We were legitimately excited to check this place out and support a local small business, but…read moreunfortunately had a terrible experience from start to finish. In the end, we paid $60 for merchandise we ended up leaving behind due to the terrible interaction we had with the proprietor. When we first walked in, she was nowhere to be seen. We spent the first five minutes wandering around alone, looking at the products, until she appeared from the back. My friend asked her about her teas and was immediately met with an awkward and abrupt "I'm not a doctor and can't give medical advice." We weren't asking for advice on health conditions; we were asking for some information on the teas she was selling. After a few more awkward exchanges we bought two and left. Five minutes later, two blocks down the street in another store, the proprietor shows up - had tracked us down - to inform us that our two 12-year-old boys had sprayed a couple of the room sprays that hadn't been clearly marked as "testers" even though they were sitting in a row of about 8 other "tester" bottles. She demanded "accountability" and escorted us back to her store, forcing us to buy two of the room sprays that she said had been used. The kids had made an honest mistake, maybe sprayed one spritz by accident from a bottle that didn't have the tester sticker, and now she was delivering a lecture and coercing us into buying two $15 room sprays she said had been touched! So, wanting this whole uncomfortable affair to end, we had the kids apologize and bought the sprays. Half a block down the street, we decided we didn't want to carry any of her bad juju with us, took the bag of products back and left them on the counter. $60 worth of products, down the tube. It was my friend's birthday and this woman had ruined our afternoon. No one should expect to run a thriving small business when you provide obtuse and awkward responses to legitimate product questions and then proceed to hunt paying customers down on the street and demand payment for merchandise that was handled lightly by two CHILDREN. Bad energy, bad customer service. We paid $60 for nothing. We'll never go here again and will tell others not to bother either.

I had been to SD twice before and wanted to check out somewhere I hadn't been. Enter Blue Water - the reviews and pics looks great, and the weather called for seafood, so I decided to head here and check it out. This Blue Water is located on India St in Mission Hills, though they have another location in Ocean Beach. Parking can be a little tricky, as there is no parking lot they are on a main road close to a split in a residential area. The interior is pretty spacious - the fish market is towards the front, and the ordering counter is in the back. Seating is spread out between the main area where the market is, a side room, and outdoors in the front. Decor and aesthetics are casual - very seafood restaurant-esque with straightforward design. The foot traffic set up so you order first and then find a table before they serve your meal to you. The menu is extensive - they have a large selection of fish that can be prepared several ways. It's a little overwhelming to take in, but there was no pressure for us to order; if there's a line all the more time to explore. I ultimately decided to get their mini shrimp tacos - these were served on a corn tortilla and topped with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, white sauce, and cheddar cheese with a side of tomatillo sauce. The tacos were great - super fresh, they didn't skimp on the shrimp, and all the flavors and textures worked really well together. I also ordered a cup of NE clam chowder which was good - not the best one I've had but for being in Southern California it held its own. Service was good - I'm seeing reviews of long lines but I think I came at the right time; there are barely a line to order and my meal was served shortly after that. Overall, Blue Water is a yes - I had a great experience here and wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in SD.

Plenty of seating and excellent service. We love their fish tacos, the nachos, their sandwiches, the fried calamari. Taste is always on point. I saw that Lia's was going to be parked outside a coffee shop I love so I was excited for lumpia and my caffeine fix in one go. The truck was supposed to open at 11 but when we arrived at noon, they were just opening up. Obviously not ideal that they were an hour late but that meant we were 4th in line. We ordered the pork sisig and adobo lumpia and were told that it would be 20-25 minutes. Totally get that they're hand-rolled to order and that it's only one person. But if we're the 4th order, then you should have a decent idea of how long it's going to take you to prep and serve to set expectations accordingly. Over an hour later we got our food which was great - crispy and well filled. The garlic sauce was nice and punchy. The adobo was a little bland and didn't make a lot of sense with the sweet chili sauce. I think a traditional vinegar, garlic, and pepper dip would have been more true to the OG flavor. I'd rather be told it'll be an hour and then have it ready sooner if that manages to happen, but over-promising on the wait time is just a bummer. I'm not sure if I'd try Lia's again.

If he isn't the owner, he treats everyone like the owner and makes sure everyone is happy and comfortable. He was very entertaining. We asked what he recommended, and in a perfect deadpan: "Another restaurant." Followed by a wonderful laugh. He made some excellent recommendations, and we ordered our drinks and soon we were treated to a basket of amazing bread with a wonderful spread that was just amazing. We shared an appetizer which was amazing, something with fig, pear, and burrata cheese on a thin toast. It was on a separate menu, and it was amazing. We each had a pasta dish, that was both beautiful to look at and amazing to taste. Perfectly seasoned. We used the bread to clean our plates of all the sauce as it was too good to waste. Mine was the Bottoni - Prosciutto & potato filling / parmesan sauce / green peas / prosciutto. Amazing. My wife had the Mezzaluna - Pear ravioli / gorgonzola & walnut sauce. She cleaned her plate as well. She loved it. We shared a dessert of ricotta and habanero, and interesting combination, that was delicious. Every person we encountered was friendly and made out dinner an amazing experience. Make a reservation. It's worth the trouble.

As a party of two, we were surprised to be seated at a very small table near the entrance to the outdoor dining area and directly beside a family with young children, despite there being plenty of open seating elsewhere in the restaurant. The table itself was barely large enough to accommodate our water glasses, a glass of wine, a beer, bread basket, and bread plates. Space quickly became an issue throughout the meal. When our shared tomahawk ribeye arrived, there would have been nowhere to place it had we not already finished our fried zucchini appetizer and bread. Fortunately, the food more than made up for the seating disappointment. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the tomahawk ribeye was excellent. Our only negatives were the table assignment and the challenge of finding street parking on a Sunday in Barrio Logan. In hindsight, we probably should have taken advantage of the valet parking option ($10 plus tip). We would definitely return for the food, but next time we'd likely request patio seating and hope for a more spacious table and a quieter location within the restaurant.
