I submitted my Lumnox Navy Seal watch for repair. I obtained the link to Saltzmans Watched from the official Luminox website. I dispatched the watch via UPS and paid the $35 fee for shipping and assessment. The only required repairs were a battery replacement, band replacement, and inspection. I did not receive any confirmation regarding the watch's arrival. After contacting the store via email, I received a response. Subsequently, I received a message indicating that my watch was too old and could not be repaired. I had only requested a battery replacement, but they informed me that they could not open the watch. No email or message inquired if it was acceptable to replace the battery without guaranteeing water resistance after the repair. After several emails and no response, I had to contact the store. I was informed that the watch would be returned without a new battery. I could have saved over a month of time by visiting a local store and having the battery replaced in approximately two hours. However, I believed this was the most appropriate place for this significant watch to be repaired. The sole reason this review does not receive a one-star rating is that I received a refund for the $35. However, upon receiving the watch, I discovered that the band was broken. I can assure you that it was not damaged during transit. Additionally, I found another review of a watch that was returned with a broken band. I strongly advise against sending your watch to this store. Instead, shop locally and have repairs performed. At the very least, there will be some communication. I understand that this is an older watch and may not have significant monetary value. However, it holds sentimental value for me, and to have the watch and myself treated this way is unacceptable. read more

As the official service center for Mathey Tissot in the USA, I mailed two of my quartzes to Saltzman's for repair and refurbishment. One watch needed a new crystal, and one needed a new bezel and crystal. I found the center to be extremely professional and transparent and the watches came back looking like they were brand new. (They also replaced battery, seals, etc.). The repair shipping cost also matched their written estimate to the penny. OMG stay away from these people. What a rip off! I even wrote to LUMINOX and did not receive a reply. Here's the story ........ my Luminox watch stopped and we changed the battery and still nothing. i wrote to Luminox and they recommended sending it to Saltzmans Watches More in Cranston, RI. they charged me $40 to "evaluate" the watch and responded by telling me it required a "complete overhaul" and replacement of the movement for $140. I rejected the service and another $20 to return my watch. On a hunch I took the watch to a local jeweler they replaced the battery and my watch is working perfectly. The vibe I got during a repair completed by Saltzman's Watches was they don't seem very interested in repairing watches like the Luminox Navy Seal I sent them. I base this on a lack of unsolicited updates I received from their staff and a failure to reply to my message to them, with a photo, of the broken band they returned to me. They fixed the watch a little outside of the expected time (around 11 weeks compared to quoted 8 weeks), did a complete repair, but returned it with a broken band. I did not ship it with a broken band. Perhaps Saltzman's believes this watch is beneath their attention. I buy Luminox Navy Seal watches usually every 4-5 years. I work a lot with my hands, in many conditions, plus I'm a backpacker. These watches hit a sweet spot of durability, varied condition usefulness, and time-keeping accuracy for me for an everyday watch. I usually pay in the $275-$350 range per watch. I have a collection of 6-8 nonworking Luminox watches. As should be clear, I'm a fairly loyal buyer of this brand. I sent my watch to Saltzman's because Luminox directed me there. Saltzman's fixed it at a slightly higher price than quoted ($181.98 versus $75). Granted this was based on an unexpected case replacement (charged $67.30 for this) but I didn't expect the $35 handling charge. I'm someone who tries to reduce my waste footprint by repairing anything I can. I am quite willing to pay extra for appliances and other purchases based on whether I can repair, or have repaired, the purchase. I seek out brands (Sebo vacuum cleaners, the old Baratza grinders, etc.) based on an ethos of "repair rather than landfill". I was hoping this was the case with my Luminox Navy Seal watches. Saltzman's doesn't seem to be the right vendor for this sort of solution. read more

