Don't walk, RUN to Avellino in Falmouth. This is such a hidden gem and an asset to the East Falmouth community. I went with a couple of girlfriend and we had cocktails to start, the manhattan was phenomenal. We had the best stuffed mushrooms of our collective lives. I had the steak au poivre which I can confidently say was the best cow I've tasted in my 40 years of roaming the earth. My parents and I went here last night and enjoyed our experience. Our server was attentive and nice. The bread and dipping sauce was delicious. I literally could've eaten the whole bread basket just to eat more of the sauce. My dad got seafood carbonara, my mom got the bolognese, and I got clam linguini. We all enjoyed our meals. I really liked the sauce in my pasta, and while the fresh clams were really good, the chopped ones were a bit chewy (possibly canned?). For dessert, my mom and I got the bread pudding. We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening. Our server took care of our party. We were celebrating a 75th birthday. The portion of our meals were so good we all took doggy bags home. The only criticism I have is we had the cookie with ice cream for dessert and the cookie was not warm and it was very hard. We had a reservation for four at 7:30 PM, but when we walked in on time, we were told we'd have to wait 10 minutes because only high-top tables were available. When you make a reservation at a place like this, you expect to be seated at a low-top table, so we were confused as to why we had to wait at all. Still, we waited, but the 10 minutes turned into an unacceptable 25 minutes. When I went to the host stand to ask how much longer it was going to be and mentioned that waiting this long for a reservation was insane, the young, inexperienced hostess didn't even acknowledge me at first because she was too busy on her phone. When she finally did, her response was shockingly rude--she waved the paper reservation list in my face and said, "You can take a look at our list if you'd like," and then told me I could leave if I wasn't satisfied. Keep in mind, we hadn't even been seated yet. The manager, who watched the whole thing unfold, did absolutely nothing when we asked to speak to her. I understand if there isn't a table ready, and I don't expect anyone to kick out other diners, but the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy from both the hostess and the manager was appalling. The restaurant itself didn't make up for the poor service. The place looks like it's in a basement, and the food was below average at best. It's honestly hard to understand why the staff acted like they were doing us a favor by letting us eat there. The entire experience wasn't worth the hassle and is one I wouldn't repeat. This is the kind of place you go to out of desperation, not by choice. read more

Unbelievable! My friend and I split the bruschetta. I had the eggplant Parm, and he had the Bolognese. The bruschetta and eggplant Parm were absolutely amazing! I cannot speak for the Bolognese because I did not try it, however, my friend seemed very happy with his meal. We also each had martinis and they were perfect. I recently had a small catering order completed at Avellino and everything was delicious. To start with, the customer service is outstanding. The ordering itself was seamless and the owner/chef Mike called the following day to follow-up on the order and provide heating instructions. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the staff carried my items to the car and Mike again made sure I had last minute instructions as one of the items (chicken/broccoli/ziti) was being served immediately and the other (eggplant parm) was for the following day. Both meals were delicious and the leftovers reheated nicely. The eggplant parm was the star of the weekend and will be on the menu the next time family comes to visit for sure. We were a party of six last Sunday for dinner at Restorante Avellino. Our hostess was very accommodating with a table in the back. Our waitress, Barbara, was very attentive. We ordered our drinks and a bruschetta appetizer. The waitress also took our entree orders, but we specified that we wanted to be finished with our appetizer BEFORE she put in our dinner order. The Bread & Garlic Olive Oil dip was delicious! As we were eating the last of our appetizer, out came the dinner!!! Needless to say, we were surprised and felt rushed! Some of the entrees were not hot, and we told her that we were not happy. Next time, IF there is one, we will not order our dinners until we are finished with our appetizers. Avellinos, or Ristorante Avellino, is a relatively new restaurant in East Falmouth.  My wife and I eat here on our own and have also had a couples dinner there in May.  On every occasion we have found Avellinos to be welcoming, have great food, a broad menu and excellent service.  We are no stranger to Italina food and they continue to best our favorites by their sauces, meatballs, pasta and more.  Desserts are another story where you almost can't refuse they are so good and the portions are shareable.  You just have to have the Strawberry Tiramisu, something that was not available last night and sorely missed.  It is just outstanding.   Last night on July 11 I planned a family dinner with 11 people at 6:00 PM.  We had a broad range of entrees, mine being Chicken Marsala for the first time at Avelinnos.  I have a high bar on Marsala and will be back for more.   Other than the great service, a standout point was the preparation and delivery of our meals.  Not every restaurant can make 11 largely different meals with all of them coming out piping hot around the same time.  Everything was just perfect and steam was coming off each meal.  It could not have been better.   Try them out.  You will be glad you did. read more

