Reservations definitely no longer needed!! Arrived Saturday night at 715pm in July and was shocked to see all outside tables and half the dining room empty...it started to make sense when the menus were handed to us at our pick of tables. As frequent patrons over the last many summers and even some winter adventures, we were looking forward to our meal, but this is no longer the Salvatore's you remember or read about in the reviews. The menu is about 1/3rd the size it used to be and the interesting different flavors are no longer available. If you want more than your very basic Italian standard fare, you must look to the "specials". The lobster ravioli special, a former favorite, is now "ravioli topped with chunks of lobster meat". Despite the mostly empty house, it took 15 minutes to get water to the table and a server to inquire about drinks. If it weren't for the $25/head charge for making a reservation we would have left before ordering but as it was, we split a drink and an appetizer with a mind to see how the evening progressed. Unfortunately, we left in search of a better option pretty quickly. The prosciutto mozzarella presented nicely, so much so that the table near us asked what we ordered, but sadly the tomatoes were not ripe and the balsamic was barely evident. The meat and cheese were still of the quality we would have expected at Salvatore's but they seem to have lost all of their passion for preparing food and sharing the flavors that excite them. Look elsewhere until you walk by and are pleasantly surprised to see a line out into the road like the old days. read more

Our last night at the island we had dinner here. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. The ambiance was great and so was our waiter. We ordered drinks they were good. For our appetizer we had the lobster ravioli & the Toscana salad which was amazing. For our main course we had the Merluzzo Alla Toscana & the Merluzzo Alla Siciliana Con Pistachio. Absolutely loved that they have squid ink pasta. Ordered the ones with little neck clams in it and it didn't disappoint. The dish was refreshing! We also had the fried calamari and zucchini. Batter was nice and not too oily. Hubby had the ravioli Napolitano with chicken which he enjoyed. Drink was good as well and service was on point. The last restaurant we visited in Martha's Vineyard last fall before we headed back home was Salvatore's Ristorante. I loved how the table had a jar of parmesan cheese. We ordered some cocktails, Italian Watermelon and Italian Berry Mule. Italian Watermelon came with a sizable watermelon wedge, which was awesome. Great drink for a watermelon lover! Berry Mule was fruity with real fruit in there, excellent! For main, I ordered Tagliatelle Salvatore. It is made with House made Pasta with Shrimp, Lobster, and Scallops in a Light Lemon Creamy Sauce. Shrimp was pre-peeled entirely, so I didn't have to fight against its tails. Nice portion, filling and satisfying. My hubby chose Spaghetti Vongole. When this dish came to the table, we gasped with pleasant surprise. The amount of clams were just amazing! It was a great dish for sure. We ordered Bella Italia for dessert. Pistachio flavor was weak compared to the other two. Overall, we loved the dessert, a nice way to end the tasty meal. Staffs were all friendly and polite, we had a really nice dinner here. So glad that the last place we dined was a bit hit! Service was superb. Tamara was our waitress, so attentive, made suggestions, and rechecked our order. Entrees were great, apps good, dessert great. The hostess was NOT welcoming! We had reservations but did not specify indoor seating ( did not realize you had outdoor seating also). She was very condescending in telling us where she wanted to seat us, not listening to why the interior was better suited ( party member with a walker). The wait staff came right over after we were seated to ensure we were satisfied. That was good customer service; but the hostess left us with a bad taste. read more

