery, it isn't rich like dairy ice cream and they serve you great portions for the price you pay.
