My friends and I came here as part of our friend's bach trip. We didn't have reservations but it was fine because they weren't very busy. We did a bottle of the Runway Rose and Gold Arc Chardonnay, I had the Rose which was good. One of our friends brought a charcuterie board which was so cute and good! Once a World War II airport hanger, this repurposed building has been beautifully renovated with rustic touches highlighted by strings of light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. With ample space inside and outside, there's room for everyone. This vineyard spans 108 acres and abuts the tidal marshes of Wequetquock Cove. Almost ten years ago, my husband got down on one knee and proposed to me right by the water. This past Sunday we vroom advantage of the lovely weather, packed a picnic lunch, and made our way to this special vineyard. We bought a bottle of the Cabernet Franc which is our favorite wine there. This red wine has a warm, spicy blend of dark cherry , blackberries, and bramble mixed with roasted peppers and a hint of vanilla. It paired perfectly with the cheeses we brought. When we finished that bottle, we decided to try a glass of Pinot Noir and a glass of Chardonnay. Both were exquisite. Our bartender was super knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction. Pro Tip: If you want an obstructed view of the vineyard, venture upstairs to the upper deck. You won't be disappointed. If you come in the late afternoon, it's shaded so you don't have to worry about being in the hot sun. read more

Very nice, quaint, vinyard tucked away off a local road. The Vinyard is set in a refinished barn that has multiple indoor and outdoor seating areas. Wine was good, the cab Franc being our favorite. I was trying wineries all over connecticut and rhode island and had the best experience at Saltwater Farms. They offered free tastings of any wines which made us buy the most bottles. The sommolier was very attentive and gave us several recommendations of nearby bars and restaurants. Also I loved that taste of their wines, which I guess is the most important part. We got the pinos gris, the rose and the cabernet franc. read more

Saltwater Farm is a MUST visit if you are in the Mystic/Stonington area! I would consider Saltwater Farm one of my top 3 favorite wineries - it is really something magical. There is plenty of space indoors and outside to sprawl out and enjoy some time (and some wine). Great service, options for everyone, and they even have someone outside managing their parking lot. What more could you want! Their wine is phenomenal, and you never feel overwhelmed by the amount of people there as it is huge! You can walk all the way down through their property to the water (very Instagrammable) and check out the vines on your way. It's a great place for a bachelorette or shower stop as well! Definitely make the stop. You'll love it as much as I do, I promise! read more

We had a great afternoon here. Very Covid Soave with plenty of space outdoors to spread out. We lucked out because they didn't have a Wedding booked, they had live music and a food truck on site and the weather couldn't have been better AND we scored two Adirondack chairs almost immediately upon arriving. Gorgeous property, huge venue, but itty bitty bar. We pulled up to the parking lot and was a bit confused as to where to go. We found our way to the entrance and we're greeted warmly but a man behind a 3x3 tiny bar under the stairwell of this vast property. We inquired about tastings, which they said they do not offer, so we grabbed a bunch of glasses, and we're surprised - to us, the descriptions did not match the taste. In fact, we thought three of the wines tasted all very similarly and were drier than most of the nearby wineries. The wine simply did not offer anything our palate prefers, but we'd come back just for the breezy, beautiful property. Gorgeous place for a picnic! read more

A great place to socially distance in an outdoor space. The space, both inside and out, is beautiful. I am not a wine-drinker but luckily for me they also have plenty of beer options in cans from local breweries (like Beer'd and Two Roads). This way, everyone can enjoy a little drink because let's be real, we all need one right now. Food trucks and live music some days so be sure to check their website for details. I'd suggest bringing your own gold because the food trucks sell out often. Woodfella's Pizza is a mile away do you can't go wrong there! Downsides: very long lines for getting your drinks so order by the bottle and bring your own bucket of ice to avoid going through the line more than once. read more