Let me say first that service was A+++. Very attentive and very knowledgeable. The food however did not live up to expectations. I ordered the special stuffed zucchini blossoms. They were heavily battered and, well, spongy. Not at all crispy. Not even brown. There were some strange markings on them that made me assume that they had been pre-prepared and put on a grate of some sort. The filling however was lovely. Flavorful ricotta with a light lemon taste that was not over powering. Next was the Carbonara which in fairness, I do not order often so admittedly, I am not an expert in Carbonara. But it was very heavy. Pasta was cooked well but not well seasoned. The pancetta was perfectly crispy but the sauce very thick and had a heavy egg yolk taste. Again...maybe this is the way it is supposed to be. And in the end needed salt, or more parm to season. My husband ordered the Arugula salad with lemon dressing which was wonderful! Fresh, and the lemon dressing light and perfectly balanced. Radishes and shaved parm made for a fresh and wonderful salad. Then he had the pesto with Chicken. The pasta was cooked well and very tasty. Pesto was very flavorful, but again, sauce very heavy. I think they must add cream or ricotta to the pesto which made it really dense. The chicken breast was dry. No other way to describe it. Laid on top of the pasta. The common denominator to the all the dishes were that they were enormous. Without question enough for two people. 4 large squash blossoms for an app. Huge bowl of salad. And both pastas, so large, that to be honest, for me, made them unappetizing. And I'm not a small person. Personally, being served that much food is just overwhelming and takes away from the enjoyment of the dish. From my seat, I could see what was coming out of the kitchen (which I love) and everything was jumbo sized. I saw two servings of the seafood pasta come out that could have been put on a table for a family style dinner and served 6-8 people. Not kidding. So in the end, service amazing, but out of 4 dishes, only one would I order again, and would absolutely share. But if you like a lot of pretty good food, this is the place for you. read more

The food was 5 stars and service was 4 so i can give my visit 4.5 starts. I visited Salvatore's with two friends mid June without reservations and we were seated immediately. We received our menus and had to wait a while for water and cocktails. Our waiter came back to ask for our dinner orders before our cocktails were served so we were hardly ready. She returned again right after the drinks were served but we were engaged and enjoying ourselves while sipping on the drinks. once we ordered, our shared appetizer of calamari and zucchini came pretty quickly and we dug in with pleasure. Soon afterwards our entrees arrived and we were all very pleased with our choices. Upon finishing our meals we thought that we could relax with dessert but were handed the bill instead and informed that the kitchen was now closed and desserts were not an option. This was not my first time having dinner at Salvatore's and it will not b my last. A little staff training will definitely help with ratings. We should have been given a heads up that the kitchen was closing or an apologetic reply that desserts were not available due to the closing of the kitchen. A must visit on Martha's Vineyard! Don't get me started on the tiramisu martini, perfect and creamy! The arancini is a must

This is a nice pleasant place to eat, which is hard to find in a tourist town. It is just a block away from the ferry terminal which is an easy destination by boat, bus, or cab. They took reservations which is a big plus for me. Standing around for a half hour waiting for a table is just not my thing. We ate outside which was pleasant and quiet. The service was friendly but less than top notch. I give it 4*s. The wine list was not extensive, but large enough for me to easily find a good choice. $54 for a DOC Montepulciano d' Abruzzo was fine for this level of restaurant in a tourist town. I liked the wine. I ordered Spaghetti Carbonara which I really enjoyed, especially the pancetta. I give this dish 5*s. My wife had Linguini Scampi which had an interesting zingy aftertaste. She liked the zingy taste, but I did not find it pleasing. She gave it 4*s. For dessert, I ordered the tiramisu. It was a large portion, but not impressive in taste. I give it 3.5*s. I would certainly consider going back the next time I'm in town. Yelp lists this restaurant as closed on Tuesdays. They are not (at least in the Summer). read more

The food was very good as usual. Major problem was noise level even in the enclosed area out back. Lots of hard surfaces amplify loud voices. Unfortunately we were seated next to a group celebration. They seemed to be having a great time but seemed to be unable to lower their voices even when asked nicely by another diner to do so. Another suggestion. Please mark the edge of the step out back. Beautiful evening, delicious food and attentive service! This Vineyard restaurant is the perfect spot for date night! Our table was ready upon our arrival, the first cocktail was their signature martini with blue cheese olives, it was cold and delicious! The appetizer and salad came out together and both were delicious. The salad was perfectly dressed and the prosciutto & burrata was the perfect combination of salt and buttery goodness! The entrees were definitely the star of the show! The homemade pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauces added to the flavor but did not overpower the plate. We started with an arugula salad and fried zucchini blossoms. Both were excellent. The squash blossoms were so good I would order them every time! I had the spaghetti carbonara which was tremendous. My wife had the cod with every kind of vegetable imaginable. It was outstanding. For drinks she had a cocktail based on watermelon and I had gin and lavender. .service was perfect. This spot has outdoor and indoor dining options. All of the tables are well spaced due to COVID and everyone is wearing a mask when walking around. They're doing a good job dealing with the pandemic. In terms of food, the lobster ravioli is a MUST. There are huge chunks of lobster within the ravioli and on top of it (as pictured) and the fresh flavor of the ocean shines clearly through. There is a light lemon flavor in the sauce which helps balance the richer lobster flavor and makes the entire dish very refreshing. The duck pappardelle is also insanely amazing. The creamy mushroom sauce is not too heavy and the pieces of duck are very soft and almost melt in the mouth. The pappardelle is very fresh, though I felt that it was a bit thick (though that might just be how pappardelle is!). If you're planning on ordering at least two dishes, I'd definitely recommend getting this and the lobster ravioli and splitting! The tagliatelle ragu (I'm fairly certain this is what my dad ordered -- I've included a picture below for reference) was quite good, but just seemed overshadowed by the other two dishes. This dish didn't stand out too much and tasted pretty much a you'd expect it to. The calamari was very fresh and crunchy. The layer of batter was very thin and brought out the flavor of the squid rather than reminding me of an onion ring. A great start to the entire meal! We visited Martha's Vineyard for only a week and managed to come here TWICE (and I lowkey feel like I'd have wanted to go even more)! That's how great this place is. read more