I contacted Saltzman's because Luminox watch company told me that they would be able to help me find out the correct size of the back case screws and the back gasket. I was told by Sue Boufford that they couldn't provide that information and I should send my watch in to have it serviced. Years ago I sent my watch to them to have the minute hand fixed. I was quoted a price but they contacted me with more issues that would cost more then the watch was worth. When I received it back two of the tritium tubes were broken . Saltzman watches is a horrible greedy company. I would highly recommend not doing business with them. I wish I could give them MORE than 5 stars!!!! After visiting 4 watch repair shops to see if the battery on my ceramic watch could be replaced I ended up at Saltzman's Watches as a last resort. Previously all the watch experts I visited told me it would be: 1) impossible 2) very expensive, 3) no guarantee that the watch case could be put back together. They told me the screws were all stripped, and they had no way to tap them and some of the screws were missing and irreplaceable. Well, Saltzman's proved them all wrong. They not only fixed the stripped screw holes and added new screws but told me my $14.00 battery would be free next time I needed another one. I realize that a business needs to make money, but goodness good golly, tricking people out of their money doesn't sound very nice. Call me old fashioned, but isn't honesty important? So, here's the story, I have a Luminox Watch. It needed a new crystal. Like an astute and conscientious citizen, I looked on the Luminox website and they said to "Send it to Saltzman's!" I did. They repaired what I needed. Great! But, they hit me with the mandatory $55 battery replacement fee. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Gee, they'll have the watch apart already and all they have to do is pop in that little $.75 battery. That seems a little absurd." I agree, but i held my tongue and I paid it because I wanted my watch crystal fixed. Fast forward a month....I received my watch back. Nice, it looks good. I put it on my wrist and, low and behold, it won't keep time. Darn it! So, I called up the Luminox recommended watch repair guy, Mr Saltzman and told him all about my problem. He told me, just send it in! We'll have a look. Just to verify, I sent an email and low and behold #EvanSaltzman, the Evan Saltzman, president of the company replied to my email! What a lucky guy I am. Great service, nice personal touch...it appeared. Mr Evan Saltzman told me that they guarantee their work and send it his way. I held my tongue about another shipping charge to get it there and took out my trusty pocket book, and paid the shipping to have it sent back. Oh no! New absurd price quote. I called old Mr. Saltzman back and the customer service lady, speaking for Mr Saltzman, said, "Oooh, ya, we're going to have to overhaul it." Now I thought, well dang, what a strange coincidence that it quit working after you had it last. So, doing my due diligence, I asked my old pal, via the only person I could contact - lady on the phone - what was wrong with the watch? Saltzman: "It doesn't work." Me: "I know. That's why I sent it to you. WHY doesn't it work?" Saltzman: "I don't know. Pay me and I'll look at it and find out." Me: "Why didn't you tell me that the first time I called you so I knew what I was in for before I sent it in?" Saltzman: "I had to look at it first." Me: "You just told me I had to pay you for you to look at it." And so the doublespeak continued. Goodness, I thought that was just the stuff of literature, not reality! "Mr Saltzman, send me my watch back!" -"That will be $15 for shipping." Goodness gracious, you crook! Keep it out. Out of principle! -"Okay, okay, let me check with my supervisor....I won't charge you again for shipping." Don't go to Saltzman's! TAKE YOUR WATCH TO YOUR LOCAL REPAIR MAN AND SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE! Support small business where the customer matters and a warrantee means something more than, and I quote, "that's just a coincidence that it quit working after we took it apart and sent it back to you." I live in Va Beach Va ..home of seal team 6 ..ergo I buy Luminox watches I have MANY..One i think is in warranty period, so I go to the Factory luminox site and find where to send my 6 watches...$5.90 is what the cost was USPS from Va Beach to Craston RI.. a week later I call where and what with my watches..updating the computer system..estimates will B coming shortly.. finally all the estimates arrive..16teen email for 6 watches ?? the one watch that is in the warranty TIME frame ...is not Covered for I of 4 reasons..crap ... ok let's get the totals for my 6 watches ..OMG $1050.00 included is $120.00 to ship my watches back to Va Beach Now because the watches repair cost out-weighs the value of the watches Saltzman's get to keep MY watches ..ar ZERO cost what a windfall for them...GREAT way to have used inventory of USED watches..just overprice the repairs and the shipping and ergo..new revenue stream with little or NO COST... what a crock sadly Mike Blais read more

A very genial employee changed the battery in my watch for a reasonable $14 and provided a three year warrantee - and changed the battery on the spot. The selection of watches was large, but more interesting to me were the two repair technicians working in the back. If I had a very nice watch needing service, this is where I would go. Granted my service was simple on my Mvmt watch but they completed it with aplomb. read more

I took an over 30 yr old 14k watch into for repair. staff quickly repaired by replacing the battery, but also needed to replace other components to be able to change the band. staff was very patient, excellent customer service, and worked diligently getting my watch back into great functioning and wearable condition. My +20year old Luminox needed cleaning and a new seal. As an authorized repair center I chose Saltzman's and sent the watch with their form. Silent after 2 weeks I called for an update. At first I was told "Let me see if I can find it". Not very reassuring. Next I was told they did not have the parts to fix it and guarantee the repair so it was not even opened for inspection. They could only send it back at additional cost. This very poor service for a supposedly "high end" watch store. I'm very disappointed and still waiting for my watch to be returned. read more

