I get tired of the lunch spots near my office so I ventured slightly outside my zone on the recommendation of a friend and checked out Sam LaGrassa's. I got a chipotle pastrami sandwich (I think that's what it was) and it was DELICIOUS. It was also huge so it could have easily lasted me for two meals if I wasn't so hungry at the time. The only downside is that you have to dig a bit deep into your wallet for this place - my sandwich was about $13 or $14 so I don't think I could make a habit of coming here regularly for lunch. read more

Don't get me wrong, they make a good sandwich. Their roast beef is so rare and delicious, and they never skimp on stuffing their good breads full of meat. But they are SO GODDAMN EXPENSIVE. The last time I went, it came to $10.12 for me to get roast beef on a round roll with just American cheese and mayonnaise. Really Sammy's? 75 cents for ONE piece of cheese? I'm not a huge foodie, but their Pastrami Po'Boy transported me to someplace definitely not on earth. Hence the five stars. The description calls for pastrami, swiss, and honey mustard on roll. But what goes into your mouth is an incredible concoction reminiscent of honey baked ham. It was a juicy inch and a half of succulent meat, the roll was perfect in texture, and I don't even like mustard but it was more sweet than horseradish. Wondrous. By far the BEST sandwich I have ever had. Every time I went here I either got the chicken parm or the corned beef; both are phenomenal! The prices seem high, but the sandwiches are so big that you can share them with another person and still be full. Give their fries a try! This restaurant has won so many awards and has been on a showcased on various TV shows including Food Network, I wish I had come here sooner. Wow, everything about this establishment is great! The atmosphere is cozy with a few places to sit or there's a waiting area. The people helping out are nice & efficient but it's the food that's the winner. The selection of meats is varied like Chicken, Pork, pastrami, corned beef, and roast beef. All made on the premise and carved at the counter. I had the Roast Beef Blues which is Black Angus Roast Beef served on an Italian Sesame Roll with horseradish, caramelized onions and crumbled blue cheese dressing. Good sandwiches. Best out of our group was the Traveler Pastrami. Perfect flavor and great with the toasted bread. All the pastrami was delicious and thinly sliced, but the meat on the Diablo kind of fell apart. Portions don't look huge, but we all left stuffed. Certainly better than the typical deli and worth the little bit of searching to find it. They are only opened for lunch and sandwiches were a few dollars more than the average deli, but all in all seemed like a good value and a fun place to ready while visiting Boston. read more

Probably the best sandwich place in Boston! The quality of their bread is second to none and adding coleslaw to the sandwich is like icing on the cake. Hands down one of my favorite sandwich spots in town. Only open from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, so plan accordingly. Try the chipotle pastrami sandwich, you won't regret it. Location: it's close to downtown crossing so it's easily accessible Service: I got pick up and it came out quick. Cashier was friendly. Food: Main order: bought a pastrami and corned beef combo. It's basically a Reuben with Cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. This is supposedly the sandwich to get from here. Along with that I got an order of fries too. The pastrami and corned beef combo was a decently sized and they gave plenty of protein. Honestly it was a great sandwich, one of the best I've ever had. The pastrami and corned beef were salty and had umami flavors, while the Russian dressing and Cole slaw added tang plus slight sweetness. The bread was soft and supple. A pickle came with the order. I wasn't a fan of it. It wasn't as sour as I would've liked. Portion wise, I could've eaten 2 or 3 sandwiches and for the price paid I would've liked a heftier sandwich. Side order: ordered fries along with it. The fries weren't the greatest and they weren't the worst. They were salted enough and portion was too small. I regret getting this. This easily made our list of places to tour in Boston after seeing it on diners, drive ins, and dives. We came on a Thursday afternoon so it wasn't too crowded. Our food was prepared pretty quickly and prices were fair. I got the southwestern pastrami sandwich and dare I say it's the best pastrami I've ever had. I've tasted some quality pastrami at famous locations in NYC, but honestly this sandwich blew those away. The pastrami was melt in your mouth tender. No extra chewing necessary. Just falls apart. The sandwich also had crispy bacon, pepper jack cheese, BBQ sauce, and a delicious Chipotle mayo. It was also huge and grilled on rye. Just amazing. I wish I lived around here because I would be in this place for lunch at least three times a week. Friend of mine tried the chowder and said it was great. Seriously come here. They do not in fact have gluten free bread, and were super confused when I asked for some way to do a pastrami sandwich without the bread... I get that that would really strip it down, but really I just wanted good pastrami and wouldn't care if it were just pastrami and some coleslaw on a plate, but they steered me into a salad, which was ok, but really not what I wanted. My husband was like--wow, this is a lot of food for this early in the day, do you think we can eat all this? Gluttony at its finest! I was in Boston on a weekend getaway and I'm so happy that I stopped in Sam Lagrassas. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was one of the daily specials. Sooo delicious! In my opinion, for whatever it's worth this is the best pastrami sandwich you will find. I do hate because the place closes so early and it's a pain in the ass to park if you can even find a spot. But that's just the way it is, and it's been that way for the thirty years I've been eating here. Wow !! The BBQ Pastrami melt is soooo delicious, we went there for lunch two days in a row !! And would have gone the next day if they had not been closed.
