Service was excellent. The waitress said she has been there 10 years and the cook 20. It appears pride of ownership with good care of employees. Really wanted to enjoy this place, with it being so close to home. Reviews seemed good so we gave it a shot. Never again. My chicken was very overcooked to the point it was rubbery and inedible. The Marsala sauce tasted nothing of Marsala, but only of garlic. There was SO much garlic in the food, large chunks throughout the entire meal. And I love garlic, but this was incredibly too much. The potatoes tasted as if they were made that morning and kept in a container before being microwaved and served to me. The Parmesan tastes and looks like the fake Kraft sawdust crap... very disappointing. You can get better "Italian" food down the road at Olive Garden for the same price. Building is also pretty small, making seating extremely cramped and uncomfortable. On the plus side, our wait staff was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions. Loved Firenze's eggplant parm but of course that's gone. So I found an eggplant parm here. It was pretty expensive in my opinion, especially for the quality. It was stacked about 3" thick and was mushy and soggy. Pasta was decent. Salad was mostly brown lettuce. I was blown away that I can spend over $20 on a dish and the lettuce is that obviously past its prime. Love the food here. I took my family Sunday feb 25, 2024 to celebrate my brothers birthday. I had a reservation for 12 that turned to 15. The staff was really cool about it. We said on the outdoor patio. It was closed off and very warm. I really appreciate all the heater that were out there and it was pretty quiet and a private. You could see outside and you could see inside the restaurant. Our waitress was also the bartender so that was an issue because most of the time she was at the bar. They had plenty of staff and even put another party out there by us with a different server. I didn't like that because we had a lot of drinks and it took too long to come take our order. Over an hour to be exact. The drinks and food were good. No one had any complaints. The food came out really fast! I wanted steak so i ordered the filletto diana med. it reminded me of eating roast beef so i was disappointed. Though, everything i ordered was flavored. With my partner, i shared the bruschetta, and brownie. I really loved the salad with salmon! This was our first time at this location and i'll be back. Always get the creamy Romano dressing. Trust me on this one! I have been coming to SS since I was in high school when I lived up in flint! So glad there are closer spots by the house. I am a huge fan of the pasta Mezzogiorno so I always get it with sausage. I swear next time I will try something new! My husband could eat a whole loaf of bread with the Romano cheese in oil, no lie! This particular location of Salvatore Scallopini definitely has a special place in my heart because I have been going here for as long as I can remember- being my family's go-to for a birthday or afternoon lunch. Never have had a bad meal or an issue here. Staff has a low turnover and always been wonderful. Place is clean. Parking is very easy. When I visited here most recently, I noticed that they made renovations on the inside & back patio, which look great- I would love to eat outside when I visit next. Although I have tried & loved many things, Some of my current favorites here are the pasta del estate, minestrone soup, and calamari. Gnocchi & meatballs are also delicious. Back when I was having dairy more, the alfredo sauce from here was the best I have ever had. Everything is very fresh and portion sizes are great as well. Came here on a Wednesday evening for dinner with a friend. The restaurant was empty besides a couple of tables with people. We were able to seat ourselves. We weren't sure how busy it would get and seating is limited, so we regrettably sat at a 2-person table out of consideration for others. We struggled to have room for our plates. As other people came to eat in the restaurant, we witnessed other 2 party guests opt out of sitting at the 2-person tables due to lack of space. Can't blame them, but it could cause problems for the restaurant if larger parties came in and had nowhere to sit. The restaurant looked and smelled clean inside, which I always appreciate. Decor was nice. Had a view of the cooks so could see that meals were made fresh to order. Our waitress was very friendly and appropriately attentive. The food and drinks are expensive for the quality, in my opinion. My friend got the lasagna and I got the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken (for $5 extra). The fettuccini Alfredo sans chicken was already $18. I had a Moscow mule, which wasn't that great. My friend had wine, which had a couple weird clumps in it that neither of us had seen in wine before (but we aren't wine experts so maybe that's normal?). We got the choice of soup or salad with the entree so I got a salad. It was literally a pile of iceberg lettuce, some chickpeas, and three cherry tomatoes. Quite disappointing. My food was just okay. There wasn't an abundance of flavor. It was nothing to write home about. My friend said the same about her lasagna but she did enjoy her wine. They gave free bread at the beginning, which is nice, but ended up deterring us from ordering an appetizer cuz it just would have been too much food for two people. It saved me $13 on my bill, so I'm not mad about it. We shared a brownie sundae for dessert and that was delicious. I ordered a cannoli to go for my boyfriend at home, which he said was good. For my chicken fettuccini Alfredo, a Moscow mule, a brownie sundae, and a cannoli, my bill was over $50 before tip. All in all, I'm in no rush to go back to this place, but wouldn't be opposed to it either if someone else really wanted to go. read more

