Walked in with my girlfriend to get duplicate keys made and wasn't greeted. Service was slow, and the overall atmosphere felt off from the start. Music with explicit references to cocaine was playing loudly -- not ideal, especially with a child present in the shop at the time. At one point, an employee made a loud comment in our direction -- "sharing is caring" -- which didn't relate to anything happening. When I asked what he meant, he smirked and said "oh, nothing," offering no explanation. Between the lack of basic customer service and the uncomfortable behavior, the experience came across as unprofessional and, frankly, a bit unsettling. I won't be returning. The signs were there ..... things were happening; but I chose to ignore the signs. It all started a couple of years ago when my key wouldn't turn in the lock of my vintage SUV cargo door. I started using the auto lock to open that door.... This was definitely kind of wacKEY! About a year ago my key again started acting funKEY! It could open my driver side door lock but wouldn't turn in the lock of the passenger side door..... This was definitely getting kind of kooKEY! And then two weeks ago I dropped off my friend at the entrance to Kuakini Physician's Tower for a doctor's appointment and for some strange reason I couldn't get the key out of the starter switch ..... This was definitely was getting more and more spooKEY! I searched for and found my spare key and it opened all the doors and went in and out of the ignition switch just fine .... Duh! I knew I needed a new key which definitely made me feel like a donKEY. I haven't made a duplicate key for years and discovered the place I used to go to, Modern Key Shop on Bethel was no longer in business.... This definitely made me feel kind of unlucKEY. I remembered that City Mill made keys so I went to their store on Nimitz. They have converted to an automated key making machine so I push the call button, a clerk comes over and that person inserted my key in this slot and then that slot and got a message saying they didn't have my key .... This definitely made me feel like their key making machine was hoKEY and they were key making rooKEYs I drive over to Lowe's and they too make keys and also use an automated key making machine. I push the call button, a clerk comes over and inserts my in one slot and then another slot about four different times and got the same message saying they cannot find my key..... in my mind, I'm thinking this is getting kind of freaKEY and making a duplicate key these days is definitely not a quicKEY. I remember seeing a key making machine at the entrance to Walmart so I decide to go there. Their machine identified my key but the machine wanted me you pay, and they will make and then mail my duplicate key to the address I enter. I'm thinking this is kind of funKEY. Making duplicate keys at Modern Key Shop used to be quick and easy .... by the time I get this duplicate key, I felt I would be eating a Thanksgiving turKEY!! They got plenty of parking in front of their shop and when I walk in.... WOW!! What a difference! This place looks like a professional key and locKEY place with real technicians that know locks and keys. There are hundreds of blank keys on the wall and doohicKEY machines that you can watch technicians operate to make your duplicate keys. I definitely felt lucKEY I found this locKEY place. I hand over my key to the technician; he grabs two blank keys from the wall; I watch him do his finiKEY and tricKEY work on the key making machine; I pay for the two keys he made and I'm out the door in less than eight minutes which I definitely thought was really a quicKEY. All I can say is that automatic key making machines are definitely gimmicKEY, sucKEY and risKEY and may make you wait until after you eat a Thanksgiving turKEY. I've been to so many different key shops to get one key made... its a Masterlock key. No one makes it! Luckily, my landlord told me to try Salz Lock and Safe to see if they can make it. Luckily, I went... and they DO make copies of the Masterlock key!!! I went to the store, and its a small store in the building. They have a few parking stalls reserved for their shop. I went in, and was greeted immediately. I asked if they can make a copy of my Masterlock key, and to my surprise, they do! The guy took my key, and I swear, not even 5 or 10 seconds later, he made my spare key! I was shocked to see how fast he did it! I paid... wasn't as much as I thought it would be, so this place is super cheap (compared with other places i normally get my keys done). They also sell lanyards, key chains, and key rings... everything you need for your keys! Since I needed other keys made, I went back to their location again, and again, good service, and to my surprise again, the key was made in less than 30 seconds! LOL. Great place to get simple spare keys made. I"ve gone here twice in the last year and both times went great. They are friendly and were able to help in my situation. My only need was valet key's so I could take them in the water. My car keys are connected to the electric FOB, so I would ruin them in the ocean. They were able to copy my car keys, so I could have a key that would unlock and lock my doors, but not be affected in the ocean. I will be back again as I've had all positive experiences. read more

Great customer service, knowledgeable, professional. Almost as soon as I walked in, they addressed my presence and told me they would be right with me. Busy place, but didn't have to wait long. I wanted to have a copy of my car key for my 2006 Honda Civic. The key itself was a little wobbly so I wanted them to tighten it up. They said the mount on the inside was starting to fall apart so I needed to replace the key. Once they were done, I had no doubt the keys would work. They even gave me my original key back mounted on another plastic body and said it was a last resort in case the new one and it's backup didn't work. We have a rare Winkhaus lock on our front door that stopped locking and unlocking with the key. Mark Yealey of Salz Lock and Safe was determined to get it working again. In June, after a lot of research, he ordered a new gearbox that first arrived in the wrong size. After another trip to our house with the correct gearbox, we discovered that the lock cylinder was also bad. We returned home from our vacation to find that we had some trouble getting into our condominium unit. Our lockset seemed to have been "tampered with" but chalked it up to the several occasions when someone had gotten off on the wrong floor thinking they're at their unit and then trying to open the door.
