Never realized there were slight hills in Texas... This is a great escape from Dallas. Scenic, well-maintained, green, and a nice place to train, bike, run or walk your boyfriend. I'm going to make coming here a regular occurrence.

It's repaired and fully open! Come celebrate with me tomorrow.

Update 3/6/2017 : Sam Houston Trail Park is once again fully open. Irving Parks Department has been busy renovating this park since it was previously severely damaged by past flooding. It's been re-engineered and looks great! You can now access the entire park again. This is another great park along Campion Trail. It's at the north end, nearest to Valley Ranch. There is plenty of parking. It's made of two loops connected by a section of the trail that runs along the river. The south end of the park is bordered by the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, and on the other side of the river is TW Richardson Grove. It has a large wide-open space and is the site of Wednesdy Night Cross, WNX for the cyclocross racers. The large open area is great for flying kites, drones, or RC planes or cars. There is a large portapotty, a water fountain, a couple of grills, a couple of tables, and a couple of benches. I've seen armadillos and copperheads as well as several different species of birds

Look, Dallas is not known for its forests, but this is a really nice and well maintained paved trail. It's the closest thing I've found in the Irving area to a paved and shaded jogging trail with some visual interest (water, trees, etc.). The trees have no leaves for a good part o the year because...you know, Texas. I've jogged this alone and with my 6 yo on his bike, and I enjoy it. It's wide, smooth, relatively flat, and feels very safe. The mile markers are nice and there are a couple route options. There are benches every quarter mike or so. Recently I've seen rental bikes at the two major entrances. I've never seen any wildlife before, but today (in January) we saw two armadillos. Super odd bc I've never seen an armadillo in the DFW area at all in 20+ years. But there they were, right by the trail, minding their own business and rooting around in the leaves. It was interesting just because it was unusual. Great path for walking, jogging, or biking. Lots of parking and open field at the entrance.

i frequent this park. its a safe good place for biking or running. Walking has become more difficult with the number of bikers on the trail these days. Bikers are not always as accommodating to the walkers as they should be. Prior to all the flooding, the park was clean and well kept. Since they reopened in September there is an odor and I've noticed an abundance of wildlife. I know that they are working on cleaning the park up so i dont think this will continue to be a problem. Overall i really like these trails (despite the rude bikers and family of armadillos). They have large concrete paths, benches for resting, views of water, a water fountain and a toilet. Parking is never a problem.

Beautiful trail from Las Colinas to Valley Ranch, Irving. I try to visit this trail atleast once a week for 6-7 miles bike ride.. Apparently the trail is half closed and I'm waiting for them to open it.. Well this trail is connected with another trail called Campions Trail.. So both the trails are actually same (unless I'm wrong).. Pros- 1) Best part about this trail is that it is not crowded and you will find friendly people on the trail.. 2) You will pass thru huge trees, trinity river, and a sunset view along a small canal.. 3) Close to the highway and good availability of parking.. Cons: 1) Less water fountains on the trail.. I really miss water fountain if I'm out of water during the bike ride.. Worth visiting the trail for biking and running ..

Good place to take the dogs and humans for exercise.

It's a nice park for running and biking. Does anybody know if there's a parking lot around it?

For this review, I'm going to highlight all the areas where you can park and enter the trail. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Trail, Return) Atmosphere - The trail is a wonderful, well shaded path which is populated with a good mix of cyclists, runners, roller bladers, and even families. It's one of my favorite places in the city, because it takes you away from the concrete jungle and into a lush, green, natural hideaway. 2 Stars. Trail - Here are the trail entrances where you can park your car and enter into Campion Trails starting from North to South. Sam Houston Trail Park - 101 I-635, Irving, TX 75038. This entrance is at 161 and Valley View. It's a good location if you want to start north and go down. Also, it has the only outhouse (that I know of). I've never used it but just know it's there. TW Richardson Grove - 101 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, Irving, TX 75063. Right off the exit for George Bush Hwy off I635, this area has a covered patio that's perfect for gatherings for picnics and cookouts. La Vallita Park - 1 Camino Rio, Irving, TX 75039. This park is in the La Villita neighborhood. It was two playgrounds for kids, lots of shade from trees, and a covered patio. Rio Vista Park - 2 Barcelona, Irving, TX 75039. Also located in La Villita. This park has a basketball court, playground, and a covered patio with grills. There are no parking lots, but you can park along Barcelona, Campion Trails Park - 5950 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This parking lot is next to the Irving Police Station. Needless to say, it's safe to park your car here. Birds Fort Trail Park - 5756 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This is the BEST entrance to Campion Trails. Not only is there plenty of parking, but there are several covered patios, and it overlooks the Trinity River. Paws Colinas Dog Park - 1300 California Crossing Rd, Irving, TX 75039. This is a great dog park. It's really not a place to park and enter Campion Trail, just know it connects. California Crossing Park - 5198 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This is the end (or beginning) of Campion Trails. Start here if you want to start biking north towards Valley Ranch/Coppell. Let's go! 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I live in La Villita so my entry way is through the two parks. I hope that after reading this review, you'll be inspired to check out one of my favorite trails in all of DFW. 1 Star.

