The staff will take your order and assign you a table, so do not grab a table without their approval. The seafood all taste fresh. We love the halibut plate with lemon garlic butter. For the fish and chips, the red snapper with panko crust is our family favorite over the beer battered. Tip: we went at 2:30p thinking it is after the lunch rush, but the line was out the door on Sunday. We will stick to 15mins before they open. read more

I picked my folks up from the airport after their trip to Alaska and my mom was hangry because she had not eaten since breakfast. I asked her what she wanted and she said, "seafood", so I immediately thought of Blue Water, and we drove right over. We parked at a metered spot nearby & walked in at 5pm. Do note that there is no dedicated parking for Blue Water, so at busy times it may be tricky to find a spot, but we had no trouble today. In the main dining ordering area & on the side patio, there were a few tables that were occupied, but there was no ordering line. All of us wanted shrimp today apparently, so my dad and I both got a shrimp taco with lemon garlic butter & my hungry mom got the shrimp platter also with lemon garlic butter. The platter came with 8 shrimp, jasmine rice, and a lovely, fresh garden salad. The server who took our order and brought it out to us was very helpful & nice. They have a ton of fresh seafood on offer though so if shrimp is not your thing, there will likely be another delightful offering from the sea that will suit your fancy. We sat in the side patio area and it was very pleasant. We enjoyed our experience this evening very much! The tacos were big and had more than 5 shrimp in them, plus cabbage, pico, cheddar cheese & white sauce. One taco was pretty decently sized. If I'd been hungrier, two tacos would've been perfect, but today, I was happy with one taco. Yum! Mom enjoyed her platter. It was beautifully prepared. Located on India street near Washington Street, this gem of a restaurant has been a local favorite for years. There's only street parking nearby so it can be tricky to find parking depending on the time and day. There's plenty of outside and inside seating and you can find a seat after placing your order at the counter. Ambience reminds me of a small fish market. The fish is super fresh, servers friendly (even under pressure), and they have the best waffle fries in town. The interior is small and parking is tough (metered street spots only)--there is always a long line to order and the place is usually packed, but it's all worth the wait--every time. I was spending the day in San Diego, but was heading back up to OC relatively early so I decided to grab a late lunch in lieu of dinner. I had been to SD twice before and wanted to check out somewhere I hadn't been. Enter Blue Water - the reviews and pics looks great, and the weather called for seafood, so I decided to head here and check it out. This Blue Water is located on India St in Mission Hills, though they have another location in Ocean Beach. Parking can be a little tricky, as there is no parking lot they are on a main road close to a split in a residential area. The interior is pretty spacious - the fish market is towards the front, and the ordering counter is in the back. Seating is spread out between the main area where the market is, a side room, and outdoors in the front. Decor and aesthetics are casual - very seafood restaurant-esque with straightforward design. The foot traffic set up so you order first and then find a table before they serve your meal to you. The menu is extensive - they have a large selection of fish that can be prepared several ways. It's a little overwhelming to take in, but there was no pressure for us to order; if there's a line all the more time to explore. I ultimately decided to get their mini shrimp tacos - these were served on a corn tortilla and topped with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, white sauce, and cheddar cheese with a side of tomatillo sauce. The tacos were great - super fresh, they didn't skimp on the shrimp, and all the flavors and textures worked really well together. I also ordered a cup of NE clam chowder which was good - not the best one I've had but for being in Southern California it held its own. Service was good - I'm seeing reviews of long lines but I think I came at the right time; there are barely a line to order and my meal was served shortly after that. Bluewater has multiple locations in San Diego. We ordered takeout from the airport location two days in a row. The restaurant seems very popular as there's a line every time we are they on weekdays. Takeout only takes 20-30 minutes. We tried a bunch of items and I must say my favorite is their seafood combo salad which come with crab, smoked salmon and shrimp. I didn't even know about this restaurant/market - Blue Water - and was brought here by my friends who reside in this metro area. Since I tend to always ask for Italian or Greek food, I felt it was only right for me to acquiesce to what they wanted to eat that night. Blue Water sits about halfway between Old Town and Little Italy on the side of I-5 opposite from the international airport. There are other restaurants clustered in these few blocks that are also popular. If you are willing to walk a few blocks, you can take the trolley here. One orders at the counter and the food is then brought out to you via a placard with a number you put on your table. The service at Blue Water was unremarkable, but, since there was a constant line, you can't expect them to fawn over you. The prices vary, but, for the more "exclusive" slabs of fish, they run a little on the higher side. The interior has woodsy and somewhat seaside