We loved Salty Toad for a few years but recently started going because of the bands starting at 5pm on Saturdays . . . and good bands - the owner is friendly and fun and sometimes sings with the bands because she can and she's good! The pulled pork is a good sandwich and the fish fry is great . . . good, nice people with a lively atmosphere - all ages of patrons . . . good drinks but sometimes a little slow in getting to us cuz the tenders like to visit with the customers . . .which is ok when it's me!!!!!! Friday Night Live participant with outdoor music when weather permits and patio to bring your plastic cup drinks outside. FNL every Friday first Friday in June to last Friday in August is awesome for bands at many local Waukesha downtown locations! Mostly outside. Went out for a few drinks with friends, when we arrived I went to the bar for a drink and the bartender said "no" and wouldn't serve me. However I will mention that the weekends do get pretty crazy, as the local colleges draw in a lot of activity...all good of course. Was invited to join for wings night and figured why not give them a try. Honestly had never heard of Salty Toad so no clue what to expect going in. It was a typical bar set up, lots of space for it to fill up. We hung out up by the second bar area and had the area to ourselves. I got the chicken tenders and my husband went all in on the wings. He liked them well enough in all the variations he had. I thought my tenders were very standard as well. We hung out and played darts and enjoyed our time. The place wasn't hopping but it was a weeknight and I wouldn't expect it to be especially given it was over the summer, so none of the college folks would be out and about. read more

This place used to be pretty cool...Unfortunately, they started catering to a younger, irresponsible crowd and that's where they make their money. The place is incredibly filthy and it feels like you're walking into something you shouldn't. It's always very loud and there's always a gigantic mass of incredibly drunk individuals. I sometimes question if bartenders know when to cut people off, but hey, it's the Salty Toad. Now that I'm past my mid-twenties, this place is not attractive to go to any longer. Not even a one star bar! I wish Jon Taffer from Bar Rescue came into this place and tore the owner and the staff a new one. I've lived in Waukesha for 4 years and probably have gone to the Toad 5-6 times total. I went tonight with my buddy and we were there only 5 mins before getting kicked out after the rude unprofessional bartender "rang the bell" and kicked out my friend and I after I tried to order a Corona and wasn't fast enough to give him the money. They kept my $20.00 bill and I never got my Beer. The bouncers proceeded to act like "tough guys " and kicked us out because their A-hole inexperienced bartender was a Jerk. Great prices, friendly staff, terrible DJ. This place would be a solid 5 stars if they got rid of their DJ and just put on a Spotify playlist. That guy has ruined the vibe on the dance floor multiple times trying to do transitions or whatever, but failing miserably. For example last weekend the entire dance floor was wiggle'n and he like cut the music out mid-song, only to pick up back where he cut out a few seconds later. Stopped last night with friends after a show and had a great time. One of the owners came over and chatted us up, a very nice women who seemed to really care about her business and customers. The drinks were reasonably priced, the bar had a college bar feel to it and we really had a great time. For those that posted some of the earlier reviews about the place being dirty of not what they were looking for I might suggest you go to Chili's or an over priced wine bar. Wish I could give this bar a zero. It's dirty. The music is awful. The owner is high and drunk and work. Honestly a child could run a bar better. I've never been to a bar where the dance floor is dead and empty at midnight, 1 am. Whenever. Atmosphere isn't fun. So many other bars in the area that are better. Awful. The bouncers are the worst, treating customers awfully. They seem to think a green to short saying security makes them FBI agents. Incredibly rude to large groups of people. This bar is so disgusting! It's so dirty and smells really bad. They let in people that are under age. Apparently the bartenders don't know when to cut people off but I guess they don't care and want their money. The bartenders can't keep up with the service let alone pick up any empty cups or wipe down the tables. The chairs are either broken or dirty so there is no place to sit. Skip this spot. Stopped in several times this fall with friends, and it was fine for a drink, but we were never impressed. It was always very noisy, kind of dirty (especially the bathrooms), and the staff wasn't particularly nice. Several of us ordered Spotted Cows from the tap and thought they smelled weird, so I'd recommend getting bottles instead. Salty Toad is fine, but if you're looking for a casual drinks spot in downtown Waukesha, I'd definitely choose Bernie's Tap Room or The Lucky Rabbit instead. read more

I've been to this bar numerous times. Tonight, I was thrown out by a bouncer claiming I stole a plastic Miller Lite cup. I had nothing in my pockets nor anywhere to put said cup. Then the bouncer also claimed my girl friend put a plastic cup in her purse. Her purse was searched and no cup was found. Mind you, they threw out three of our paid drinks while kicking me out. A cool bar run by some really nice people! They always have a good special going on. I ususally go there on Wednesday nights for "Wing Night". $10 gets you 20 wings and a pitcher of beer. You can't beat that! The wings are really good and the "chippers" are amazing. Highly recommended! read more

The Salty Toad is by far the WORST bar I have ever been to in my entire life! Their staff is HORRIBLE (to say the least) I've never been treated so poorly in my entire life!! After legitimately waiting at the bar for 30 minutes for a drink (while watching a bartender pour himself 3 shots and take them) I was treated SOOOOOOO rudely, then told "I cant serve drinks, only shots and I wont sell anything anymore" With a full bar at 1:35. I asked him to let me know how I could get in contact with the owner and he told me verbatim "Go walk around the bar and ask for him" I then said "I thought you said he wasn't here?!" he told me again "he isn't" So I again said "so how am I supposed to get in contact with him??" I was told "it's not my problem.. figure it out" I tried to give you a chance, time after time and you ALWAYS fail me! Ordered honey barbeque wings and waited 30 minutes for my food and later found out they did not have any honey barbeque sauce for my wings after I had already paid and waited for my dinner. I would give the Salty Toad a 2.5, but I bumped it up to 3 because of the extremely good drink specials they have. One night they had Long Island Iced Teas for 3 bucks! I also gave it a star because they play some good music and people dance on the weekends. I hate the decor, and the bar attracts some very interesting clientele. To be fair, it isn't downtown Milwaukee or Chicago. I would say the group consists of a lot of older locals (50+) and young people from Carroll College or who never left home. Cheap Drinks, good Music, the staff has always been friendly and fun. It takes a while to get a drink on really busy nights i.e. Friday and Saturday nights, but there is a smaller bar right by the dancefloor that you can go to if the other bar is busy. The crowd is younger, 21-25-ish with a few older people here and there. Bathrooms need updating. I'm not sure about the review below, but I've never waited more than 10 min. for a drink if that. I would not recommend this bar to any one, it is a particularly poor representation of Waukesha. First of all, let me start with the service. There are some nights you'll be standing around for 20minutes to get a drink which is understandable when the rush hits. But not at slow times, and the owner and one of the bartenders are standing in front of you taking shots and enjoying themselves (behind the bar) then proceed to go help somebody else. There's no excuse for that. This is something that happens regularly. Just get there at 8-9pm. I thought this was the ultimate representation of their mediocrity until I tried the "strong islands" or any shots, anything not a sealed drink. The shots have to be 75% water, not to mention the occasional fruit fly you'll find in the bottles they tip up if you pay attention. And the strong islands are a pre mixed drink that sit in orange cooler dispensers for what I'm told up to two weeks? That's disgusting. I have no idea how often they are cleaned, nobody will tell me. But I had two of their strong islands one night and became immediately ill. I will NEVER try that again. Especially after the first attempt at buying one over the summer there was a dead bug floating in it and I decided not to bother. Why bother with this place? They clearly put profit before sanitation and their own good time before yours. read more
