Amazing seafood and amazing atmosphere well worth the trip you will be amazed as well

Yum! After a couple of days near Orlando and having too much fast food and pizza (because of my kids) I was really looking forward to some good seafood. This place did not disappoint! We started with the crab cake appetizer which was fantastic. I ordered the crab dusted redfish royale which was delicious! I love the smashed potatoes and corn maque choux. Unfortunately I was stuffed from the crab cake appetizer and the side salad I ordered so I couldn't eat too much. My husband had the andouille crusted grouper which he said was fantastic. My son ordered the southern fried chicken tenders which he said were just ok since they were kind of soft and not very crispy. We sat in the alley/patio area and the seating and ambiance was absolutely beautiful. Service was excellent as well. I'd definitely recommend this place! read more

I rarely give restaurants a five star review but Harry's Seafood Bar & Grill deserves every bit of it. We were in town visiting friends who live locally and they brought us here and put a lot of thought into it. I got the crab cakes dinner and I got one side with it. I chose the red beans and rice. Both the entree and the side were delicious. My friends got Jambalaya, grit cake, Fat tire, boudin balls and red fish. Everyone loved their food and our waitress Kayla was amazing. The food is consistently delicious, it really lives up to the hype. Definitely a must-visit if you're in St. Augustine, especially if you're in the mood for flavorful, New Orleans-style seafood dishes. The outdoor setup is a big part of what makes it so enjoyable. It's a really comfortable and well-done space with a great atmosphere, laid-back and yet still lively. They've got heaters going when it's chilly and umbrellas for when the sun gets a little intense, so it's a solid spot no matter the weather. On our most recent visit, our server Jesse was super helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly. He checked in at the right times, had great recommendations, and really added to the overall experience. All around, it's one of those places that's easy to recommend. Imagine if The Cheesecake Factory was a New Orleans seafood restaurant. The portions here are massive! This was our choice for our family dinner for our beach trip to Saint Augustine. We lucked out and found street parking. On a weekend night, wait was about 30 minutes. The bar served a delicious mule while we waited. We ended up sitting outside and really enjoyed the (not too loud) live music underneath the string lights. It made for quite the comforting ambience. Our server Gabby was fantastic! She was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She made great recommendations and definitely made the experience for us. Prices were so affordable! I don't know anywhere else you can get two lobster tails for $37.99 with a side! TWO! Majority of entrees were $20-$30 with plenty of under $20 options as well. We received complimentary bread with butter prior to the meal and the in-house butter was DELICIOUS. I believe it was onion butter or something and we definitely inhaled it. For starters, I loved the calamari and the Louisiana fondeaux. The blue crab claws were just ok. The horseradish mayonnaise definitely made it more appetizing. For entree, I opted for the crab crusted redfish royale. This thing was a monster. The crab cake smashed on top was absolutely delicious and best part of my meal. Everything else was just too much cream and felt overpowering and heavy. Fish was lost in it all. My husband's shrimps and scallops orleans was much better balanced dish. My brother really enjoyed his shrimp scampi and my mom enjoyed her ribeye. The lobster tails were massive and delicious. Everyone loved the NOLA rice. At the end, we got the fried Oreos (Oreo beignets) which made everyone loosen their waistbands. We all left feeling way too full with plenty of leftovers for the next day. I took a day trip with some friends to St. Augustine and we discovered this incredible seafood restaurant. Harry's Seafood Bar & Grille is a cozy rustic and modern venue. You know it's good when there's a long wait. It's a cute two story building with an outdoor seating area. Since it was a little chilly out, they had lamp heaters available and even live entertainment. The particular singer that day was phenomenal with her unique raspy indie tone. We had a 20 minute wait for our table which happened to be outdoors, so we bought drinks at the bar. The Bloody Mary and Sangria were both better than expected. The downstairs bar was a little tiny for the amount of patrons, but cozy. There's also a bar upstairs. When we finally got seated, we were pleased to have an awesome server. He was attentive, helpful, and had a good sense of humor with our silly group. The staff in general were friendly. I can honestly say that everything we ordered was good. For appetizers we chose Fried Green Tomatoes, Cheese Dip, Fish Strips and Seafood Dip. Dinner included Seared Tuna, Seafood Pasta, Crab Cakes, and a Redfish special. Everything was well seasoned, savory, and rather sizable portions. The only downside is that there may be a wait for the restrooms since this is definitely a high traffic restaurant! My family and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was a little hot outside, so we sat indoors in one of the dining rooms. I had the blackened fish tacos with a side of collard greens. The tacos were filled with fresh pico de gallo and lettuce, and the greens were salty and a little spicy. All of us really enjoyed our food! Amazing restaurant. Beautiful inside and out, large patio outside for when weather is nice. Live music of the weekends, I think. Our server was excellent, very attentive and efficient. The bread is delicious, soft, and the garlic butter ... yum... spreads so nicely. I started with a Blackberry Bramble which was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this beverage. I had shrimp and grits as it was a chilly day. It was as perfect as any can be. The grits were smooth and creamy, shrimp lightly seasoned and served in a Cajun gravy. My husband had the fried shrimp and said it was excellent. He doesn't eat cole slaw, so I had his and it was so good, fresh sweet, and delightfully crunchy. Wow! Food tastes just like you're sitting in the New Orleans French Quarter. I'm not sure I had joy like this at a restaurant in a really long time. The fried crab claws were 100000% one of the best things I've eaten. I wish I could have taken a gallon home. The fried green tomatoes were also spectacular and I like all the accompaniments that came on it. All of our entrees were delicious. We had the pasta, fish sandwich, and fish tacos. The best treat was the friend Oreo beignets were the final closing act. We love sitting outside on the patio at this bustling restaurant. We had a drink while waiting to be seated. Service is friendly but a bit slow. We ordered the Fish Tacos (blackened), which were very good and also tried the Shrimp & Crawfish Pot Pie. The fish tacos had a nice crunch. Harry's is a staple for my boyfriend for when we go to St. Augustine. And there's a reason for it! They have wonderful food and are conveniently located in the walking area of downtown st Augustine. Service has been a little hit or miss depending on when we've come but it's not been horrible. If you've come for dinner be prepared to wait. Anytime we've stopped in after 5 it's always been about an hour wait and there's very limited seating space to wait. However, while you're waiting they do have a server who will take drink orders and bring them out to you. We love that service as it's very convenient. This is an old home or business that's been converted on each floor to have its own kitchen. We've dined on the first and second floor, and so far I prefer the first floor dining space as it was just a little less crowded. The food can be spicy so be wary of what you're ordering! The mashed potatoes have a kick to them that's not advertised. The pasta has a kick on the aftertaste. I'm not able to handle really spicy foods and unfortunately for me most of the menu is off limits. However my boyfriend finds the spice a lot more tolerable and loves the salmon dish. Overall, it's a bit of a pricier place to eat but it's a nice treat once in a while. read more

