Lobster roll

Had such a great first experience at Salt Shack. We came on a Monday afternoon for the August family night- they had bouncy houses, face painting, popcorn and balloon animals all free of charge for the kids. Drinks and food are ordered in different stations. Drinks were 2 for 1 until 6pm. We ordered at the food counter and then searched for an open table. The lobster roll was amazing! And the drinks were so good! Such a nice place on the beach to visit during the summer time.

We hung out at the Salt Shack last Night after a nice afternoon at the beach. The place is nice, the music good "DJ Theo" drinks good, we didn't try the food cause we were too busy dancing. Service was good and fast. We danced the night away, everyone had a good times we'll def come back. Go check out this place guys! We need more spots like this in NY.

First time at Cedar Beach and enjoyed every bit of it! A staycation that felt like an actual vacation. It was about an hour drive from Howard Beach for us but we get a room Friday night-Sunday close y so we don't have to drive further and explore the town a bit. Entry for non-residents is $40 and free for Babylon residents but totally worth it. Just be sure to arrive earlier, it can get busy and while parking is ample, it can fill up. The beach itself and Salt Shack is clean and well taken care of. Salt Shack was such a lively and fun vibe. Plenty of outdoor seating on the sand with comfortable seats or picnic tables. Plenty of drink and food options. The staff are great, just overall great visitors and people all around. Definitely the go-to for weekends during the Summer!

Honestly, I'm just confused with this place. My husband and I ate here the other night after seeing beautiful photos of Salt Shack. It really feels like you're at a tropical oasis! Unfortunately, that was pretty much the only best part. Not sure why, but my husband and I were expecting a sit down meal, not an "order at the counter and take your tray to a table" type of place. Oh well. My husband ordered carne asada and I ordered chicken fingers and fries with no salt, but guess what?! They couldn't make the fries without salt because they are already prepared with them on!! That's a first. The kids at the cashier couldn't have been bothered. Food was average. Fries weren't that great. The place has way too many entrances and exits that I felt like we were queuing for a ride. I wouldn't come back here again.

This is a very popular spot that's right on the beach. The atmosphere is pretty fun and the best part is the live music. The band is pretty good, and there's also a dj that plays in between sets. The crowd here is pretty diverse, with everyone just having a good time dancing and enjoying the music. I've been here a few times and it's always fun! The lines for drinks and food are separate and are usually pretty long. I was not particularly impressed with the food, I got chicken fingers and French fries, and my friend got a wrap with sweet potato fries. The drinks were OK, just a bit watered down. If you come earlier in the day, you'll need to pay $40 for parking, which is probably why it's so crowded later at night when the parking is free. Set your expectations accordingly and go for the music and fun beach atmosphere, and you will have a great time.

Salt shack is a nice place to visit if you're mainly going to enjoy the beach. Non- resident will need to pay $40 for parking. The food was ok. I got a burger and coconut shrimp. I heard their salads are really good from other patrons. Drinks were a decent price. There is no waiter service here. You order your food and self seat. The outdoor seating is nice if not too hot. You can then walk to the beach or take shuttle.

Avocado salad with grilled chicken and a strawberry daiquiri and margarita mix

The atmosphere and environment itself was safe comfortable and clean. The food was good of course I had the avocado salad with grilled chicken. The drinks were OK. It could've been a little stronger. The service was good no complaints.

Great place to come down to enjoy the sunset and a cocktail while listening to live music! Truly feels like you're on vacation.

Always wanted to try the Salt Shack, the old OBI. So, on a warm Saturday night we took a ride to Salt Shack to see what it's all about. We arrived just before 6 and it was already hopping. Found a parking spot rather quickly since it was early. Had no idea if it was sit down or counter service, well it was all counter service and sit wherever was available. There were several counters for drinks and food and a bar on the beach. We ordered our drinks, my wife had the Pain Killer (Captain Morgan, Malibu, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice) and I had a Frozen Original Margarita - Made with Silver Olmeca Altos Tequila. Both drinks were pretty good even though my margaritas I make at home are better. We received our drinks, and the food line was stating to grow so I went to the beach to grab a table and my wife stood on line for our fish and chips dinners. There were tables inside and plenty of tables on the beach. There were more room on the beach and a nice evening, so it was a good choice. Diso Unlimited was the band that night, they have bands almost every night in the summer. We hung out, drinking and eating. The fish and chips were very good, crispy fish and crispy fries. Not a healthy portion of fish but plenty of fries. Even though the band came out late we enjoyed the music. Then it was time for a second drink, my wife had another Pain Killer and I wanted to try something different, so I went with the Rocket Fuel (Cruzan Rum, pina colada, amaretto and 151 floater) It was pretty good, now I will try to make it home and compare. We continued to hang and enjoy the music, drinks and the atmosphere. By 9 PM we were there for a little over 3 hours and time to go, now it was chaotic, we went to use the restrooms and the lady's line was so long now there were women in the men's room. Luckily there was a staff member in the men's directly all ladies in the stalls and my wife said there was also someone in the lady's room keeping everyone moving like a drill sergeant. Salt Schack is a cool place to hang with good vibes on hot days with some drinks, food and music. Definitely a beach restaurant. Would return and will enjoy since I know what to expect, could be a good time.

lots of improvements to this place since my last visit.there are four large sitting areas one inside the restaurant another on the deck outside were there is a stage for entertainment, another large area on the beach with umbrellas and a beautiful roof deck.they also have a nice menu selection and the coconut shrimp and fries I had were good.the bar has a large selection of cocktails and beer and my rum Punch and wifey's margarita were delicious.

