    Kale and Quinoa Salad

Loved this place. Visiting from LA, and I wanted to get some good fish and chips. Thankfully Yelp didn't let me down. The spot had gorgeous decor, nice and open space, and a deck over looking the water. Outside there's only 2-3 tables by heaters, and we weren't at one, but our server brought us blankets. Service was great! Now on to the food. I loved the batter, the tartar sauce, of course the fish was made to perfection, and the fries were so good! I got a salad on the side which was well dressed with a house made salad dressing. The table wanted to share a pizza and I'm so glad we tried one. It was really flavorful and I loved the crust. Great service, great vibe, great food, I definitely recommend.

Had lunch here. It was so amazing. The ocean views are spectacular! Big windows on there sides! The food and the service was outstanding too. I didn't get one of their wood fired pizzas but several in our group did. That looked delish. I went for the burger. It was incredible. So many layers. All of them completely yummy. If you're in Halifax you need to spend some time here. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The place is beautiful too. Thanks to the team for a great lunch adventure!

Salt + Ash Beach House is a great restaurant by the Halifax waterfront - we were able to sit outside for lunch. We ordered the Fish & Chips ($28.50), Crab & Leek Chowder ($18.50), the Iceberg Wedge Salad ($18.50), and the Jalapeno Cornbread ($10). Our favorite was probably the Crab & Leek Chowder - it was different but super flavorful with lots of chunks of crab in it. Your could really taste the jalapenos in the cornbread, but it wasn't overpowering. The Iceberg Wedge Salad was disappointing - it was heavily coated with dressing, too much cheap cheese and too much processed bacon bits. The Fish + Chips came with a nicely sized piece of fried fish which was crispy on the outside; make sure to ask for malt vinegar to go with that! Overall we had a nice lunch outside at Salt + Ash!

My sister and I took a trip for our first time to Halifax and we went here our first night. It was a Friday around 730 pm and we were able to get a table outside with a beautiful view! Our waitress was so nice and she stopped to talk with us about local shops. We really liked our food, my burger was really good and the patties were nice and crispy. I would definitely recommend this place to others!

We had a lovely quick lunch on the patio. Fast friendly service was much appreciated. The food was delicious! I enjoyed the fish tacos, hubby had a fish sandwich and my 6 yr old had a pizza. Everyone was very happy and we would eat here again.

This spot had the best ambience! It has a great view of the water but honestly the layout and decor made me just want to keep my eyes inside instead of on the Harbour! The food was really great - I had the chili glazed pork belly and the kale quinoa salad. Will definitely return!

Every course was fantastic, great service from Sean and fantastic views. I enjoyed the ambiance and laid back ambiance. But the fresh ingredients and skillful preparation and presentation make it great date night or casual nite out. Can't wait to try happy hour or lunch menus

Charcoal veggies and beach house salad, great bargains at $6 each.

In the touristy waterfront district, Salt + Ash manages to attract a crowd of locals, and in particular, local white-collar professionals -- despite the "beach house" name, nobody is showing up in shorts and flip-flops. The name is nonetheless pretty apt, because it's right on the water and boasts a convivial atmosphere -- cheerful and quite loud, but in a pleasant way, with festive vibes that don't cross the line into drunken shouting or anything like that. The decor, like the patrons, is quite polished, and floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around most of the restaurant, affording impressive views from virtually every table. Those windows, btw, are practically equivalent to one-way mirrors -- from the outside, it's not apparent that Salt + Ash is actually open, even when the dining room is jam-packed. The menu leans toward hearty fare, such as chowder and deep-fried this and that, but also offers lighter bites, such as crudo and "charcoal veggies." There's plenty of seafood, and quite a few dishes are inflected with spicy elements usually associated with Mexico, the southwestern U.S. or Japan (e.g., jalapeno cornbread "elote" with queso fresco, tater tots with sour cream, salsa and avocado, and scallops with chili oil and cilantro). There's also plenty of pizza, which is ubiquitous around Nova Scotia, perhaps a legacy of Giovanni Caboto, better known as John Cabot. The pizza that you'll find around the province is often quite good, and Salt + Ash's pizza is no exception. We ordered the "maritime mushroom" pie, and it had a pretty exemplary crust (lightly charred, foldable but not floppy), plus a legitimately wide variety of fungi, including maitake, shitake and portabella. (The variety of cheeses, however, could be scaled back -- the Boursin-style cheese was a bit overpowering.) Fish and chips are also textbook -- one enormous fillet, a lively tartar sauce and a stack of battered-spud spears. I strongly recommend the "beach house salad," which is a big bowl of vibrant lettuces, pickled red onions and shaved beets. The aforementioned charcoal veggies are also excellent; they consist of various root vegetables cooked al dente and plated with style. The salad and the charcoal veggies are both steals at just $6CAD. And speaking of prices, they're extremely reasonable across the board, given the quality, the upscale vibe and the super-skillful service. You'll pay about as much for similar dishes at the boardwalk shacks just a few hundred yards away. So yeah, if you're strolling around the waterfront or working nearby and feeling hungry, Salt + Ash is among your very best bets.