I went there for the first time ever today. The service was great however not the food so much. I got the lasagna and it tasted like it was leftover from the night before. It was cold on the inside hot on the outside. So i decided to take it home to reheat it and try it. 2 hours after getting home I was sick as crap. Throwing up for over an hour. I had not eaten nothing else that day and felt perfectly fine prior to eating here. 9 hours late and I still feel so sick I will not be returning food Poisoning in not fun. read more

The service was good but the food was absolutely horrendous. The food was burnt and days old, you could tell by just looking at it. We had a few green tea Jamison drinks, their always fresh bread with sauce, excellent soup, and chicken fettuccine Alfredo with extra roasted garlic and extra Alfredo sauce for me! He ordered the pasta Fresca and that was SO GOOD TOO!! Extra capers and add asparagus. It has spinach, onions, tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. My family stumbled upon this place and all four of us fell in love with the shrimp Alfredo fettuccine. It's a bit pricey but worth the money when they have their extra large prawn like shrimp. The last time we ordered it was just as expensive and had average size nothing special shrimp and not that many either! This place was amazing years ago, it was a reliable go to place to grab a great meal. I've been so disappointed the last 6-7 times I've picked up meals. The Spaghetti Carbonara has always been an excellent favorite! Currently, it's made with a few sprinkles of bacon, and "very little" sauce so it's "extremely" dry. Sometimes the cream sauce has actually been more of a butter sauce. I thought they were going through a transition period so I extended an abundance of grace hoping food items would be corrected. I refuse to make any more investments so my most recent visit was my absolute last! read more

Picked up one order each of spaghetti / meatballs and mezzogiorno for a grand total of $44.00 ($50.00 w/tip ) ... The container for the spaghetti was half full ... kinda like what you would put in the fridge after eating for tomorrow and the mezzogiorno was inundated with olive oil to the point where it had to be tipped over in the garbage to get rid of the excess. This is our go to place for a special occasion. It's not outrageously priced. There are several locations in the Metro area. We like the 9 Mile & Gratiot location as it is only a mile from our house. It is small and intimate with outdoor dining in nice weather. For a atmosphere for larger parties the Grosse Pointe location should be considered. read more

Now the food....omg. The food. Delicious! I got the cannelloni and lasagna. I'm fat as fuck and not afraid to admit that I also ate here yesterday. It was so good I had to come back! At first glance it looks like a very high end restaurant. It's chic and modern. The location on gratiot has an outdoor seating area. I'd recommend this restaurant to those looking to go on a date. Went Sunday night at 7pm. No wait. Great food. Fast service. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Boyfriend and I split the shrimp scampi. Portion size after entree split was still huge! Awesome amount of food for the price. Shrimp was cooked perfectly, greens beans were super fresh, and the salad was delicious! Went with Hubs for our Friday night date night, will make this a more regular spot for sure! You really cannot beat the value of this place. Fresh pasta makes all the difference. I tried the meatballs this time, with pasta and meat sauce. So good. That sauce was thick, meaty and well seasoned. Meatballs were tender and seasoned. Pasta was perfect! Hubs had chicken tosca. The chicken was so tender he could cut it with his fork. Two good size breast with a side of pasta. He said it was one of his most satisfying meals he has had in a long time! Both meals came with soup or salad, we had salad. I would love to try their soups, but the homemade dressings are really hard to pass up. We don't normally get dessert, but they have homemade cream puffs, covered in a light chocolate mouse. Very delish, but didn't feel heavy! All in all we had two great meals (Me leaving with left overs), with salad, dessert, and two beers on our tab and it was UNDER $50!!!! For fresh high quality food! The service is very friendly and welcoming. I called to make a reservation for three and was told that they only do reservations for +5 people and that I should easily be able to get a table. So we get there and its a 20 minute wait and there is absolutely no place to sit and wait. So we stood in the doorway and opened the door for people leaving. We noticed inside that there was 3 tables of 2 completely empty and there were several people waiting. The restaurant itself is small and when we finally got a seat I had to continuously move out of the way for the wait staff. We were asked to give our drink order without seeing the menu. When we finally got the dinner menu it was a complete let down. Absolutely no pizza and very few vegetarian options and the overall selection is just not there. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was just so-so. The entree comes with either a salad or soup. I got the salad and took a couple of bites, and put it off to the side. It was a sad excuse for a salad with way too much dressing,chickpeas and small tomatoes. Just a disappointment and will not be returning. read more