My husband and I fell in love with Saltwater Farm Vineyard as our venue the first time we went there together before we were even engaged. Oddly enough I had already been to the venue when I was in my cousin's wedding here 6 years ago, but when Alex and I went to Saltwater Farm Vineyard for an oyster shucking class we had an awesome experience that cemented it as a part of our own journey. We chatted with Jess and Greg, and the owners Michael and Merrily for hours after the event. The day after we got engaged we went to Saltwater Farm Vineyard to celebrate and booked it as our venue the next day. The space is absolutely gorgeous. I love how intimate the venue feels while also having enough room for all of our guests. The flow of the events at Saltwater is seamless based on the layout. We had the ceremony in the vineyard, the cocktail hour outside/under the tent, and the reception inside. We were able to fit all 124 of our guests on the first floor, but we opened the second floor bar to open up the space even more. My two favorite things about the venue are the space itself and the natural ambiance. The space makes everything feel together, if you're upstairs you can still see and hear the dance floor below, if you're outside under the tent for fresh air or cigars you can still see and hear the dance floor as well. It's all so connected keeping all of the guests having a similar experience. Additionally, the ambiance is amazing. I described my wedding style as simple but elegant. The lighting in the venue is so unique and is captured beautifully in photos whether the overhead lights are on or off. I also loved getting ready in the bridal suite on site so that I did not have to be transported after I got ready. The space has such incredible natural light which is great for getting ready photos. We also used the bridal suite for the wedding party to wait in while our guests were seated. It was so fun to watch our guests arrive and fill up all of the seats in the vineyard. It was a special moment watching all of our planning come to life. Merrily is very quick to respond and answer any of your questions. Jess and Greg are not only the nicest people and most helpful people, but they also made visiting the venue feel like we were coming home. Very honestly, the first moment I cried at my wedding was when I waved to Jess and Greg before going into the vineyard for my first look. It felt like everything had come full circle since the oyster shucking class all those months ago. I absolutely loved this venue and cannot speak highly enough about it. There is a very pleasant attitude here looking out at a well manicured vineyard that is close to the water. We found the woman at the wine bar friendly and helpful. We liked the Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet franc best. They allow outside snacks to be brought in--so we kept it simple and tasty with some Brie and assorted crackers. We took a stroll in the vineyard--pretty perfect. All of the other patrons we met were nice and well-mannered. Overall, a very nice location to experience. 4.5 Stars. read more

This vineyard is housed in an old World War II vintage hangar. Located in lovely Stonington CT. It's set on beautiful grounds with stone terraces and just a short walk to the waterfront. The decor is stunning and very mesmerizing. They accommodate a lot of weddings here on the property. It gets VERY busy here on the weekends, in fact you sometimes have to call ahead for a reservation. I WISH I could say I loved their wines... I have been here several different times and the wines just never jump out at me. However the grounds alone are worth the visit!! A quiet but popular vineyard, it's the only one I know made from an old airplane hanger. It's beautifully redone with moderately plentiful and very clean bathrooms. There are bars on the first and second floor, the second floor overlooking the first. It must look beautiful for weddings, which I understand they occasionally host. read more

We stopped by to have a nice bottle of wine outdoors and we're told by our server they could only give us cheap plastic cups because they had a wedding event that night and they didn't have enough glasses and didn't want to stay late on their shift washing glasses before the wedding. Of course, we were told, we could buy wine glasses for $3! Really? The don't have enough wine glasses for their guests but they have plenty to sell??? Totally ruined our experience. Amateur move and not a place that treats customers very nice. There are plenty of other nicer wineries 15-20 minutes away. I'd go to one of those instead. read more

I hate to update this but planned my friends entire 30th birthday around driving here and hit some traffic on the way down. We called telling them we would be fifteen minutes late for our reservation and they said that we may not be able to sit downstairs but they would set a table side upstairs for us. We arrived at the said time and they said I misunderstand the person on the phone and we could attempt to get a tasting if we can "get in". I then proceeded to say we wouldn't have drove here if we knew that and she was barely apologetic (really didn't seem to care at all). Honestly I've been in customer service for so long and they are just horrible here, I will never come back. It is not worth the hassle of terrible employees and customer service. You can't beat wine near the water! Two friends and I setup a picnic on their lawn and bought a bottle of Saltwater Farm's wine to enjoy with our snacks. It was pretty crowded on a Saturday afternoon in September, but that was to be expected. Prepare to park far down the driveway if you're arriving later in the day! There was live music from when we arrived (around 3pm) to close. There's also a patio area and an upper-deck area (all safely socially distanced). I definitely recommend visiting Saltwater Farm Vineyard if you're looking for wonderful scenery, a fun vibe, and most importantly, great wine! read more

