I loved my visits here. I was staying in the area for work and stopped by for dinner and beer several times. The beer far exceeded my expectations, and the bartender was incredibly engaging. This place is 100% amazing! It's local and the staff there are so friendly. Our server checked on us multiple times and seemed genuinely invested in whether or not we liked the food and drink. We love their single axle which is their classic beer but also all of their IPAs are phenomenal! We had the Reuben and a burger and both of them were so great! I consider myself a Reuben connoisseur, and this is one of the best Rubens I've ever had. It was tender and savory, and the bread was perfectly toasted! Food was simply okay. Dinner for 4 and we all got burgers. Total was over $100. Overpriced, especially for the quality. They don't serve water. You have to get it from a dispenser yourself. Walked in on Sunday a little after 11 am. No one was there except for an unpleasant bartender/server. Ordered spinach/artichoke dip for an appetizer. It was basically a bowl of cream cheese with flakes of what may have been spinach; artichokes were nonexistent. After asking if the corned beef was lean, ordered a Reuben that was basically nothing but fat. The other people in my party were extremely unimpressed as well. This was definitely a one & done for us. There are way better places to eat than this place. read more

I stopped in to have a beer. Twelve local craft beers on tap. I had the Heavy Hitter from a brewer in David City. A Scottish Ale, it was delicious! The kitchen serves sandwiches, burgers, and salads. I went with a group of about 14. I heard ahead of time that the food wasn't good but online reviews we saw were good and the menu also looked good so we wanted to try it. Most of our group agreed that their food was either not good or average. My friend did not like the Reuben and it had very little meat. My partner's sausage plate was supposed to be a sandwich, but it was just a big pile of chopped up fried link sausage that he was not able to eat as a sandwich. The sausage itself was OK but that's basically all there was over bread. My Cuban sandwich was very dry and flavorless, fries were good. The place was very busy on a Friday night, but the service was great, especially for such a big table. It didn't make up for the bad or average food. Several tables had huge platters of nachos that looked really good. If you go there, I would recommend getting them. read more

I don't get down to the Haymarket often for lunch, but the wife and I had business in the area and decided to have lunch at Salt Mine City. I was surprised when we walked in at about 11:45 AM and found very few people inside. I ordered a Wheat beer with a little lemonade in it and found it to be fresh and tasty. For lunch I had grilled chicken on flatbread. When it came to the table that piece of flatbread was totally covered with chicken, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes making it difficult to fold the bread (that's a good thing) to get a bite. I probably should have asked for a different cheese, because the pepperjack was a little too spicy for me, but I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy foods. My wife had the Philly sandwich with their house fries. She said the Philly was great and the fries were epic. They do use a spice on the fries (she likes the hot spices). All in all, I felt the grill and brewery deserves another visit! read more