Food would be three stars in the Bay Area but on MVI it's a hard 4. Service wasn't exemplary but as long as food is good who cares? Overworked waitress. Eggplant Parmesan was solid but a little salty. Mine is better but I grill the eggplant and add bell peppers. Sauce could have used more herbs. Duck was cooked perfectly. Seafood pasta is always fabulous here. Squash blossoms tasted like cheap oil and weren't very flavorful. But lobster ravioli were delish! A very relaxing fun evening outside on the back patio. This is one of the few restaurants I would recommend on the island. Others I go to for view and atmosphere but Salvatore's I go to for the food. read more

We are here on our first night on the island, expecting a lot, and Salvatore's exceeded our expectations. We had reservations and they first seated us inside near the kitchen/doorway, and they were very accommodating when we asked to move seats. We started off with an Islanders Talk and a Cabernet-- both were big hits and warranted a second drink. Our app was the bruschetta done four ways-- one with fried broccolini and ricotta, an olive spread, truffle mushroom spread, and a classic caprese style. Our favorite was the broccolini, but all were very tasty. Our entrees were the pappardelle duck and pappardelle with filet mignon. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium and I savored every bite. The pappardelle was also to die for -- we both thought that the pasta and sauce was delicious and so light. My husband enjoyed his duck as well-- absolutely no complaints here! We somehow had room left for dessert-- tiramisu for the husband and cannoli for me. The tiramisu slice was huge, and mine came with four cannoli which were so light, and a perfect crispy shell. The husband really enjoyed his as well. This was one of the best restaurants we went to on the island--- definitely recommend!! read more