My brother got the meatloaf which he stated was different...but delicious!

Came here after trying to get a table at the French not on the same block where no one even acknowledged us. So the service at this restaurant was a welcome surprise. Every one was very nice, the vibe in the restaurant was very relaxed, and the food came out in good time and was delicious!

My friend and I came here on a late Sunday night. The place was already thriving with their bingo night. The ambiance of the restaurant has a beach house vibe with modern architecture and fireplaces everywhere. They also have outdoor seating on a patio with fire pits as well with the view of the harbour. Happy hour happens twice a day every day and we happened to be in during happy hour as well. We ordered their pizza of the week which was their posh Hawaiian pizza and their nachos but with tater tots. The food was really good, and the service was great as well bringing smiles on everyone's faces. If you're in Halifax, I would definitely come back here on any night.

I went right after lunch, but still in time for happy hour. I had the Turkey sandwich, which is currently a special menu item but it was delicious! My waitress was very kind and made the perfect cocktail recommendation to pair with my meal. It was a 10/10 experience in a beautiful restaurant with a view!

The Long Version: My husband and I had dinner here with his sister and her family for her birthday celebration. The interior is very nice and they have a beautiful patio as well. The prices are on the higher end with main courses being mostly $30-$65, although they have a few in the $20+ range. First off, my water glass had something sticky on the rim that was very visible. I notified the server and to his credit he was apologetic and got me a new glass right away, but I feel it's something they should have noticed when setting the table. Both my husband and I had the Bouillabaisse ($42) and although the menu said it came with a sourdough roll, neither of ours did. Again when we notified the server, he was again apologetic and brought us our rolls on a plate. The Bouillabaisse was generally good, although the shrimp were overcooked and a bit rubbery. The clams and mussels were good. The half lobster was very salty, and was a small canner. The potatoes were nicely cooked and the tomato-based broth was flavourful. Others had the whole lobster, the steak frites and the Wagyu fried rice. They seemed to enjoy their meals. We also shared some oysters (I didn't have any though) and mussels. The mussels were good and there was only one that was unopened. I also had a cocktail, the What's Up, Dock? ($15). It had tequila, limoncello, carrot juice and black pepper. It was a bit unusual but I enjoyed it. Others shared a bottle of white wine and some also had beers. The birthday girl had the Figment of our Imagination mocktail and she said it was great. Service was courteous. Overall my opinion is that the restaurant is pretty, and they have a creative drinks menu that's well executed. Service was pleasant but details were missed (dirty glass and missing bread). Food was overall good, but room for improvement (overcooked shrimp and salty lobster). If this was a more casual eatery with lower prices I would have rated 4 stars, but I expected more from this restaurant since it presents itself as nicer than just a casual eatery. ving the Best for Last at Bicycle Thief…read more We saved Bicycle Thief for last, and it ended up being one of the best meals of our Halifax trip. We started with the flash-fried calamari, a great opener served with their sun-dried tomato pesto aioli. But little did I know the standout lobster dish of the trip was hiding in the appetizer section. Their lobster and corn chowder was incredible. Seriously, so, so good. Potatoes, Vidalia onions, and double-smoked bacon added great contrast to the sweet lobster. And you know it's good when you can see that beautiful red lobster oil floating on top. It really showed that they used the lobster shells and all those flavour-packed bits to build the stock. Absolutely delicious. Next came the spaghettini ai frutti di mare, loaded with huge jumbo shrimp, fresh scallops, and mussels in a sun-dried tomato pesto. The seafood was fresh and plentiful. The linguini all'aragosta did not disappoint either. San Marzano tomatoes, cream, and Parmigiano made for a rich and decadent sauce that worked beautifully with the lobster. We also had the crab ravioli, followed by yet another lobster dish, the lobster Thermidor. This was seriously indulgent, with wild mushrooms, Gruyère, and house-made black truffle spaghettini. Rich, savoury, and packed with flavour. After all that decadence, we needed something bright to finish. The crostata al bergamotto was perfect, with a vibrant bergamot citrus curd that cut through the richness and refreshed the palate. Great seafood, incredible pasta, creative flavours, and excellent execution. We definitely saved one of the best for last.

Lobster roll was fine, nothing to write home about but wouldn't order or recommend. However their crab ravioli was phenomenal, the lemon and cream sauce work perfectly. It was heavy from the cream but the citrus helped made it lighter. Service was friendly and they had patio and indoor seating.