It started out good. The she crab soup and crab cake app had us thinking we made a good choice. One person has an allergy to a particular preservative used in frozen shrimp so that was expressed to our waitress. The meal he chose said "fresh shrimp" so he asked her if the shrimp was frozen and she said honestly she'd avoid it because she didn't want to chance him having an allergic reaction. We appreciated her honesty and so he ordered his food without it. He did take a spoon of soup though and I guess the crab meat had the preservative because his lip started tingling and swelling. Thankfully he only tried it and ate no more. The entrees came out and the shrimp scampi was pretty gross. Literally swimming in a bed of oil and the shrimp were so gross. Like the kind you get frozen from a cheap supermarket and still had the shell pieces on some. My husband said his twin lobster tails were overcooked. The weird thing too was to refill my husband's soda the waitress brought out a drippy styrofoam cup and dumped it into his glass and then left him with the almost empty cup. The place was really overpriced at over $4 for a cup of soda and tea and overcooked not fresh high quality seafood. I can't understand why this place is rated so highly. read more

A lovely day in St. Augustine. Stopped by this popular restaurant. Greeted by a lovely hostess. A short wait for an outside table. Unfortunately we weren't assigned a waiter but someone finally noticed and our waiter Jeremy was very attentive. Love the atmosphere. You can smell the fresh air of the ocean. The landscape is well maintained and provides a delightful atmosphere. Ordered the arugula mahi mahi. The fish was superb. Very tender and flakey. Well seasoned. The accompanying rice however was flavorful but rather dry. My husband paired his mahi mahi with corn grits which were some of the best grits I'd ever had. I sat at the bar for dinner, I had a very busy bartender who made great drinks but I was never sure if she actually heard my request. This place was busy...! Seems to be a popular spot for tourists visiting St. Augustine, FL. The food was excellent here and I since I was dining alone, I skirted a 45 min wait to be seated for a nice meal at their bar. I tried their seafood dip (excellent) and also a salad with seared Ahi. Where do I begin? Our server, Jordan was personable, friendly, & professional! He was very attentive, polite, and very knowledgeable of the menu! Speaking of menu, wow what. Selection. My fries had the grouper encrusted with something she said was outstanding. She loved the greens, saying they had just the right kick! I had the chicken and grits with broccoli! Came here on St Patrick's Day so you can imagine the traffic and headache to find parking, but we did. It was a 20-25 min wait for first come, which wasn't bad. My friends and I were in St. Augustine for the Nights of Lights and decided to eat at Harry's since it looked like a popular spot. They don't take reservations, so we went early and were able to get a table right away. It was pretty busy, but service was still fast and friendly. If you want to sit on the patio, though, expect to wait. Since it's known for Cajun/Creole food, our server warned us that some dishes might have a bit of spice. Honestly, I didn't find that to be true at all. Everything we tried tasted pretty bland. We shared the Louisiana Foundeax as an appetizer, and it was fine, but nothing special. I ordered the Bourbon Street salmon, and it was overcooked and lacked flavor. Overall, the food just didn't live up to the hype. I will start this review by saying, this was not my first time coming here. In fact, I've been coming to Harry's for years at several of their other locations. It has always been one of my favorites which is why we chose it for my husbands 59th birthday. What a complete disappointment. It seems that the prices have gone up but the quality and service have gone down since the last time I was there. It was average at best. Each of us (and there were 4) had something different and it was the same all around. "It's ok". That was not what I expected nor what I have ever experienced before. I'd be hesitant to return as we had over a $200.00 bill and none of us had alcohol drinks. We had water! As for the ambiance, it's super busy which makes it loud. One thing I did notice, the walls and floors were dirty. I had to ask for a new fork as mine had food stuck to it. That grossed me out! With so many other places to go downtown St Augustine, I won't be back here until I know for sure they've been overhauled and back to how they use to be. read more