First time in Salvatore's and YOU have to go. It's the cutest little spot with amazing food. I did research and read some bad reviews however, I wanted to give Salvatore's a try and I'm glad I did. I had the Tortellini Con Pesto E Pollo and is was delicious. I also felt compelled to try the cannoli just because someone had written a review about them being chocolate and stale. Not sure why she was so upset when the cannoli came out with chocolate filling when it is clearly written on the menu as such. Hahaha Don't go off everyone's review.. go and try it yourself! My family and I went here for a nice dinner before a sunset, and we had nothing but praise for the food. Hats off to the chef, but not only to the chef but to the staff as well. The food here is always very reliable and tasty! One of my favorite dishes that I highly recommend is the Pollo alla Felini - chicken served with risotto, spicy tomato sauce, and olives. It is super tasty and I always look forward to ordering it! I usually order take out, as they tend to be very crowded (especially during the summer). For me, island time meant eat whenever it was convenient and so on this day, shortly after a feast at Menemsha, I embarked on another one at Salvatore's. We opted to sit out on the side facing the street and didn't know there was an interior courtyard option. It's ok because there was a good amount of shade on our side. Unlike most other places, we were presented with complimentary bread to start our meal. I requested butter and olive oil. My dining companion and I shared an order or arancini, which was served with shaved cheese on top and overall on a bed of arugula. It was this dish that prompted the realization that we had not been consuming many fresh greens on our trip. Nevertheless, the arancini was served piping hot with "sauce." I thought the sauce was too watered down and didn't coat or stay on the arancini. We split an order of seafood tagliatelle and pappardelle duck. Both were fantastic and some of the best, if not the best, dishes we enjoyed on our three week vacation. Shrimp war large; the noodles tasted freshly made and came dressed in a light lemony creamy sauce with fresh greens. The duck was also well portioned and placed next to pasta in a mushroom and truffle oil sauce. Really great. The server was kind and asked if we wanted cheese or fresh black pepper. Although truly stuffed, we rallied and ordered one dessert. The panna cotta was a perfect end to a wonderfully delicious meal. It was refreshing and light and was topped with fresh raspberries. Just dined here to end our trip to Martha's Vineyard. Our waitress was fine, but addressed us and the table next to us together as if we were one large group. Then brought out bread for bread service- this bread seemed undercooked, it was very soft and pale. No matter, we were hungry and decided to have a piece. We were going to eat it with the olive oil and vinegar that was already at the table when we noticed not one, not two, but three dead bugs in the vinegar carafe. We told our waitress and she brought out a new set. It seemed she didn't care enough to check this new set, because this set had a dead bug in the vinegar as well. We informed her and simply stated we did not need a new carafe, not trusting it anymore. At this point, my boyfriend wanted to leave, and just pay for our drinks since we hadn't been served food yet. I wish we would have. The spaghetti pomodoro was below average. It tasted like canned tomato sauce. The veal chop special was actually tasty in flavor, but the veal was over cooked. We ate the veal plate and didn't really touch the pomodoro. We didn't complain about it, but when they threw away our empty plate, no one was prompted to ask why we were not taking it home. I was a waitress for 10 years, and find this whole experience to be below standard, or at least, the standard I used to provide when I did this job. We ordered a dessert to go to just have a palate cleanser for later. It was broken/split in the box and didn't come with the mint in the description (panna cotta with raspberry sauce and mint) Nothing was done to remedy the experience with the bugs coming in food twice, and although we didn't complain, it was evident we didn't enjoy the meal of overcooked $75 veal and basic spaghetti. A manager never stopped by to apologize about the bugs, and we left paying our check in full. We had a much nicer experience at a beer garden on the island and paid a fraction of the cost for better Italian (pizza) I wouldn't recommend this restaurant based off of our experience. I went to Salvatore's for the first time this past Wednesday! I was super excited to go because many of my friends and family members had gone and loved it. The service was excellent and the food was yummy, although I'll say, I was expecting more from the food given the high price point. I do know that everything is more expensive on the Island, however, for the price of the meal, I wasn't blown away. That being said, the food came out fast, and I happily ate my meal. We started with the burrata with prosciutto, which was yummy but small, and I had the linguine scampi. The portion was a good size, and the shrimp was cooked very well. The sauce was delicious, but the dish was nothing to write home about. I also tried a bite of my boyfriend's gnocchi with tomato sauce, burrata, and chicken, which was also yummy. The texture of the gnocchi was great, and the sauce was rich in flavor. I would go back, but there are certainly better meals I've had on the island. read more

COVID and staffing issues aside, we were extremely disappointed and frustrated with our experience at Salvatore. Despite having a reservation, we ended up waiting approximately 20 minutes for our table. Knowing we were next for a table, we saw as the staff cleared a table and were eager to be seated. At the same time an elderly couple arrived and approached the door and the owner (as it turns out) came to meet them and promptly started to give our table away. I approached and explained (to the owner) that we were waiting for a table and believed us to be next on this list. The owner then explained how long their wait would be, they turned, got in their car, and left. Whew! We were happy to be seated outside as the noise level inside the restaurant was much louder than we anticipated or would be comfortable with. However, being seated outside, we felt like we were a forgotten table. We waiting patiently for our server who took forever to approach our table. I asked, as I always do, 'How's your day going?' She shrugged, huffed, and went on to say how tired she was and how miserable her day was. Hmmm... Our martinis were warm and watered down. The runner who brought my medium-rare steak did not stick around long enough for me to cut into my steak to see it was well-done. My dinner companion's pasta was Our server did not back to our table until we were finished eating. We asked to speak with the manager who turned out to be the owner - the same person who tried to give away our table. He appeared to be grateful to hear our feedback and asked us to please come back and give them another try. Having spent $200 for this dinner experience, we can't really afford to 'give it another try'. read more
