Antonio's is the MVP this Lenten season. My husband loves shellfish and I cannot cook it for him because I'm allergic. We've ordered takeout every Friday to fill his seafood requests. His favorite is the frutti di mare. Our meals are always hot and fresh. Their tiramisu is out of this world. We LOVE the scamorza and mozzarella Fresca. If I'm being honest, I think the apps are better than the meals I've had. But everything else makes up for it. We've sat in twice and done carry out the rest of the time. The service is great. Haven't been here since college. Ordered the stuffed mushroom, house salad, lasagna, sole e limone, salmon Caprese, Vitello Faraone. We got two Caesar salads and two house salad. I asked for a double house salad, but I only ever received one side salad only. The house salad and Caesar salads were okay. The fresh bread is good, chewy. The Vitello, sole and the salmon all came with a side of bolognese pasta. Mom took mine since don't eat ground red meat. The stuffed mushrooms was so-so, bland and mostly tasted like mushy crumbled bread bits inside of the mushroom caps. It was nothing special. We had to ask two times for another basket of bread. The lasagna was decent. The salmon Caprese was okay, a bit salty even without the capers. The sole limon was good for mom. The Vitello faraone was good my step-dad. Traditional Italian restaurant in a real neighborhood. Limited street parking but spaces in the alley just for those who dine there. What stands out is the wonderful service. Bread baskets refilled and drink refilled as needed. Even have our group separate checks. The food is just above average. Calamari appetizer had too much breading but that was the only problem. Everyone took home part of the main course. The lack of dessert caused me to take a star off. Only had a lemon something. This is almost a sin for an Italian restaurant. If I am in the neighborhood and want Italian food, I will stop but will not drive from the west side again. read more

The best veal I have ever had. Pounded thin, I especially liked the veal capri but have tried all of them and they are great. Mussels are wonderful with pasta is also outstanding. We came here for a celebration dinner and overall it was ok. The staff was nice and the food came pretty quick. We were in like the first dining room and it was really dark but nice I guess. The pizza was not what I expected for an Italian restaurant honestly I thought it would be better. My family liked their dishes, they got lasagna, spaghetti and ravioli. Visited Antonio's for the first time in a while. We sat at the bar; the bar area is cozy and has a great vibe. I order the Veal Parmigiana, which was terrific. A very nice comfy cozy neighborhood place. My elderly parents love it. (So do I, but it's not exactly the latest trendy place. ...also, it's The former Sparky Herbert's!) They have outdoor seating, and 2 rooms inside--your choice of fireplace room or bar/tvs. Carolers came in on Christmas when it was festively decorated w lights! Ordered 3 orders of Alfredo, ravioli, and a Caesar salad for take out. One of the Alfredo dishes was awful. The sauce was completely different from the other two. Ordered lasagna. It was less than an inch high with overcooked noodles very little filling and the top smothered with mozzarella. No choice on salad dressing just a vinegary vinegar and oil. Also ordered spaghetti Bolognese which again had overcooked pasta and quite tasteless sauce. On the positive side, the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was cosey. Hadn't eaten here in years & now I know why. By far the worst meal I've had this year. We had 6 dishes & 5/6 had NO SALT whatsoever. Under-seasoning would be an understatement. The pasta fagioli was literally bean water; like they cooked the beans with the pasta & served it with the same water & no seasoning. Ravioli dense & terrible. Meat sauce no flavor & chunky. These people Take Care o' Business like The King, Elvis Presley!!! We recently had our small wedding reception here, and every expectation was exceeded, and in style! Brian began our wonderful experience by being extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating on the phone. He explained about the different options available, all very reasonably priced! His "We'll take care of everything" demeanor soothed my revved-up bride brain, allowing me to actually enjoy the planning process without worry about reception details. When we stopped by to drop off the cake, we met more of the staff and were again impressed with their genuine, friendly ways. The wonderful Beth was a standout! The romantic, intimate feel of the decor is pleasant too. At first a bit sad that they'd taken down the cool retro fabric wallpaper in the main restaurant space, it didn't take long for the new decor to charm me with its dark walls and festive accent lights. The skylit banquet room was another delight with its curved, wood-covered high ceiling, chandeliers, and fun green walls! I arrived with my new husband and entourage earlier than expected, and we found everything beautifully set up and waiting for us. After settling in, Beth and her cohort (I'm sorry honey to have forgotten your name-you were great too!) immediately began taking care of us, graciously seeing to our every need all evening. The food was flavorful, generously portioned and quite delicious-I was proud to have my party dine like this instead of being faced with the whole "normally we have good food but for events we pass off church basement dinner fare" thing, which I've certainly encountered before. We had arranged for my pal Eastside Elvis to pop in and perform as a surprise for our guests, and Antonio's helped make this happen as well. I giddily watched my beloved friends and family grinning and raising glasses as Elvis gyrated before their full bellies, his jeweled jumpsuit a-twinklin'. I smiled at Beth, but she didn't see me as she was busy grabbing dishes and tending to everyone. I'll always feel very grateful to her, Brian, and everyone at Antonio's for all they did to make that evening one of the most wonderful, memorable nights of my life. read more