nautical decor. It might also take a little bit of work to find a table owing to its popularity. I will eat seafood, and like some types of seafood very much, but I'd say I don't care for more than half of the seafood out there. Here, they feature many types of seafood, all of which are fresh and you can peruse all the glass cases displaying it. Coming from the kitchen, there are some themed and nuanced presentations of it. I didn't need an entire fish market. I just order pieces of fish that can be presented like a piece of steak and, hopefully, with as little cartilage as possible. Similarly, I also like some smaller fish made to look that way, such as trout. I'm not a big fan of shellfish and don't eat clams, mussels, calamari, and others, but do like shrimp and scallops. They seem to put together some nice platters with scallops. I will also eat lobster, but have probably done so less than what one can count on two hands. If someone wants to treat me to the latter, I'm in. The three platters delivered to the table were enjoyed with my friends hosting me here enjoying the food more than I did. To keep things simple, I ordered a trio of fish tacos. They were fairly good. My friends liked their dishes more than I did. I typically wonder if I'm going astray when I'm not giving a business a rating that's in line with the herd. Three stars does indeed mean that a place is fine and Blue Water is fine. I might be doing this because of the service, the pricing of some items such that you wouldn't want to add much on, and the overall appeal of my selected dish. Parking is a hassle though, we had to park two blocks away so get there early if you want to park closer. I have passed by this Blue Water location in the Middletown neighborhood next to the highway numerous times before stopping by recently for dinner. The parking spaces in the adjacent lot seemed to be all dedicated to the neighboring businesses so I found a curbside spot along India St. A large parklet in front of the suite had several tables set up for al fresco dining, but it was empty during my visit. Everyone elected to sit inside the main dining room or in the covered courtyard next to it. There were a couple of refrigerated glass cases to the left when you walked in. It was the market side of the business with lots of fresh seafood on display. I didn't see any customers make purchases in that area as all of us decided to line up to order food/drink from the service counter. A two-sided menu sheet listed plenty of choices. Creating your own grilled fish plate was the featured entry. Sandwiches, salads, tacos, soups, sashimi, seafood cocktails, appetizers, and specials (entrees) were the other categories. I picked a cup of the Homemade Hearty Seafood Soup and the Classic Cioppino for my meal. After paying at the register, a numbered sign was given to me which I took to a table in the courtyard. Within 15 minutes, both items were delivered by a worker. The soup was a tomato-based broth with assorted seafood and vegetables. I believe some type of white fish was the main protein of which there were several chunks in the cup. It was warm and hearty as described. The cashier told me the kitchen was running low on scallops. They would supplement the cioppino with additional clams and mussels in place of the scallops. Shrimp and red snapper were the other components in the bowl of marinara sauce. Three pieces of toasted sourdough came with the order. There were at least a dozen mussels and nearly as many clams. I did notice a few scallops in the mix along with about four pieces each of shrimp and red snapper. For $30, it was a fair price for cioppino given the amount of seafood. I have eaten versions that cost 20 percent more with 20 percent fewer ingredients. read more

After our plane landed in San Diego, even before taking my phone off airplane mode, I had a hankering for seafood! Luckily, I found an old bookmark for Blue Water located just on the other side of the highway from the rent-a-car garage and even got a parking spot right in front of the restaurant! I recognized the blue awnings, the wall mounted Mahi Mahi & Yellowfin Tuna and the fresh fish in the refrigerated case and realized that we had been here back in 2011 (pre-Yelp Elite), when we came to SD for Comic-Con! We queued up to order our food and the nice server managing the dining room directed us to a table out in the patio area. When your food is ready, the server homes in on your table number stand to deliver the goods. We started by sharing a hearty bowl of thick New England Clam Chowder and the taste brought me 2500 miles back to New England with chunks of clams & potatoes. The seared Black Pepper & Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna was a great tasty appetizer, but could have been an entree because it came with a nice bowl of rice. We also had an assorted trio of seafood tacos, which were sizable enough for the wife & I to share, with a Beer Battered Cod and another with Fried Scallops. The third Scallop & Shrimp Track Taco was big enough to come on its own plate, all dressed up in crema, slaw, onions & avocado. I was jealous of the table next to us because they had 2 gigantic bowls of mussels and the couple were unabashedly slurping up the juicy mollusks with wine & tomato sauce from the shells. We accidentally ordered way too much food: 5 codfish tacos, mussels and clams, a dozen oysters, the New England clam chowder bowl, medium shrimp cocktail, calamari, garlic bread, and 3 pacificos - came out to about $150 in total. Pretty much everything came out fantastic. The slaw on the tacos was delish, oysters and cocktail were fresh, and the chowder was nice and hearty. The only thing that