I've been taking my 2 Tag watches to Bob at Watchworks for about 15 years now and I couldn't be happier with the services here. I found him after a local jeweler changed my battery and gave me back my watch with a loose dial that they had to send out to be fixed (thankfully on their dime). Most of the time I've just had my batteries changed but I've also had a few repairs (broken crown, ratchets, pins) over the years and everything is always fixed perfectly and punctually. He even came in on a Sunday to get my watch back to me without me even asking. The owner is highly knowledgeable and is passionate about timepieces and this comes through in his work. I left a vintage Rolex with Robert after Rolex declined servicing the watch. It was my dad's watch from 1955. He returned the watch completely refurbished and pressure tested. All original parts included. He used all original Rolex parts. I was thrilled with the meticulous attention he gave my father's watch which will now go to my son upon graduation from law school! Bob went above and beyond to bring me a successful overhaul and rebuild of my 10-year-old beloved, second generation orange monster. I paid $147.00 for this watch when it was new since being discontinued used value is almost $1500.00. I brought the watch to Bob originally because it would not stay running from the automatic winding feature upon wearing it just a manual crown wind worked to keep the watch running. I previously had an overhaul done at five years with a subpar watchmaker located on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston (stay far away from them). Upon dropping my SEIKO off to Bob, he took off the case back in front of me and immediately showed me fingerprints and broken parts from the first overhaul. Bob had to order new parts from my movement including the Pawl assembly, and fork from the previous watchmaker even had the marks where they tried to straighten it out instead of buying a new pre the first time. If you want your watch overhauled and rebuilt correctly the first time seek out this shop you won't be disappointed, you get what you pay for! Side bar for the previous reviews, citing political beliefs as a reason to stay away if you had the top heart surgeon in Boston working on you or were to give you an operation would you care what his political beliefs were? I think not! Also, I will say if Bob is a conservative like I am, then I agree with his political beliefs. If there's one thing we all have in common no matter what, we all value our ticking time! Bob even noticed where the paint was worn off on the diver's bezel and filled it all in. The polish of the bracelet and ultrasonic cleaning wasn't necessary as I favor patina. As a gentleman who's worked from hospitality to heavy equipment repair Bob is a true watchmaker and the last of a dying breed, if you've been so fortunate to have your heirloom family watch or priceless timepiece worked on by this man you'll be thankful in the long run. Even though my SEIKO is just a "poor man's Rolex" it means something to me Bob understands that, and all of the adventures we've been on. I've never gotten so many compliments and questions when people get a glimpse of my Orange Monster no matter what's on their wrist they always want one. read more

I brought an antique clock that he said could not be fixed for under 6 to $800. I had it fixed for about 100 and $20 and that was 6 years ago. I brought another antique pocket watch to him. Robert said it wasn't worth it and the watch was junk. I brought it to Florida and got it repaired very reasonably. And I didn't have to listen to his extremely far right wing politics. I collect vintage Sport Watches form the 50s-80s. Robert, the watchmaker and owner, is highly knowledgeable and skilled, and particularly competent with classic Rolex, Tudor, and Omega. I usually need to send my vintage watches to places in NH or to LA. I have been trying to find someone local and most of my experiences have been less than acceptable at other known area watch repair places, resulting in bent dials, hands falling off, and keeping poor time after service. Almost anyone can replace a battery on a Quartz but who can you trust to overhaul and service a Classic Rolex Sub or Omega Speedmaster from before humans left footprints on the moon? Made Repair to Rolex Robert was great to work with. My twelve year old Submariner had stopped working. This watch was worn daily, since purchased. It had been almost a year before I decided to bring it to Watchworks. I really didn't want to bring it to a large mall chain store and have it shipped out of state to be repaired. I wanted the work done locally, so if I had any questions I could speak to the actual person that performed the work. The work repair was completed in the time frame I was given, The watch looked and works like the day I bought it. I've been coming to see Robert and WatchWorks for years and he's never let me down. This time, however, I happened to "open the door" with a friendly, innocent (read, non-judgemental, non-political, non-biased) comment about some Senate hearings he was listening to. At that he launched into a ten minute (no, literally,. 10min!) xenophobic, racist, misogynistic, sexist, hate rant from which I actually had to back away from. Maybe it was a bad day for him, maybe there's some history I'm unaware of, but somewhere along the line (maybe after the first 'accidental' slur or expletive) one should recognize that the tirade was way, way WAY beyond the line of decency. Hey, we're all entitled to our opinions, but there's a point at which one 'crosses a line' and it's just plain wrong - he did. That said, my business line was trampled as well and I just can't support a business with those extreme views. read more