Can you set up on the beach with a blanket and chairs an umbrella and still go up and get food and drinks? During the day?

Yes you can .

Is it kid friendly and do they take reservations for parties of 10 or more?

Its a beach bar type of place. Kids can run on the beach right outside the Salt Shack. My only gripe is that bar drinks are very expensive.

What time are they open until? Is this a good spot for a night like 7pm on?

Salt Shack is open nightly until 11pm It's a great spot for any night like 7pm on.…

Is it opened for lunch?

Of course! It’s the beach, they are open day and night

Whether dining in or ordering takeout, the food takes far longer than expected. Takeout orders are routinely 15 minutes or more past the quoted pickup time, which is frustrating when you're planning your day around their estimate. Service has also been inconsistent. The waitstaff often seems disorganized, and communication regarding delays is lacking. I understand restaurants get busy, but after multiple visits, the same problems keep occurring. The food is decent, but not enough to make up for the long waits and repeated service issues. After giving this restaurant several opportunities, I don't see myself return

As mentioned they try to offer fresh, seasonal apps, handhelds, salads and entrees. They have a full bar, so if a beer or cocktail is wanted you do have options there as well. The Mr selected the Chilled Shrimp & Crab Stack, but eliminated the hard boiled egg aspect and thought it was light, tasty and refreshing. I opted for the Faroe Salmon with shrimp that came accompanied/on top of a risotto and peas. I thought cooked medium was perfect making it soft and fork flaky to mix along together. It was a very juicy sizable piece making it very filling. We didn't have time for a dessert, but noted they did have a few offerings there. I'll work back with this!! I ordered the bone marrow fries and the crab and scallop ricotta croquette pappardelle. I received a huge dish of bone marrow fries and immediately knew that it was too much for me to consume in this setting. The bone marrow fries were not too bad a little salty in some areas. The crab and scallop pappardelle & ricotta croquette and pappardelle pasta was okay as well. This dish was soothing and not too harsh for my stomach and offered a mild flavor. So when I walked in with my casual attire "all eyes on me" as I stood there to wait for an employee to approach me because I didn't know the procedures, whether I should just grab a seat or not. A Caucasian couple walked in behind me as I was waiting and came and stood in front of me. The guy behind the bar comes around gives them a seat and stood by me asking how can he help me. After I told him my business there he told me to have a seat. I recognize Mike and introduced myself. He welcome me back and tension was lifted a little but all the while I was there it was awkward for a brown person to sit alone and dine in. Interaction from the staff just felt forced. I wasn't expected preferential treatment just equal treatment. Normally I'd walk out just like the 6 people that came in and walked out while I was sitting. I really want to give 3 stars but I will let the consistency of 4 to 5 stars continue. Although there are two ratings lower than 3 stars. Improvements are needed but I won't be able to confirm the changes, reason being, it was too awkward for me to return here. Just......inspire more, Yelp more

Whether you're looking to grab a drink, share some appetizers, or sit down for dinner, it's a great setting. I visited last week with my family, and the appetizers were definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered the Magnolia Flatbread, Burrata, and Baked Clams. The flatbread is an absolute must-order, it was outstanding and easily the favorite dish of the night. The burrata and baked clams were also very good. For our entrees, my dad and I both ordered burgers. While they were flavorful, they were unfortunately overcooked. I ordered mine medium and my dad ordered medium-rare, but neither burger had any pink in the center. My wife ordered the Tuna Sliders from the appetizer menu and they weren't what she expected; she said she wouldn't order them again. My mother enjoyed the French Dip and thought it was very good from what I tried. Magnolias serves "cottage fries" instead of traditional French fries. They're essentially thick-cut fried potato slices--more like a hearty potato chip. While it's an interesting twist, I'm a French fry person and personally prefer traditional fries. My wife and I both ordered the truffle cottage fries, and they came out quite soggy, likely from sitting in too much oil. We mentioned it to our waitress, who agreed after seeing them and kindly removed them from the bill. Overall, Magnolias has a great atmosphere, excellent appetizers, and a unique setting that makes it worth visiting. While there were a few issues with some of our entrees and sides, I'd definitely return, especially for drinks and appetizers in the courtyard.