Saltwater Farm was the first stop on our trip to knock out the southeast corner of the Connecticut Wine Passport because it was the first stop you would think it would be the least memorable, but that is not the case here. Due to there being a wedding the day we went the downstairs sitting area was not able to be utilized. We did not do a tasting, but I cannot turn down a Rosé, so we opted for a bottle and headed outside to sit and just view the vineyard. The views and grounds are gorgeous. The building itself is an old plane hangar and the restoration done to it is stunning. We are looking forward to a return visit. read more

This was stop #2 for the day and I agree with Maryclaire H - my experience with Saltwater has more to do with the actual venue/grounds then the tasting itself. The grounds itself are absolutely gorgeous and the idea of taking a converted airplane hanger and transforming it into a tasting room and event venue is genius. We stopped here for our second stop because Saltwater closed the earliest of all the wineries - 3pm. It seems they make a majority of their money from weddings and other events during the summer. When we arrived we were told to go to the second floor which houses the tasting room and also over looks some of the wine production/event space for the property. There is a tasting bar but it was full so we stood around a wine barrel waiting for someone to assist us. It took several minutes but eventually an employee came and just poured us some wine and left - no explanation as to what we were drinking or a friendly hello. Luckily there was a tasting menu on our barrel for Mark C and I to hopefully figure out what we were drinking. All in all we sampled 2 reds and 2 whites and were served by 3 different servers all of whom looked rushed and harried. We probably could have gotten some more wine as they were just going from barrel to barrel and pouring to anyone with an empty glass. The wines were quite good but I could not justify the price per bottle so we left the tasting room and walked the grounds. Unfortunately they were setting up for a wedding so our time was cut short. I would give Saltwater another shot, maybe during a less busy time of year to get a better experience, but a least for now it is not the wines that I will remember from my time at Saltwater. read more

Combine a very cool building (a converted airplane hanger!) with breathtakingly beautiful grounds (over 100 acres), and some very good wine, and you have the recipe for Saltwater Farm Vineyard. The building is a large open space with some cozy nooks and crannies, like the wicker chairs and love seats in front of the fireplace. Our tasting team of Paul and Beth were fabulously entertaining and guided us through tastings of five wines - 2010 Estate Chardonnay ($18), 2010 Gold Arc Estate Chardonnay ($27), 2011 Cabernet Rose ($23), 2008 Estate Cabernet Franc ($28), and a 2008 Estate Merlot ($30). The grounds really are gorgeous, and they have hosted many a wedding. We also saw a limo full of a bachelorette party participants sitting around giggling as they sampled the wines.... read more

This is one of my favorite vineyards in CT! The setting is gorgeous. You can smell the sea air, and it's a short walk down to the waterfront. I love sitting on the patio with a picnic and a bottle of wine. The only way they could make it better would be to have umbrellas at the tables outside for a little reprieve from the sun. But that is easily solved with a hat or some sunglasses. If you haven't been to this vineyard, it is a must see! And there are several other vineyards in the area so that you can visit a few in one day. They participate in both the CT wine trail passport program and the coastal passport program that spans through CT, RI and MA. read more

Beautiful vineyard, but wine tasted watery. We came a little over an hour before closing at 3pm on a Saturday to enjoy some wine, but our experience was subpar because they were setting up for a wedding that was starting later that evening. Staff were fully setting up for the reception and we were asked to leave at 3pm sharp. The bridal party was at the winery as well preparing for the ceremony. Just felt a bit odd to have regular guests and a wedding so close together. I'm sure the winery is more relaxing during the week day! read more

Saltwater farm is a serene place located conveniently off route 1A. The grounds are gorgeous lush green and it overlooks a salt water pond. I love that there's an upstairs bar with large open windows and even a deck that overlooks the whole winery. There are Adirondack chairs and picnic tables on the lawn. It's bring your own food. They do have cheese to purchase if you forget (how can you forget snacks??). The wine was good, more in the expensive side. Most are $8-10 per glass and $25-30 a bottle. read more
