Salt Shack is a nice spot to visit during the summer. The restaurant has plenty of food options, although I always circle back to my fave- the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos and Coconut Shrimp. My order was served hot, crispy, and seasoned well. A great place, with a young staff who are pleasant to interact with. There are plenty of seating options to enjoy listening to music and taking in the palm trees and sun. They also serve a very good Mudslide at the bar. My husband and I will definitely be hitting them up before the summer ends. Plan your visit early because the parking lot does get packed after 3 and goes into an overflow situation. read more

I've passed by this place a few times driving to Robert Moses and decided to give it a shot after spending the day at the beach. I didn't know what to expect but the place was bigger than I thought. All food you order from a counter and pick any table to sit at. The prices of the food was higher than I thought considering the quality of the food. The live band was supposed to start at 7pm but they didn't come on until closer to 7:40pm. The band played some classic rock songs but the singer was wearing a face mask so the sound wasn't the best. When I say face mask I don't mean a hospital mask but a costume mask. I ordered the steak sandwich medium but came out well done. They only put 2 small thin slices for $18. I ordered the pineapple spicy margarita which was $16. It tasted good but they didn't remove the seeds from the jalapeño they put in the drink so as you drink you got the seeds as well. It's a nice atmosphere but overall felt disappointing. I wouldn't return. read more

You pay for the ambiance! The parking situation is terrible since parking is for the beach and restaurant. Restaurant is very casual. We waited in line to order for about 10 min on a Saturday night. Menu is pricey for the quality of food you are getting. Once you order, they give you a buzzer and you receive a text. You find your own seating, either inside or outside. We opted for the tables in the sand behind the stage. Food was mediocre. My chicken wrap barely had any chicken in it and same with the steak sandwich. The tator tots and chicken/fries were the best bang for your buck. We arrived for the live music which was supposed to start at 7 and the band didn't go on until closer to 7:45pm. Before the band, they had a DJ playing and the music was incredibly loud. Their cocktails are $16/each; frozen ones are premade. Very cool beach bar! Parking is free for non residents after 4pm which is when we stopped in to grab a drink after a day at the beach. Loved their drinks, the painkiller is a classic. It wasn't too busy when we went so service was quick. They always have some live music going on which was fun. My parents always come here. Tonight they invited myself and my fiancé to join. The band playing tonight was "The 90's band." All music from when I was growing up and what I listen to now. There also wasn't a cover to get in, which was great. You order your food at the counter and wait for your buzzer to go off. It didn't take long at all. I had a Caesar salad and added shrimp. There was a generous amount of shrimp too. The shrimp had a nice sear. My fiancé got a cheeseburger and a cheese dog, which he said was just okay. My mom enjoyed her coconut shrimp. My stepdad didn't like his clam strips at all. Why? There wasn't any clam! It was all breading. Not one iota of clam was present. The fries it came with were crisp and had some good flavor though. Drinks were a little pricey, but that's expected. My fiancé said the men's bathroom was absolutely disgusting. He also said there was an attendant in there telling folks which stalls were free. Had such a great first experience at Salt Shack. We came on a Monday afternoon for the August family night- they had bouncy houses, face painting, popcorn and balloon animals all free of charge for the kids. Drinks and food are ordered in different stations. Drinks were 2 for 1 until 6pm. We ordered at the food counter and then searched for an open table. The lobster roll was amazing! First time visiting my buddy and we go to watch his Volleyball games on a Thursday night. Unbelievable atmosphere. Great place that you can tell gets popular as the night goes on. Great waitress service and bartenders. 2 for 1 drink specials Food was pretty good. I had a chicken Caesar salad wrap and onion rings. Decently expensive but it is NY so I guess that's normal. This place had a band playing which was great and a huge outside dining and drink area as well. I would love if my hometown would have something like this. First time at Cedar Beach and enjoyed every bit of it! A staycation that felt like an actual vacation. It was about an hour drive from Howard Beach for us but we get a room Friday night-Sunday close y so we don't have to drive further and explore the town a bit. Entry for non-residents is $40 and free for Babylon residents but totally worth it. Just be sure to arrive earlier, it can get busy and while parking is ample, it can fill up. The beach itself and Salt Shack is clean and well taken care of. Salt Shack was such a lively and fun vibe. Plenty of outdoor seating on the sand with comfortable seats or picnic tables. Plenty of drink and food options. The staff are great, just overall great visitors and people all around. Definitely the go-to for weekends during the Summer! read more