I have been coming here for years with no issues. Today however i had to have a watch band replaced, that i purchased here less than one month ago, because the fake leather finish came seperated from the band in two seperate areas. This is clearly a manufacturer defect, however I was charged full price for the replacement band. I was told the exterior components of the watch cannot be warranted and the excuse was that i could of picked at it to cause this! Yes this is what i want to do is pick at the band so i have go back to your store on my lunch break to get a brand new band replaced again. This policy must be reviewed! read more

Challenging watchmakers to convert a quartz movement to an automatic is a tricky affair. Evan and the folks at Saltzsmans made a great effort and expended a lot of time but to no avail. I was kept aware of the process and difficulties, that, in the end, could not be achieved. However, I did have some other custom work done on this piece and of course, it was spot on. I was charged only for this work and refunded immediately for the balance. Many other watchmakers would not return the balance due charging for their time and effort. But Saltzman's is all about results. This is why I keep coming back for basic work, repairs, and other services. Trust is a big factor when turning over an object with personal meaning to strangers, especially 3 states away. Yet with Saltzman's, I know my watches are treated with the care and professionalism I've come to appreciate and respect. read more

I've been getting all my battery replacements here (I have several quartz watches) and have always been very happy with the service. Price is completely reasonable and the work is guaranteed--I forget how long the guarantee period is, but it's a nice feature nonetheless, and they keep your service records in their system which is handy. They're perfectly friendly--in a workmanlike, Rhode Island kind of way. So, while I can't speak to any other aspect, no complaints from me. read more

I sent my Luminox watch in to get the crystal replaced. I was told I needed a new crystal, new rotating bezel and a whole new movement. So that equals about $200 for a $300 watch. They are the only authorized repair shop. I was also told I would need to pay $15 to ship back to me. It cost less then $3 to ship it to them. Do they can make $12 on 4" of packing tape and 2 minutes of there time. Good reason not to in a Luminox watch. read more

Three months after receiving my Luminox 1830 watch as a gift from my mom, the stopwatch would not reset, so I thought no biggie, it still tells time. Then after a few years it stopped working altogether . I looked up who fixes this brand of watch and found Saltzman, the estimate was a little higher then I thought it would be , and after reading some the reviews on here I was somewhat worried. I must say they did a very nice job repairing my watch, and had it returned to me in a timely manner. After reviewing the paperwork and seeing the amount of tests along with the repairs done , it's my thought that the price is fair. I've had multiple Luminox watches serviced through this shop over a period of ten years. The customer service has always been exceptional. Great shipping & receiving department, ans well as CS dept as well. I have also chatted with Evan on my watch forum. Very helpful with my questions.... I don't understand the comments about bad CS. I have called multiple times over the years with no problems. Sometimes, it is hard to get a hold of people, however perhaps they might be busy. Initially my watch needed numerous repairs that were completed for free through warranty handled with Saltzman's. PRICING: They are good and cheapest as far as I have found on higher end watches that you have to order. I delt with Jeff Davis by email and he got me a great price. They seem to be aware that anyone can call around the nation and price a watch and they beat the best that I found (and I looked for years- Glycine Airman). SERVICE: The service is proficient and in demand. Yes, some of the comments that you need to follow up are true, but I found immediate respect and response once i got a hold of someone. Top notch service and discounts if you ask. Many of those giving bad ratings here don't understand that expensive watches actually have to be maintained and serviced, just like expensive cars. Blaming the store for that reality only reflect on the ignorance of the customer. I recently had an expensive Tag watched service by Saltzman. They did an outstaying job, despite the fact that Tag's service center screwed the watch up beyond belief. I wa so pleased that I took my nine year old Luminox in for a new face and hands (the luminescent vessels were slightly dimming). They have me a reasonable quote. It turned out that the new face and hands in my color (yellow) wouldn't fit my case, so they gave me a new case for free. Because every overall includes a new battery, they have me full credit for the battery they installed in that same watch a month prior. Due to my positive experience with both watched, I decided to purchase a new Luminox from their showcase. I got a nice discount on that. They also swapped bands for me at no cost because I didn't like the band the watch came with. Note: I've dealt directly with the Newport store. I'm a "perfectionist" mechanical design engineer who pays attention to the smallest of details. Having said all of this, don't sell yourself short by not visiting this store. read more

BEWARE! I would leave a zero if possible. Contacted them about replacing a crystal on my Luminox watch since they are the official repair shop. I said I only needed the crystal changed since it broke within 2 days of owning the watch when I fell on a trail run. They let me know the price range ($18-$45) and I sent them my watch. After their inspection, they said I needed to spend $170 to repair and return a $200 watch. I told them I didn't want a complete service ($95) or a new dial ($42) and just wanted the crystal replaced ($18) and shipping ($15). They said they would not do that and I had to pay the $15 to get the watch returned. Very disappointing! read more