The service was pretty good for a busy day. I have eaten here a couple times before and really enjoyed the food. This time however was different. I ordered the Ribeye was a pathetic looking steak. It was thin over cooked and had very little flavor. I never send food back and didn't today. You get one opportunity to get it right. If your chef thought that steak was ok to send out wow. When visiting Saint Augustine, I saw this location when we drove by to get to the alligator farm. I enjoy eating seafood on occasion, though I try to stick mostly to a meat free diet. A vacation or work trip seemed like the perfect time to splurge; especially since the seafood is fresh in Florida versus a landlocked state where I live (Arizona). Love the view of the water from the table and was a great ambiance for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Our waitress was fantastic and hope her wedding went well! Dining outside at Harry's and there was a local musician as the crowd had a good vibe as they were enjoying the 80's songs. Went straight for the main course and got the New Orleans Ribeye-was a bit dry but taste was OK with the complimentary sides. The Andouille fish was very tasty, blended well with the red rice and house sauce. There was a less than 10 minute wait for our seats. Service was quick from Rick during our visit. Much appreciated. My husband had heard about the ghostly history of this restaurant and wanted to eat here, so we decided to check it out. I didn't see the inside of the restaurant as we were seated in their gorgeous outdoor courtyard. It was quite magical out there! It did start to rain and the waiters immediately brought large umbrellas to all the people sitting there. Normally I would be annoyed by the rain, but it added a sense of whimsy. I ordered the blackened red fish, and my husband had the ribeye steak. My fish came with a Creole type rice, and collard greens, and a rich cream sauce. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned! I had a bite of it and it was just divine! The restaurant was dog friendly, and that's always a plus for us! A live musician started to play his guitar and sing halfway through our mail and that was lovely! We didn't see any ghosts, but our waitress sure had and told us a couple stories! The food and service were both good, but the ambiance is really what drew us in. It is such a pretty restaurant in a great central location. The chicken dishes are okay. It didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. The shrimp creole on the other hand, was AMAZING. The bread was also very tasty and served with a seasoned butter. We had the banana crème brûlée for dessert and it was my favorite part of the meal. We had about an hour wait time. Very disappointing experience. We absolutely love St. Augustine and visit this beautiful beach town at least twice a year. Unfortunately, despite this restaurant having a 4-star rating and great reviews, this is now the second time we've come here with a group of 7 and they were unable to properly accommodate us or manage seating in a professional way. What was even more disappointing was the attitude and customer service. The staff's tone was not welcoming or customer-friendly at all it felt very much like "this is how it is, take it or leave it." As visitors and loyal tourists who support local businesses, we expect at least a basic level of kindness and professionalism. Restaurants should remember that many of their customers are tourists who choose places based on reviews and recommendations. Positive reviews are what help businesses grow and succeed. The good, bad and ugly since I've been here for dinner 3 times in the past 2 weeks. There is no ugly here. GOOD: Food was consistently very, very good. The she-crab soup is not be be missed. Portions are generous. Whether a table for 3, 4 or 6 each of the servers was friendly and efficient at every visit. Patio is lovely. Jambalaya and Cicken & Shrimp Creole were enough for 2 hefty dinner portions. The stuffed shrimp are so good, as are.the crab cakes. BAD: They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait every day of the week around dinnertime. Worth the wait. Bring your appetite and leave stuffed.