I went here for a watch battery. It was 15 dollars which is probably the standard price for a replacement including installation, setting all the date, and other dials and cleaning and checking the mechanics. The owner knows a lot about watches and clocks and he's very interested in clocks and time pieces. The only drawback is he doesn't accept credit cards, but I would recommend his shop. read more

I dropped off two Rolex watches that are both 20 plus years old and when I got them back they both looked brand new out of the showcase. The only good thing I can say about this shop is that my watch, which I brought in for a band adjustment, was adjusted. Although it was not to the adjustment that I was comfortable with, but one the owner was. The cost to take these links out for approximately 10 minutes of work - $20.. I've since found out most repair places charge $5 to $10 for this service. The owner is rude and obnoxious, and the entire time I was in his store, I was subjected to the very loud conversation, between him and another person in his back room, about the virtues of how wonderful it will be when Donald Trump is President, not to mention other political opinions that I not only disagree with, but find downright scary. I could not wait to get out of there. I will never go in this shop again, but will take my business to Bradford Jewelers (1903 Mineral Spring Ave.), as the owner there readjusted my watch to what I wanted. read more

When I came into the store, the owner was talking politics with someone else in an offensive and obscene manner. The entry of a new customer didn't stop him at all and he continued his conversation as if I wasn't there. He was so caught up with his tirades that he installed my watch band backwards (which he reinstalled when I pointed this out). Aside from being grossly offended by his politics, I was offended by his total disregard and lack of concern for my comfort. Perhaps he didn't care. My husband and I took his high end gold watch to be cleaned and have the gold band resurfaced. The watch looked and ran like new after Robert completed his highly skilled work. I went into watch works today because I had four watches that needed new batteries and one 1880s gold pocket watch that had several issues. I told Robert that I was going to sell them all and needed them to be in working condition before I place them on eBay. He put in batteries and tuned up the four wrist watches and he told me that the cost of repairing the pocket watch would be very close to the value of the pocket watch in its present condition and that I probably wouldn't realize my investment in having it fixed. The price for the battery replacement and tuning was more than fair and his advice on how to proceed with the pocket watch was invaluable! Because we are both the kind of people who chat with strangers, I was there for quite a while. This gave me an opportunity to watch his interactions with several customers. When a gentleman came in with a very expensive watch (several thousand dollars) that was not working, Robert took it apart right at the counter and he enumerated several issues with the watch, quoted the cost of the parts needed for repairs and recommended that he not have it fixed unless it had sentimental value. Several people came in with what I would consider to be less expensive wrist watches. One lady came in with an Ann Klein watch... it was missing a gasket, the face was misaligned, wasn't running, etc. etc. etc. and the lady said she thought she needed a battery. Robert found that the problem was not the battery and fixed it all for her for less than the cost of a battery. Another came in with the workings of a wall clock that Robert inspected and determined that it was Japanese. Because he could not get parts to fix it, he referred him to someone who could retool the post screw and provide a matching bolt that hold the hands to a smaller diameter. Because I had this opportunity to watch him work, I can attest to his knowledge and expertise to some degree. He is amazing at what he does! Robert is certainly thorough. I had brought my Swiss Army pocket watch to a jewelers when it started losing time. Their answer was to change the battery. So for a while I had a timepiece with a new battery losing minutes daily. Robert took my watch to the backroom to work his magic. Loose screw here, spot of oxidation here, other stuff over here, new battery (dated so he would know when he changed the battery). I brought in my grandmas watch for a new battery and the man at the counter assessed it right away - age, brand and style - and told me all he was going to do including tightening the clasp, cleaning the back and putting in his initials and he would do it right away within 15 minutes. Today I have a sophisticated gimbal assembly that needs some stripped screws removed, and while reading the reviews here, I thought I'd include my experience with the owner of this establishment. I'm an antique dealer, and a few years ago at this exact time in the summer, I went into this shop to inquire about buying winding keys for two old clocks that I was planning to sell. He quoted prices that were several times higher than what I would pay on ebay for the same type of key, and then he asked what kinds of clocks they were. One was a brass ship's clock, with a nautical chiming pattern, and the other was a marble mantle clock, which also chimed. When he asked where I came into possession of such clocks, I told him that I got one at an auction, and the other came from an estate sale. His response was shocking:-- he said he would never do business with the likes of us, called our professions one of jackals, and finished the party by calling me an asshole. On the way out, I remarked about his rudeness. Pigs are rude, and when I see other accounts of people who have been treated similarly, I felt it appropriate to relate my own experience here. I had a Breitling watch that needed repair, and sent that one to New York rather than set foot in this place again. I'm surprised he's still in business-- and I'll be sure to attend his bankruptcy sale when the time comes. read more