Last week we dined at Ristorante Avellino (339 East Falmouth Highway--Route 28 in Davisville). Avellino took over the restaurant which had been Josh's until this past July. While Avellino's is new, the owner/chef previously owned Il Maestro Ristorante in Hyannis and has been in the business for nearly three decades. Made reservations the "old-fashioned" way--by telephone--on Thursday. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly hostess, who then promptly seated us at our table for two at 6:30. The bar was full and most of the tables in the restaurant were filled with patrons as well. Ryan, our server, arrived with the ubiquitous question about water (we almost always prefer the locally sourced water--lol), returned with two waters, answered some questions we had about menu items, and then took drink orders--a glass for Pinot Grigio for my wife, and a Negroni for me. Ryan returned with the beverages and then in a few moments with a warm, mini loaf of beautifully crusty bread for dipping in the EVOO infused with a touch a garlic, oregano, and cheese. The bread and dipping oil were delicious. We ordered the Buffalo Mozzarrella salad to share. It was big, in fact most of the apps and salads we saw being delivered to other tables were also big, so sharing was the right decision here. In addition to the mozzarella the salad came with with prosciutto, tomatoes, red onions and Kalamata olives, finished with balsamic glaze. The salad was very tasty and we appreciated that the tomatoes were actually ripe and full of flavor--of course, this is the right time of year for ripe tomatoes. Our meals arrived shortly after we finished most of the salad. I ordered the Veal Francaise (veal is typically my "test" dish for a new Italian restaurant). Even though not noted on the menu, the dish (and I assume the other veal dishes as well) comes over your choice of pasta. When Ryan took our meal order I passed on the pasta--too many extra carbs for me right now. I was pleasantly surprised that he came back in a few minutes and asked if I would like a vegetable. I selected grilled asparagus. When the dish arrived, I was pleased that the veal was crisp on the outside but fork tender on the inside, the sauce on which it was placed was delicious (I could see how it would work well with a pasta), and the asparagus were perfectly grilled, cooked but still crisp. I also appreciate that the amount of veal served was just right. My wife ordered the Chicken and Sausage Carbonara served over a bed of linguine with pancetta, peas and parmesan cheese. It was an innovative take on a more traditional carbonara sauce which is made with pancetta or bacon, whisked eggs, and cheese. The sauce was lighter and infused with a small amount of sweet Marsala (I am guessing). Very tasty and different. My wife did her best, but did end up taking the remainder home for today's lunch (lol). At the time our meals arrived, I had ordered a second Negroni which alas did not arrive until I had almost finished my meal for which Ryan apologized (the ticket must have been lost he explained). No matter, it gave me something to sip on while I enjoyed watched my wife slowly savor her meal. Even though we saw a few tempting desserts coming out of the kitchen to diners with heartier appetites than ours, we were too satiated to pursue a third course of food. The restaurant was busy the entire time we were there, including table turnover which is always a good thing to see. Avellino seems to have kept at least some of the staff who had previously worked at Josh's (we recognized a few) and they seem to have enough staff to provide the kind of service people tend to expect. The attentive we received from Ryan was outstanding. We found the menu prices, across the board, to be quite reasonable as were the drink prices. We had a very pleasant and delicious evening, definitely worth a visit if you haven't tried it already. read more

We are foodies especially my husband. I literally call him the "Phantom Gourmet" lol, if that gives you any idea of how picky we are! Mike and Rene have really figured out how to blend a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with a magical ambiance swirling that together with the most amazing italian cuisine! We love going for both the food and atmosphere! We highly recommend the eggplant parmigiana, Caesar salad and any of the deserts especially the chocolate cake which are all baked in house!