could've been different was the mussels and clams, as the broth was a little lacking in flavor, but was fixed with a little more lemon juice and some soy sauce. Service is terrible. We have a baby and asked for a high chair, which was provided. But after I settled the baby and everything away, they asked us to move because we hadn't ordered, even though my sister was nearly halfway through the line, and there were multiple empty tables. The worst part is, it wasn't even polite when they asked us. All the employees were giving us attitude for something they didn't tell us when we arrived, nor when they gave us the high chair. They want all four of us to stand in line instead of sitting at the empty tables. They seriously need training on customer service, at least to show empathy, sincerity and apologize to customers. Only limited street parking. Earlier this week, after picking up some tacos from El Indio for Fendi I decided to walked over and check out Blue Water. I saw several dishes pass by mostly fish tacos and fish and chips, so on a whim, that's what I ordered; Fish and Chip which is the signature dish which is fresh as gets high turnover. The cashier was busy multitasking, delivering food to diners and chatting with the kitchen staff, meanwhile the line to order behind me grew longer. This older female cashier finally realized the long line of customers and took my order immediately, would have been nice if she was cordial... I paid and was given a numbered post and my food would be brought to me. I sat outside the umbrella shaded patio, on the wooden benches. The outdoor area was kept tidy and clean by the staff. Shortly thereafter my plate was presented and it looked appealing in all its fried glory. I grew to love fish and chips especially after visiting London a few times and having their version of fish and chips with mushy peas and malt vinegar which is how most British pubs serves it was really 'Bloody Good,' as the Brit's would say lol Here, no mushy peas, but there's malt vinegar on the table if that's your preference. My plate had three sizable fried cod, criss cross cut fries, a small cup of a dill tasting white sauce and cole slaw, which I would order a larger bowl of next time. The fish tasted as though it had been marinated in brine with vinegar so the addition of malt vinegar wasn't necessary unless you wanted more vinegar taste. Everything was scrumptious and more than I can eat, I ended up boxing it taking it togo. The staff servers of younger ladies were super nice and helpful. I chatted with one a little and told her it was my first time visit. I usually have fish and chips at Mitch's or Ketch in Point Loma with a view of the marina. Because this restaurant doesn't have a view of the marina or any body of water, I wasn't compelled to visit. But if I'm going to visit the other restaurants nearby I will come here now, knowing the food is good. I've had Blue Water on my list to try in SD for years and I finally got the chance to check them out! So glad I finally made it in. The line here can get pretty long, but what I appreciate that they will find a table for you when you are ordering at the front. No need to have people in your group save a table. I ordered a halibut taco, fried scallop taco and some clam chowder. Everything was delicious and super fresh! The tacos are big so 1-2 is plenty for a meal. Parking can be a bit tricky but with enough effort you should be able to find a street spot. Can't wait to come back! read more

This little seafood spot has been a favorite of my family for over 20 years. The seafood is always fresh and delicious. I really enjoy going here because it caters to the whole family's dietary needs. There are salads, sushi, sandwiches, plates. You choose how you want it cooked. I recently went back for their fish tacos and calamari tacos. I only have a photo of the fish taco- my son took my other taco before I could snap a picture. The store also has a fresh seafood counter for you to purchase, take home and make it yourself. The service is great. This is a walk up and order, take your number kind of place. Very casual. There is seating inside, on en enclosed patio, or after Covid a patio in front of the store was added. They do ask for only service animals on the patio. There is typically a line out the door, so if you know what you want order ahead. You can still eat there. Our family will continue to come back for many year. read more

Visiting the area. My sister in law had been wanting to try this place for some time. Parking is tricky. If you're lucky there is free street parking. Don't park in the small lot by the restaurant or you could get towed. Seating outside on the patio as your walk in. You order first before getting your seat. There is a counter to purchase fresh sea food or you get in line to put in a order. Since it was our first time we had a few questions. The woman behind the counter was quick and helpful. We decided to get the daily specials in taco form. I got the fresh Loch etive steelhead taco and the beer battered scallops taco. The Tacos come topped with cabbage, tomato, cheese on flour tortilla. They were bigger than street tacos. The flavor of the steelhead was really good. You get to pick the flavor of the fish. The beer batter scallops hit the spot. My sister in law got the grilled Spanish octopus taco, the last grouper taco and a beer batter scallops taco. You're given a number and the food came out pretty quick. They have heaters on the patio and deck if you want. Otherwise the seating is limited inside. 100% would be back to try more. Some of the plates that came out while we were there were amazing looking. We both left full and happy. read more
