We made reviews about this restaurant two years ago which we haven't been there till two weeks ago thinking they may have been better but still same fish was overcooked and rice dry like throw in microwave and after three bites of fish and rice I got sick, maybe not from foods but lost my appetite and they took $ off ticket but server was good and nice and we tipped her good. My waitress was McKenna friendly and efficient. I got the grilled oysters a++ sold dish and the captain's platter fried seafood b-. The grouper was massively over fried... think fish jerky. I asked for a replacement and it was provided. Happy ending ? No, when I arrived home and checked my receipt I realized I was charged $4 for the replacement. What a nice place to eat dinner along the A1A in St. Augustine! Suggested by my son and his girlfriend, we had an amazing dinner together here and enjoyed epically great service! A little after we were seated we were also treated to some live music being played on the outside lower patio area. The location is just blocks from the beach and walking distance from the Hilton Embassy Suites I stayed at. I ended up coming back two more times because of the convenience and great service & food. Fantastic service and ambience!!! Where else can you get great food, listen to live music, and watch volleyball games across the street? The ambiance is nice and cozy, I like the decor throughout the whole restaurant. We picked Salt Life because it's a pet friendly restaurant. We had our dog with us, so we sat at the patio on the ground floor. Surprise to see they have an elevator to go to the second floor! I had Hawaiian shrimp bowl, the rice was really hot, however, it's too salty. They put too much soy sauce in it, I can't hardly eat it. Hubby had the rolls, he liked it. Our waitress was attentive, she checked on us frequently. She brought a bowl of water for our dog right away without asking. There was a live performance on a Monday night surprisingly. We were quoted 50 mins. and it was actually 40 mins. As we waited outside I could smell the fried fish cooking and knew I wanted exactly that. Our waitress Marisa was a rockstar for a server. We chose to be seated outside but it started raining pretty good between her bringing our drinks and appetizers. When she came out with our apps, we had retreated inside and asked to be seated inside and had been told 20 mins. Marisa carried our apps around and told the greeters where a table was available for us and got us seated. She checked on us often and was took very good care of us. This spot is not on the beach...its across the street from the Embassy Suites however you do have a view of the ocean from a few of the seats on the rooftop bar. My family & I have been to this location of Salt Life Food Shack MANY times (and will continue to come back)! The greeters/hostesses are always polite & nice! The food is always a level above the rest (temperature, seasoning, portion size, etc). There is always some kind of live music happening on the patio (on the weekends - not certain about the weekdays). Hint: Order the a few oyster shooters before dinner! She wasn't a fan of the balsamic drizzle (too much) and the tuna texture was pureed vs solid steak. Sis ordered a Blue Beach cocktail and the Chicken Tenders. Even though the tender looked extra brown/ over fried, it was still juicy. I ordered a Black Cherry High Noon and Shrimp/Chorizo Nachos. Should have gotten the tacos! The chips were not salty enough. The cheese was sparse. The Pico was fine. The cilantro lime drizzle was too sweet. After 10 mins, it was cold and no longer good. However, the bar staff was very attentive. The ambiance and music vibe was on point. We took a peek upstairs and it's cool up there as well. Loved the table top fire pit and lounging couches. Party of 2 stopped in for lunch on a beautiful afternoon. We sat outside at a high top and was served by Mason, who was on his game today! The service provided was excellent. We started with some fresh Guacamole, which was delicious . I ordered a poke tuna taco and a fried Grouper taco. I was excited to try the calamari, but disappointed to find out it was only half an order of calamari and half an order of hot, jalapeño peppers that were not edible for my pallet. The menu was very nice and has a lot of dishes for sushi, pokebowls and fish taco types. I had the crunchy roll sushi and the spicy tuna sushi. The crunchy roll was pretty good and a very appealing in visual presentation. On the other hand the spicy tuna which should be easy for almost any restaurant to do had a kind of odd flavor to it. I'm not sure why but the the fish either wasn't very fresh or the spices weren't what I would normally expect. Overall I would come back just from the experience but I would hope for a better dish. My son invited us to this beautiful restaurant. I always wanted to come here. It is indeed very well located, from the second floor you have a view of the pier. Check my PICTs. Food was great, menu have a variety of seafood options to choose from. The second floor tables have the bar stools style and the picnic tables, we got the corner with the ocean view, I really enjoyed that. They brought someone's elses meal to my husband, and his to somebody else. The other person already started eating, so they couldn't exchange. They have to re-make his meal. I don't typically leave negative reviews because I understand that things can go wrong in the service industry but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel it's worth sharing. We visited for lunch on Sunday, 2/22/26 between 12:30-2:20 PM and sat at a front downstairs picnic table with our small dogs. We were very mindful to keep them under the table and out of the way, especially since other patrons also had dogs (some even on laps and in strollers), so it's clearly a dog-friendly environment. We ordered drinks and a tuna appetizer, which was fine, but no one checked back in with us. At the same time, we also ordered a chicken tender platter. After waiting over an hour and watching multiple tables seated after us receive their food ...we had to flag down our server to ask about it. She appeared to have forgotten the order, which we understand can happen. However, another 10 minutes passed, and instead of addressing the delay, she asked if we wanted another drink. At that point, we explained we needed to leave and politely asked if the food could be boxed to-go and possibly removed from the bill due to the delay. She agreed and eventually returned with what can only be described as severely overcooked, burnt chicken tenders completely dried out and not at all what should be served. She mentioned the kitchen "Fry-cook"was "very slow" but that she removed it from the check. Then the manager came over. While he initially apologized, his tone quickly shifted to defensive and dismissive, emphasizing that the order had been put in and that it was removed from the bill as if that alone resolved the situation. What was most off-putting was that he then looked at me and said, "Don't do that," referring to me holding my small dog to feed at the picnic table while I had briefly placed a piece of chicken on the table to cool before giving it to them on the ground. It felt unnecessary, accusatory, and completely out of place given the circumstances. Instead of leaving feeling like valued customers after a long wait and a mistake, we were made to feel like we had done something wrong. It was an odd and uncomfortable interaction, especially from management. I truly don't expect perfection, but I do expect professionalism and basic courtesy. Unfortunately, this experience missed the mark. read more

Two stars, one each for the bar staff and the guitarist. Was there on a Monday night. Bar service was EXCEPTIONAL as was the guitarist. Food was mediocre. I realize in a tourist town you barely have to try...and they did. Since the service was great, thought I'd come back a second night and try something else. Bar was packed so I sat in regular dining. Big mistake. Waited over 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging my presence.