We came out to see our favorite cover band on an afternoon when the sun had just broken out. Thankfully, perhaps because it's still before Memorial Day, we did not have to pay to park nor were we asked to pay a cover charge at 1PM. If we had that would've really added to the expense for a couple of rounds of drinks and a $16 soft pretzel that came with just one tiny cup of cheese. Wasn't digging the self serve aspect and was very surprised that there was no wait service at all in any of the open sections either indoors or out. Tables were not being wiped down in between customers yet they were not short staffed. It appears to be going for the Key West or Caribbean vibe and the atmosphere is definitely close but for the prices there should be sit down options and way more cleanliness both at the tables and in the restrooms. The metal tables in the sand could really use cushions; they're very uncomfortable the way they are. Not sure we'll return because it's too overpriced for what you get. read more

Honestly, I'm just confused with this place. My husband and I ate here the other night after seeing beautiful photos of Salt Shack. It really feels like you're at a tropical oasis! Unfortunately, that was pretty much the only best part. Not sure why, but my husband and I were expecting a sit down meal, not an "order at the counter and take your tray to a table" type of place. Oh well. My husband ordered carne asada and I ordered chicken fingers and fries with no salt, but guess what?! They couldn't make the fries without salt because they are already prepared with them on!! That's a first. The kids at the cashier couldn't have been bothered. Food was average. This is a very popular spot that's right on the beach. The atmosphere is pretty fun and the best part is the live music. The band is pretty good, and there's also a dj that plays in between sets. The crowd here is pretty diverse, with everyone just having a good time dancing and enjoying the music. I've been here a few times and it's always fun! The lines for drinks and food are separate and are usually pretty long. I was not particularly impressed with the food, I got chicken fingers and French fries, and my friend got a wrap with sweet potato fries. The drinks were OK, just a bit watered down. If you come earlier in the day, you'll need to pay $40 for parking, which is probably why it's so crowded later at night when the parking is free. Weather early wasn't great so the band cancelled , but the DJ was terrific .Played requests and was upbeat and nobody missed the band . Food is good, drinks are great, service very good. Last night we came to see one of our favorite bands, Disco Unlimited. We drove up to the entrance and a police officer along with an employee said, "parking lot full". Ok, I'm watching cars pull out, they were leaving, but lot full. "Drive 300 yards, there's another parking lot, then you can walk it from there". I don't want "special" treatment but I showed them our handicapped parking sticker and asked if perhaps there may be an open spot for that. Nope. We drove three hundred yards and walked it back to the venue, honestly no easy task, but whatever. We finally reached the main "full" lot and counted no less than25 open parking spaces just in the lane we were walking in, so let's just double that. So I ask, do I have to tip the guy, or know the guy to park in the main lot? Could it be that they have zero communication between the cars leaving the lot and the person at the front claiming the lot is full? This is a great place but I'm not happy with this ignorance or trickery. Add to that, the main floor where the music is playing is overcrowded, yes, we unfortunately left after 2 hours because some drunk trampled on my wife's ankle. As usual, the floor above which is a great option, always has "private party" on it. So, all in all, after loving the Salt Shack and coming here so often, we're done with it and prefer The Boatyard 9 minutes away on Ocean Parkway. After all, being herded like sheep and tossed in a pen, that's not for everybody. Always wanted to try the Salt Shack, the old OBI. So, on a warm Saturday night we took a ride to Salt Shack to see what it's all about. We arrived just before 6 and it was already hopping. Found a parking spot rather quickly since it was early. Had no idea if it was sit down or counter service, well it was all counter service and sit wherever was available. There were several counters for drinks and food and a bar on the beach. We ordered our drinks, my wife had the Pain Killer (Captain Morgan, Malibu, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice) and I had a Frozen Original Margarita - Made with Silver Olmeca Altos Tequila. Both drinks were pretty good even though my margaritas I make at home are better. We received our drinks, and the food line was stating to grow so I went to the beach to grab a table and my wife stood on line for our fish and chips dinners. There were tables inside and plenty of tables on the beach. There were more room on the beach and a nice evening, so it was a good choice. Diso Unlimited was the band that night, they have bands almost every night in the summer. We hung out, drinking and eating. The fish and chips were very good, crispy fish and crispy fries. Not a healthy portion of fish but plenty of fries. Even though the band came out late we enjoyed the music. Then it was time for a second drink, my wife had another Pain Killer and I wanted to try something different, so I went with the Rocket Fuel (Cruzan Rum, pina colada, amaretto and 151 floater) It was pretty good, now I will try to make it home and compare. We continued to hang and enjoy the music, drinks and the atmosphere. By 9 PM we were there for a little over 3 hours and time to go, now it was chaotic, we went to use the restrooms and the lady's line was so long now there were women in the men's room. Luckily there was a staff member in the men's directly all ladies in the stalls and my wife said there was also someone in the lady's room keeping everyone moving like a drill sergeant. Salt Schack is a cool place to hang with good vibes on hot days with some drinks, food and music. Definitely a beach restaurant. Would return and will enjoy since I know what to expect, could be a good time. read more

Other than that, the vibes here are nice if you're looking for a new spot to go out to. They have live music most weekend nights, so everyone hangs out and dances outside near the band.