If it wasn't for Antonio's Scamorza -sweet, lucious, oozingly cheesy Scamorza - I would have never rated it over two stars. Scamorza is an appetizer that can only be described as a savory Italian version of French toast. It consists of layers of battered bread surrounding gooey mozzarella cheese and fried till it's golden and bursting with calorie-laden love. Then, as if that wasn't enough, they top it all off with a lemon, butter and olive sauce. For. Realz. Every other thing we ate - chicken picatta, ravioli, standard pasta, even the ice cream - was pretty average. Good, but average. Service was slow, but friendly. No special presentation on any of the dishes. Decent wine selection. Exceptional Caprese salad. The only thing that would bring me back is that damn Scamorza.... Now please excuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard. read more

I love this little place. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is charming and calm. The dining outside is lovely, and dining inside is cozy. The scamorza is absolutely to die for. When my kids come into town it's one of the things they ask for. I can't find it anywhere else, and I've looked high and low. The Caesar salad is pretty good - and I almost never get it out because I make an incredible Caesar salad at home. And they actually have anchovies if you ask! The calamari is perfect and crispy and not greasy, and the homemade pasta is wonderful. I love the creamy pesto as well as the meat sauce. Also wonderful are the stuffed mushrooms and veal piccata. It used to be that every now and then I would get a dish that was slightly bland, but that hasn't happened in a long while. Very nice neighborhood spot. Give it a try! read more

Enjoyable place, but the red sauce is WAYYYYYYY too sweet, which is disappointing because it's used in the majority of their dishes. It's texture is similar to tomato paste and needs major work. Three meals were OK- one was really bad ( veal) and was not eaten at all- the waitress noticed and asked if it was OK - when we told her it was horrible and not edible she said oh that's too bad We still tipped 20% because we always do -our meal was $300 for 4 - very disappointing wouldn't go back , the waitress should've taken the veal dish off our tab- Was only $26 and might have made the difference about whether we would have returned and givien Antonio's a second try or not but she just didn't seem to care that it was bad, service ok, atmosphere really nice. read more

Great for what it is: a classic Italian family restaurant. Very traditional American Italian food and vibe. Some solid meals on this menu. I love this place! The dining area is very warm and cozy with fabric covering the walls up to the tall ceiling. The staff is sporting white shirts and ties. Everyone is extremely professional and very attentive. Great Italian food at reasonable prices. My favorite dish is the Bouillabaisse. It is a seafood lovers dream. Mussels, Scrod, and Shrimp in a delicious red broth served over a heaping mound of pasta. (My mouth is watering as I write this). Nice bar filled with local eastsiders and a great selection of liquor, beer, and wine. The bar is my new Friday night hangout! Good times! read more

As someone that's married to an Italian, I can say that I have had my fair share of the stuff. If I am going to allow someone else to do the honor of cooking, you must excuse me for having a keen palate. Antonio's is solid. It's smack dab in an area where businesses are shut down around 6pm. As someone that appreciates being able to walk to a decent restaurant from home, I cannot complain. I have only been to this place once and my meal was A-OK. That's why I give it an A-OK rating. I crammed tasty carbs in my belly and I walked away satisfactorily guilty. That is what I come to expect from Italian food. My only reason for not giving it 4-stars is the price point. I'm so perplexed with the 4/5 star reviews. I'm even confused by the 3. This is not good Italian food. I'm going to say it - i would rather go to Olive Garden than this place. The minestrone was tomato sauce with a few veggies in it, really think sauce and way over salted. We ordered the veal parm and meat ravioli to split. I took two bites of the veal parm and couldn't eat any more. No taste. I thought it was just mine until i tried the ravioli. Also, no taste. It was not good. I gave the review 2 stars because the service was fantastic. Needless to say, I left hungry (and crabby). I would suggest Villa over this place any day. read more

My mom and sister had my baby shower here yesterday. It was perfect. The ambiance, the food, the service- all wonderful. We decorated, but honestly, we didn't need to! It was so nice and intimate for my 35 person shower. Salad was hearty, and delicious. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce, wow!!! We had the chicken piccata, it was so good! I really did not enjoy the food here. I ordered the lasagna and honestly it came swimming in very bland sauce. It was better when I covered it in salt and pepper. The Caesar salad was fairly good, but the parmesan cheese tasted odd. Maybe it just wasn't freshly grated. I have a nice block of good parmesan at home and I was missing that delicious nutty flavor. The service was great, and the bread was pretty darn good -- warm, crusty, and flavorful. Maybe I should try another dish? read more