The park itself is in a residential area, across from a large apartment complex and has a playground and plenty of open field to run around. The trail head starts a few hundred feet from the parking lot, at the end of short loop there's a sign for Dorba trail. I didn't see as much signage when I first started so I wasn't sure where I was going. A few minutes in I ran into blue trail signage and things improved. I ended up transferring to red trail and finished on the black trail. I saw an area of the black trail marked "challenge" but I think that was just due to the tree roots above the ground surface. There are separate paths for bikers versus hikers which was nice, and I think this a great trail for beginners (little to no elevation or areas requiring scrambling) who want flat terrain that isn't too challenging. Also, nice for someone looking for something less populated. I only saw one other person while hiking for an hour. A-ok experience, and I'd visit again if in the area.

As far as hiking goes, it's "OK" and I would rate it as easy. There are a couple of *small*…read moreinclines along the trails, but like most of north Texas, 99% of the trails are flat and not rocky at all, so I would recommend this for all skill levels. There are a handful of loops you can try (all with exciting names such as Blue Trail, Red Trail, Yellow Trail). Depending on how creative you get, you can probably stretch the distance out to four miles. Some of the trails meander alongside a serene creek. It's maintained by DORBA, so it's obviously going to be biker friendly. However, these trails weren't overwhelmed with off-road Lance Armstrong wannabes the couple of times I have been out there. Although there isn't a lot of elevation change, there are plenty of twists and turns along the trails for the bikers. Speaking of which, there is a decent looking section that is just for bikers and it has some pretty sick looking dirt hills/ramps, etc. It really did look cool. Hikers should stay OUT of this area! The rest of the park: Limited parking lot, but you can park on the street if necessary (it's usually not crowded here). There's a covered pavilion near the parking lot with a handful of picnic tables, a playground and there are a few benches in the main park area. Enjoy getting outdoors folks!

After a dozen delays, I go to pick up the bike and it's completely dead. Not only did he not notice it, after he tinkered with it, he just said "it died, it's not our fault". It's insane. I called the manufacturer, they concurred that this is a common issue with bike repair shops that don't know what their doing. After I took the bike away and had an expert look at it, he sent me this photo (see attached) where Jorge and his team had severed the wires powering the motor. When I showed these to Jorge, he continued to deny it completely and refused to take any responsibility. Now we're having to settle this in small claims. I'm not happy to do this, because I prefer to support local businesses and I live in Oak Cliff, but this is an awful shop, with a dishonest owner. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

We saw other kids his age there as well at the base of the orb with their parents. He became completely fixated on traversing through the orb thing in the middle of the playground, as one would be as it's an amazing structure. He kept trying over and over and over to go up the ropes and into the first layer of the orb. He was scared, the layers of the orb are made with rope, and I had to go with him while helping him physically, which was heavy on me physically, and I am fit. There were certain parts in that first 'orb layer' that had no net and a steep drop off to the ground. My boy thought it might be fun to try jumping off of it so I had to fight against him to keep him from those parts. I went down the slide with him in my lap to get down. We tried every single time to distract and recenter his focus to get him to try the other playground areas but he was fixated on that orb and wouldn't stop. He is athletic at 55 lbs so usually he prefers the big kid areas at parks. We ended up having to carry him out with him crying, kicking, and screaming due to this playground orb feature. We went to another nearby playground, which was a blast.
